5-0 out of 5 stars Minox DC-3311
I found this camera enjoyable to use.Digital options include sounds, language for menus, time and date, auto off feature, self timer, lcd on/off, lcd contrast, auto review, resolution, quality iso, white light adjustment, print, delete one photo, delete all, protect photo, video out, and you can even do cropping from the camera.Modes are Viewing mode, Off, Capture mode, High speed mode, and Burst mode. It has features that other digital cameras have forgotten.Like a regular viewfinder, a lens cap, and ISO settings. The camera is well built, has a nice texture to the body, and excellent electronics. You will be pleased with the photos that you produce. The software that accompanies the camera is pretty good, and much better than others I have used.I recommend getting some high quality rechargeable batteries. The camera uses 4 AA.The CF port is one the bottom and the camera can support up to a 320mb card.I have a 256 and at a high resolution it will produce close to 500 shots. The camera has a macro feature for close up shots, a voice memo feature of up to 15 second per frame, and red eye reduction flash. In the box you will find a hand strap, lens cap strap, USB cable, 4 batteries (regular), lens cap, camera, protective case, camera-to-tv cable, quick user guide, and manual in 4 or 5 languages. The camera has 8mb of internal memory, but I highly recommendgetting a Type I CF cartridge as well. The most important feature is the Minox name. You know your getting superior optics and design with careful attention to detail. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Leica's Best Compact Binoculars, But....
I know someone who had one for years and recently traded it for a Zeiss Victory compact 8 X 20 which he finds brighter and much easier to focus. It's a recommendation that I strongly second too, since I've own the same Zeiss Victory model for over a year. Regrettably, the Leica Trinovid 8 x 20 falls a distant second with respect to brightness and ease of use. It also doesn't seem to be nearly as sturdy as its Zeiss competitor (Note: I am a great fan of Leica optics, especially those for its M rangefinder system, which are among the best in the world. But unfortunately, the 8 x 20 Trinovid binocular can not be regarded as one of the firm's finest products.). However, if one wants a reasonably priced Leica binocular for outdoor concerts, sporting events, or hiking, then this is the one to get.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not very rugged
We purchased these binoculars to take along when weight forbade hauling our superb Leica full-sized binoculars, and were quite disappointed with them. Our biggest complaints:
first, they are not waterproof, so they are not really good for humid, rainy, dusty environments, and you have to use caution when cleaning them. Second, despite Leica's reputation, they are very easy to warp out of alignment (we have always been very careful with our equipment, and cannot think when this might have happened). This is a pretty irreversible situation.
Alternatives: I am very tempted by Swarovski or by a waterresistant brand which has a different tube-holding mechanism.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Superb Companion To Leica's Full-Sized Binoculars
I recently purchased Leica's Trinovid 8x20 BC as a companion to the full-sized Trinovid 10x42bn binoculars. The 8x20 BC's superb features (in terms of size, weight, clarity and resolution) make it the perfect choice for a casual day at the beach, zoo, sporting events, theatre, holiday travel, etc. The newly released anodized silver and black leatherized finish make the 8x20 BC a pre-destined classic in its own right.

