It was with this nostalgia that I purchased this camera and I was delighted. First of all, I love the new compact, sleek design. The camera is still fairly large and heavy. The photo quality is good but not great. No more peeling film or inserting flash bulbs. There are some sophisticated extras on this camera but my favorite is the auto-timer, so now I can take photos of myself. I lent it to a friend who needed to take photos of bridesmaid gowns she was considering to show her sister who was getting married and my friend was hooked. I had to beg for the camera back. Despite the so-so picture quality there's no getting around the "fun" factor of a polaroid. In spite of all the digital technology and sophisticated cameras now available, there is still an itch that only a polaroid can satisfy. I love my polaroid. Get this one.
The timer feature is simple to use, giving off a very helpful insistent beeping as the picture is about to be taken - rather than taking a photo of you telling your family the camera's about to take a picture, it takes a photo of everyone paying attention to the beeping Spectra. If all of this beeping is too much to bear, you can set the camera to a silent mode. I use a variety of Polaroid and Minolta APS cameras for art and family photos. When I need a reliably good picture right away, I reach for the Spectra and am rarely disappointed. Polaroid, by the way, is an extremely responsive company with great technical assistance and customer service. ... Read more

The sound was great, and I really loved how easy and logical the modified joysick-style selector button works. A week later, and after loading over 19GB of data to its hard drive, the thing simply locked-up and would not reboot. Fry's promptly replaced it for another. The second player's screen began to fade beyond readability after 4 days. That window gave me time to remove most of my data, and return the second Juke Jam to the store. This time, I traded it for the Zen Xtra. I have had ABSOLUTELY NO PROBLEMS with the Creative Labs model. The product rep was there in the store. He told me they recently upgraded the firmware, allowing simple drag-and-drop tranfer of data. It not only performs better, but it also has an AWESOME EAX sound enhancement tool. Honestly, it made my very basic car stereo sound like I was listening to my BOSE home theater!!! He mentioned they should be releasing a player with an FM-tuner soon, but I wanted my portable music option sooner. The features of these two items may appear to be similiar; in fact, the Polaroid features look better. But, I have to put my money (nearly $300.00) where the quality is. Creative Labs created a portable music experience! I don't mean to sound like some kind of spokesman for CL, but this thing simply ROCKS!!! Did I mention it's nearly $200.00 cheaper than the IPOD (which by the way, does not play the smaller sized, better quality WMA files). I LOVE the size of the IPOD, but that feature doesn't come close to justifying it's $489.00 price tag. Macintosh has once again, priced themselves out of the market. Sure there are thousands of people that have IPODs, but they could have cornered the entire MP3 portalbe player market. Fortunately, Apple once again let the competition create feature packed players for $100.00's of dollars less. If you want real quality in a player that plays MP3, WMA's, and features an unmatched sound processor, go with the Zen Xtra. If you've got the money, and don't really need as much space as I do, get the IPOD. Otherwise, wait for more of the research and design to shake-out in this industry. There are sure to be some very interesting innovations coming to this Christmas!!! ... Read more

However, it's an INSTANT CAMERA. They're not known for their superior picture clarity and amazing color. If that's what you're looking for, then don't buy this camera. I don't know a lot about cameras. I don't know anything about Polaroid and the technology behind the Polaroid One, but I can tell you that I am 100% pleased with this camera as it fits my needs perfectly. I'm using it to take a photograph every day of my 15 month old son to send to my husband who is doing a year long tour in Iraq. The camera is uncomplicated, relatively compact, and the film loads easily. The picture quality is better than what I remember from my childhood in the 70s, but not much. (Again, I'm not complaining. I expected this. The purpose for stating that is so others will not expect too much.) If you're buying it for a specific purpose and not to be your primary camera, then you'll be 110% satisfied. I am.

The newer One Step Express and Silver Edition models offer the same features, plus an adjustable hand strap in a spiffed-up package; its your call as to whether the strap and added swoop is worth the extra ten bucks. Polaroid's other new-comer, the Spectra 1200FF offers essentially the same features with a wider-angle lens, fold-up body and rectangular format film. Its also nearly twice as ... For practical features in a reliable, bargain-priced package, the One Step Close-up model is the pick of the lot.
If you are short of funds and size matters, this is okay as it is. The thing that disapointed me was that when I tried to take a picture, I had to look through the little hole with my unperfect vision. It's like lokking at a one centimeter squared picture and you want to see the details. Since I don't want to type more, you must read other reviews of the other cameras. It's not my fault if I like to critic products... people even told me to... huh... read books, because i'm 15 and I spend a lot of time buying stuff.
I saw that more expensive cameras usually takes better pictures. The retailer took two pictures with two different cameras and one seemed darker and less vibrant(guess which one is the more expensive one). Finally, I just don't know why, in Canada, films for these cameras are just too expensive. It cost me two dollars every picture! At that price, I rather buy a SRL camera. ... Read more

