HP expired the rebate just one month after the last eligible purchase date.I called them and the just said 'that's just the way it goes.' I know other companies use rebates as a gimmick to get a quick buck, but until now I have expected more from HP.

Amazon.com Review Setting up the ScanJet 3200C was easy--we just followed the instructions on the setup poster. We plugged in the AC power supply, connected the parallel cable (included), turned on our PC, inserted the CD-ROM, and followed the HP setup wizard. After restarting our PC, we also installed Adobe PhotoDeluxe 2.0 and Caere OmniPage Pro (trial edition), which are included on the same CD-ROM. To test the scanner, we started an image-editing application, selected the ScanJet 3200C as our source, and clicked the scan button. The HP PrecisionScan LT application started automatically, running in its own window, and displayed four easy steps for completing the scan. We followed each step as we scanned a magazine photo and exported it back to our image-editing application. The scan took 52 seconds and included unwanted moiré patterns (typical when scanning magazine photos). We were unable to find an option for filtering these unwanted patterns in the PrecisionScan software, but the scan was otherwise clear, bright, and true to the original. A similar scan of another color photo did not include the moiré patterns. To test the OCR software, we placed a document on the scanner that contained both text and graphics. The text was white on a black background--a difficult test for many scanners. We started Microsoft Word and selected its Acquire Text command. The scan took 2.5 minutes, including OCR translation, and the result contained many typographical errors. The software also mistook much of the text for graphic elements. We repeated the scan with black text on a white background; the results were much better, but there were still several typographical errors. Overall, the performance was fair and, considering the low price, we think the scanner did well. Pros: Cons: Features Reviews (23)

Amazon.com Product Description The HP DVD Movie Writer dc3000 is an external DVD writer with built-in analog video capture. It lets you quickly and easily transfer home video directly from tape (via camcorder or VCR) to digital format on your PC and to DVD+R/+RW discs. It provides a full suite of software to enable video editing along with photo, music and data applications, and it lets you write and read CD-R and CD-RW discs as well as DVD+R/+RW. The DVD Movie Writer dc3000 lets you better preserve your family memories by easily transferring outdated VHS and other analog videotapes to DVD. HP created the DVD Movie Writer dc3000 as a simple tool to convert videotapes by combining the analog-to-digital conversion and video compression function with a full-fledged DVD writer. Connected to a desktop or notebook PC through either the USB 1.1 or USB 2.0 port, the HP DVD Movie Writer transfers VHS or other analog tapes and creates digital negatives on long-lasting DVD+R/+RW discs. It can convert video from a variety of formats including VHS, Hi8, Digital 8, Mini DVD and BetaMax, as long as the appropriate format player connects to the Movie Writer. The DVD Movie Writer also functions as a standard DVD/CD writer to burn music, photos and data to CD and DVD backup program files. After the analog tapes are converted by the Movie Writer to the digital MPEG-2 format--the same format all commercially available DVDs are written to--consumers can edit and share their DVD masterpieces with friends and family. And, users can get as detailed as they want in editing their DVDs. The DVD Movie Writer comes with a number of video-editing software packages, including a full-suite editing package, ArcSoft ShowBiz 2, and MuVee autoProducer, a quick and easy video editing software. ArcSoft ShowBiz 2 lets consumers add or delete scenes, add music or special effects, or create slideshows set to music. Easy-to-use screens allow users to drag and drop video clips, digital photos and music files in either storyboard or simple timeline editing formats. MuVee autoProducer is a fun and easy editing software that quickly turns digital movies into music videos with a few clicks of a mouse. The HP DVD Movie Writer also comes with software to help save data, video or music on DVDs and CDs, including Veritas RecordNow and Simple Backup. SimpleBackup reliably backs up, protects and restores individual files or folders or helps restore an entire PC hard drive. Additionally, Cyberlink PowerDVD software makes it easy to play DVD movies on a PC. What's in the box Features Reviews (58)
