4-0 out of 5 stars Expedition 3 Photo Backpack
I own the Sony DSC-717 digital camera and have found this bag complimentary to the Sony. The only improvement I believe it needs is the addition of a chest strap. To correct this problem I went to a local outdoor supply store and built one myself for less than two dollars... All in all it's an outstanding backpack.

4-0 out of 5 stars Tamrac Expedition 3 Photo Backpack
This pack worked great for about a week. It handles my STsi along with a 75-300mm lens, a 28-80mm lens, a 2x tele-converter, a hot shoe flash, 8 filters, and assorted other trinkets. The one main complaint is there isn't much room for film. Also there isn't any room to grow with the pack. The pack is very small. If you are the "just bring this and thats it" type then this is YOUR pack. I on the other have bought 2 more lens (35-135 & a 1000) and another body. Not a chance of fitting this into the pack. another complaint is that since it is so small lashing a tripod to the pack is just notfeasable. All in all GREAT pack! Although I have a few complaints it is great to just keep your camera with you and your hands free. And I did order a much larger pack. So enough of my whinning!

2-0 out of 5 stars Too small for an SLR, and just too small
I returned this item because it was just not big enough for my SLR. I have two lenses, neither is huge. I tried to fit the camera with one lens on and another off, plus flash and a few other gizmos. Everything was too tight. There were several pockets inside the flap allegedly for accessories (they mentioned filters), but my filters, my notebook, my lens tissue -- none fit! They make some dubous claim about strapping on a tripod, but they don't mean a professional tripod, I guess.

I'll try the larger model and see if things are better.

5-0 out of 5 stars This is a great "starter" bag for me
I don't have a lot of photography gear--SLR body, 2 lenses (1 80mm and 1 300mm), a hood, a few filters--but I needed a good way to haul all of it around. This is a wonderful bag to do that. It is built very well and I believe that it will protect my equipment from injury should an accident ever arise. I still have room to add a few more lenses before I outgrow this bag. I am a petite person and was able to adjust the shoulder straps small enough to be comfortable on my back--a big plus. (Only downside is that I suspect adding my tripod to the mix may be a little awkward, but nonetheless I believe I will be able to lash it somehow to the outside of the bag with minimal trouble since I don't take my tripod along very often.) All-in-all, if you need a convenient and safe way to haul "the basics" in camera equipment around, this is a great, sturdy bag for it.

3-0 out of 5 stars Ok - but consider getting something bigger.
This bag will likely hold 1 camera body, and two lenses - with a couple of other misc. If that second lense is a large zoom lense, consider purchasing something else.

Also - think about different colors. I purchased this before I noticed that [someone else] was offering the identical model in black for cheaper.

The backpack is comfortable to wear enough, but that front mesh pouch that is depicted holds next to nothing. The internal velcro compartments are awkward to use if the backpack is packed too tightly. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect fit for Canon S1
Fits the Canon S1 IS perfectly. It has room for an extra compact flash card and an extra set of batteries. Much better than the Canon case for the S1.