5-0 out of 5 stars Lightweight super high quality pocket sized binoculars
I bought this to have a lightweight quality alternative to my heavier Leica 10x42's. There is a definitely a tradeoff in ease of use when using something this small. The exit pupil is only 2.5mm and it takes some practice to precisely center the images in your eye. This is even more difficult in low light. The width adjustment is stiff enough that you can reliably leave the binoculars at your correct interpupillary width but this makes them much less compact. While the price may seem high compared to lesser binoculars (about three hundred dollars) it's well worth it. The image quality has to be seen to be believed. I was able to read license plates an quarter of a mile away and read small storefront signs half a mile away that were undetectable with the naked eye. The small size makes it easy to just leave them hanging around your neck most of the time, something you wouldn't think of with two pound full size binoculars. The binoculars are so small that they are completely hidden in your hands when held up to the eye, convenient when you dont want to draw attention to yourself with large binoculars. A few minor negatives: no case of any kind is provided (odd when even a ten dollar pair of Tascos can come with a cheap vinyl case), no front or back lens covers are provided either. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars I always wanted one
SInce I was a kid, I always wanted one of those tiny spy cameras I saw in the movies. Now I have one. I have no idea when or how I'll use this camera, and the small negative guarantees less than stellar picture quality, but who cares. It's neat. The quality is first rate (it is a Minox, after all) and the price was right. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars 35mm Minox???
In short, this is NOT your family's vacation camera. If you want something to throw around, and possibly lose, i'd suggest another camera. This is a seirous camera. With a MINOXAR lens, you can take sharp pictures that can easily be blown up to 11x14 wihtout a lot of grain. If you have money to spend, and you want a camera that will give you excellent prints, I'd recommend this one. It's also very lighta and compact, with a very fast lens. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars back from vacation
The Minox CD-140 date camera is simple to use , the small viewfinder takes some getting use-to. the controls are simple to understand and easy to use. The quality of photos taken on vacation with this camera are excellent, colors are true and images are crisp and clear ( but no better than my 8 year old Nikon LiteTouch AF ). Not sure if it was worth the extra cost when looking at other similar cameras. Have to see how this camera holds up over the next 10 years, hope its better than my pentax...

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome Camera
This is the best Camera I have ever owned. I scrapbook and I am so happy with the Quality and colors of my photo's. Definetly Reccomend.

2-0 out of 5 stars The MINISCULE VIEWFINDER is a TREMENDOUS Problem
Believe me, and believe any other review that criticizes the tiny viewfinder on this camera. It may have top-quality optics and an abundance of admirable features, but you're likely to miss most photo opportunities (especially in twilight and darkness) as you struggle to place the viewfinder over your eye.

Most of the photos we obtained with this Minox captured the moment after a great picture COULD HAVE been taken, and even then were generally off-center. I thought I would become acclimated, but frustration got the better of me and the camera was returned for refund.

1-0 out of 5 stars This camera has flaws
The viewfinder is VERY small. The viewfinder is also located too near to the center of the camera, so I kept bumping my nose into it when I take pictures. Also, the camera failed to rewind the film automatically, so I had to manually take out the roll, which ruined all my pictures, all the precious shots I took. I had to return the camera.

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect point-and-shoot camera!!
The Minox CD 140 is probably in the top 5 of all point-and-shoot cameras with a long zoom.

It's easy for a complete beginner to use, but has light controls for the more advanced photographer (macro, panorama, flash cancel, etc.). There is no manual aperture setting or other controls like this, but do you really want/need that in a point and shoot camera?

I own the date back version of this casera and am very happy with its overall performance. I *really* wanted to get a Leica C1, but am glad I did not - no point. The Leica versions at this end of the point and shoots are overpriced for the same or lower quality as this Minox with its Minoctar lens. Sharp and crisp photos.

Another very important part of this camera that peopel overlook is that it is NOT a step zoom. This means that the zoom does not move in preset settings. E.g., on the Leica C1 you can only zoom to 38, 50, 75, 90, etc. With this Minox you can zoom to ANY distance between 38 and 140.

The camera also ha an excellent "feel" to it. Some point and shoot cameras feel so cheap (plastic doodads) and others are so "slick" that they feel tinny. Not this one. It is made of high quality material and there is a part made of grip rubber that helps you get a great grip on the camera (visible on left side of the camera picture - looks like a black half-moon).

The other features: Active infrared autofocus, Maximum zoom range, Automatic flash, Preflash for red-eye reduction, Quality lens, etc. are all excellent.

There is ONLY one weakness I can think of: Small viewfinder (to look at what you are shooting). This takes a little getting used to, but is simple enough. This is the ONLY drawback.

I also own a higher-end Nikon SLR and Minolta SLR, but this is my back-up point and shoot "fun" camera. I *strongly* recommend this camera. I did a LOT fo research on point and shoots before buying this one. Again, I am very glad I bought this one. You will be too. ... Read more