1) If you want to copy the DVDs you rented at Blockbuster last night, that's all you. This device has the capability, but was never intended, to do this. 2) I personally know two people (other than myself) who have bought this product and none of the three of us have had any problems installing or using it. To accentuate this, I offer to you the oldest computers stats (mine): AMD Athlon 1700+ (1.463 GHz) All three of us followed the installation instructions EXACTLY, step by step and never jumping ahead (it's only like 5 steps, anyway). 3) The video editing software will easily capture your video. For the simple purpose of copying old video camera movies to DVD, the software is way more than enough. The software also provides you with literally hundreds of fade-in/fade-out, text, audio comentary, and graphics options if you wish to spice up your videos. There are enough tools to allow you to create near-professional level results. The most beautiful thing about the software, though, is that it is very easy to use and learn. While it's not the best tool as far as file management goes, the interface itself is very comfortable feeling; options are well laid out, logical, and easy to toggle between. There are a few improvements that could be made to the software suite, but considering this is 'lite' software, it is very good. 4) Did I mention that all these movies you have created can be burned to a DVD+R, DVD+RW, VCD, or just to your computer's hard drive? 5) Most DVD writers come with a disk for you to use, but this drive comes with a DVD+RW, wich allows you to experiment and erase, a very nice and USEFULL touch. 6) The digital to analog (DA) converter works very well. I have experienced no hickups or static from any source, including my VHS-C tapes when played directly from the video camera to the dc3000. 7) The HP DVD Movie Writer dc3000 can be used as a regular DVD+R / DVD+RW / CD-R / CD-RW drive for data purposes as well, not just for the video recording aspect. OVERALL: While not a professional level product, the HP DVD Movie Writer dc3000 is perfect for everyone else, no matter how much effort you want to put into spicing up your videos or backing up your data.

It has a nice, big scanning surface and works fairly quickly. One downer is that it comes with no cool editing software...just the necessary scanning and basic editing tools. The pictures come out looking sharp, and the scanner is of a reasonable size. One problem I had with it was that my computer would randomly reboot as I was saving the scan image....a tech support call suggested that I eliminate all other programs while running the scanner to maximize my system resources. I did this, and haven't run into any more reboots...so far, that is. A good product, but you can do a bit better if you spend 20 bucks more.
The best feature on this unit is the copier feature, on push of the button and the image goes right to my printer, and it looks awesome....... I have ONE COMPLAINT. THe quality of the buttons in front of the machine WILL NOT stand up to heavy use. I dont use them you can activate the features via software... if you forget that HP got cheap on the buttons you will love this unit.

Amazon.com Product Description The 4400Cse isn't the fastest scanner on the market (13-second preview speed at 1,200 dpi), but other timesaving features such as one-touch scanning to e-mail, photo reprint, and copy even it out nicely. USB and parallel-port connections are provided, as is a USB cable for ease of setup. The included software bundle includes ArcSoft PhotoImpression, PhotoFantasy, HP PrecisionScan Pro with OCR capability, and more. A solid scanner that will keep most users quite happy, the 4400Cse also comes backed with a 90-day manufacturers warranty. Features Reviews (5)
It performed fairly well, except the IRIS OCR was [unsatisfactory]. I bought FineReader Pro 5.0 OCR, which works wonderfully.
I talked to HP support, which was great, but they had no solutions for me. I exchanged the scanner and the replacement had the same problem. Of course I tried all the basic things from HP, but to no availe. They are sending me an XP driver CD(since I upgraded during the time I was having the problems), to reinstall, but I don't think that will help at all and I will end up looking for another product. I was very pleased witht he software and tech support though, too bad the hardware isn't living up to my expectations.

