5-0 out of 5 stars Outstanding wide angle zoom!
This lens is widely held to be one of the best if not the best wide angle professional zoom lens for 35mm and Digital SLRs compatible with Nikon's lens system. I've had mine for about 6 months on a Nikon D-100 and have absolutely nothing I don't like about it. It's sharp from corner to corner at all zoom settings and any pincusion destortion is negligible even at 17mm @ f2.8. The AFS focusing motor is lightning fast and accurate. Filter size is 77mm, same as my Nikkor 70-200mm f/2.8G ED-IF AF-S VR lens. Since filters this size aren't cheap, it's nice to be able to share. This lens will support 35mm, APS, and DX format film and digital sensor sizes and comes with a 5-year warranty. If you want the best, and can afford it, you won't be sorry you purchased this lens.

5-0 out of 5 stars The best wide-angle Nikkor zoom for compatible film cameras
Of the auto-focus Nikkor lenses, I've owned the 20/2.8D, 24/2.8D, and 35-70/2.8D. My current lenses are the AFS28-70/2.8D, AF80-200/2.8D (2-ring version), and the AFS17-35/2.8D.

The AFS17-35/2.8D is the sharpest lens of all the manual and auto-focus Nikkor lenses I have owned/used. Since purchasing this lens almost 3 years ago, it has become the standard lens on my Nikon F5.

I travel with the AFS17-35/2.8D and (in my opinion) it's natural companion the AF80-200/2.8D. Both zoom lenses are ranked number 1 and 2 in sharpness respectively. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Entry Level SLR
I have had the N60 for about 4 months and I have taken at least 30 rolls of film with it. All of the pictures have come out great. When compared to my dads Minolta 530si, this camera is better in almost every way. Although it is a little heavy compared to the other entry level SLR's I prefer it to a lighter camera that has much less of a quality feel to it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Nikon
The best thing about Nikon is not the body itself. Aside from the N60 being a more than adequate entry-level body with all the features that an amateur needs, AF Nikkor lenses are unsurpassed in quality. In general, Nikons take better pictures. If you want a lot of "features", go with something else. If you want great photos, go with Nikon. One more thing: I have upgraded bodies twice since I started doing photography 15 years ago. All of my old lenses still fit my current camera. See if you get that from another manufacturer.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Entry To World of Nikkor Lens
Nikon was recommended to me by a knowlegable coworker. I was very impressed when he told me that Nikon manufactures their own glass. He initially recommended the N80, but all I could afford at the time was the N60. It seemed like a good entry level camera for someone new to 35mm SLR photography. I bought it from Amazon in the spring of 2000. I also found the Magic Lantern Guide to the Nikon N60/F60 Camera at B&H Photo Video in New York. It was much better than the manual that came with the camera. I highly recommend the Magic Lantern Guide to Nikon Lens as well, as you are probably going to get more than one lens before you are through! I wound up getting a wide-angle 28mm f2.8, a fast 50mm f1.4, and a classic 80-200mm f2.8 zoom lens.

Anyway, the N60/F60 has been a great introduction to the world of serious photography. It doesn't have the cable release opening, debth of field preview button, multiple exposure capability, or manual DX ISO setting of the N80 but since I didn't even know what half of those things were at first I didn't miss them!

In fact, the N60/F60 has some things the upgraded N65/F65 doesn't- like a 1/125 maximum flash sync versus the N65/F65 at only 1/90, and an Exposure Lock button. In fact, both the F65/N65 and N80/F80 only have an onboard flash with a guide number of 40, vs 49 for the N60/F60!

The N60 also feels hefty but not heavy- it's sturdy and well-built but easy to hold and use. I will always be glad I that I had the pleasure of owning this camera.

5-0 out of 5 stars I love this camera
I've been using this camera for several years and I've been very pleased with the results. It is a great value and a fantastic blend of features and convenience. I'd highly recommend this model as a first SLR for someone interested in more serious photography. Plus with Nikon, you know that when you do replace the camera body, you'll still have some of the best lenses on the market.

4-0 out of 5 stars A good value- but understand its limits.
The N60 is one of a number of new budget made-in-China cameras bearing the Nikon label. On the plus side, they're a great entry into the Nikon system, and they're backed by the Nikon organizations,m with worldwide service available. On the minus side, these are not built to the same level as the classic Nikon SLRs. They're plastic, they lack the ruggedness of real Nikons, and they won't be around in 10 or 20 years. And the lenses they come with, while they use the Nikon mount system, aren't of the optical or mechanical quality of Nikkor lenses.

But if you're not a heavy user, this is a good way to get access to the Nikon system, and to the hundreds of used Nikon lenses out there at attractive prices. If you understand the plusses and minuses, the N60 can be a good deal. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Pricey, sexy-looking, & could be sharper for it's price
Having gotten frustrated with the limiting 35mm focal length of the Nikkor AFD35-70/2.8, I sold it and purchased the AFS28-70/2.8D almost 5 years ago.

It was an improvement over the AFD35-70/2.8 with respect to sharpness, contrast, and whisper-quiet autofocusing speed.

With the scalloped lens hood, this is a bulky lens. Infants tend to cry with this "in-their-face" monster.

Contrast is excellent, and distortion is negligible. Composition-wise, a very good portrait lens.

Of the three sharpest lenses owned, overall, it falls a distant third behind the leading Nikkor AFS17-35/2.8D, and second place AFD80-200/2.8 (2-ring version).

This lens used to be the standard lens on my Nikon F5, until I purchased the AFS17-35/2.8.

If the AFS28-70/2.8 were image-sharper for it's price, it would be used more frequently. I will be selling it before Nikon replaces it. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars BUY THESE!
I was absolutely astounded with the amazing clarity of these binocs. Tremendous zoom range, small enough to pack anywhere, and again, tremendous, stunning clarity. Buy these!

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent sharp views for sightseeing or other uses.
We bought these binoculars to use for our honeymoon cruise, and we were very pleased. In particular, we love the eyepieces that raise and lower for use with or without glasses (helpful for both eyeglasses and sunglasses users). Secondly, the width of the binoculars adjusts for the space between your eyes, allowing a custom view for each user. Also, the binoculars are small and lightweight, making them perfect for travel. Finally--and most importantly--the binoculars provide a clear, sharp picture that stays relatively stable even at higher magnifications. Highly recommended for the casual user.

5-0 out of 5 stars Just What I Wanted
I got this great pair of Nikon Eagleview 8-24x25 Zoom II Binoculars as a gift from my Mom & Dad for Christmas. I've had several other pairs, but never this compact and powerful. The zoom is VERY smooth and keeps good focus throughout. Nice and lightweight, they did well as 'opera glasses' on my visit to the symphony last week. And I'm getting a better close-up of my favorite birds. The 'field' is not as good as with dedicated wide-view optics, but you can't complain. Just What I Wanted ... Read more