To say "the film is expenisive" is not a helpful critique of this, or any Polaroid camera. That's just the way it is. Think of the money you spend on 35mm film, and then seperate processing. That's why Polaroid film costs more money. This Spectra takes sharp focused pics at all distances. It's a far cry from the old fixed focus, or manual focus Polaroid cameras. The minimum distance from the object is something like 2 feet, which means it can't focus too close, which is a shame, but Polaroid also makes the Spectra 1200FF which is a fixed wide-angle focus, so it has some macro features. Good camera, very versitile. Forget digital cameras, support Polaroid and keep them alive.

I use an iMac and bought a Lexar 32mb Compact Flash card and enclosed reader. No problems! Additionally, Virtual PC v3 also loads Windows 98 PDC programs and I can download and photo-edit with W-98 software also. Friends with higher-end cameras are amazed. I have absolutely NO complaints at all, and am totally satisfied. (Sounds as tho I work for Polaroid, but I'm retired from a different field). Just a GREAT product and I'm puzzled as to why the camera hasn't received more media acclaim/notice.
Oh, and the rebate that was offered at the time of sale was a scam. Lots of bouncing between Amazon and Polaroid before determining that the rebate was offered by the Polaroid distributer, whos non-toll-free number hangs up after five minutes on hold. All in all, the aggravation wasn't worth the difference in price.
Keep in mind that the above purchases can be used in many other electronic hardware, so the purchase was not only isolated for the use with the digital camera. Randy ... Read more

And wow, I'm impressed. This package comes with everything you need to get started! Even an extra adapter and film so you can print right out of the box. The setup is easy and the instructions are made so you can stick it on the printer if you forget. What's great is that the printer accepts BOTH CF and SM cards. Now you can give photos away to people and they will be surprised at how you printed them so fast and because the picture source is from a digital camera you can select what photos you wanted printed and how many times. The quality of the photos are superb just like those instant Polaroids everyone used to have, this prints a smaller rectangular verison with the photo about the size of a credit card; great wallet prints! The coloring of the film however seems to be a bit more on the magenta side if you dont have long-distance flash. Other than that, the printer itself requires no batteries and has a convenient strap so you can carry it everywhere you go. The printer is shaped nicely you can hold in your hand and the weight is light enough to carry with your digital camera. I would definitely recommend getting this product! You can't find a better deal with the rebate offer!
Output quality is pretty good, considering that it's instant film. The image size is pretty small, but it does create some unique "hard" artefacts of digital images. I think this printer would have been a questionable investment at its original price; however, with the discount, I suspect the folks at Polaroid are going to get their money back (and then some) on the film! The five stars are given specifically for the discounted price. This printer is a "must have" gadget at that price!
I bought mine in the hope it'd work with my P800 cell phones infrared, it didn't. Works fine with my nikon coolpix though. The manual in mine says shoulderstrap included, however on the box it says it isn't,and it wasn't, not really a big deal though. Haven't had a chance to see how easy it is to pickup film yet, but given its compatible with the joycam it should be reasonable easy. The interface is ok, its a little terse but once you see where they were going its perfectly acceptable. Prints come out fast, take a little while to appear.
Please let me know.

