You get what you pay for.
This is the lens that came packaged with my Nikon N80. I've used it for over 1 year and deem it average. The autofocus is slow and noisy. Lens flare is an issue at almost every focal length. And the focus ring rotates which makes using a circular polarizer something of a pain. For [the price]it is passable. However, I recommend that you dig deeper in your pockets and buy something more robust and without the aforementioned niggling problems.

Great Zoom lens
I just bought mine today at Kenmore Camera, in Kenmore, Wa. They said it is the most popular zoom lens that they sell. I was initially looking for a lense that is good for portraits and they directed me to the Tamron AF 75-300mm 4-5.6 LD with Hood (Black). They showed me how it works and it really is cool how it blurs the background so that the subject stands out beautifully. Picture taking of people has never been easier because you don't have to worry about the background, hardly at all. You can have a pile of laundry in the background and it wont make much of a difference....It is awesome. I can't wait to develop my first roll. They also strongly suggested that I get the UV filter to go with as it magnifies the light and can seriously damage your eyes over time. I of course did, by the way. I highy recommend this lens. ...
