4-0 out of 5 stars Great Camera!
I've had this camera for 1 year and very pleased with the pictures it takes. Two vacations, a brand new baby girl and the expensive 35mm camera is collecting dust. Side by side with the elph, 35mm Olympus and 35mm Cannon this camera's pictures compare. It's so small and light you have to take it with you. Much lighter than the elph and easy to use. Two negatives, the buttons are small and the zoom is noisy.

2-0 out of 5 stars Could've been A LOT better...
The Olympus iZoom 2000 looks great- sleek, small, light and silver. Judging by the price I thought this would be a good camera, and small enough to take anywhere. Unfortunately I found out the hard way that this camera is by no means perfect. Every picture I have taken with this camera came out grainy and low quality, much worse than my cheaper Minolta Freedom camera I had before. Also, the viewfinder is tiny when you look through it so you can hardly see what you're taking a picture of... I asked a few other people about this, so it's not just me. It's also confusing to control the flash, etc. This camera is NOT WORTH IT, go for a higher quality Olympus or a Canon Elph if you want a compact camera that takes quality pictures. Dont waste your money on this one!

2-0 out of 5 stars Great Looking, Less Filling :-(
I luv the looks & compactness. But the pixs were grainy and very dissapointing.

I shot pixs on a clear & bright day on the beach and it looked like it was unfocused.

OVerall build quality is good. Easy instruction and ease of APS. But I expected more picture quality. It makes me long for 35mm.

The 2 stars are for looks only!

1-0 out of 5 stars Dissapointing all around!!
I have bought this camera for Christmas as a present and to my surprise it did not work when we opened the Christmas presents. I returned it and bought another one just like it. This second one was a dissapointment as well; the zoom lens would never work and it would constantly shut off by itself. I would not recommend anybody to buy this camera. IT'S AWFUL!!

4-0 out of 5 stars A handy quality camera for grab shots
I purchased the Olympus iZoom 2000 to carry with me to catch those fleeting moments when you wish you had a camera. Overall quality is very good. Picture quality is fine, if not up to 35mm standards. One minor complaint is that the camera is normally in flash mode. You have to push a button twice to turn off the flash. Also - for photo enthusiasts - there is no data visible on the camera's settings for a given photo and no manual overrides. All in all, however, a nice package. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars What a piece of . . .
I love purple, own tons of things that are purple. I loved the idea of this camera and something great for those short trips, etc. I load the first roll of film and have a blast on the Navy Pier in Chicago for the day. I buy more film and then jet to Mexico. I TRY to load the next roll of film! Nothing! Am I wrong!? I see the problem and was unable to ever resolve it! And what's worse is that I bought the identical gift for a friend's daughter in England! She can't return it now and I wonder if it is still working for her. I am too embarassed to ask! You get what you pay for!!! Not another Vivitar product!

2-0 out of 5 stars I love it, but mine was defective.
What I loved about mine, which I bought from amazon.com, was that it was cute, stylish, small, and very lightweight. APS and three photo sizes, including panorama, is what drew me to it initially. Then the transluscent color. But mine was defective, and I don't know how common that is for this model. I wish more people would post ratings. With mine, the film did not "drop in" so nice, it had to be forced in, then got stuck inside and did not want to come out. Also, (and most importantly) it did not take the 3 different sizes of pictures. I slid the slider to the 3 different positions throughout the roll, but it only took one size the whole way through. So, I had bad luck. Maybe yours won't be defective, they can't all be, can they? If you get a non-defective one, you'll love it 'cause it's cute, small, and very light. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Good compact camera.
My friend borrowed this camera from me and just loved it. So far I have not heard a complaint. When I do use it myself, I shall let readers know.

5-0 out of 5 stars Half the price of an Elph 370, but a better camera
I tried the Elph 370 and the cheaper Elph but this camera is better than both. Small, easy to use, easier film-loading, longer battery life, more features, much more attractive than the cheap looking Elph 370. All three however, aren't particularly good with red-eye(hey, it ain't a 500 dollar SLR!), other than that, a great camera... Selecting a different flash or camera mode was easier than the Elphs also. For the casual photographer, it is a steal. It fits in your pocket, has a 3x zoom, and it has a small plastic camera attachment for a self-portrait, but what would I want that for? Maybe you could use that.

