2-0 out of 5 stars When you can get it to work, the HP4200cse does a great job.
I have had nothing but problems trying to use this scanner. The software constantly locks up. A message is then displayed stating that the scanner cannot be found. The light stays on. There is a patch on the HP site. It however, did not correct the problem. When and if you can get it to work, it does a fantastic job. Very good resolution and accurate colors. Sometimes you can remove the software and then reload it to get the scanner to work. If you are lucky and it starts you had better do all your scanning as it may not work once you have gone to a different application and try again to use it. I am very disappointed with HP's customer support. If the product is over 90 days old, it costs an arm and leg to talk with anyone. I plan to replace it with an Epson 1200.

3-0 out of 5 stars Operating System Upgrade Problem
My HP Scanjet 4200C was operated successfully for 2 years using Windows 98SE. I upgraded my PC which came with Windows Xp Home edition. Windows XP does not support the HP Scanjet 4200C software. Also, unable to find a WEB site to download HP 4200C drivers compatible with Windows XP. What is my next course of action?

1-0 out of 5 stars HP Quality is dispicable!
I wish I read these before I bought one Amazon last year. It was in very very light use (maybe less than 20 uses!) in less than 10 months and now it's dead.

This is ridiculous. A 90 day warranty on their crappy items and they give one year warranties on their overpriced ones.

I will never buy anything from HP ever again.

I am very disappointed with the quality of their entry-level items.

From a big name like HP (well Compaq) and the millions of dollars their execs are getting....

NO RECOMMENDATION. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!

1-0 out of 5 stars beware!
The scanner was easy to use when you could get the software to operate properly. More often than not it would not bring up the program...and then it died. I would not purchase this product or any other HP scanner again. Although I love my HP printer.

5-0 out of 5 stars Could not be happier...
I love my HP scanner, plain and simple. Not only was it a breeze to install (cause it came with one of those dummy proof fold out diagrams) but also I never have to worry about how to configure it when I need to scan something fast. The 3 buttons on top are even too much, I only use one 90% of the time. And when I press that, it asks me beforehand which program I wanta send the scan to as well as opening it for me automatically after scanning...

But the best part about this scanner was the free Adobe Photo Home Deluxe 3.0 edition it came with... It is sooooo user friendly that you'll be doing things with your scanner more often than you think. I retouch old scratched up photos like a pro, I montage stuff like any tabloid, AND I can even make cards using their wizards step by step tabs...

I have tried other scanners with similiar abilites, but they're no way as direct and easy to use as this one. I forgot to mention that I can take any photo and make it my wallpaper using this program, after tweaking it... And that's another plus... The color this scanner reproduces is even better than the original... well atleast on my monitor... Do yourselves a favor, if you're looking for alot of bells and whistles that you WILL use, get this machine... ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Scan Away
I read some of the reader's comments and, frankly, I'm not sure if they're talking about the same scanner.

The 7400c is large (it does accomodate 11x17 sheets so compact isn't one of it's features), takes a long time to initialize and warm up and still tends to be noisy but the reproductions are brilliant and scanning is a snap.

It sets up in nothing flat and if you can lift the cover and push a button, you can scan. That's it. You can e-mail, import into another program, etc. The software installs effortlessly and it's quite easy to figure out without reading the manual.

HP does not have a 1-800 number for customer support and that should be a mark against them. But, after a long wait, when you do get the staff on line, I've found them on different matters to be nothing short of patient, knowledgable and they always search until they find an answer.

One gripe I do have with the 7400c is: why couldn't they put an On/Off button on it? I can never understand why most HP scanners are designed without this feature. Most of their other products (printers, cameras, computers) have it so why leave it off a scanner?

But that's a small point when you consider that the 4700c scans quickly and easily with fantistic, quality, output.

5-0 out of 5 stars Works fine for me!?!
I am a bit puzzled by the negative comments. I have had absolutely no trouble, and I have done hundreds of scans in the last tree or so months. Installation was flawless (after I found the unlock tab), and performance is far beyond my expectations. Color repro is the first I have not been able to distinguish from the original. It is much faster than the 6300 or 5100 I have. Benign and friendly. It does take a bit to warm at first.

I wish there were more reviews from others.

1-0 out of 5 stars Poor image quality
The ScanJet 7400C displayed abundant dithering patterns in many colours especially in dark areas. The 6300C line was way better in terms of image quality.

