Operating at a rate of less than 60 seconds per scan, the SprintScan captures twice the information of conventional scanners that offer only 2,700 dpi with a 3.2 optical density. The SprintScan 4000 also requires less processing time for each scan. Plus, features for automatic 35mm film and slide loading and advancement maximize your productivity, and photo archiving is automated with the optional APS filmstrip kit.

The PolaColor Insight Pro interface and editing software package offers an assortment of image protection and enhancement tools that complement the SprintScan's high-resolution output. 4-0 out of 5 stars Polaroid Sprintscan 4000 (original model)
Unlike others here, I have generally had a good experience with my Sprintscan 4000. I bought my first one in 1999 when they first appeared on the market ... It was the first 4000 ppi slide/film scanner available and I upgraded from a 2700 ppi Nikon Coolscan. (I also have Sprintscan's half brother - a Microtek Artixscan 4000f - mechanically identical but different case & software).

The original PolaColor Insight software was buggy, but later versions improved. The current version (v. 5.5.1) and firmware upgrade (free downloads) work fine. The scan resolution and sharpness are quite good - I've made prints up to 16x24 that look fantastic. If you plan to spend $800 or more then buy a Nikon or Minolta with Digital Ice, but if you can pick up a Sprintscan 4000 for $300 and can live without the "Ice" then go for it! Forget the Silverfast - it's not that great. The Microtex scanner works well too but the software is not as good as Polaroid's and they are not cross-compatible. Look into Vuescan (Hamrick.com)- It'll drive both scanners and produces better scans from negatives than either native software.

1-0 out of 5 stars Complete piece of junk.
This is a poorly made scanner. It produces poor images, the software is very cumbersome, it is extremely slow, and worst of all is that it does not work half the time. Actually mine is going back to Polaroid tommorrow because the unit keeps trying to spit out the slide tray.

Don't waste your money.

4-0 out of 5 stars hardware good; software -- needs improvement
I bought this about 2 years ago for quite a princely sum and have had a pretty good time using it. The resolution is satisfactory, but the main problems are:

- very grainy image at the pixel level; adjacent pixels are often jarringly different from each other in color; averaging them over an area produces the correct result, but with loss of detail(especially with people's eyes). Since I like to make large size poster prints, this is a problem for me. Shouldn't affect anyone working with 11" x 17" or less.

- Software that removes blemishes from the image softens it too much. I've just given up on this "feature" and instead use the Photoshop rubberstamp tool to get rid of blemishes and scratches in the negative.

2-0 out of 5 stars Solid but dated
This scanner is a sturdy piece of engineering that reminds me of the original IBM PC's of the early 80's: heavy, a bit over-engineered, but somewhat dated in its approach. Everything you need is included, even a SCSI card and cable for PC owners (it uses the ancient Centronics-style connector) and a Euro-style power cable as well as the US version.

The software definitely needs work. For Windows 2000, it requires you to install ASPI drivers even though Win2k has its own improved SCSI interface, which all software claiming to be Win2k compatible should use.

I wish I could talk about how the scanner has worked for me, but it hasn't. Instead, after I installed the ASPI software on my Win2k system, the system wouldn't boot. It appears that the ASPI install procedure trashed a critical system directory in my Win2k installation directory. In fact, even the emergency repair procedure failed, and I had to reinstall Win2k and all my software.

I'm going to return this unit, and I'll buy one of the new Nikon scanners that should be available soon. When a hardware product sells for $1300+, you shouldn't have to use dated, incompatible, and potentially dangerous software to control it. ... Read more