Since I had my fun with it, and it's so easy to use,I am going to give it to my 5 year old son to introduce him to photography. He already took some great pictures and enjoys seeing the pictures pop up on the computer. He can take as many as he wants becuase I don't have to pay for film and processing.
Taking pictures is a snap, the instructions are very easy to follow, the pictures are so-so, best to take pics during daylight. It's a good entry into digi-cam if you're not familiar with uploading pics to the computer.
I bought it for my website. I write stupid and sometimes not so stupid articles about random things, and I thought it was about time I had a functional digital camera to help flesh them out. I've had this thing for about two weeks now, and I've come to this conclusion: really good/not-so-bad pictures are only available under bright daylight, while any other condition usually produces very average/poor-looking photographs. Indoors is mostly a no-no, unless you have a lot of light (opening some windows does help). The photographs from normally-lit indoor settings create an ugly grainy effect. Also, even if the camera is completely still and so is your subject, it ocassionally looks like you've been moving the camera while the shutter was open -- making the pictures unnecessarily blurry. In fact, I haven't had much luck with the quality of the focus -- almost all of my results look a tad blurry. The software DOES work with Windows XP, you just have to go to Polaroid's official site and read a tutorial on how to get it to a functional state. If you have Photoshop, the "special effects" that can be used on your photographs are entirely useless. Even if you don't, you probably won't be using them all that often (one finds only so much excitement out of making a picture look incredibly distorted). Then there's a problem with even well-lit daylight pictures -- at it's normal resolution (640x480), it can sometimes look like a painting. Instead of nice detailed surroundings, you may have little blobs of color everywhere. Reducing the size helps matters, but it's unforunate that I have to do that anyway. The size 640x480 isn't asking for a lot, now is it? The packaging itself is less than stellar, too. The camera is made out of thin plastic that sometimes feels like it's going to break. The uploading speed is fast, if you have a USB connection. And it's a great camera for starters, especially younger kids who sometimes could care a less about how great or how not great their pictures look. It IS a digital camera, it DOES make pictures appear onto your computer. So they'll have some enjoyment with it at least. But I myself am frankly disappointed. What else could I expect from a camera this cheap? I'm looking forward to another digital camera purchase soon. Compared to the more reliable expensive cameras, this is just a piece of junk.

This has enough memory to store up to 15 pictures in high quality and 50 pictures in low quality. The small, but good, LCD screen is very helpful, especially if you want the PERFECT family picture... You can delete a picture you take in the press of TWO buttons... You can also view the pictures that you take right after you take them, or an hour after you take them. It's easy to uplink the pictures from your amera to the computer, if you have a serial port open. When I got my camera, we only had one serial port and the mouse was plugged into it. I tried using the camera's program without the mouse, but it cannot be done. You need a mouse to do it. I had to install a PS2 port into my computer and switch my mouse so it was PS2 compatible. This is the reason I only gave it FOUR stars. This is a very good quality camera for the person who wants one with a screen, enough memory, and doesn't want to buy expensive memory cards. The software that comes with this is incredible. You can draw on your pistures, make them brighter or darker, take off red-eye, and you can even put someone's head in a different body!! I HIGHLY recommend this camera to those who are just starting out in the digital camera bussiness. I hope to upgrade my camera to a Sony Mavica one day....!! I hope you know a little bit more about this camera now. (...)
After a few days the lcd screen went blue/black and I exchanged the camera for another of the same exact type. I was let down by the rapid problems since I had barely even used it and took great care of it. The second camera, in time, had fading and blurring on the lcd screen as well as other malfunctions such as temporarily blue/blackness. I also found myself refilling the camera with top grade batteries at least once a week. The transferring of pictures from the camera to a PC is a slow process and can get annoying. I don't know if the kit has been changed, but mine only allows to load one picture at a time. With a full camera, going back and forth between choosing the image source, where you wish them to be stored, waiting for the images to load, and then choosing which picture to download isn't my idea of ease. The photo quality is absolutely horrible, it is often very grainy or extremely blurred. I find myself spending a lot of time editing my photographs, trying to sharpen the pictures. I most often find even after all the tweaking they are of lower end quality. There is nothing quite like the heart sinking feeling you receive when you snap some images dear to you and upload them to find out they barely are viewable. After loosing out due to the poor quality I know not to depend on this camera for any special event (such as my daughters third birthday, where I learned my lesson). I also have great difficulty in taking any pictures with this camera in the past 8 months regarding lighting issues. It has become useless for me to even bother using this camera indoors unless the flash is on and the desired shot is in complete and total darkness. Sometimes in that circumstance I can get one faint image. I use this outdoors in bright sunlight, it is now the only way I can get an image from this camera and even those are still blurred and grainy beyond anything I ever saw before. Even at the price it is now being offered at, I still do not recommend this camera. I wish I had chosen something else. To me this item has been a nuisance rather than a convenience. I never had such a bad experience with Polaroid before and do believe in the quality of their products, just not this one. ... Read more