Amazon.com Review The ScanJet 6350Cxi is a solid basic scanner that more than adequately fills a useful range of needs. Setup and installation were quick, easy, and intuitive. The oversized quick installation poster was easy to read and simple to follow. If you want additional assistance, you will need to check the coach feature (part of the extensive online help system) or other online help, since the 6350Cxi doesn't include a printed user's guide. You can also use the internal coach to help scan your work after a quick but thorough tutorial. (It took us only 10 minutes to run through all the steps.) In our tests, the scanner required a warm-up time of just under a minute and a half. After warm-up, we quickly reproduced flat images and slides using several different preset dpi settings. The scanner also has an automatic feeder for scanning multiple flat documents or images, which we found particularly useful. With the feeder attached, the scanner can handle up to five scans per minute. The slide adapter is a bit cumbersome, with too much leeway in the placement of the slide, but it produces vivid scans. This is a fairly effortless scanner that can meet a wide range of needs. Whether paired with an ink-jet or laser printer, you will get crisp, clear scanned images. You can also be fax scans or attach them to an e-mail with the click of a button. --David Greenberger Pros: Cons: Features Reviews (6)
RE bulb problems, I found my bulb was fine. If anythng goes wrong reset the scanner. Just power everything down, disconect the cables and power for 30 seconds. power up scanner (usb or scsi not conected) repeat 3 times, then a forth time with everything conected. Start up your computer and it all works. you may also have to check that your hpscnmgr.dll and hpscnmgr.hlp files are still in your wwindows system32 directory - if not, reload your software (available on the HP website) I also had the paper feed problem, HP told me how to clear and clean it. Bottom line was HP service answered my email within an hour (as they usually do) and continued to work me through any problems. Those problems didn't occur until after almost 3 years .. as these things go that is pretty impressive. BUT - I would like to have a larger flatbed (legal documents, etc.) and sugest that to anyone buying a scanner
Then, using Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software, you can turn those typed notes into Microsoft Word documents you can edit yourself. Need to get your documents scanned into your computer? Get this scanner!
The good news: setup and configuration were child's play under my Windows 2000 system--it's truly plug-and-play all the way. The scanner is solid and robust, and churns out the scans reliably. The ADF works quite well and is a major time-and-effort saver, especially for those like me who aren't able to locate the scanner to be within reach while seated at one's computer. The image quality is fine and the software included, Precision Scan 2.0, does its job. The not-as-good-but-still-ok news: the software is not the easiest to use; it's a bit confusing when scanning either from the TWAIN applet or from within another application, having to switch back and forth to get the preliminary scan, crop it, and then obtain the "final" scan. More visible buttons and fewer menus to navigate would be the ticket here. Similarly, when you try to use the buttons on the front of the scanner to scan-to email, fax, print, file, etc, you have to navigate too many menus to get the job done. The slide adapter is so kludgy and imprecise as to be nearly useless, so if you are going to scan a bunch of slides there is a separate transparency adapter you will need lest you pull out your hair. And the scanning platen looked like my 18 month-old's eating surface. There was dust and debris all over both sides of the glass, plainly visible in the glow of the scanning lamp. How much effect this has on the quality of one's scans I do not know, but HP should do a better job on this to be sure. These objections do not detract from the basic function of the unit, making excellent quality scans, but there is room for improvement, hence the 4 star rating. ... Read more

Amazon.com Product Description Print directly from your digital camera with a CompactFlash, SmartMedia, or Sony Memory Stick memory card, or connect to your computer using the built-in USB port. HP photo imaging software is included. Printing is a bit slow, with a 4-by-6 photo requiring just under three minutes, but quality takes time. The printer has a markedly compact design, with dimensions of only 8.8 by 4.3 by 4.7 inches, and it weighs less than three pounds, so you can take it with you when you're on the go. Sorry, Mac users, the HP 100 is only compatible with PCs: Windows 98, 2000 Professional, Me, XP Home, and XP Professional. The printer is backed by a one-year warranty, with the option to extend it to three years at additional cost. Features Reviews (52)
I purchased this HP PS 100 printer -- along with an Olympus C-700 digital camera -- and I've been very happy. The PS 100 makes bold and beautiful 4" x 6" prints that are every bit as sharp as those from a full-size printer. As an additional convenience, both my camera and printer use DPOF (digital print order format) which allows for one-button printing. I can crop (and select) the photos I want to print on the camera's rear LCD screen -- pop the camera's Smart Media card into the printer -- and then output borderless 4" x 6" photos just by hitting "print" (with no scrolling necessary to find the right shot, since the PS 100 always calls up the DPOF pictures first). What could be easier? With the PS 100, printing photos is so simple -- I now find myself giving away pictures (as gifts) to friends and family (something I had done only on rare occasion before). I've even taken the PS 100 to family gatherings -- where I've handed out photos on the spot (which everyone thought was cool!). The PS 100 uses familiar ink jet cartridges, and is much less expensive to purchase than competing photo printers from Canon, Olympus, and Sony (all of which use a much more expensive dye sublimation technology). The PS also prints a full-size 4" x 6" snapshot, (whereas the others, such as the Canon and the Olympus, make only prints that are quite a bit smaller). The PS 100 is also the only printer in the bunch to accommodate all of the major memory formats (Compact Flash, Smart Media and Memory Stick); something the other printers will do only with an additional PC card adapter. (For those of you more advanced, printing from your PC is an available option with the printer's built in USB connection and supplied software on disc. The 4" x 6" paper size template also transfers over to other applications, like MS Word, enabling one to print documents from the PS 100 on to 4" x 6" note cards; which, for example, I've used to prepare notes for speeches.) The HP PS 100 is the absolute easiest way to get into digital photo printing. And when the next family gathering rolls around -- you won't want to leave home without it!
