Great telescope..bad information
I recently bought this telescope on the night of a full moon,I liked the ease of putting it together.The telescope came with instructions on how to put it together however there was no guide what so ever for using the telescope.I had a terrible time getting to a Tasco web page to order a users guide or assessaries.The internet site said that they would be up and running in early 2001,however at the time of my writing this it is Sept.2001.The full moon was amazing through the telescope,I was able to see indivisual craters.Gave it 3 stars because of lack of a users guide and internet help site.

Excellent Choice!
This is the first telescope I've actually owned, so I can't compare the quality to anything other than itself, but I don't think I could come close to the quality of this telescope anywhere else at this price! Even at it's lowest power(20 mm), I could see a white region on the planet Mars (polar ice caps). Although the image was very blurry, I blame this more on the angle at which I had to view the planet through the atmosphere. I have yet to test the telescope to my own personal expectations, the rings around Saturn, but I have a good idea that I will be able to see them at least faintly. The only disappointment is the lack of directions for using the dials to locate objects in the sky. THERE ARE NO DIRECTIONS FOR USING THIS TELESCOPE, only directions to assemble the tripod. I figured it out not knowing anything about telescopes, but it is easiest to just point it out there and start looking! I highly recommend PLANETARIUM for the palm pilot to use as a reference guide. .... Also, since this telescope is so powerful, you will constantly need to be adjusting to follow the object with the rotation of the Earth; it's really easy to do with the extended knobs. This tripod is able to take a motor mount, but I heard those cost almost as much as the telescope itself. ....Enjoy... ... Read more

Good, inexpensive, durable
I ordered a pair of these for my ten year old God son. After opening them just to make sure they had arrived undamaged, I soon realized that he had no chance of ever getting them unless I ordered another pair. If You Need Compact Binoculars, Look No Further
I looked at many compact binoculars before settling on this pair, and I haven't been disappointed. Small and light enough for a coat pocket, fanny pack, or even a generous pants pocket...distortion free viewing....and a nifty zoom feature for close-ups which is rather unusual in compact models. Junk.
The only thing this piece of junk will accomplish is to disappoint a child and discourage them from develping scientific interests. It's useless. Literally. It cannot be used as a microscope.

Either buy a better microscope, like the Meade sold by Amazon, or buy a quality hand-held magnifying glass.

Don't waste your money. Get a Meade.
I know that's blunt, but the images are completely unacceptable on this microscope. As a child, I had a microscope much like the TASCO I purchased. Now, as a working scientist/laboratory technician with considerable microscopy, I know why I was so unhappy with that microscope. For the same reasons I don't recommend this microscope, because it's difficult to focus and even when focused the images are poor. For an additional 30 dollars, your child could have a microscope that actually works, and might not merely gather dust after the New Year.

Suitable for kids but not adult starters
The kit is good enough, but the plastic material from bottom to top including the slides, that is something to note, it is lightweight as mentioned. I did not like the plastic toy in our tables. Anyway great kit for your kids. ... Read more

Nice little monocular
This is a nice little monocular you could easily carry in a pocket or purse 5 3/8 by 1 3/8 inches. It does come with a soft case that has a belt loop on the back

The optics are VERY good. As a test; I read the numbers of a license plate at more than 150 yards.

I like this monocular a lot, but I have two problems with it.

1. You focus the monocular by twisting the eye cup. Over time this may cause the rubber eye cup to come off.

2. there are no lens caps to keep the lenses clean. Tasco did provide lens cleaning cloths with the monocular, but in my opinion; the best way to handle this is to provide lens caps so the lens will not get dirty in the first place. If you are not careful; you could scratch the lenses while trying to clean them.

Tasco/compass
Good size and rate ratio. I compared this with the Nikon version, twice as bulky, same compass design. Optics very useable. I would wish for a wider field of vision, a compass that superimposes itself a bit better. I'm not sure such a binocular exists, so Tasco good value for money.

tasco off-shore binoculars
Excellent clarity even in low light. Field of view better than most for those of us who wear glasses. Easy to view and read compass. Red light in compass for nighttime use bright enough to see even in daylight. Only 1 problem encountered; that was in aligning the batteries to fully illuminate the compass light. I had to reinsert them several times to get good contact. Once that was accomplished it works perfectly. Overall an excellent piece of equipment for the price. In my opinion Steiner make a better one but it costs 3x as much as Tasco. Unless you plan on putting these binoculars to VERY rugged use (I'm not) these are perfectly adequate for the job at hand--- recreational boating and hiking. ... Read more