Also, there is not any other adjustments or options to improve the quality of the pictures. I'm using the Polaroid Spectra Film two pack instant film which was all that was available at Dean's Camera Shop in Omaha. Is there another type of film I should use that would provide better pictures and where in Omaha can it be purchased. Is there any adjustment besides indoor-outdoor range?? Val Drumm
The thing with this camera is that it compliments itself - where there's a good point for every bad point. For example, the size of it..it's really quite heavy and large, and when the top is extended, it's a pretty big piece of equipment to be playing with. Yet..the design is really cool..no matter what the size! it's a funky silver, with the cool lens and sleek edging..there's no reason why you wouldn't want to have one! Often, in bright bright daylight, the photos can become very white ie: too much light for the camera. This sometimes makes the photos a little blurry, and obviously the subject matter non defined. But at the same time..in the right light you have wicked intense colour. It I find is also quite difficult at times to judge the 2 different settings; 0.6m-1.2m or 1.2m-6m. Often when you think you are in one zone and you set the camera to that...it may still often be a little blurry, as you may be just in or out of the range. But the benefits here are that of simply having a polaroid camera..instant, instense coloured, extreme fun fotos. So overall she aint bad..and I'd definently reccomend her to anyone - simply for the fun that I have found the polaroid to be..you can relive an excellent moment 2 minutes later.
As always, the camera was extremely easy to use, and the close up lens work great. The wide angle lens is a DEFINITE PLUS! In comparing an old Polaroid Captiva and a friends JoyCam, I was able to get an additional 20-30% more image using the 1200FF. While the pop up design is extremly easy to manipulate, the overall size was quite surprising. This is definitely not a camera that you can slide into your camera bag or purse as an after thought. The surprisingly large size is about the same as 3 DVD cases stacked on top of each other. SouthPaw's, nothing new here, you are still out of luck with this one. Pretty much everything on this camera is designed for right handed use, from the pop-up mechanism, the shutter release, and even the film cover release. While it is advertised for both indoor and Outdoor photos, Outdoor photos, have a tendency to be a bit washedout, especially in low contrast situations (brightly lit objects, wide open spaces, light colored buildings, etc). It would have been nice if Polaroid would have added a contrast adjustment switch, like they did on the Captiva. In contrast, the 1200FF fill-in flash works great for indoor photos. As with all Polaroids keep a watch over the film, extreme temperatures will greatly effect the image quality (don't leave it baking in your car), and with the pitures costing almost a buck a pop, it can turn out to be a costly mistake. While definitely not a replacement for a standard 35mm, its overall picture quality, wide angle lens and obvious instant gratification factor, make this a great tag along camera for any family trip, or party. ... Amazon.com Review Each i-zone set comes with a camera and two AA alkaline batteries. Film is sold separately. Loading the camera is aseasy as dropping the film cartridge into the back of the camera and closing itback up. The trickiest part is remembering to pull the film tab out in one fluidmotion, without stopping--exactly like most other Polaroids. When you expose ashot and pull out the film, you get something that looks like a Band-Aid, withan image in the middle and extra paper on both ends. Just clip the extra paperoff with a pair of scissors and you have your final product. Be careful not tocut into the actual photo as you don't want to give the caustic paste inside achance to seep out and get on your fingers. There are three exposure settings on the i-zone--indoors (with flash),outdoor/sunny, and outdoor/cloudy. Overall, the camera is probably best forsubjects within 2 to 8 feet, although we took pictures of downtown buildingsthat turned out pretty well. The outdoor/sunny setting requires bright sundirectly on the subject for a good exposure. Even if it isn't cloudy, try usingthe outdoor/cloudy setting if the subject is in shadow or if it is early or latein the day when the sunlight isn't at full strength. The flash seems to workbest from about 4 to 5 feet away. The best part is figuring out what to do with the miniphotos once you've createdthem. The options seem to be limitless, from decorating cell phones to puttingthem in miniframes to creating photo albums. These cameras are affordable, simple to use, and a lot of fun. --Walt Opie Features Reviews (59)
This is a great camera to throw in your backpack and have handy at a moment's notice.
I've been a fan of it since it was invented, and I still am, even though I own digital cameras five hundred times more expensive. Casual photos are all about what you can do with them. The i-zone doesn't just produce pictures, it produces toys. Give them to people. Stick them on things. Take one of these to the pub and you'll get people queuing up to have their picture taken. Send them on postcards - many times cheaper and more convenient than a pocket-sized printer and glue. Basically this camera is perfect for grown-ups with lives, as well as teenagers. And it's not exactly expensive either. If you like taking spontaneous photos, this is the device for you. No other camera has brought me as much enjoyment. ... Read more

Digital cameras & images are great. You can almost take as many as pictures you want and would not be afraid of wasting your films. As the instant film is more expensive, you may not take pic that "freely" but what's on the pic will be what you treasure and you would like to keep. The size, shape, & texture of the instant film can give you something different & a little "nostagia" flavor. There was black & white film for this model, unfortunately, they are no longer manufactured. So, only color films are available for its use. That's a little disappointing, but I think this camera is still fun to have. :) ... Read more