5-0 out of 5 stars A very nice camera bag
My somewhat older Toshiba PDR-M60 camera fits in this case very nicely. Has space for four additional batteries and a SmartMedia card in the side pocket too. I'm very happy with the materials and finish of the bag, and it looks good - albeit a bit bulky, since it has plenty of padding. But this was a great purchase for me. If you're looking for a case that has about 5 x 3 x 2 1/4 " internal dimension, this will do fine.
Also, the color of it is much darker than the picture suggests - looks better in life for sure. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars This backpack is great for certain types of use
I have owned this camera backpack for over a year, and used it on trips and a few day hikes. (Mine is green, which I prefer over the black.) I like it when used certain ways, but am thinking I need a more complete backpack or go back to my briefcase-style carrier for those trips where I want to be more fully equipped and be changing lenses and filters frequently.
Features I like are:
- its pockets and mesh compartments are handy and hold a lot (many are accessible from the outside for quick access)
- it has enough straps (chest, sternum, and nicely padded shoulder) to ride very comfortably
- it has plenty of padded section pieces inside
- it includes straps to fasten a small tripod underneath
- the top half has proved very handy for sandwiches, a water bottle or two, and a few extras like t-shirt
- it is great for hauling my camera gear somewhere if I can then set the backpack down and work out of it
- it doesn't look like a camera bag (less chance of theft)
Things I don't like are:
- The camera and lenses themselves are not very accessible. The only way to get to them is to unzip the top half (hiking gear section)and fold it clear over. This means taking it off my back, setting it on the ground, etc.
- It really doesn't hold enough for my purposes. I have a Canon Elan SLR camera, 420EX flash, and a couple extra lenses. If I put the camera and flash inside, I can get one long or two short lenses in too, with the short ones stacked. If I have my flash on its foldable bracket, I can't get it in without something hanging out. If I don't take the flash, then I can get the camera and two lenses inside, maybe three. Thus, as I said above, this backpack seems best for me to haul my gear from point A to point B, then work out of it, than to use along the trail (or zoo, or wherever), unless I keep my camera around my neck, which is sometimes hard when in less-than-smooth pathways. Even then, to swap lenses, it's a bit of an ordeal.
- Again, accessories like filters, collapsible lens hoods, etc., are readily accessible in the outside pockets, which are roomy.

4-0 out of 5 stars Holds equipment but somewhat uncomfortable
I recently purchased this very sleek backpack and it holds all of my equipment perfectly. It has so many compartments for storage that I couldn't find enough stuff to put in it. My only problem is that it can sometimes be uncomfortable to wear because it is smaller than a normal backpack. The hip strap is more like a chest strap. If you are an adult than you might not like how it looks or how it feels. I love this pack but it could be more comfortable. I suggest going to you camera store and try it out before you buy it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great backpack
I went to France last summer and was searching for something that would fit my needs: hold 3 cameras, maps, 20+ rolls of film, etc.

Without a doubt this backpack made the trip a joy. I was able to carry a Nikon CP990, an SLR with an extra lens, a Lomo LC-A, all my filters, film, maps, a bottle of water, keys, passports, etc. It all fit it. And while the backpack may have felt heavy to lift, on my back it didn't cause any difficulty wearing it for extended periods of time.

I love it, it feels great on my back and can carry more things than I need to.
I now use it at home to carry all my stuff around. The rebuildable compartments are perfect. The greatest thing is that it just looks like a regular backpack.

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfectly ideal....
I just received this bag as a gift. It's perfect. I own a Canon AE1, a standard 50mm, a 25-80mm, and a 75-300mm (lenses). This bag fits it all EASILY, including rolls of film, cleaning materials, my wallet, cellphone, keys, and other such items. Also, I feel like it definitely keeps my equipment safe from the elements and packed neatly in a padded enclosure. Plus, it's very convenient to have a backpack (I used an over-the-shoulder strap bag before, which always got in the way) The backpack stays out of my way so I can concentrate on the picture I'm taking. This is a great deal too. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Nice Case
I purchased this case for a Canon Powershot A80. The camera fits perfectly. The case seems to be well constructed and sturdy. The only thing you have to watch out for with this product is the S/H charges (mine was $10). I couldn't be happier with this case, though.

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect for Canon PowerShot A80
I bought this for our newly purchased Canon Powershot A80. It fits the camera as if it were made for it. I wanted something minimal in size for day trips that could carry an extra CF card and 4 extra AA batteries and this does the trick. Very well padded. I like the fact that it uses two closures (buckle and velcro) to keep the camera secure. You can use the shoulder strap or carry it on your belt.

For longer trips I am looking around for something bigger that will have room for my battery charger, manual, and the USB and A/V cables that came with the camera.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great camera case for the price
After looking online at quite a few different cases for our digital camera, my wife and I decided on the Tamrac 5692. We are very happy with the product. We have a Fuji FinePix 2650, and this case is a perfect fit, and allows for snug storage of extra memory cards and 4 batteries. Another nice feature is that the case not only clasps shut, but also has velcro fasteners as well. All in all, this case seems to be a great value.

