2-0 out of 5 stars ...
It's kind of cute, solid & doesn't feel flimsy in your hands.
I liked the array of options & it's ease of use for deleting, uploading, and scrolling thru saved images - But.....
No Zoom, Focus is really hard to deal with, as its just a tiny little metal tab that you need an entire hand to adjust, as you focus on your image - The resolution is decent, optional B&W or cropped imaging, but the lack of zoom leaves a lot of images untouchable. The lighting sensor - just stinks. After using this for a few days - It was quite obviously defective. Battery pack drained completely, would never hold a charge for longer than 5 minutes (after charging for over 12 hours) The memory card would short out, occasionally locking up & wiping out anything that was saved. (Fixing it required unlocking the battery & replacing it) Many photo's were corrupted with strange stripes - Basically, it isn't worth the plastic it's housed in. You can certainly do better for $... (or the ... that my gift giver paid for it, a year ago)
Take a picture of something that is moving slightly, even a hand, or someone talking - and it blurs the entire image.

2-0 out of 5 stars Borders on being a toy.
You can (and should) do a lot better than this in a digital camera at this price. It has a rather low resolution, a fixed focus lens, no zoom, and no USB connectivity. Anyone interested in simple digital photography will very soon be looking for a more advanced camera, while the SDC-80 gathers dust in a drawer. If you want cheap, look at the JamCams; if you want easy, look at the Sony Mavs.

4-0 out of 5 stars SDC-80 - Decent Price with Extras...
This is a decent enrty-level cam, a tad pricey for its features. A good deal if you find the $100 rebate (for college students only) from edu.com. If you're looking for a top-notch digital cam, look elsewhere. The camera's better suited for simply getting pics on your PC, which is all I needed.

Here's the details...

1,024 x 768 pixels (high) 640 x 480 pixels (middle) Color depth - 24 Bit CCD chip with 850,000 pixels

4x digital zoom

The cam includes a 4Mb Smartmedia card (aka digital film) that you can pop out, and has ports for PAL/NTSC video output (suprisingly). It also comes with a Li rechargeable battery and AC adapter, which is worth probably $30+ by itself.... ... Read more

Amazon.com Product Description

Samsung has been making both film cameras and camcorders for many years now, first as a manufacturer for a major Japanese camera company, and now on its own. The years of experience have paid off, and Samsung now sells high-quality, low-cost, entry-level camcorders under its own name.

The SCL-520 includes a 22x optical (440x digital) zoom lens, plus a 2.5-inch swivel-screen LCD for composing and reviewing your videos. The biggest feature we wished this camera included? Image stabilization. But if you have a steady hand, or don't mind if your movies have that slightly shaky traditional camcorder look (think The Blair Witch Project), the SCL-520 gives you a lot of camcorder for the price. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Small, stylish but one thing is not good
I bought this camcorder from amazon.com for $313.88. This camera is stylish, small with many features. Auto Exposures modes, Preset titiles like Anniversary, Birthday, Our Son, Our Boy e.t.c. The normal zoom is great but when you activate the digital zoom which is 440x and zoom in at a far object it zooms but the focus becomes blur some what. This is even written in the guide which comes with the camera. I dont know why this kind of fault is left in such a good camera with so many functions which are difficult to get in this price range. It also has a BLC function. On activating it the background becomes dull and the object becomes bright so that you can shoot in front of a window also. The tape insertion and ejection system is fully automatic and works only with power on. I like this feature the way the compartment comes up and opens automatically and how it goes back. Thats the coolest feature. There is also a range of languages to select from and the lcd viewver, TFT screen works fine if you see it from the front and not from sides. Overall this is the best camera with so many features the only thing lagging is the focus on doing digital zoom.

5-0 out of 5 stars Incredibly great!
I used it for weeks. It was astonishing. After I actualy shot some baby pictures, I knew my dedision was correct. Great picture and steady shot....