Amazon.com Product Description

Polaroid's PDC 2300Z digital camera is a great entry-level 2-megapixel digital camera. To get closer to the action, the camera features a 2.3x optical (2x digital) zoom lens. The 2.3-megapixel CCD produces images at a resolution of 1792 x 1208, which is more than adequate for prints up to 8 x 10. The built-in flash features red-eye reduction, fill, auto, and off modes, providing a flash mode for virtually every situation. Images are stored on the included 8 MB CompactFlash card, although those interested in taking lots of high-resolution images at low compression ratios should consider investing in a higher capacity memory card. Images can be transferred to a computer via the included USB or serial cables. Polaroid says the PDC 2300Z is 'video-capable', meaning you can view photos on a television, or, for the more enterprising, record slideshows onto a blank videotape with a VCR. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Polaroid 2300Z Digital Camera is just right for me
I bought this camera as an upgrade to the Polaroid 1100 (my entry into the digital camera world.) The 1100 was just fine, but it didn't have an optical zoom, and I also wanted a bigger memory card. The 2300 has an optical as well as a digital zoom, and an 8MB memory card, which is plenty for me. It's a little more complicated than the 1100, but once you've got it down, everything becomes second nature. The pictures look great, but if by some chance they need a little tweaking, the Photomax Pro software that comes with it can take care of any little imperfections. It's very important to always remove the batteries when not in use, as these cameras soak them up fast. I also recommend Energizer Lithium AA batteries for longer life. And always use the AC power to upload. Another recommendation: To enhance your photos, it can't hurt to have a couple other software programs to do the job. I can still use the Photomax 3.0 that came with the 1100 (although you can't upload pictures to it directly from the 2300, but you can retrieve your photos from it). I also have Adobe Photo Deluxe, which came with my computer. It seems if one can't do what I want, I just go to one of the other programs. Another fun thing--I can connect to Polaroiddigital.com from the program and set up albums on their website for others to see and perhaps make prints of. Can't think of any downside right now, so I'll sign off. Hope this was helpful.

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome Pictures and the best value in Class!
The 2300z is the top of Polaroid line of digital cameras. It is designed and built by Pretec digital, a very reputable company. The camera takes some of the clearest and best pictures I have ever seen. And it is very easy to use, especially when compared to my old Sony digital camera.
[....]
The only things I have to say negative about the camera is A) 8 mb is not a lot, so you'll need a new CFlash card [...] B) You'll need to buy NiMH batteries to extend the battery life (which is quite long due to an econmic design and an auto shut off) and [...] C)The camera is a bit heftier than others, in size and weight, but weight is related to a good build, a heavy camera is that much better.

This camera is awesome, and the value is by far the best of any price or quality class, it's really unbelievable! So if your looking for a good, solid, family digital camera on a budget, look no further than the 2300z!

3-0 out of 5 stars Good...Kinda
THis camera worked for about 2 months. After that time it started not working properly. I couldn't use the LCD and the Optical Zoom didn't work. But I left it sit for about 2 months and it worked...wat a phenominom. I thought the image quality was good for 2.3MP. I found the software confusing though. I hated also how it sucked up batterys and it used 4 batterys. Also it was pretty heavy. But overall it was a decent camera but had some flaws.

5-0 out of 5 stars Easy to use - great quality Digital Camera
This camera is so easy to use. I have not cracked the user's guide. The quality of the photos is more than good. The software that comes with the camera makes transfering photos to your PC simple.

You can't hurt yourself taking pictures with this Camera. Simple yet powerful!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Value
This will be my second Digital Camera in over 4 years and I think it is a great value. The opportunity to switch from several different pixel levels is great for just about all ocassions. The resolution on the best setting is phenomenal. I haver used it at work and at home. The uploading from camera to PC is quick and easy. Erasing unwanted pictures is also easy to do. You can view the pictures on the LCD screen on the camera, on the PC, or on the Television set. I owned a Canon Previously and it was not as easy to use the resolution was not as good quality as the Polaroid PDC2300Z and I paid double the price for that camera. Also, one more thing to add.... The batteries seem to last a long time. You do not have to use the LCD screen to take pictures you can use the traditional camera view finder. That saves a tone of $$$$ on batteries. If I could rate this camera 10 stars I would! ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

Polaroid's i-zone pocket cameras produce tiny, high-quality Polaroid pictures about the size of a frame of 35mm film (or your average postage stamp). The i-zones use either sticky or nonsticky instant film, so you can put your pictures in a frame or stick them onto your notebook or portable CD/MP3 player. While the cameras all have the same funky oblong plastic design, they are available in a variety of interesting color schemes. The camera turns itself off automatically after each shot to conserve battery power.

