Amazon.com Product Description The PolaColor Insight Pro interface and editing software package offers an assortment of image protection and enhancement tools that complement the SprintScan's high-resolution output. Surface flaws and visible imperfections are automatically rectified, and IQA color correction is handsfree and instantaneous. CCD calibration provides automatic uniformity, and dark-field subtraction and professional image control are a breeze. Images can be saved on a PC in either TIFF or BMP format, or in TIFF, JPEG, or PSD format on a Macintosh. Also included with the SprintScan is LaserSoft SilverFast Ai, the award-winning Photoshop plug-in for scanning and color reproduction optimization. SilverFast Ai's simple and intuitive user interface provides exceptional color-handling capabilities and outstanding scan control, bringing the power of advanced digital scanning to both the novice and experienced professional. --Silas Brazil Features Reviews (4)
The original PolaColor Insight software was buggy, but later versions improved. The current version (v. 5.5.1) and firmware upgrade (free downloads) work fine. The scan resolution and sharpness are quite good - I've made prints up to 16x24 that look fantastic. If you plan to spend $800 or more then buy a Nikon or Minolta with Digital Ice, but if you can pick up a Sprintscan 4000 for $300 and can live without the "Ice" then go for it! Forget the Silverfast - it's not that great. The Microtex scanner works well too but the software is not as good as Polaroid's and they are not cross-compatible. Look into Vuescan (Hamrick.com)- It'll drive both scanners and produces better scans from negatives than either native software.
Don't waste your money.
- very grainy image at the pixel level; adjacent pixels are often jarringly different from each other in color; averaging them over an area produces the correct result, but with loss of detail(especially with people's eyes). Since I like to make large size poster prints, this is a problem for me. Shouldn't affect anyone working with 11" x 17" or less. - Software that removes blemishes from the image softens it too much. I've just given up on this "feature" and instead use the Photoshop rubberstamp tool to get rid of blemishes and scratches in the negative.
The software definitely needs work. For Windows 2000, it requires you to install ASPI drivers even though Win2k has its own improved SCSI interface, which all software claiming to be Win2k compatible should use. I wish I could talk about how the scanner has worked for me, but it hasn't. Instead, after I installed the ASPI software on my Win2k system, the system wouldn't boot. It appears that the ASPI install procedure trashed a critical system directory in my Win2k installation directory. In fact, even the emergency repair procedure failed, and I had to reinstall Win2k and all my software. I'm going to return this unit, and I'll buy one of the new Nikon scanners that should be available soon. When a hardware product sells for $1300+, you shouldn't have to use dated, incompatible, and potentially dangerous software to control it. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review Loading the camera is as easy as dropping the film cartridge into the back of the camera and closing it back up. The trickiest part is remembering to pull the film tab out in one fluid motion, without stopping--exactly like most other Polaroids. When you expose a shot and pull out the film, you get something that looks like a Band-Aid, with an image in the middle and extra paper on both ends. Just clip the extra paper off with a pair of scissors and you have your final product. Be careful not to cut into the actual photo, as you don't want to give the caustic paste inside a chance to seep out and get on your fingers. There are three exposure settings on the i-zone--indoors (with flash), outdoor/sunny, and outdoor/cloudy. Overall, the camera is probably best for subjects within two to eight feet, although we took pictures of downtown buildings that turned out pretty well. The outdoor/sunny setting requires bright sun directly on the subject for a good exposure. Even if it isn't cloudy, try using the outdoor/cloudy setting if the subject is in shadow or if it is early or late in the day when the sunlight isn't at full strength. The flash seems to work best from about four to five feet away. The best part is figuring out what to do with the mini photos once you've created them. The options seem to be limitless, from decorating cell phones to using them as key chains, putting them in mini frames, or making refrigerator magnets. These cameras are affordable, simple to use, and a lot of fun.--Walt Opie Features Reviews (5)

Unlike the Kodak frame, which also requires you to sign up for internet service, this frame does not have a removable media slot, so you can only transfer stuff via the Web, as far as I can see. This system seems to work if you are prepared to lock yourself into their system, like, if you want to give your parents a way to see new pictures of your children, without their having to deal with a computer. I think that this is the only solution for which this is ideal. Otherwise, if you want to display your own digital pictures, then to do it the Polaroid/Ceiva way, you have to sign up with their service, and do it via the internet. To do it the Kodak way, you still have to subscribe to their service, but you can use compact flash cards. Or you can go for the Kensington device, which lets you transfer with USB, or pay out quite a bit more for the Sony device, which uses memory sticks. Right now, I am going to stick with displaying pictures on my iPaq, which is sub-optimal, but the most cost-effective solution for me.
Tell ya what.. you pay me $5K for the frame and ($price)for each picture, and the requirement that you ask me prior to use of an image and I'll *reconsider* this product. The marketing bozo who whipped this one up should practice this phrase.. "would you like paper or plastic?". ... Read more

Amazon.com Review Each i-zone set comes complete with camera, instant pocket film (six shots), andtwo AA alkaline batteries--everything you need to start making pictures. Werecommend buying extra film right away, especially if the camera is a gift, because those first six shots tend to go pretty fast. And as others have noted, the flash button is a little loose, so act responsibly and you obviously need to get up close to the person you are photographing (or thing) because they are small images. If you want big images or negatives don't buy this product.

Enter Polaroid with their B&W Spectra film. This was quite a surpise when it was released- and a welcome one, at that. While Polaroid has been making B&W films continuously since the very beginning, they have seldom made them in recent years for their consumer line cameras. This film corrects that error. If you're interested in exploring black and white photography, this is a great way to do it. The film has marveously rich blacks, brilliant whites and a tremendous tonal range. The prints have the luminence of a custom B&W print on heavy coated paper. It's the perfect way to explore the possibilities of B&W without the investment or the lab work.

The only thing bad about this printer is the film,..[other places].., you can get a 2 Pack (10 each) polairoid film..., that make it about $1 per print. The actual is so good, even my friends can't tell it apart from a regular polaroid camera picture...this is a great way to print out great picture... fast! ... Read more