4-0 out of 5 stars fine camera
It's a camera which makes good pictures, I developed 4 rolls and not a single shot missed out (I use 200 iso film). I found out that it is better not to use the zoom in low light conditions. There are some disadvantages however, the buttons on top are too small, and espacially the flashmode and the on-off button should be larger. I found out that I don't use the functions on the wheel. For me the camera would have been ideal if the functions on the wheel would be on-off and the flash modes and the functions that are on the wheel now could then go to the tiny buttons. But.. perfect pictures still recommend it.

4-0 out of 5 stars GREAT VALUE, GREAT COMBINATION OF FEATURES
Looking for a reasonable price camera with up to date features? This camera is great for beginners, or a camera buff that wants something practical. Small, great for your pocket on trips. Great combination camera at a price that is not too high for your loved one that wants to try new things but also may have a tendency to loose things. 1-0 out of 5 stars Save your money...get a camera from a real camera company
I bought this camera with high expectations about two years ago...and have been riddled with problems ever since. I was hesistant to buy a Samsung camera, as this company is not very established in photography...but the features offered for the money seemed too good to pass up. When the camera does take pictures, they are of pretty good quality (except that the red-eye reduction frequently gets shut off by the brush of an unknowing fingertip)...but this happens rarely. From a month old the shutter would not open completely which ruined many shots...then a few weeks later, the drop-in loading became very tempermental. After a year of fighting with film...the camera decided to reject film altogether...leaving me stranded in Italy purchasing zillion-dollar disposables. ...

5-0 out of 5 stars This is "THE APS CAMERA"!!
I have used this camera for more than a year now and believe me, it's a great camera. I travel a lot and I have over 500 photos now which I washed after using this camera and each one of them is extremely satisfying. They come out clear and with excellent quality. I like this one. It's good value for money.

1-0 out of 5 stars poor quality
I am glad Amazon has a good return policy. This camera seemed great, but it is very flimsy and broke quickly. The film compartment became stuck open and I had to use a screwdriver to rewind the film to get it out. I should have paid attention to the other review that complained of the same thing, and I should have realized - Samsung is not known for making cameras.

5-0 out of 5 stars An extremely decent camera for the money
This camera is a great deal for the price. It features the APS film system and a great zoom lens [80mm] at a price that is less than many other manufacturers' non-zoom APS cameras.

The zoom is controlled and as powerful as one can reasonably expect. Generally speaking, the camera is both extremely easy to use and reliable. Used properly, it takes very good pictures. It is every bit as small as many much more expensive APS cameras, though it is a tad heavier than some. Overall, the Impax 300ix is a great bargain and an even better camera.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great things do come in small packages
This is my fourth still camera (one other Samsung zoom) and my second APS. I can't believe all they have packed into such a small package. It's extremely versatile, and I have had nothing but excellent results with it. I've put it through the paces in a variety of situations and settings, and it has always come through for me. Because of its size, I always carry it with me. It gets more use (and usually better results) than my three other cameras combined. Great for someone who doesn't want to sacrifice quality for convenience. ... Read more