Loading the camera is as easy as dropping the film cartridge into the back of the camera and closing it back up. The trickiest part is remembering to pull the film tab out in one fluid motion, without stopping--exactly like most other Polaroids. When you expose a shot and pull out the film, you get something that looks like a Band-Aid, with an image in the middle and extra paper on both ends. Just clip the extra paper off with a pair of scissors and you have your final product. Be careful not to cut into the actual photo, as you don't want to give the caustic paste inside a chance to seep out and get on your fingers.

There are three exposure settings on the i-zone--indoors (with flash), outdoor/sunny, and outdoor/cloudy. Overall, the camera is probably best for subjects within two to eight feet, although we took pictures of downtown buildings that turned out pretty well. The outdoor/sunny setting requires bright sun directly on the subject for a good exposure. Even if it isn't cloudy, try using the outdoor/cloudy setting if the subject is in shadow or if it is early or late in the day when the sunlight isn't at full strength. The flash seems to work best from about four to five feet away.

The best part is figuring out what to do with the mini photos once you've created them. The options seem to be limitless, from decorating cell phones to using them as key chains, putting them in mini frames, or making refrigerator magnets. These cameras are affordable, simple to use, and a lot of fun.--Walt Opie ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Love it...
I bought this camera to take pics of my wedding guests for my guest book....I love it! The film is a little pricey, but that's the cost on instant gratification I suppose. The sticky stuff is nice, not sticky enough to ruin anything, but will stay on a computer monitor, magnet, or in a book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Camera
I just received my camera today, and I already love it. I have taken four pictures, and have tried not to take anymore, because I want my film to last. The pictures turned out remarkably good for such a small camera. Pretty much, this camera is all around adequate, except for a few flaws. The first flaw is that the instruction booklet is very confusing, because it only uses pictures, and there is a release button on the side of the camera, and if anything hits it, it will open up exposing the film. This is hardly a problem; you just have to be careful with it. I recommend this camera to anyone, including people who aren't even interested in photography.

5-0 out of 5 stars Really great camera, but the film is kinda pricy
This is a really durable camera. i've dropped it about a billion times, and it still works as well as ever! The focus isn't all that great, and the pix aren't SUPER high quality, but considering the price... but the pix are absolutely adorable. the size is so cute. i definitely recommend this camera!

4-0 out of 5 stars i-zone
It's ok but i wish the film was cheaper and it had a tiny bit bigger piture.

5-0 out of 5 stars Greatest Instant Camera
This camera is great! Not only is it extremely affordable but it takes instant pictures. It's small enough to fit in your pocket and the smaller sized pictures are great for small picture frames. Also you have the option of buying regular i-zone film or sticky i-zone film which the kids just love! The film is also cheaper priced than other polaroid type cameras, and when you consider the cost of developing film its even more reasonibly priced than regular film. I definately recommend it for children, teenagers, or someone looking for an extra, more playful, camera ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars All the drawbacks of the Ceiva frame, and no memory slot
First let me say that I have not seen this product, but my information is based on web research. This product comes out of a joint venture between Polaroid and Ceiva. Therefore, like with the Ceiva frame, you have to be in the US, and you have to sign up with the Ceiva service, and their monthly fee, and their system.

Unlike the Kodak frame, which also requires you to sign up for internet service, this frame does not have a removable media slot, so you can only transfer stuff via the Web, as far as I can see. This system seems to work if you are prepared to lock yourself into their system, like, if you want to give your parents a way to see new pictures of your children, without their having to deal with a computer. I think that this is the only solution for which this is ideal.

Otherwise, if you want to display your own digital pictures, then to do it the Polaroid/Ceiva way, you have to sign up with their service, and do it via the internet. To do it the Kodak way, you still have to subscribe to their service, but you can use compact flash cards.

Or you can go for the Kensington device, which lets you transfer with USB, or pay out quite a bit more for the Sony device, which uses memory sticks. Right now, I am going to stick with displaying pictures on my iPaq, which is sub-optimal, but the most cost-effective solution for me.