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect Fit
I have a Canon PowerShot S10 and this bag fits it perfectly. I did have to modify the battery holders to accept the S10's larger batteries though. All I did was cut the stitching between the first & second and third & forth loop to turn them into two big loops instead of four small ones. They fit great now and it looks like it came that way. There is enough room in the pouch for a couple memory cards and four extra S10 (NB-5H) batteries, if you have that many, before you would have to start cramming stuff in. The belt loop on the back is three+ inches, so it should fit on most anything. This bag looks sharp too, and the label on the front should help keep people from thinking that it's a purse if you use the shoulder strap. ... Read more

The backpack is comfortable to wear enough, but that front mesh pouch that is depicted holds next to nothing. The internal velcro compartments are awkward to use if the backpack is packed too tightly. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Too Small
The description says it will hold a body with zoom attached, two extra lenses, and a flash. While that's all true, the bag was to be so tightly packed that to change lenses requires removing everything to find the lens you need -- not very convenient for nature hikes. Additionally, the case won't hold the camera with a flash bracket attached (I tend to leave mine on, since it make my camera easier to hold.)

This could be a nice unit if you only have one extra lens, though. The padding is also very thick, so if you abuse your equipment, this might be for you.

2-0 out of 5 stars Constricting
I purchased the Velocity 7 from Amazon after much searching for a suitable case for my new Canon 300D. I was attracted by the size (big enough to fit a 70-300mm lens attached) and interested by the sling style backpack.
When I got it the size and style were very nice but the sling cuts too high across the chest and felt way too restrictive, so I sent it back. I couldn't imagine spending any length of time walking around with it on.
For a coupla bucks more I purchased the Lowepro Off Road style belt/shoulder pack on Ebay and am very pleased with it. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Highly configurable and well designed
The Tamrac System 3 (and other "System") bags are very well crafted camera bags. The bag has several very attractive features.

--Handles and straps are strong and very comfortable.
--Access to bag is easy, zippers very smooth, clips easy to manage.
--Main body of bag can be reconfigured with velcro separators.
--Surprisingly high capacity (I carry an SLR body with standard lens, a 75-300 zoom, spare short focal length lens, hot shoe full flash and digital 6x zoom camera all in central pocket)
--several additional useful separators, film holders, documentation, places for lens cleaner, paper or cloths)
--durable outer shell that can take some abuse

All of this is contained in what appears from the outside to be a very small bag that easily stores for travel. Perhaps most importantly the separators, outer shell, and body construction real do appear to protect your equipment (yes I am ashamed to admit that I have had my fully loaded bag drop off of tables and down steps). Don't buy more bag than you need. If you've got a reasonable amount of gear this bag probably can handle it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic SLR backpack
I purchased this backpack to carry my Nikon D100 and five lenses of different size.

Immediately it is convenient because the velcro-attached compartments can be resized easily to fit almost any SLR. The only thing that would be a problem are those battery packs that often attach to the bottom of professional-level SLRs. It would probably be a tight fit if I had one of those, but that said, my camera and all the lenses fit perfectly and I still have room for a couple more lenses.

The bag also has a number of zippered compartments both on the inside and outside, for things like film, batteries, or extra memory cards if you have a digital camera.

The adjustable straps are very comfortable and the bag also has cross straps that go aross your chest and waist. I don't use the waist one, but find that weight is distributed a bit more evenly if I use the chest strap.

The great thing about having a back-pack is that it frees up my hands immensely compared to the old shoulder-bag I used to use for my SLR.

While the bag is not water-proof. It is of a very heavy design and even has flaps over the zippers that can keep out a light rain if you get caught in one.

I highly recommend this for the advanced photographer with an SLR and around four to six lenses depending on their sizes.