I recently purchased this camera after having a previous samsung for a few years. It takes great pictures and the effects are great. The ad states that it has a switchable panoramic mode which it does not so that was disappointing, but having the panoramic before I never used it much anyway. 5-0 out of 5 stars Great Beginner Camera
We had used a decent quality camcorder before our son bought this one. This one has been a pleasant surprise. Although the picture quality might be more like 4 stars, the features that are provided at such a low cost make this a 5 star product. It has all the fundamentals for a beginner and it fits well in medium size and small size hands (unlike some that require two hands or very large hands or cost five times as much for a small form-factor). We had it out of the box in minutes and were recording first videos with it in less than 15 minutes. The price makes it affordable for school kids to have all kinds of fun projects with it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Camera and Worth the Money!!
Overall, I'd like to say that this camera is a beautiful and inexpensive camera with great features. I bought mine at [a physical store] becuase Amazon.com didn't have any in stock but it has 22x optical zoom, and 880 digital zoom which is amazing!! The main reason I bought this camera is beacuse I will be goin to Italy for this summer and also Tunisia and I needed a camcorder, (It is my first one). It has a PAL system built in which means that you can basically use it anywhere in the world. The visuals are great and it has digital effects such as, black and white, fade, black light, mirror, sepia, negative picture, art, mosaic, 16:9, and cinema. Maybe the only bad thing is that it doesn't have an image stabilizer but it doesn't really bother me beacuse the other Samsung that does costs about [much more]. I would reccomend getting a Camcorder bag and an extra Lithium-Ion battery if your going to use it alot. It has two features that one is, EASY which everything advanced is turned off, more for begginers, and then a CUSTOM setting where you can customize everything the way you want it. It comes with the AC Adapter and the cable, a Lithium-Ion battery, hand strap, shoulder strap, lens cover, and AV cables which work great! Another great thing about it is that it is very small and it has a light you can turn on that helps just as good as if you were in a pitch black room and you couldn't see and you turned on a flash light. I reccomend this camera to begginners and expirienced people. I LOVE this camera!!

1-0 out of 5 stars Worst quality I've seen in a long time
Pretty cheap for a Hi8 camcorder, but quality is unacceptably poor. The zoom lever is hard to operate, and when you put in a tape the mechanism makes tons of noise, really making you nervous. LCD screen is a little flaky, deciding to quit working occasionally so you have to turn the machine off, wait 10 seconds and turn it back on. It also destroyed a new TDK Hi8 tape this past winter. I think I wasted my money, and look forward to getting a Sony this summer when I get a new job.

1-0 out of 5 stars Malfunction after short time
The camcorder worked only a couple of times. Then the playback picture was totally .......

5-0 out of 5 stars Easy light , user friendly and comes with a remote!!!!!!!!!!
Looking for an entry level cam corder that will not break your budget; this is it. It has some wonderful functions such as digital effects and though it can be shaky if you do not really steady it with a tripod or by holding it firmly this little gem is a great first time camera. It is incredibly light and to make shooting possibilities even more enticing comes with a remote control unlike its 249.oo junior. Otherwise these cameras are identical.

5-0 out of 5 stars ****ONE OF THE BEST***
I am an avid photographer who has tried many cameras. I have found this one to be one of the best, if not THE BEST, point-and-shoot cameras around. I got it as a gift 3-4 years ago, and I'm still lovin' it. I'll probably buy another one if this one ever dies on me (hopefully no time soon). Excellent job, Samsung!!!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars THE BEST
This has been the best camera I've ever had. I never had a problem with it. The pictures always came out nice and sharp. It broke down after 7 years, and I have not been able to find one to replace it! This camera was worth every penny.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not worth the money.
I would not suggest you spend $$$ on this camera. I purchased it hoping to capture some of the most important events in my daughers life and I was extremely disappointed. It has now stopped working altogether without any warning. I thought for the money I was going to have this camera for longer than 3 years. Most of the pictures I took with this camera were left at the processing counter. I would say if you like to gamble then make the purchase. I have recently purchased an Olympus for half the price and the pictures are 10x better. I hope my review helps. Good luck with your camera hunt.

5-0 out of 5 stars The best camara I've ever had.
My step mom bought me a camera for a high school graduation. I dropped it and it broke (3yrs later). I was so heart broken because I loved it and it took really great pictures. I then purchased this camara thru a catalog in 1996. 6 yrs and thousands of pictures later, I would not trade my camara for the world. I used to let my father borrow it a lot until he got to the point he didn't want to return it. I love the timer on it the most. Being able to get in the picture. People can not believe the pictures I have taken and if the one I have ever konks out, I will definately buy another one. And by the way, this is a great price, mine was listed for $400, although I got it for free :)