4-0 out of 5 stars Mom Likes It
Seems only people that don't like something write a review. Personally, I like the frame. I KNEW it could only be used with an $8 a month service over the Internet BEFORE I bought it. The service is easy to use and so is the frame. My Mother doesn't have to do anything to get 20 pictures a day sent to her. I have uploaded 200+ photos and 20 new ones randomly appear every morning. They can use any picture I send for what ever they want - I don't care! Hell, maybe I'll become so popular that my face will become a commodity and some one will call me for a $$million$$ contract! (yeah-right) There are several other options one the service, like sending photos on a certain day, locking certain photos so they stay on the frame, etc. My mother lives 1,500 miles from me and has no computer or computer knowledge, so this works very nicely. My brother can also send photos, as can anyone else I am willing to give my password to.

1-0 out of 5 stars They want to sell me my rights?
[Pay money] to be able to send new photos to the frame? Pay Polaroid to assume my rights to the content of my photo album? Please!

1-0 out of 5 stars Only in US
I wanted to purchase a digital frame as a Christmas present. None of these photo frames will work in Canada though. If the Polaroid frame had its own server this could be different for me, but instead the buddied up with Ceiva. Anyone know when these frames will be avalible in Canada?

1-0 out of 5 stars (price), usage rights, and reliance on a dot com?
ok, so let me get this straight... the Cevia web site is a critical component of this frame functioning, even after paying $$$ for it? Without a guarantee that the Cevia site will be alive in 12 months? And every picture I send, Polaroid gets world-wide rights to without asking my permission?

Tell ya what.. you pay me $5K for the frame and ($price)for each picture, and the requirement that you ask me prior to use of an image and I'll *reconsider* this product. The marketing bozo who whipped this one up should practice this phrase.. "would you like paper or plastic?". ... Read more

Each i-zone set comes complete with camera, instant pocket film (six shots), andtwo AA alkaline batteries--everything you need to start making pictures. Werecommend buying extra film right away, especially if the camera is a gift, because those first six shots tend to go pretty fast. 5-0 out of 5 stars Polaroid i-zone
This is one of my cameras that I have that I love. It's cute and easy to use and it fits in your bag come on you know you love it I know I do. It's good for parties or to go to the park for the day.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for parties, outings, and general use
This camera can be a wonderful tool when capturing all kinds of up close photos. The pictures can make outrageous statements than better said in a normal snap shot. Additionally this camera produces instant gratification - and you can give them away as quick as you take them. The sticky feature is nice, although I prefer the non-stick. These make great additives to notes, wallets, computers, anywhere really - my fridge is loaded with them. If you shop around for the film it ends up being about 50 cents a picture. Basically if you're looking for non-traditional pics to spice up your life, this would be the way to go!

And as others have noted, the flash button is a little loose, so act responsibly and you obviously need to get up close to the person you are photographing (or thing) because they are small images. If you want big images or negatives don't buy this product.

4-0 out of 5 stars So Simple To Use............
I am a 12 year old that LOVES to take pictures. This camera is great because all I have to do is snap the picuture and pull out the film. Then, if I want to give the picture to my friend, I just cut off the extra paper and give it to them. It is so simple I even let my 4 year old sister take a picture and then let her take out the film.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very Cool
This camera is light, VERY easy to use, fun, and SO VERY convenient if you don't like waiting for the photo shop to develope your pictures, and great when you like capturing lots of nice moments between friends, family, and pets. It takes awesome pictures inside AND outside. And you can pick your own cool color, and pick your own funky design you want of the paper the picture comes out on. It is SOOOOOOOO easy to use. And the picture developes fast. But......and I hate to use that word, there was one tiny flaw that kind of disappointed me, the fact that the pictures are smaller than what they advertise them to be, they're not super duper tiny, but they are pretty small, so it makes the faces of the people hard to make out if your not RIGHT UP in their face taking the picture. But other than that, the sticky film takes good pic's and is fun to stick everywhere around you. But the film is kinda pricey for only 12 photo's per package, but I personally think its worth it, so I recomend buying one.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Buy
I bought this camera for my neice who is a teenager. She couldnt thank me enough for it. She loved the color of the camera as well. You can also use Polaroid Sticky Film, that you can use to decorate just about anything with. It makes this product even more enjoyable. She has gotten alot of use out of this camera. This is a camera for all ages. I highly recommend it. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars 5 Months and still no product, but my check was cashed !
I am really upset, because I ordered this product in June and still have not received it after 5 months. I also have emailed this person on 3 separate occasions and have yet to receive an explanation of any kind. They certainly cashed my check immediately and left me holding nothing. I am out $40.00 bucks and definitely mad about it.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best of both company's cameras
I bought the Olympus digital for the capability of digital photos and to then have the ability to push a button and have an instant picture develop before my eyes. The 500 film is great, sometimes I wish the printable surface was bigger but. People flock beside me when using the camera and 500 film. Excellent product as I said - the best of 2 camera manufactures!