1-0 out of 5 stars Huge Disappointment!
Bought the HP 7400c along with a separate large-format scanner to handle the scanning needs of our local historical society. The large-format scanner does 600dpi max and has no backlight, so we got the HP 7400c to do slides, negatives, and high-resolution work. I've used, and have been impressed by, HP scanners in the past, so I though this would be a no-brainer. In my opinion, HP has completely dropped the ball when it comes to the quality of its hardware, device drivers, and software. (My background: I'm an MSEE electronics hardware designer by day, tech volunteer by night, and assemble many PCs a year for family, friends, and myself.)

The HP 7400c has been nothing but trouble for us and I feel terrible about recommending the purchase, particularly now that started seriously acting up on the wrong side of the year warranty. Even when not in use, the stepper motor now constantly exerts torque on the toothed drive belt. It often slips and causes annoying "thumping" sounds from the scanner. We now have to keep the scanner disconnected from its power supply now when we aren't using it. I called HP but they want more money to fix it than the cost of the scanner we should have bought in the first place. Let me be clear here, this scanner has scanned no more than 40 items, has had power applied to it for no more than 200 hours, has lived an altogether pampered life from the day it was manufactured - and now it is broken! And because it is just a few days out of warranty, HP has washed its hands of the matter. I understand that HP has no legal obligation at this point, but they should be ashamed of themselves for making such a poor product.

Aside from breaking at the end of the warranty period, this scanner has been a constant thorn in my side. Right out of the box the HP 7400c would not peacefully co-exist with the other scanner on the SCSI bus. I tried everything including all of the firmware and software upgrades I could find on the HP web site, but finally gave up and installed another SCSI controller card in the PC. After experiencing some stability problems with the PC (and to be fair, I cannot prove whether the 7400c or the SCSI card were to blame here) I switched the HP 7400c over to the USB port instead (requires clunky un-install and re-install of the software). This slows down high-resolution scans and completely negates the reason we bought a high-end model in the first place, i.e. to get a high-bandwidth connection between the scanner and the PC.

The buttons on the front of the unit work only sporadically, and never correctly twice in a row - a pain since I wanted to set this up so that anyone could do simple "copies" via the scanner and printer. And the scanning software inexplicably bases the resolution of the scan on the "size" of an image rather than dpi. Cryptic nag screens are always popping up informing me that the "size" is wrong when I am trying to scan a negative for instance, and I am never sure how to act on them as they want to perform some unspecified automatic adjustment. My preference is to perform raw scans at an appropriate dpi (no image alteration by the scanner software) and then manipulate them in Paintshop (lower the resolution, sharpen, adjust brightness & contrast, etc.) - the HP software fights me every step of the way here.

Epson scanning hardware and software are vastly superior, I heartily recommend the Epson Perfection 1660 Photo, which I have at home. USB2 is definitely the way to go with a scanner. I will avoid the purchase of ANY HP products in the future, including printers (Canon does a better job here IMO).

2-0 out of 5 stars HP 7400C is not great and HP tech support is ugly!
Let me respectfully disagree with the fan's review. I bought HP 7400C from Amazon mainly because of my trust in HP products' quality (based on my experience with HP printers). But it was a huge mistake.
1. HP 7400C design and technical specs are good, but the quality is bad. Scanner that I bought did not work.
2. Installation software was so so, like something very cheap written in Visual Basic by consultants. Installation required rebooting my NT workstation and after reboot the installation software hangs and one should guess what to do next.
3. I tried to install HP 7400 on my Dell Precision workstation, running NT4.0 using SCSI -- techie from HP had poor knowledge on what is SCSI is all about. One HP techie suggested that their scanners are not compatible with Adaptec cards (industry standard SCSI card!).
4. Even more -- HP techies are not familiar with their own diagnostic software available for download. But even that software is designed in such a weird way, that it is not helpful.
5. I complained and got a letter from Fiorina, a standard response from HP computer. After that letter the same SCSI (person) gave me a call and repeated all his...statements about SCSI connection... ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Belt problems
I was pleased with this scanner until I scanned my third or fourth document. (Unfortunately, this occurred after the 90-day warranty expired.) While scanning the document, I heard a rattling noise, and the scanner stopped scanning. I looked under my document and through the scanner glass I saw a small white plastic cap rolling around loose. The belt that pulls the scanner back & forth had come off its upper axle because this cap, which should stay on the end of the upper axle, had popped off. (Note to HP: The cap ought to be threaded, like a screw, or glued on, so that it does not pop off.) I tried to email hp.com to ask for help in opening the scanner and fixing this on my own, but my computer keeps getting an error message from their website emailer.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not so great!!
I am not at all a computer genius, but I have used scanners before, and this is one of the worst. It's ultra slow, scan quality is awful, and you can't just scan an item and be done with it- if you scan a photo and then want to crop the image, it rescans the photo, then when you try to send it to a program or save it to disc, it scans it again. I find this extremely annoying, especially when I am scanning large items that I have to hold in place. I'm sure computer geniuses will laugh at this review, but all I can say is, I am quite unhappy with this scanner.