5-0 out of 5 stars Love this camera
... i recieved it yesterday. I love it! Its easy to use and is tiny. The buttons are not too small.... The zoom is great. It has a remote and this cute little mirror that goes on top so you can take self-portrates. The flash is very strong... I would compare this camera to an Elph, but with better zoom and a remote.

5-0 out of 5 stars Since there is no specs, i'll do it
This sounds like a really great camera. I'm about to order it, so I can't tell you myself how it runs, but it is only a tiny bit larger that the elph 270(not even 1/2 inch longer). It also costs alot less, even ... manufacturares price is less that the ... in should be. 5-0 out of 5 stars Great little camera
I've had this camera for a few months now and I'm very pleased with it. The quality of the pictures is good for such a low price. It's just a fun little camera to mess around with...so get it.

2-0 out of 5 stars Easy to use - but !!!
This is easy to use with good instructions included. The three size choice of photo is excellent and the quality very good. Unfortunately this camera is very light and has no real "feel" to it. Also, both myself and my parents have had this camera for just over a year and both are now broken. In my opinion the build quality is not as good as it could be. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars a great camera for keeping with you at all times
i bought the kodak advatix c450 simply because i needed a camera i could just keep in my handbag and whip out whenever necessary. i have plenty of [costly] large cameras which i use for major events or planned shoots but this is a nice, light, point-and-snap camera which is [less costly] and easy to keep with you without logging round a large camera case! the three pictures shots make for more control over your pictures and the autofocus means it is as simple and flicking it open and clicking. for a first time camera buyer or for someone who just wants an easy camera this is a good buy. ... 70. Canon Elph 490Z APS Camera Kit
by Canon

Asin: B00004SC3Z
Catlog: Photography
Manufacturer: Canon
Sales Rank: 7158
Average Customer Review: 4.33 out of 5 stars
US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France | Japan

Amazon.com Product Description

This remarkably small 4x zoom Advanced Photo System camera is the first of its size to offer a high-performance lens with a wide zoom ratio. The Elph 490Z conceals its 22.5-90mm 4x zoom lens behind a swing-open cover and retains the "box and circle" construction of the original Elph, making it compact and nearly flat with the lift-up lens cover closed. The Elph 490Z is 40 percent smaller in volume and 20 percent lighter than the Sure Shot Z135, the most similar previous Canon model in terms of zoom ratio. It fits in almost any shirt pocket and weighs less than 11 ounces. Despite the Canon Elph 490Z's diminutive stature, its aluminum body feels sturdy.

The Canon Elph 490Z offers completely automatic operation and features a five-mode automatic flash with red-eye reduction, five-point hybrid Ai-AF Smart Autofocus, automatic film transport with drop-in loading, and a self-timer function. It also features Canon's exclusive Best Shot Dial, which offers six different shooting modes. The Best Shot Dial automatically combines several possible function settings to render ideal camera settings for specific types of shooting conditions and subject matter. The user simply sets the Best Shot Dial to the desired shooting mode, and the Elph 490Z takes care of everything else.

Another highlight of the Canon Elph 490Z is its parallax-compensation viewfinder. Since point-and-shoot cameras have a separate viewfinder and lens, often there is a significant difference (called parallax) between the viewfinder field and the actual image area captured by the lens during close-up photography. The Elph 490Z's automatic parallax-compensation function shifts the entire viewfinder image to compensate for this difference.

The Canon Elph 490Z, like all APS cameras, offers three print formats as well as date imprinting, caption options, and IX capabilities. While it does not offer midroll change, it does include midroll rewind.