3-0 out of 5 stars Reviewing film?
Not sure what there is to review about this type of film. If you have a JOYCAM, you need this film. And it works fine. But too bad if it didn't, cause that is the only kind you have to choose from. ;-) ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Join the modern world!
I'm not sorry this product is no longer being produced. It is extremely simple to print out pictures in black and white from a good digital camera. Join the modern world and forget about antiques like black and white film!

5-0 out of 5 stars The Alternate Film for your Polaroid:)
It seems that 99.5% of Polaroid users go with the standard color film. However, many of those users, including myself until last year, didn't know that B&W film even existed.
The B & W film is "faster"--it captures moving images with better clarity. It also captures a wider light range than the color film.
However, in everyday use, the B & W film is great for taking photos that have to be faxed. The details come through and the people on the receiving end don't have to guess what the photo subject was. Doesn't matter if you're in real estate, electronics, news, whatever. The same is true of scanning. B & W takes a LOT less memory and time AND provide a sharper image than the color photos. (There is a long technical reason for this, but just take my word for it....)
The worst part about this film is that....it's difficult to find. Most major retailers don't carry it (Fred Meyer/Kroger Group, Wal-Mart, Best Buy) and many don't know that it exists. Best way to find it is on-line.

5-0 out of 5 stars Please bring back 600 B&W polaroid film!
I searched high and low for this film to no avail, so decided to call customer service to inquire how I can obtain this hard to find film. They informed me that they've stopped making it! It's such a shame because Polaroids shot in black and white are so much more distinctive than color. Please write to them and ask them to manufacture it again!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Instant Art
Black and white imagery is something unique to photography; it enables the artist to view the subject strictly in terms of light and texture, without the complications (and perhaps distractions) of color. But black and white film processing is harder and harder to find, and good custom B&W lab work is expensive, whether you do it or someone else does.

Enter Polaroid with their B&W Spectra film. This was quite a surpise when it was released- and a welcome one, at that. While Polaroid has been making B&W films continuously since the very beginning, they have seldom made them in recent years for their consumer line cameras. This film corrects that error.

If you're interested in exploring black and white photography, this is a great way to do it. The film has marveously rich blacks, brilliant whites and a tremendous tonal range. The prints have the luminence of a custom B&W print on heavy coated paper. It's the perfect way to explore the possibilities of B&W without the investment or the lab work.

5-0 out of 5 stars Black & White is great for instant art!
I have found that nothing is quite like a black & white image when it comes to capturing still life shots. I have used Polaroid film for a number of shots before. Polaroid is great for getting an instant image and to quickly know you got the shot. I was pleased to find out that they now have a black & white version of their film! I found the image to be crisp and clear, with good definition. The pictures really pop! I would recommend it to anyone with an artistic eye who uses instant cameras. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Awsome Picture output and fast...
I got this ColorShot USB printer, basicly at a try and dump basis, it was [inexpensive], and I said, what a heck. So I bought this printer. It came with one pack of Spectrum Platinum film, with 10 prints. The installation was a easy and when I try to print an 800x600 24bit color image. The picture output was dot-free and fast. Only took my system (Piii 933MHz) 30 sec to print out. Sure, the image was resize to the polaroid film size (450x350 or so) but there is no visible dot or jagged edge.

The only thing bad about this printer is the film,..[other places].., you can get a 2 Pack (10 each) polairoid film..., that make it about $1 per print. The actual is so good, even my friends can't tell it apart from a regular polaroid camera picture...this is a great way to print out great picture... fast! ... Read more