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't Buy It
I purchased this product to work on a project requiring scanning. After using the product exactly once, I didn't have a need for it for a while. Six months later or so, the scanner no longer worked. Since it was out of warranty, HP only offered service over the phone for a fee with no guarantee that I would get results. This product only offers a 3 month warranty. Is this standing behind your product? HP has lost my business, and I recommend that you consider another manufacturer.

I bought a ScanJet 3400C at the beginning of July. It worked fine until just after the 90 day warranty expired. Now I can't get the lamp to work and I either have to pay to have it repaired or pay HP... to return it for a new one. I only paid $... for it to begin with! 1-0 out of 5 stars Poor Performance with Macs
If you are a Mac owner keep away from this and other HP scanners. Certain performance claims made by HP in pre-sales literature as well as the Users Manual cannot be met, except for Windows. HP admits this, but does not appear to be bothered by these misleading statements.

In addition HP does no provide a hard copy user's manual, this is found on the CD, which makes for difficult learning unless you want to print out the 150 page color manual.

Customer support is not customer focused.

2-0 out of 5 stars Great product marred by bad software
I returned mine after spending about 14 hours installing, removing, reinstalling, cleaning the registry, searching HP's web support site, etc. with no success. HP's support has been no help, and my visit to the HP scanner support forum was no help either--much of the talk was about class action suites and BBS complaints.

The hardware and feature set is great, but HP apparently is having a problem managing their software development. I know I can't afford to spend this much time trying to get a technically mature, commodity product to perform its advertised function.

3-0 out of 5 stars Scanjet 5470 not bad but not great
All of my scanners have been hp scanjet scanners (3) and they all provide about the same bang for the buck. If you are looking to use the slide and neg. unit that comes with this scanner, "for get about it". A kid with a box of crayons would be money better spent and better resolution. I have an old HP 5p 300dpi scanner running on an old 133 mmx scsi computer lost in my basement some where that is faster and the scanned pics looked better. For my money, I'm looking for the box it came in so i can send it back. I don't know if it's the software or the hardware but the resolution is not 2400dpi or 1200, what ever the true dpi is?

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't buy this one!!
Pete (see review above) is right--my scanner was fine, but stopped working about a month after the warranty expired. the power indicator NEVER went off, and I suspect that the power supply burnt out.

Of course, you can get a "refurbished" unit for the price of a new one. Don't bother.

Although I was able to get some nice quality scans from the HP 4470C, in general the scanner was very slow and unreliable. The warm-up time for the lamp was very long and scans in transparancy mode (slides & negatives) consistantly had excessive scan lines at higher resolutions. My biggest complaint about this scanner is the fact that it stopped working about 10 days after the 3 month warranty expired. At that point HP will 'repair' the unit for the same price as a brand new scanner.

In short, I would recommend taking a pass on the HP 4470C and use your money to buy a similar Epson or Canon scanner (which both come with 1 year warranties).

1-0 out of 5 stars Take a pass on the HP 4470C
The HP 4470C generally provides good quality scans but it is very slow and un-reliable. It takes an exceptionally long time to warm up the scanning light and thereafter scanning and previewing is still slow. The scan quality from the slide/negative adapter was poor with persistant scan lines at higher resolution. My particular HP 4470C scanner stopped functioning about ten days after the 3 month warranty expired. At that point there is basically nothing to do but throw the old unit out.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great scanner for the money
I have to say that the quality and speed of this scanner is a great value for the money and you can scan negatives. The reason I give this 4 stars instead of 5 is because scan time for negatives is pretty slow and the software doesn't have options for setting the time for the light to turn off, though it's set at a reasonable time anyway. As with any HP product you can find all software/driver updates from there website. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Product, Great Quality, Competitive Price.
I had many many slides from years of photography to scan and so I set out to find a scanner that (at least had a built in slide adapter) would allow me to scan them fast, and in high quality.