The printer works stand-alone, plug your flash ROM in and you can jump to a specific picture number and print, the interface could not get any easier! You can also print prrof sheets (4x6 with multiple thumb-nail pictures). The bundled software allows you to take pictures off your hard drive and send them to the PhotoSmart 100 though the USB cable (cable isn't included unfortunately) USB is the only option for connection. Printer includes 6 blank 4x6 photo sheets, and 1 cartridge (HP claims you can get 120 pictures out of a single ink jet cart, I've been told 100 is more realistic), paper is also priced reasonable. Overall you do save money, you have unsurpased convienence and the quality is excellent. There are few products I would recommend this highly; if you own a digital camera, buy a PhotoSmart 100!
However... after putting print picture on my friz door for 2 month. skin tone color has changed to completely green and other colors faded to dark purple. it wasn't exposed to direct sunlight neither. other pictures all suffered discoloration after 2 month. even the ones that were kept well in a frame. it was all printed on premiere papers that came with the printer. is this the limitation of inkjet technology everyone already aknowledged prior to purchasing? or am I the only one suffering from discolorization and fade?
The photopaper used on this printer, however, can be easily damaged, so care must be taken on handling it after your pictures are printed. Perhaps I'll find a 3rd party paper, or HP will improve theirs. ... Read more

Amazon.com Product Description The 4570c is easy to set up, and the seven one-touch buttons will have you scanning, emailing, or editing your images (with the help of the included imaging software) in no time. A Hi-Speed USB 2.0 connection transfers data to your computer much faster than USB 1.1, but the scanner fully supports the older interface for backward compatibility. If your needs grow, an optional auto-photo feeder can handle up to 24 3-by-5-inch or 4-by-6-inch photos at a time, letting you archive your memories for easy storage or quick transferring. The scanner is backed by a one-year warranty. Features Reviews (18)
As near as I can tell, it is largely incompatible with MacOS X 10.3 at any functional level. TWAIN scanning into Photoshop CS is not functional. The "HP Director" software barely works, it is often unsuccessful attempting to launch other applications to do its bidding, especially when trying to set preferences. Using the copy machine functionality to scan and print, doesn't appear to work with my HP printer, as the scanning software complains about the image being too wide (before it even starts scanning) which isn't the case. I'm still trying to get it to reliably scan a document without "surprises" and I haven't even looked at the other features. I'm a power user, and know my way around OS X. The HP software is horrific.
