Good one for amateurs.
I liked it, though the absense of the tilting action is a drawback. However, with certain movements of the camera on the head, the tilting action can be achieved. Ideal for a camcorder, however, I would say a bit heavy for the casual photographer like me.

An average tripod
I bought and returned this tripod. It's mostly plastic, and seemed flimsy. The head movement was jerky, even with a lightweight DV camera.

unipod
people don't understand the use of a unipod. they're not supposed to be used in replacement of your tripod. you would bring this to a play, or something of that nature. to keep the camera from shaking. it's not supposed to stand on it's own.

A "Must Have" !
For the Telephoto Camera user this is a must have item to capture those "Once In A Life Time" shots. Its much handier to use and carry than a Tripod. Everone should use one for every shot. You'd be surprised at the quality of your pictures, no more blurred shots from the shaking of a hand held camera. This Unipod is a basic model, but its all you need and it's advantage is that it is very light weight compaired to more elaborate models. The only thing you might want to consider adding is a Ball Head Camera Mount. Also at the end of a long day of shooting, with it's padded hand grip, you can use it as a Walking Stick!

Velbon UP-4000 A really great very adaptable product
I purchased the Velbon 4000 monopod while on a vacation to Alaska. I needed it to take those late evening shots that needed slow shutter speeds. It's wonderfully compact attaches easily to the camera base and I found it quite comfortable to leave attached to the camera as I walked with the camera strapped to my neck. It easily extended to any length. It was so useful that with a short trip to a machine shop I built an adapter so that I could take and use it as a shooting stick for my hunts.

Does exactly what it says on the box
Don't get too hung up on the decision if you are considering this tripod and on paper it does everything you want it to do. Take it from me, it is amazing value for money. I purchased mine from Fry's Electronics for ten spot more than here (doh!) and I'm still happy as a happy thing with it.

It does just about everything you could want a portable tripod to do, I bought it for the purpose of throwing in the back of my truck rather than trying to lug a big old studio 'pod around with me wherever I go (I hate to miss a shot for want of a steady spot) and in the use it has had over the last few weeks, it seems to be a great mix of size, features and weight. Sure, it isn't super duper rigid, sure the fluidity of the joints leaves something to be desired, but for goodness sake, this isn't some high end carbon fibre/magnesium alloy poser 'pod, look at the price! A 'pod for the common man!

In terms of negatives, I wish it cost five spot more and came with a bag (tripod bags are useful sometimes, though not something you can't do without), and a slightly more 'finger accessible' tripod screw might be nice (if you want the quick release puck for the tripod on tight, you do it with a coin, works well and keeps it compact, just a little inconvenient if you don't have a coin to hand.)

All in all, a tremendous piece of kit. Amazing price, here especially. Does what you need.

EXCELLANT!! BETTER THAN EXPECTED!!!
When I chose to buy this tripod I was a little skeptical about purchasing without really seeing it. I was very lucky. This tripod is everything I wanted. Lightweight. Easy to use. It has a level so that you can be sure that your pictures will be accurately shot and not crooked. It moves in several different directtions so that you can shoot from most angles. I carry this thing around everywhere I go! I thougth it came with its own travel bag, probably one drawback to it. But overall a great tripod.

Get what you pay for.
I just got my CX-570 in the mail today and it seems to be everything that the review said it was. I'm just a sometime photographer but I needed a new tripod that was not too expensive, but of good quality. This one seems very solid, and has all the necessary features that I would ever need. ... Lightweight Champion
This compact tripod fufills all my needs, except for table top usage. It's a well made product that sets-up and folds-up for storage quick usage or storage. All of this at a really low price.

Handy little pod
This was not the little pod I wanted to buy, but Amazon was out at the time. However, now that I have it, it is working great. Features I was looking for were light weight, small size, and (obviously) stable. So far, it meets all those expectations for a very small price. The legs extend smoothly and still lock down solid. When fully extended, I think the pod is quite solid, even when I am moving the camera while shooting video with camcorder. It has all the different movement points lockable so once you set it where you want it, it stays put.

Lightweight, but weak link is connection to equip
This is not my primary tripod. It is being used for binoculars while I'm out at the telescope and is probably light enough to carry in a backpack. Seems strudy enough, but it has shortcomings right at the most important link. The quick release shoe is a small plastic piece held into the tripod by a plastic cam. The 1/4"x20 screw that holds binocs (with binoc adapter) or camera or a small telescope is tightened by a tiny plastic knob from underneath the quick release shoe before the shoe is locked onto the tripod head using the cam. This tiny knob is too small to be tightened securely using fingers and you must use a coin, not a screw driver, to tighten it securely. It still comes loose. The lightest most compact, sturdiest tripod is no good if your equipment can't be attached securely and part way through a session swings loose and swivels to one side requireing releasing the shoe and retighteneing the screw. ... ... better than nothing
Quick release is a poor design. The plate is difficult to tighten, and even at that, slight camera movement loosens it off. The interface between plate and tripod is poor too, made of plastic, the tolerances to fit are sloppy and there is a little snap mechanism to hold the securing latch that loses tension over time, rendering it useless. As a tripod, it is very unsteady with center mast extended and lowest legs extended. If used with just the legs splayed and the camera bag looped over the legs for weight/ballast, it does a fine job, and in that respect, better than nothing. All locks work well with the exception of the plate latch/lock which is the most important one. This tripod is relegated to holding a flash for me.

Save your money and buy something more substantial.

Tripod serves it's purpose. For those of you who are just playing around with photography like I am, this tripod does the job. Built decently for what you pay for. The movement seems pretty smooth to me. The only thing I did not like were the legs. They're quite troublesome to extend and they sometimes got a little stuck. OK tripod - for heavy video equipment only
This is a top notch, heavy duty tripod for video needs, NOT photographic. If you own a camera such as D1, F5, D30, etc this tripod will overwhelm you and add serious bulk. For cameras, checkout the Velbon SX-681K (...).

But for video needs, this adds the extra support you need - especially for larger video cameras. Load capacity is 30 lbs., and max height is 70". Biggest complaint is LACK of pan head: there is none, so you'd have to buy it on your own. ... Read more

Superb tripod for low shots
I really like this tripod for two reasons.

1) Velbon quality. Velbon makes great tripods. Yes, you could spend thousands for a pro tripod, but you dont have to!

2) Height. I have a large tripod (Velbon model ordered from Amazon) that I use for portrait shots, etc. However, for macro owrk and other shots that require close quarter and/or low to ground access, this is excellent.

This Hakuba carbon fiber tripod is a lightweight well-made item that provides good value for the price. However, it is NOT the Velbon CARMAGNE 640 advertised. The CARMAGNE is a carbon fiber tripod with a magnesium top - hence the name CAR (for carbon) MAGNE (for magnesium). The item offered is the cheaper version manufactured by Hakuba (which I believe is the parent company of Velbon) and has ALUMINUM components, not magnesium...
