3-0 out of 5 stars not for golf
I decided I wanted a range finder when I played golf with my father-in-law. He had the Bushnell Yardage Pro 1000 and it worked great. Just point, shoot, and the yardage to the hole was returned promptly every time.

I was really excited when I first got this range finder ...until I got it on the golf course. It is much smaller than the YP1000, but the Sport model's superiority ends there. When you are inside 150 yards, it can range on a flag fine. Any farther than this and it becomes more trouble to use than it's worth. You have to hold it very steady and it takes several seconds for the range to register (if it is going to register at all).

This range finder may work fine for hunting, but if you are going to use it for golf then spend the extra money and get a better model. I am currently looking at the Bushnell Yardage Pro Tour XL 20-2025, but I haven't tried it out yet.

3-0 out of 5 stars Rules of golf
I have been playing golf for 50 yrs. on public (and some private, such as Pebble Beach) courses. Your buyer talked about the "Rules of Golf." First, they have so many rules--most of them stupid-- that the AVERAGE golfer can't possibly follow them. On a crowded public course do you really think you (or ANYONE) can take a ball back and hit another drive. There will already be at least one group "behind" you that you will be hitting into, and one on the tee wondering if you are insane to come back and slow down their game. The "Rules" are stupid enough (ask Craig Statler)for the pro players, but ARE SIMPLY IMPOSSIBLE FOR AN AVERAGE PLAYER ON A PUBLIC COURSE. By all means use a range finder if it will help your game. This is especially true if you travel and get a tee time on a course you have never seen before. HOW FAR IS IT TO THE DOG LEG? Don't know. For shame. Get out your range finder and find out what you need to hit. I have played many times where the slightest slow down will get a ball hit into you. I've cured that often if early in the round by taking a 7 iron and hitting the ball horizontally into the woods or water. It is an excellent training device in this era of greedy, uncaring pigs.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Value
This is the best value of all the range finders. Some criticize the lack of the scanning mode for golf, but actually using it while golfing is a violation of the rules of golf. It works very well for mapping out courses.

4-0 out of 5 stars Neat Gadget But Not for Golf
Originally picked this up to use on the golf course, but afterwards found out that even Bushnell says this is not the unit for golfers. It's small, lightweight and accurate, but does not have a scan feature, meaning the distance measurement does not change as you move the sight from one object to the next. You must "shoot" the object, pick a another and shoot it. I have kept it as it will be great for dear season, but aim higher in the Bushnell line for use on the golf course. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars ... and the 8x magnification is good too
while my game isn't quite good enough (yet) to need to know if the pin is 87 yards out vs. 85 1/2 yards (which this is apparently accurate enough to tell you), i do benefit from knowing that the green is in the general vicinity of 85 - which is fortunate, because if needed to know precisely I'd have to mount this thing on a tripod - the hand-held aspect of aiming at something a hundred or so yards away means that (at least in MY hands) you're going to be lucky to get the same reading twice. Which isn't to say that this is not a useful tool - like i said, i only need to know ABOUT how far i am to pick the right club --- and then i can use the 8x scope to see if i hit it up next to the hole!

1-0 out of 5 stars Got batteries
I felt the product should be more clearly marked. For example stating that the item needs a special lithium battery, so that if the item was purchased as a gift as the one I purchased was, I could have also purchased the battery. This made for a very unpleasant Christmas for myself and the person I purchased the gift for. I can not rate this product until I purchase the battery.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Rangefinder out there!
I was looking for a rangefinder for a long time to see what it could do for my golf game. I finally had the chance to try this Nikon one out in person and I was sold! Very small, very easy to use and really amazing accuracy. This is the best thing to happen to my golf game (and it needs a lot of help) in a long time! Try it you'll like it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Wow, this is impressive!
This is the best rangefinder I've owned. What impressed me most was 1/2 yard accuracy that it offered. All the other models I looked at were either 1 or 2 yard accuracy. This thing actually gives you your range in decimal places. The clarity was great also. I would recommend this rangefinder above all others. ... Read more