The good news: The hardware is solid. You can return it easily. HP support is ok but bureaucratic, given that they have to work within the limits of the product. The bad news: I've NEVER seen such bad software (and I've used a lot). As others have noted: It's slow, very buggy, and gets quite confused about what's happening with the scanner. And there are too many little apps--in all, lots of complexity and little sophistication. But the biggest problem is that its design completely ignores the variety of workflows you might have for scanning different docs in different contexts. Rather than making scanning efficient, you might begin to suspect that HP was intentionally trying to waste your time. Why else would they release such software? This is a plea to HP: Please, please give your software development much higher priority. Look at the Apple iLife apps for usability experience ideas (I say this even though I'm using Windows). If you need to, divert money from your advertising to software development. It'll be money well spent towards keeping your reputation alive. Specific example problems: Scan settings appear to be arbitrarily remembered by the various programs. Data transfer among the multiple programs is at best unreliable--after doing multiple hi-res slide scans to save time I've had the terrible "HP Director" appplication just crash before handing off the files to the "HP Photo & Imaging Gallery". Poof--all the scans are lost (I can't even find the temp files...and of course where they're stored isn't documented). Resetting default scan values doesn't seem to take. The "HP Scanning" application (there are too many small apps installed) seems to constantly lose track of whether the lamp's warmed up or not--even after it's been on for an hour! The "HP Photo & Imaging Gallery" is incredibly slow--it seems to constantly and needlessly recreate thumbnails of large scan files. (It's slow using version 2.0 of the scanner software on a 1GHz XP machine.) Frequently it'll display two thumbnails for the same file, or no thumbnail for a file you just scanned. And it freezes. And the selection of tools is uneven: zoom but no hand to move around images (scroll bars only). And, and, ... . HP, please partner up with a company that has stable existing software, such as ACDSee's image viewer. I can't imagine what it's like working at HP these days handling tech support for this product. My sympathies to HP tech support.
HP has a scan tool on their WWW site that is supposed to tell you what updates or patches you need and the 4570c is listed as a supported device. The tool tells me that it cannot find any supported devices attached and wants me to check the USB connection. Windows found it as soon as the power was turned on. Speaking of power, I had to make a trip to Wal-Mart and get a power strip just for this scanner. The power supply is about as large as a family-size bar of soap. If this wasn't a gift I would take it back for a refund. I can't recomend any other scanners. Maybe this one will be worth the time once the software problems are corrected.

Yeah, I was polite and thankful upon getting it as a gift, but I'll defenitely be returning it with a speed! Before you ever turn on the camera, you'll already be unimpressed. The camera feels very light and plastic-ish. Weighing in at a mere .46 pounds, this thing feels more like a children's toy than a real $200 digital camera. Then you start taking pictures ...Anyone who has ever had a digital camera before will immediately notice the lack of features and options, and the picture quality can easily be obtained (surpassed, even??) with a much cheaper 35mm. There really isn't any special features or advanced options to speak of, and the photographer's creative control is extremely restricted. There is not even a Sepia or Black & White Mode to speak of, so any such editing of your pictures will have to be done on your computer, in a Photoshop program for example. Many things that a serious photographer would like to have control over will be absent. The white balance, ISO, and the shutter speed cannot be controlled, they are all automatic! This becomes very frustrating. There is also a "movie" mode, but I believe it is actually refered to as a "motion image" or "motion JPEG" or something. This is because you can't record the video with audio. So really, the best thing to do is never, ever, ever buy this camera for yourself, or loved ones on their birthdays, either. Serious photographers will find absolutely NO significant controls to take charge over, feeling very restricted. The camera is simply too simple for them. Folks new to digital cameras will find themselves satisfied for now, but in a few months when they begin learning more and more about digital cams they will already be ready for an upgrade. So even for amateurs, the camera is not worth the price. I recomend instead the Sony Cybershot P10. It does cost a bit more money, but new digital photographers will find a lot of options and controls at their disposal. Even though there's a bit more to learn with that camera, no one should be intimidated by it. Sony has made a very easily-accessible camera in the P10. For even more advanced photographers, the Nikon Coolpix 5700 is an excellent 5.0 megapixel camera, with even yet more advanced features than the Sony P10. Both of these cameras will make any photographer, amateurs and serious ones, very happy ...the price is a little higher, but anyone willing to give either a try will realize that the price is definitely worth it. And as for this worthless camera? Anyone could eventually find that this simplified, point-and-shoot camera is hardly worth $200. I wouldn't pay one red cent for this thing. pea sout

