Good quality, features, and price
We are very happy with your Konica KD-500Z. The pictures are sharp and we like all the features, especially the ability to film short videos with sound. Our last digital camera download setup was a nightmare of fire wires and software. Setting this one up to download couldn't be easier!

Not bad
For the money, this is a good little 5mp camera. It's so light and small that it will fit easily in the pocket, and the picture quality is better than other 5mp cameras I've tried. It's a bit slow to react, both in taking pictures and in being ready to take another picture - that would be my only criticism.

Great camera
This camera takes GREAT quality photos. The two card slots are very useful. The camera does have a hard time in very dark conditions but not much worse then any other camera. Very easy to use and little so it fits in your pocket...

It's ok, if the conditions are perfect.
I've purchased this to replace the Nikon 885:

pros: small, fast start up, two memory card slots, great portraits shots, 5mp for 400 bucks!

cons: system error, average customer service from Konica, low light (dawn, dusk) conditions there is not enough light, can't handle action shots, movie mode, only 30 sec and can not use zoom when taking a movie, but there is audio while nikon does not.

my ex-nikon 885 can hadle the cons of the Konica, but it is not small, the start-up is too slow.

KD-500Z is a prefect camera if you don't use it for low light and sports.

A GREAT CAMERA FOR THE PRICE

Not reliable at all
I bought this camera with the confidence that a brand like Minolta inspires. It isn't of course one of the sofisticated and expensive Minoltas, but for my amateur purposes, it seemed pretty decent at firstsight.It proved to be a disapointment: the pictures are not very clear,especially the portrait type ones, though I was careful not to shoot themfrom too short a distance, the flesh is too slow. But the surprise waswhen, after only 27 days of using it,my camera's computer system stoppedfunctioning, without having previousely been subject to any shock. I wasstill lucky that my purchase receit was not expired, so I returned it tothe store.Now I'm looking for another camera, but it will definitely notbe a Minolta.

Not what I expected
I had a Cannon Sure-shut point&shoot 35mm camera before. It was a very nice camera for my daily general use. Some of the photos I even enlarged to 14x11" and still looked sharp.

However, this Minolta Sightseer Ibought (from Wal-Mart though) disappointed me in the following ways:

1.Rough resolutions, - it is the worst I've experinced after using many otherpoint-shoot cameras. The lighting conditions have to be perfect to getdecent resolutions. Use of slower speed films did not help either.

2.Slow recharge time, - when you shoot in dark conditions that require flash,the waiting is too long between shuts.Particularly inconvenient if youare taking photos for children...

I would not buy a point&shoot zoom35mm camera anymore, no matter what brand, but I would by a fixed focullens one to carry around. ... Read more

Great Camera Great Price
I purchased this camera about a year ago and have not regretted it yet. It takes wonderfull pictures . I think I have used about 13 rolls of film in it and I am still using the same battery that came with it. I would recomend this camera to anyone wanting an easy to use, yet still afordable camera, that takes nice pictures.

Good for the average user
This is a light weight camera that is easy to carry on hikes and other outings. The picture quality has been good and the controls easy to use. This camera has several draw backs: it will not focus in low light, very bright, or low contrast conditions. It is also impossible to manually focus in these conditions using the LCD screen. I also don't like the red-eye flash being the default. You can change the flash to another mode but when you turn the camera off the next time you turn it on it defaults back to the red-eye flash mode. This is my first digital camera and through this experience I have learned what to look for in my next one.

Not bad but not best
This is a compact camera, handles well, spunky looking, but a few drawbacks. I like natural-light photography and this is the wrong digital camera for that. First, it has trouble focusing and the manual (LCD) focusing is pretty hopeless in dim light - can't see anything on the screen anyway! Second, the sensitivity is not good - certain other digital cameras have ISO/ASA ranges 100-400, but the Minolta's are just 100. I guess if I was just taking pictures of the Grand Canyon in daylight these wouldn't bother me. I'll be more careful of natural light capabilities in my next purchase. If you take many high-resolution pictures without downloading you'll want to invest in at least 1 16 or 32 mb flashcard ($50 or so.)

good camera, could be better
I was looking for a durable and high-quality camera to take some pictures that I could quickly access. For the money I paid, I was a little disappointed in the Minolta Dimage. The quality of the pictures is pretty good, and the 3x zoom lens is nice when you want to get closer (which a lot of other cameras don't have).

Pros: *1.8" LCD display on back (you can see pictures you take!) *lightweight (for the mobile photographer) *usb connectivity (faster photo d/l to your pc)

Cons:

*the camera is expensive for the quality of images it produces.. you can find 3 megapixel cameras around the same price range *the LCD display is kind of small

Great Pictures, but not perfect.
This unit has lots of great features for the price. The red-eye reduction and zoom among them. Both help you take great pictures. The colors are vivid and the picture quality is amazing. The menu options are easy to use. Battery life is average, but this unit comes with 4 rechargeable batteries and a charger for them, a definite plus! One drawback I have noticed is focusing. Sometimes in low light situations, the unit has trouble finding a focal point. You can do a manual focus, but you have to change menu options. I believe this is a great camera for an amature looking to make the next step. Overall a good camera for a very good price.