This product has done just that.
I've read that the drivers for this product (for some operating systems) were not shipped with the product. I have Win 2000 and it was basically a plug'n'play experience. (i think that problem was basically with ME)

I've used it to scan my photos, and the quality of them far exceeds my own expectations.

I've used other scanners before and i find it just as slow, or maybe slightly faster than others. This must be a persistent problem throughout the technology of scanning, and not reflective of this product.

The only thing i will say that is bad about this is that the three buttons on the front of the device are annoying! I have "hit" them many many time by accident, hence launching the program and starting the lamp, all unnecessary. (user fault of course) But i wish the buttons were on top... (and i'm sure there is some way to disable them... or maybe i just have to move my scanner to a new place in my room!)... But honestly they should not be in that location.

Overall, great quality, awsome price and a great product. I'm specially impressed with the slide adapter.

1-0 out of 5 stars HP 5370C software not compatible with windows XP
Why didn"t HP include the necessary software to install this program ( Precisionscan Pro no. 2.52. ) or at least offer it at no cost without having to download such a very large scanning program. This isn"t very good for HP consumer relations. My next scanner will be a cannon.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very good scanner
I bought this scanner at a wholesale club-- I've got no complaints with it. Scanner allows you to copy, fax, email and print all with a touch of a button. Plus it warms up faster than other scanners I have used and no annoying clicking noises. The resolution is nice and the scanning software is pretty straight forward. Great scanner, however an on/off switch would be nice.

4-0 out of 5 stars good product, easy installation but takes lots of disk space
Installation of this scanner was a breeze under Windows 98 and I was scanning stuff in no time. I use this scanner for photographs and I am satisfied with the scans I'm getting. The one big surprise was the space required for the applications that come with the scanner--- four hundred and fifteen (415) megabytes! Disks are cheap and voluminous these days so this isn't really a big deal, but it may catch some folks who are strapped for disk space by surprise. Fair warning.

1-0 out of 5 stars Window ME requires a patch from HP website
Just before I began installing the driver, I read that if you are using Windows ME, you have to download a patch from HP web site.

I don't understand why HP could not have simply included this patch in the provided CD. One can argue that HP is supplying the needed technical support to provide any fix. The question is if they can print this on their instruction, they must have already known the problem(s), then why not just simply include this fix with the product? ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Very slow when using ADF
I have had this 5470 with ADF (under model 5490 CSE tag)for about 6 months now. I am very surprised and disappointed at HP quality & lack of enginering forethoughts.

First of all, the underside of the scan glass was contaminated with lints from the factory which showed up all over the scanned images. I did not want to remove the glass to clean it because it will void the warranty. The machine was bought directly from HP so it was difficult to ship it back without paying a hefty shipping fee.
Secondly, the ADF is quite (if not very ) slow. It takes about 10 to 20 seconds to warm up the lamp and then another 10 sec to recognize the ADF. The precision scan software did not remember the previous settings so a few more seconds needed to set the desired paremeters. If use the WIA (builtin win XP driver), the scanner would scann the ADF and then automatically scann the glass surface - very bizarre behavior. For multiple ADF scan jobs, the long startup time would repeat itself again. So expect to have a cup of coffee ready or a book to read while waiting for the scanner to start to work. I am glad I still have my 2 yrs old Brother MFC-9600 for fast scanning of documents.

Thirdly, the scanned images thru ADF are often NOT straight.

As a productivity tool, HP software and the slowness of this scanner need major improvements. I cannot see why HP would let out these products without extensive testing in terms of ergonomics and useability.