Canon backs this camera with a one-year warranty. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Buy this Camera!
I bought the Canon Elph 490Z to use on my trip to Europe. While abroad, this camera was incredible. The Canon Elph 490Z is very tiny and lightweight (about 11 oz.), so I didn't hesitate about carrying this camera everywhere I traveled. Also, the camera's aluminum body handled very well during the trip; there were no breakage or scratches. Furthermore, the features of this camera were great. The 4x zoom lens enabled me to capture distant objects, while the parallax compensation viewfinder allowed me to more accurately capture objects up close. I developed 15 rolls of film from this camera. The photos look crisp and colorful, and there was no red eye in the ones with family and friends. I definitely recommend the Canon Elph 490Z!

4-0 out of 5 stars One Quality Camera
If you are looking for a point and shoot camera that is fun and easy to use, look no further. The Canon Elph 490Z is the camera you have to buy! If you are the type that doesn't know much about taking pictures, but desires to have a camera that is simple yet gives outstanding pictures this camera is for you!

4-0 out of 5 stars Everything You Want in your APS compact Zoom Camera!
This is a very well designed and compact camera. The Elph's well designed size allows it to fit anywhere, (i.e. handbag, pocket, and glovebox) easily and effectively. Therefore, you want to carry it more, and take far too many pictures. As a result, of Cannon using APS technology greatly enhances the clearity of the pictures, along with the additional processing price as well. The "H" setting or HGTV angle Cannon uses though greatly distorts the edges of picture, one is taking. Lastly, another negative I have encountered is the length of life the Lithium (Expensive) battery has a short life.

In spite of some of Elph's shortcomings, I am planning on purchasing a 2nd Elph for my mother, since it is a very convinent and easy to use device. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Waste of Time!
Geez, if there is a half-star rating here, i could have selected that one, giving this camera 1 star is too much i think... The pictures are all [bad]! no picture came out good at all... everything was blurred and every shot was so bright, everybody was white. No part of the pictures are in clear focus. Would return this camera right away. Olympus disappointed me on this one... I love olympus camera, had three 35mm Olympus cameras and they were all great. that's not the case when I switched to APS camera by Olympus.

I don't know if the Newpic Zoom 90 is better than this one. I called olympus and they said the I Zoom 3000 is better than the Newpic Zoom 90, because it is newer. I can't find any online store now that sells newpic 90 brand new, if there is, it is way too much expensive, but its reviews were cool.

This camera is NOT RECOMMENDED! stay away. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Mediocre deal at best
It is an alright camera. Not exactly worth the price since I do believe the Elph LT is more worth it and its cheaper. Pretty much similar functions. If you are looking for an entry level nice looking camera, this or the Elph would fit your bill. Don't expect too much from its features. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars great camera
i would recommend this camera to everyone..it's such a great camera and i've had it for 5 years atleast! dropped it a couple times but still worked good.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Camera, Great Quality
I've had my Elph APS camera for 3 or 4 years now, and I love it! It takes high quality pictures, the APS film is easy to load, and it has lasted me year after year. I would recommend this product to anyone looking for a simple, quality camera - I'm even looking into purchasing an Elph Digital camera, based on my experience with this Elph APS.

4-0 out of 5 stars Elph 260 owner from Boston
I love this camera... I got it for a birthday present 2 yrs ago
Great product... Only thing my camera has a small problem with the shutter closing. Other than that great buy

4-0 out of 5 stars Great, convenient little camera with APS capability.
I received this camera as a gift several years ago, and I haven't been disappointed. The Elph is a small, convenient camera with several great features, including the APS system, a timer, and a zoom lens. It takes incredibly sharp, clear pictures using any type of film. I only have two minor complaints: 1) an even longer zoom lens would be great, and 2) the manual doesn't do a good enough job of explaining the various types of flash modes. But overall, I recommend the Elph to any amateur photographer looking to take great pictures without a lot of hassle.

