5-0 out of 5 stars I'm confused, but satisfied.
I am an average consumer, not a PC expert by any means.I purchased an HP 9510i 12x4x32, installed it easily, and was able to burn a 20 song CD-R in about 12 minutes with the included software on my el-cheapo HP Pavilion PC.The unit failed though and I had to send it back for a full refund. The closest model they had in stock at the time however, was the 9150i 8x4x32.I figured I would lose a great deal of speed in burning CDs, but would save $50 on the purchase price, and decided to "settle" for this model. (While I waited for it to arrive, I happened to download a trial version of "NERO" off the internet.) I received the new unit, installed it in about five minutes and to my amazement, am now able to burn a 20 song CD-R in about 10 minutes!I highly recommend the 9150i. It was a breeze to install, and is idiot-proof when it comes to burning CDs.I guess I recommend scouting out some different software other than what it comes with, however.

1-0 out of 5 stars The worst of the worst
This piece of garbage takes around five CDs to make one without errors. So if you buy a 50 unit spindle and you use this garbage then you can expect to take advantage of only 10 CDs, maybe less. It's simply the very worst of all. I had a HP CD Writer 8250i in the past and it worked fine, but I guess I was just lucky, because many people I know had problems with HP drives. I wouldn't recomment HP burners to anyone. Better buy Plextor, Sony, Yamaha.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent CD-Burner
Reviewer: Carlos from P.R. I bought this CDR for my computer.I found that the Hewlett Packard has the most features available, Excellent product, easy installation, and easy to use.

1-0 out of 5 stars Ridiculous Customer Service
I purchased this drive in large part because of a rebate HP was offering at the time. (Don't worry the drive costs less now without a rebate.)

HP expired the rebate just one month after the last eligible purchase date.I called them and the just said 'that's just the way it goes.'

I know other companies use rebates as a gimmick to get a quick buck, but until now I have expected more from HP.

1-0 out of 5 stars Never worked for Pentium 200 Mhz with 128 MB RAM
Even thoug HP says minumum requirements are Pentium 200 MHz with 64 MB RAM and Windows 95, it has never worked for me ever and ended up with returning. I tested with even 1X speed, however, it also caused error after a while in writing. HP's burning software doesn't tell much about the reason of write errors. It only says that CD may be dirty or scratched and destroyed ten new CDs of mine in that way. Reading was working fine, but writing was never successful. Troubleshooting support was not helpful at all. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

This low-priced, entry-level, quality flatbed scanner includes Hewlett-Packard's Intelligent Scanning Technology and PrecisionScan software. The ScanJet 3200C has true 600 dpi optical scanning and 30-bit color depth for detailed scans with millions of vibrant colors.

Setting up the ScanJet 3200C was easy--we just followed the instructions on the setup poster. We plugged in the AC power supply, connected the parallel cable (included), turned on our PC, inserted the CD-ROM, and followed the HP setup wizard. After restarting our PC, we also installed Adobe PhotoDeluxe 2.0 and Caere OmniPage Pro (trial edition), which are included on the same CD-ROM.

To test the scanner, we started an image-editing application, selected the ScanJet 3200C as our source, and clicked the scan button. The HP PrecisionScan LT application started automatically, running in its own window, and displayed four easy steps for completing the scan. We followed each step as we scanned a magazine photo and exported it back to our image-editing application. The scan took 52 seconds and included unwanted moiré patterns (typical when scanning magazine photos). We were unable to find an option for filtering these unwanted patterns in the PrecisionScan software, but the scan was otherwise clear, bright, and true to the original. A similar scan of another color photo did not include the moiré patterns.

To test the OCR software, we placed a document on the scanner that contained both text and graphics. The text was white on a black background--a difficult test for many scanners. We started Microsoft Word and selected its Acquire Text command. The scan took 2.5 minutes, including OCR translation, and the result contained many typographical errors. The software also mistook much of the text for graphic elements. We repeated the scan with black text on a white background; the results were much better, but there were still several typographical errors.

Overall, the performance was fair and, considering the low price, we think the scanner did well.

Pros:

  • Great value at a low price
  • Easy to set up and use

Cons:

  • No software filters to reduce moiré patterns
  • Relatively large and bulky
  • OCR software is trial edition

5-0 out of 5 stars I Love it! Easy To Use... Professional Level Pictures.
I've used this HP scanner to add pizazz to the pages on several professional websites and I am delighted with it. It was the easiest to install... follow the simple directions. Comes with Adobe PhotoShopDeluxe 2.0 image editor which also does a great job... and va voom... I am "pasting up" photos and graphics to spice up my site... and zooming up a photo album to share the news with family and friends accross the world

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Scanner
I bought this scanner a while back and I just absolutly love it.. The color scan on it is one of the best I have seen for a long time. It does good for black and white also. It's a little slow when it's scanning but for the money and the quality it does a great job. Buy one today you can't go wrong with HP period.