On a positive note, the resulting color scanning is very good. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Great Scanner That Does A Lot Of Things
I love this scanner! I got it over a year ago and it is still working strong. I got it for the ADF feature. I use the ADF with Acrobat Writer. Very rarely does the ADF jam and when it does its due mostly to user error. When it does jam it does not eat the paper and it's easy to correct. The software that comes with it is simple to use. Make sure your computer has loads of memory if you plan on scanning anything over 600dpi. I've also used this to archive photos taken on the job and it does a great job at that. I don't suggest buying this scanner if your main requirement is film or slides. For that you should get a dedicated machine. I've used with USB and SCSI. SCSI is faster but usually I don't notice the difference unless I'm scanning over 600 dpi. The only bad thing I can say about this machine is that it can be noise. Good luck.

1-0 out of 5 stars Expected better from HP
Very noisy & slow scanner.
ADF unit stopped working after 6 months.
Scans not the best, would not reccomend.

1-0 out of 5 stars A very poor scanner; Very noisy and Poor photo scan quality
When using the automatic document feeder, it produces document scans that are skewed slightly. HP technical support says this is normal. I find this completely unsatisfactory. You will not be able to produce accurate document scans.

Do not purchase this scanner if you intend to scan photographs. The scan quality if very poor. Scans appear with no contrast and overly pixelated in dark areas of photo scans. The colors do not appear correct.

The performance is also unsatisfactory. It is very slow and extremely noisy.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good beginner-serious amateur scanner
After reading review after review for film scanners I decided to purchase the HP S20xi and I don't regret it. If I properly exposed a slide in the first place I hardly need to make any adjustments to the scanned sample. The S20xi scans my color and chromogenic negatives wonderfully. The scanning software that is including in the box is good. With it you can crop, adjust brightness, shadow areas, colors, etc. before you perform the actual scan. My only complaint so far (I've only had it for three days and I've scanned about 60 pictures so far) is the dust. I have a light box and I clean the neg/slide until I'm sure it's spotless before I put it in the scanner. The scanned image still has some dust spots and I've use air on the scanner to no avail. It's not too big of a deal to me to remove the dust spots using Photoshop, but it would be nice if the scanner had ICE or at least was willing to let my air remove the dust! Overall, I'm very happy with the S20xi...if you want to enhance your images for personal digital printing or simply archive your photo library to CD (as I'm doing), the S20xi is a good alternative to higher priced scanners.

5-0 out of 5 stars Five years of daily use and still scanning
I am a photographer and I've used this tool almost everyday for five years. At 16 bit, 2,400 dpi this scanner makes a 40 mg file. This scanner is easy to use, reliable, an incredible bargain. If you don't need resolution above 2,400 dpi you can't miss with this gem.

1-0 out of 5 stars Works occasionally
I've had the S20 for several years. It suffers a lot from "communication lost".
The software upgrades do nothing to solve the problem.
Buying expensive cables does nothing. Re-installing software does nothing.
Adding high quality USB ports does nothing.
Swapping computers (at least five different machines) does nothing.
Once in a while it works and then it works adequately.
You can tinker yourself to death with this one.

5-0 out of 5 stars Unbeatable price/performance
So far I have scanned over 700 out of the 2500 35mm slides my father took in the '70s . I scan at the highest 2400 DPI resolution, entire image. I have had no problems whatsoever with this scanner. For $... the HP Photosmart is an unbelievable steal -- almost an impulse buy in comparison to the $...+ scanners available.

I was worried about these slides degrading and the fact that nobody uses the projector anymore. Now the slides cannot degrade and are easily burned to CD for sharing with family.

Details:

This scanner scans slides and negatives not at 1600 DPI, not at 1800 DPI, but at 2400 DPI. At this resolution you can easily blow up photographs, find hidden closeups. I was able to zoom in on a family member's watch at 25 feet and tell the time, or zoom in in on a 2mm object in a 5x7 photo and tell that it is a "no parking" sign. As it is, a 2400 DPI full size TIFF takes up 20Mb of disk space. More resolution and you will have outrageously large files, unless you want to use lossy JPEG compression. You will most likely need to purchase a big hard drive and extra RAM if you are archiving many slides or negatives, but with the low price tag of this scanner you can buy drive and memory with the money you save.

Installation was a snap. Simply install the driver software, stick the scanner in the USB port and you're good to go. The scanning software is easy to use. It takes about one minute to preview, size, and scan a slide. The software allows you to save a size filter so you can don't have to adjust the preview borders for every image.