Amazon.com Review Since the drive uses a SCSI interface, you'll need a SCSI controller card and cable, which unfortunately are not included with this package. If you don't have a SCSI system and don't have any desire to transport the drive, you might be better off with a less expensive internal EIDE model. But if you're SCSI ready and want to hot-swap the drive between systems, it's an excellent option. With a SCSI card preinstalled, the drive hookup was simple: we ran the installation program, set the drive to the SCSI number recommended, plugged it in, and rebooted our computer. SCSI is the fastest way to handle an external drive (and often internal as well), and we were pleased at how fast this drive wrote data. We filled a 650 MB CD in about 10 minutes on a Celeron 300 MHz system. The CD-Writer Plus also features a nice software bundle. In addition to Adaptec's standard write software, Direct CD and Easy CD Creator, the drive ships with HP Disaster Recovery (for restoring your system after a crash) as well as Neato's CD Labeler to create your own CD labels. Another nice feature of a SCSI drive is its easy portability. Just unplug the cable and carry this drive to wherever you need it. It's not particularly compact (the drive alone weighs almost five pounds), but it's much easier than swapping out an internal drive. A SCSI drive isn't the easiest to configure, and we would have liked to see more installation and troubleshooting information than Hewlett-Packard offered in the thin manual and short setup guide. But if you know your way around SCSI peripherals, the CD-Writer Plus won't be a problem--and you'll enjoy its speed and versatility. --J. Curtis Pros: Cons: Features Reviews (2)

Amazon.com Review Setup and softwareinstallation were quick, easy, and intuitive. The oversized installationguidelines are easy to read and simple to follow (although reading them is ascumbersome as wrestling with a full-size road map in the car). If you wantadditional assistance, you will need to check the electronic owner's manualstored on the CD-ROM, since no printed owner's manual is included. The novicecan benefit from using the online coach, which guides you through basic tasksand will have you producing work after a quick and thorough tutorial (10 minuteswas all it took for us to run through the steps). With a warm-up time of justunder a minute and a half, the scanner is soon ready to reproduce flat imagesand slides. The slide adapter is a bit cumbersome, with too much leeway in theplacement of the slide, though the scans it produced were vivid. Scanner buttonsallow you to scan an image (which is then displayed on screen via the driversoftware), or use a number of other features. The printer button essentiallyfunctions as a copier; just press it once to scan and print. Scanned images canalso be easily faxed or attached to an e-mail. This is a relatively effortlessscanner to use, and a good basic model that can meet a wide range of needs. Itis an especially good choice for home use. Solutions to most problems can beeither intuited or solved with the guide. We were pleased with the crisp imageswe obtained on both an ink-jet and a laser printer. --David Greenberger Pros: Features Reviews (8)
- not-too-bad results for color photos, especially for web use. - the film/slide-adapter contraption that it comes with is practically useless. The reflector inside is hazy, and since it is made of cheap plastic, it broke when I tried to use it. The lighting on the resulting images is waay off and the over all quality is pretty bad. - ScanJet software that it comes with isn't too friendly, but it's ok after you get used to it. - scanning anything over 300dpi is much slower than expected - this machine is LOUD! Well just last night, the scanner literally burnt up and died on me when I connected it to another computer. I'm not sure what exactly happened, but when I ran a test scan, the light burnt out and the slider choked as it tried to scan..leaving a pretty nasty burnt odor in the room for a while...
I'm not sure if these new Mac drivers are now included in the standard packaging. If not, they can be ordered for a nominal fee (what amounts to little more than a shipping charge) from HP. Updates can then be obtained by download from the HP website. There are some pieces of in-the-box software which are NOT Mac compatible, and which HP makes no attempt to make available to the Windows-impaired. Most users will not be inconvenienced by this, however, as they are minor, third-party releases that provide functionality Mac users probably already have. The Mac drivers, in their latest version, seem to be as good or better than the Windows originals. In fact, I found that the front buttons on the scanner seemed to work a lot better on my Mac than my Windows-based machine. I often found in Windows that sometimes the buttons stop working at all, and I had to reboot. I've had no such problems with the Mac drivers. Beyond the issue of Mac compatability, the scanner itself has yet to seriously disappoint me. The slide adapter is a little bit of a joke, and it does take acres of time to scan at really high resolutions, but most users will see this as a serious upgrade to their imaging capabilities. If you want a scanner that's appropriate for all professional work (save, perhaps, print photographic editing at extremely high resolutions), this strikes a nice balance between features and price. Web masters, in particular, will need little more than this scanner. ... Read more