Perfect for beginners who want to become experts.
I went from a point and shoot camera to this one and I love it! In plain English, I can set the f-stop, set how long the shutter stays open, take two pictures in the same frame, take continuous shots, and exposure bracketing lets me set the meter then it takes three shots: the one I set, 1/2 stop under and 1/2 stop over. Plus, in the five program modes I just press a button to select which mode (macro, night, landscape, etc.) and it automatically knows where to focus for the kind of picture I want. Just about all the features of a full manual camera, yet I just press the P button and it goes right back to full-auto point and shoot mode. With 400 speed film I've taken excellent pictures in almost no light in the night mode.

As far as I can tell it lacks only two features: it doesn't time-date stamp and there is no panoramic mode. Also, the infra-red sensor on the front of the camera is apparently for the auto-focus, not for a remote/remote shutter capability, as I was told when I bought it. A remote shutter release cord is available for this camera... (Minolta part # RC1000L for the 16ft and RC1000S for the 15in.)

I bought my HTsi Plus in a camera shop and paid... more for it, so you can't go wrong getting it here.

An Excellent Camera
I purchased a Minolta HTsi Plus camera in October 2000 and have shot an average of two rolls of film per week with this camera since then. I have nothing but praise for this camera. The HTsi Plus has never failed me in any way. I suggest you buy the body only. Don't spend money on a 28-80 lens that may come in some camera kits; rather put that money into a lens that gives you much more flexibility, like a 28-200 lens. I use Sigma 28-200 and 70-300 auto focus lenses, and I can report nothing but satisfaction, reliability, and ease of use. I had considered purchasing a more expensive SLR camera, but today I am pleased I did not, for this camera is perfect for me, an experienced but amateur photographer. I have had loads of fun with this camera and taken hundreds of wonderful photos. I recommend the Minolta HTsi Plus without hesitation or qualification.

Exposure Problems
I have a mixed review of this camera since i bought it about 8 months ago. Over all the technology for the price you get in this camera is great, with the exception of the Auto Focus (AF). When used in manual, you can get great pictures with this camera, but then you can get good pictures with any camera that works in manual, if you know what your doing. So the real issue is how good the AF works, which is how you end up taking 80% of your shots anyways. The AF on the Minolta HTsi Plus has some problems. One, it is a little slow to focus. I tried the Canon Rebel in the camera shop after I bought this camera and found the AF to be much faster. Two, this camera seems to have some serious exposure problems in AF. It never quite gets the exposure right. For example outside shots look bleached out more often then not, even when you try to light meter off the brightest spot first. Also, the contrast in color seems to always come out weak with this camera. I am not sure how much of this is the camera's fault or lens's fault as film also plays a role here, but pictures defiantly come out color poor. I have used a number of different films with this and they all come out color poor.

Over all the technology in this Camera is good -AF so if you always use manual, this camera is good for that. But if you think you are going to do some percentage of point and shot with this camera, I would look elsewhere. If i had to do it over, I would have spent a little more and got the Canon Rebel.

Minolta HTsi Plus AF Camera
This has been a great camera for 3 years and 2000 pictures. However it recently has been giving me some trouble. It is now at Minolta getting fixed for $130.00. The first thing that happened was the built in flash would not fire anymore. Then a few weeks later the camera would not even power up. This camera has taken alot of great pictures for me I was just a little disapointed it just quit on me. The only cons I would say about the camera is no Date Imprinting,no Depth of field check. There also is no Panoramic mode and the XI 3500 flash I used when, on the camera hotshoe the red eye function would not work. It is a good camera I would just recomend an extended warranty.

excellent camera
This camera for the few weeks and 4 rolls of film outside and inside both gave consistent great results. Indoor pics with flash come out well exposed, sharp and colors are very good at 400 speed fuji film. The lens is sufficient for start easy to handle and autofocus feature is great on it. Different picture modes do work and make difference. At best buy this one comes with a kit that includes a 1a filter which is quite nice also. If you do buy it there get the 4 yr protection plan its well workth it and its only 20 bucks. However i did end up returning it for one reason only - what I tought would be my drive for photography turned out not so so I figure for my purpose 100 bucks point and shoot will do =). This camera is really marvelous, pretty light to lug around and superb performance. The following features are the ones which makes it a great buy for the price

Has focus indicator, locks shutter when still focussing (can happen when using zoom telephoto lenses), has exposure range warnings, shutter speed warnings (if the recommended aperture or shutter speed is outside the range of your lens), the eye-sensor could have been better, but this drawback can be overcome with the exposure preview button, all in all I'm very satisfied with this camera.

Note: don't compare it with professional grade cameras like Nikon F 100... this camera does not have a color database like the pro-grades, so your exposure might be off by 1-2 stops when shooting extremely bright/dark subjects due to 'mid-tone'ing. ... Read more