The HP Photosmart software does not come with many bells and whistles. The multimedia organizer software from Broderbund is next to useless. The ArcSoft PhotoImpression software is also next to useless, unless you like running silly filters on photos. It does not have a good auto levels, auto contrast, or auto color, or dust correction, or anything. It allows you to crop and rotate images and remove redeye. I'd recommend checking out ACDSee or freeware image browsers. The scanning software does not include curve tools or ICE/GEM image enhancement. However, you can always purchase Photoshop and the correction plug-ins from Applied Science Fiction. You may also want to check out batch image processing applications like Debabelizer or RoboEnhancer for ACDSee. Some of these tools I have not yet purchased -- merely researched on the net.

A few places for improvement:

1. The scanning software cannot save TIFFs using deflate/ZIP or LZW compression. Zip compression decreases image size on disk by about 20-25 percent.
2. It would be nice if it supported batch scanning of slides with a tray, but for $... I won't complain.
3. Negatives don't seem to scan as well as slides, but that could be because negatives deteriorate faster than slides.
4. It would be nice if the scanning software had auto edge detection for images and default to that so you wouldn't need to run a size filter on every slide.

All in all, the HP Photosmart is a winner. Don't spend money on resolution and features you don't need. Save money for a system upgrade. Get this baby and you're ready to rock.

4-0 out of 5 stars S20xi Photo Scanner
The set up was easy. Please note that Windows XP will not support two scanners plugged in at once. This gave me some problem until I figured it out, and un-plugged the other scanner.
The slide scanner is great I would rate it 4 1/2 stars.
It is great on Slides (35MM) but won't do medium (120) format slides.
This is a down side for me.
It is a little slow but still gives a excellant image.
Be sure to dust off the sides and negetives before inserting them. This saves on image clean up later.
All in all I am very pleased with this product! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars One very good scanner
This is my first HP product, and it certainly won't be my last. Installing this scanner on my Windows 98 system with my existing Lexmark printer was a breeze, as well as installing the included software. It was very easy to scan everything from photos to written text documents. The software was sometimes off when it came to selecting the type of document you want to scan (a black and white drawing instead of a color photograph, and vice versa), but you can easily change it and obtain the results you want. As with most other scanners, there is a printer pass-through port, which works well, though there may be slight pauses while printing. Other than that, this is a great HP scanner!

5-0 out of 5 stars A great product!
This is my first scanner and it was recommended to me by someone who has been using HP scanners for years. It was easy to install and get started. And the scanned pictures look fantastic!!! Also, in resonse to the reviewer from Palmyra, PA: Yes, you can crop with this scanner. After the initial preview scan, use your mouse to box-off the portion of the image you want to save. Then proceed to complete the scan. The saved image will only be the portion you boxed-off.

2-0 out of 5 stars Yikes Watch Out for XP and This Scanner
I originally used this scanner with 98se and was very happy with it. We upgraded to XP and the problems began. First XP wouldn't recognize it when I tried to connect it to the same USB port that it worked happily with before. I tweaked and fiddled and read on the web about a lot of people who had the same problem.

Hp help was no help. I didn't have any of the suspect hardware they mentioned. I downloaded updates and tried to reset the compatibility. Nothing worked. So I connected it with the parallel cable. It now works but o-h s-o-o s-l-o-o-o-w-l-y.

So I went from being fairly happy with this beast to being quite unhappy.

5-0 out of 5 stars Easy to install and use
This scanner was the easiest piece of equipment to istall I have ever done. Instructions are very clear and take you step by step through the eentire process. Pictures scanned quickly and clearly. Easily filed on my computer and other programs. I am very happy with this scanner and with the price I paid.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Scanner for the Occasional Office Need
I bought this for our office where we occasionally need to scan a picture into a form we can print or OCR some boilerplate text.

I hooked it up to a Windows 98SE machine. It's an older computer so I used the serial rather than the USB port. I'm not sure if this slowed the scanner down or not, but it does seem to move slower than my other scanner from a different manufacturer. It's also noisier.

The software is adequate. It will allow for OCR. I'm not sure how easy it would be for someone new to using OCR or a scanner to get started, but I was up and running with only a couple of false starts-- it didn't like my word processing program (one of the biggies too, one that many people consider Perfect) but you can export the OCR file as text to wordpad with a little experimentation.

All in all worth what I paid for it. ... Read more