Tamrac also sells a larger version, which I would imagine would be useful to someone with more equipment, so do check that one out if you have a lot of stuff. Then again, I must say that it would probably be rather heavy to handle if you had a backpack larger than this one fully loaded. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect for Medium Size Digital Cameras
As a user of an Olympus Camedia C700 which, as a digital camera -- due to its 10X zoom -- has a lightly longer lens, I was happy to find this medium-sized Tamrac 5696 Digital Photo Bag since it holds my camera perfectly.

The main section carries the camera. The front accessory pocket is great for batteries and my extra Flash Media (or other memory) cards. There's even a zippered compartment in the bag's top flat which I use to store my camera's USB sync cable.

The camera bag comes with a convenient shoulder strap. But it also has belt loops (for wearing on your best if you so choose) that work with Tamrac's MAS (Modular Accessory System) line -- which enables various mix-and-match camera, lens and accessory cases to be attached to a MAS system wide-web belt, or to each other.

I use the Tamrac MAS system to tote a combination of 35 mm SLR's, lenses and auto-focus cameras. With the new Tamrac 5696 Digital Photo Bag, I can now carry my digital camera as well.

Tamrac makes great equipment. You can't go wrong.

5-0 out of 5 stars Too big for Olympus C3020 Z
It's an excellent camera bag and I was dissappointed that it's too big. It's a good size for a larger camera. The Camedia C3020 Z kind of gets lost inside this bag. Otherwise the construction is great and it has pockets galore for accessories like batteries, USB cable, charger, SmartMedia cards, AC adapter, cell phone, wallet, kitchen sink, etc.

I'm returning mine. Unfortunatley Amazon.com does not carry the bag that's the perfect fit for this camera. It's a Tamrac 5693.

5-0 out of 5 stars IT'S IN THE BAG.......
my Canon S50 that is. Plenty of room for all my accessories. Includes extra battery and CF cards as well as battery charger and A/V cable. And I still have room. Great case, previously the home to my Kodak DC 4800, which was a larger camera and still was not cramped for space. Very well made and not too bulky, can be worn on a belt or shoulder strap. It's a good buy. Goodbye!

5-0 out of 5 stars Tamrac Bags are Great!
Tamrac makes the best camera bags. Before buying a particular bag, check out www.tamrac.com and make sure it fits your camera.

4-0 out of 5 stars Fuji S5000 Fits in this Bag
I had to remove the inside padded divider to get the camera in the bag, and it fits snugly. I do not load it the way others say you have to... my S5000 can be loaded sideways, so the rugged grip on the camera is always available from the top.

The only reasons this bag doesn't get 5 stars from me: The battery compartments are a little snug - my 5696 Tamrac bag does NOT have the elastic battery loops, they've replaced those with two battery compartments with velcro closures. Each of those holds 4 AA batteries, which is great for digital photographers! If I were redesigning this bag, I would add two extra pouches on either side of this bag below the shoulder strap loops for things like cigarettes, pocket knives/tools, etc. I'd also like a place to put my checkbook and credit cards, and my sunglasses case. If this bag had all that, I would throw away my purse and use this bag everyday for everything. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars a great way to carry your gear
I just got this backpack and I absolutely love it. It is a great combination of a backpack and camera bag - with just enough space in each. The top compartment holds quite a bit, I used this section as my "purse." The camera area is well padded - my camera and zoom lens fit perfectly. Three pockets surround the bottom half - great for film and smaller supplies. It fits nicely on my back and comes with a waist strap (that tucks in a pocket so it doesn't get in your way) and another strap across the chest to keep the pack secure against your back.

5-0 out of 5 stars Just perfect...
After searching the internet, telephoning camera stores, and shopping at discount stores, I was very happy to receive an email that Amazon had a camera department. In just five minutes I had found the perfect camera backpack that I needed for a Christmas gift and in the price range I hoped to pay. Now I have decided that I am keeping the backpack because it is "just perfect" for my camera and equipment. It is exactly as described with room for everything. It is perfect for the amateur or professional when you need compartments for camera equipment and personal items. The same backpack is in catalogs and camera stores at a much higher cost. No one would be disappointed with this Tamrac backpack camera bag. ... Read more