3-0 out of 5 stars Great camera while it lasted
I was thrilled with the results of the camera, great panoramic pictures, great night shots, and everything one could ask for.
However, one fine day, the camera just stopped working. The manufacturers looked at it and pointed out something about problems in power. I was expected to pay a lotfor repairs.BR>It was very disappointing. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome Camera!
I love my new Elph. It is so tiny, I don't even notice it when I'm wearing it on my belt. I love the panoramic shots that I can take. This camera is so compact. The icture quality is perfect. I have never taken a bad picture with my Elph. Sometimes I wish it had a zoom function in it but I still love it. I highly recommend this camera. I got it for my trip to CA. I can't wait to take some great pictures out there.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great camera to carry all the time
The Elph JR brings with it the biggest advantage that any camera can have: you are able to always have a camera with you without the extra weight or bulk of a normal 35mm. In snapshot-size print quality comparison to my Nikon 6006, two Pentax MXs, and a Pentax point-and-shoot, the Elph holds its own with the Nikon & Pentax, but blows away the point and shoot. The non-zoom lens is an advantage, since it is much faster and therefore handles low light better, which is important with a tiny camera with a weak flash.

Drawbacks: no mid-roll film change ability; APS film is 24mm and doesn't enlarge as well (but is necessary for a camera of this size); APS is expensive to develop; camera will not retain the "no flash" or "fill flash" setting after it is turned off (returns to auto-flash); camera is spot focus (actually is an advantage if you realize this ahead of time); no ASA 800 film (but is this a disadvantage?).

Advantages: easy to carry (perfect weight, size); glass lens for clarity; C-41 black & white film is available; lots of functions like exposure & focus lock, time exposure, fill flash (this importance can't be stressed enough), and for some unexplained reason everyone considers it a "neat" gadget. Even the airport security fellow played around with it when I forgot it was on my belt and almost walked through the metal detector. He turned it over and over while saying "Thats a camera. I've never seen one so small."

Hints: Use 400 speed only due to the size; use the exposure/focus lock feature since the camera is "spot" focus only and you might get many ill-exposed & fuzzy pictures if you frame your subject off-center (read the manual); use a quality developer (I found a local private 1 hour place that turns out good stuff. A discount developer will make this camera look like a dud. I almost sent mine back after the first roll, but then tried another lab); buy one of those... wire tripods and you won't regret it (you'll get yourself in vacation pictures too since it also carries in your pocket); don't expect miracles with the small flash so plan ahead.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great little camera
I got this camera in 1998 at a flea market for $30, the guy said he never put a battery in it, so he didnt' even know if it worked, so I was possibly buying a camera that didn't even work. I decided to try it.
I've had the camera for 6 years and haven't had one problem with it...and now that I have 2 kids, it has been dropped, etc, and still works better than any (non zoom) camera I've ever had. There is a feature that you can put 5 sayings on your pictures, but i've never used it. This camera went to Italy with me, and has travelled many stated in the eastern US, and still stands up to everything. if anything ever happens to this camera, I will buy another of the same exact style!!

1-0 out of 5 stars Mine Broke!
After 18 months of treating this camera like gold and being reasonably satisfied with the quality of the images (as long as they weren't enlarged), one day it just stopped working with the lens partially extended, frozen in place. All the repair shops want $100 to fix it. For $100 I could buy a new one. It was cute while it lasted, but I've bought a Yashica T4 (the original - not the awful zoom remake with the same name) instead. It's not nearly as small, but this elph is just too fragile.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great little camera!
What a great little camera!! I got this for Christmas last year and since it's so small.. I take it with me wherever I go. The picture quality is great. There are three settings to choose from for picture size and you can add the date and time if you wish.
I'm not a camera professional by an means but if you're looking for a great little camera, this is the one. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good camera for a buck...
I try to stay away from APS in general. It was a gift from me for my mom since she wanted small easy camera with an average zoom. It's a simple design with suprisingly good picture quality. Automatic flash does the great job in mixed lighting environment. Pictures are sharp and crisp. Color saturation is outstanding. Even if APS film is limited and negative size is smaller than regular 35mm film I was really amazed by the quality. My mom who is not the most technical person had no problems operating the controls or loading the camera. It was a piece of cake for her in no time. Also very nice weatherproof box that came with the camera protected the piece in the rain. Leica did a really nice job and even if the camera is little bigger than elphs and nikon nuvis it is worth every penny.