4-0 out of 5 stars It was a nice camera...
This was a good camera. My wife bought it for me as a Christmas present our 1st Christmas together. Well, this is our 8th Christmas as husband and wife and the camera just now died. I took some terrible pictures with it when I first got it, until I learned to squeeze the button "just a little" til the lights came on and it focused, and then click the rest of the way. We are now looking at another Samsung and another 8 years of wonderful pictures. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great digital camera to share email pictures!
For my first digital camera and as a beginner myself, I was pretty satisfied with its features and the quality of the output. The multiple picture mode takes either 4 or 9 pics as a single pic so it's also great for shooting action shots. For its reasonable price, I was also suprised at how many pictures the camera is able to store on a 4 MB memory card...it holds about 22 pics, which is almost equivalent to a single roll of film. The camera also comes with a program where you can transfer your pictures from your camera to your computer. You also have a choice to either take pictures in color or black and white as well as if you want the date imprinted on the pics. Just the program itself with all its different capabilities makes the camera package worth buying. There's also great looking carrying case that comes along with it.

Pictures look great on your computer...I'm not sure how the pictures would turn out if you were to print it, but if you're just planning on using the pictures for web purposes (email, etc.)..this camera is a great buy for a beginner!

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't be fooled by the "cute" camera
I bought this camera for $[money] with a...rebate. I feel even paying half price, I've been jipped. The camera works great...but the flash has never worked. It goes off after the pic is taken. Forget anything inside. Other than that the quality is good, I use it for ebay pics. It has frozen once and I took the battery out and it came back to life. It also deleted pictures from the smart card on more than one occasion. Samsung has terrible support if I haven't deterred you enough.

5-0 out of 5 stars Tylers Review
This is a very nice cameraand i have used it every day since i got it.i take it everywere.im only 13 and i can operate .my lil brother is 7 he can operate it,this is a great camera becasue it is light weight and it has a nice col0r and design.the only bad thing is that the battery drains realy fats.o yeah and on the specifications it says that the camera does not have a self timer but it does.

If you want cheap, look at the JamCams; if you want easy, look at the Sony Mavicas or the "Kodak Easy Share" packages. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars I like this camera
I purchased this camera to create memories of my new born baby. The camera is reasonably priced, easy to use and even easier to download to the computer. It's a great deal for the price.
I would advise anyone buying this camera to buy the memory card at the same time, however, since there is only 8MB of existing memory.

1-0 out of 5 stars Why we got these terrible reviews?
The former reviews are simple terrible. I suppose that they were
'made' by samsung as well?

5-0 out of 5 stars Digimax 101
It's a very nice and very pleasant to use. I use my everyday. But I am looking for a USB cable for mine, I lost it somewhere in this house and can't seem to find it. If they would just come up with a way so people can always find that cable, it wouldn't be so bad. Yes I am a blonde. I loose everything. It is a very nice little camera, especailly since I have small hands.

5-0 out of 5 stars Mama mia, I can see ya!

4-0 out of 5 stars Peace Corps volunteer living abroad
I just got this camera about a month ago and I must say that it was a good buy. The pictures are clear and sharp and all the options are wonderful (I spent an entire roll of film experminting with them). I like the size because it's easily concealable, I wouldn't consider myself a tourist but that doesn't mean I don't look like one some times. The only problems I have are that the zoom isn't quite as much as I would like it to be (although sufficient), and that the "panoramic" setting ends up being a regular picture with black bars on the top and bottom. Despite this I am still very happy with it, and for the money you just can't go wrong.

5-0 out of 5 stars This is great buy
I have replaced Olympus Stylus zoom camera I had used for the last five years with this one. I simply love this camera. It's smaller than Olympus with more features and cost less. Awesome buy!

4-0 out of 5 stars TAKES VERY GOOD PICTURES ,BUT A LITTLE SMALL FOR ME
THIS IS A GOOD CAMERA IT'S ONLY TOO SMALL FOR SOMEONE.WHO CAN'T SEE VERY WELL.FOR SOMEONE YOUNGER IN AGE LIKE AROUND 18TO30 YEARS OF AGE.THEY WOULD BE ABLE TO SEE THE PRINT BETTER. ... Read more