I very rearly shoot with point and shoots I prefer medium format cameras as well as 35mm SLRs but about now Im thinking about getting one of those Leicas as my pocket snap shot/ location scout piece.

5-0 out of 5 stars Lots of fun. And looks stylish.
When I saw this camera for the first time I was probably the victim of irrational thought processes, seduced by the stylish minimalism and the Leica Logo of course.

However, after almost a year of use I have been really impressed by how easy it is to take good quality snaps. I always use good quality 400 and 800 film to avoid the use of flash and regularly load up with Kodak B&W 400 Advantix for excellent Black and white shots.

I have taken school sports day photos, holiday snaps, B&W panoramic landscapes on misty mornings in Cornwall and party snaps / candids and all types of photos between. The Leica performs without fuss, is easy to use, has incredible battery life and looks stunning. The case is virtually waterproof (heavy shower resistant anyway) and tough. The Fuji mechanism and lens is smooth and has never failed. Superb.

(I also use Minolta SLRs , Ricoh GR1s and Yashica T5 compacts and the Leica C11 stands up well in this company.)

3-0 out of 5 stars Nice looks....OK pics
I am not sure if it's the camera or ASP film but the pics the camera took were on par with a cheap 35mm camera. I tried ASP film from both Fuji and Kodak 100,200,400. Before this camera I had an Olympus Stylus Zoom. Now that was an excellent P&S camera. This is my first Leica, they are suppose to be good, but I don't know. The camera looks great, a little bulky but unfortunately I cannot recommend it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Leica's first APS camera is excellent for what it is
I bought this camera the first week it came out because I thought it looked fantastic, and, well, I really like Leica cameras. This is my first APS camera and I really like it. It takes very nice pictures, although not on the same quality level as my Leica Minilux 35mm P&S, and it is very easy to use. Best of all, the auto focus system is very fast and accurate. If you want a stylish APS camera this one is worth considering. The quality is high, the finish is outstanding, and the feel is that of a very well made device. Although it is not as small as the Elph (Canon) it is a very portable camera that is fun to shoot. Too bad APS film choices are so limited :-( If you want super-high-quality images, however, I'd recommend a 35mm camera as the small APS negative size (24mm) will never match the 35mm in quality. For standard 4X7 images though, it is nice and the APS design is sooo easy to use (and store). ... Read more

Amazon.com Product Description

The T550 Advantix includes PQix (Picture Quality Information Exchange),a feature that records vital screen data on the film's magnetic strip. Your filmprocessor then uses this information to optimize lighting and color for evenmore accurate and amazing prints. In place of all those loose negatives, youreceive a numbered, easy-to-reference index print of all your shots. And thenegatives stay in the film cartridge so there's no smudging or scratching.

The clever flash, which has an 18-foot range (5.5 meters) with 200 speed film, flips up to put extra distance between flash and lens to help eliminate red-eyeproblems. This innovative design also prevents the photographer frominadvertently covering the flash with a finger. The flash then flips down toturn off the camera and protect the lens, acting as the lens cover.

The T550 Advantix comes with several other features to enhance yourpicture-taking and the final prints. The real-image viewfinder shows the picturesize and format chosen, allowing for easy composition. With the time/date/titlestamp you can add messages to the back of your prints--in five differentlanguages. 3-0 out of 5 stars Not everything included was shipped
A real disappointment. The carrying pouch and the organizer/memory keeper were not included. I went with the gift boxed camera because this was all-inclusive. The camera is a great buy, but lets not advertise a camera "bundle" unless one can deliver. This consumer didn't receive what was decribed.

5-0 out of 5 stars Well worth it
The Kodak Advantix T550 Gift Box is a terrific buy. The camera itself is lightweight and easy to use. The autofocus prevents problems when there are multiple subjects in the picture, and the Red-Eye Reduction truly works. The fact that you're also given a wealth of goodies including the Kodak Picture CD, film, batteries, strap, and lots of coupons make this a great deal. Why buy just the camera when for the same price you can get a bunch of free stuff that makes the camera more fun to use? ... Read more