4-0 out of 5 stars Slow, but reliable
This was my first scanner, and in my opinion, a very well designed one. I remember that I was up and scanning the first day I brought it home. It even worked with my old 486 long after I got a faster PC. I'll admit that it isn't fast, but if you are only going to do a little occasional scanning (such as for Ebay) it is just fine. It hums and it grinds- but it never failed me.
The only reason that I finally sold mine was, that the cable connectors (parallel port) weren't compatible with my new Gateway (USB).

4-0 out of 5 stars Perfect for my needs
After reading all the reviews on this product, I was not sure - until the store put this on clearance (newer models are out). It worked great the first day, then didn't the next ("cannot find scanner" message), but I contacted HP online and the next day got a help message. Since then it has given me no troubles. I realize if/when I ever update my computer, this will probably not work(I use Windows 98), but that seems to be the way with anything you buy nowadays - it is already outdated when you get it home. But for now, it does a great job and I am very pleased. (Still I wish it were "one touch", but that is the newer models.) Photo editing program seems to be okay-nothing great, though.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Scanner
This is a great high resolution scanner. I use this thing everyday and I have no problems with it. I love how the color and the hp scanning technology enhances your pictures which is definately a plus. Buy this scanner if you are using win. 98. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars I have to defend this printer!
After reading all of the bad reviews on here about this printer, I felt it necessary to voice my opinion, although I am not one to write reviews. I have had this printer since Dec. 2000 when it was top of the line from Dell. I have loved it and wouldn't trade it for the world. It does print slower, but I can always be guaranteed a perfect print everytime. I have printed many different size envelopes, papers and labels and all have come out perfect. I have not had to change the ink cartridges very often (I change about every 6 months) and I do alot of b/w copying. This printer is very easy to setup, use, calibrate, clean, monitor ink levels, etc. I have never had a problem.

1-0 out of 5 stars Good print quality - bad mechanism
I bought this printer new, when it was HPs top of the line. I have been very disappointed in it from day one.
The print quality is fine. The duplexer is a joke. It needs the bottom of the page to grip the paper, so it can not print on that area. The driver software gives you two options to deal with this - print everything at about 90% scale to squeeze the content into the printable space, or re-sort the pages allowing the SW to move the page breaks. Neither is appealing, so I found that I reverted to manual duplex mode - taking the paper out and reversing itself myself.
The biggest problem I have with the printer is frequent paper jams. Even when using HP brand multipurpose paper, I find that the printer jams about 25% of the time. In the quest for speed, the paper load mechanism is just too fast, pulling in many sheets of paper instead of just one.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good printer, but not state-of-the-art
I've had one of these for a year or two, and it performs competently with good quality output. The built-in duplexer is a nice feature rarely found on home inkjets and a real paper-saver. However, this line is long in the tooth now, and HP has a much more attractive line of printers at a lower cost.

1-0 out of 5 stars Lousy
This has to be the most horrible printer in the world. If I could give it -5 stars I would. I just got a new digital camera and of course just got this printer. Now when I print my photos it has blurred lines through it and is all messed up. Its print quality is horrible. It may be a bad printer - but HP is no help at all. They keep saying to install new drivers, when it is clearly a hardware problem. I want to throw this thing away, unfortunatly I got it on clearance and I'm stuck with it. Don't buy this pile of junk.

3-0 out of 5 stars Average
I bought this printer in hopes that it would be as good as my
Desk Jet 540.

It was not. My 540 lasted from 1993 to 1999.

My 990cse lasted from 1999 to 2002. It was making funny noises
and started leaking ink from the cartridge holder (spray nozzle).

Right now I own the HP 1200 Laser Jet. Get that one. Forget the 990cse.

Note: HP1200, This is only if you want black-and-white. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Camera
This is my first Digital Camera and I am very impressed. I took the camera to Europe for 6 weeks. It was easy to upload the pictures to my Laptop and email them to friends. I took over 225 pictures and only changed the rechargeable batteries once. When I got home, I printed some of the pictures using an HP 1215 printer and as I was told "They look like a Postcard." The camera was easy to use and I used all of the default settings. The zoom was great and it work like a point and shoot.

5-0 out of 5 stars The best camera for a beginner
This past summer I studied in Cuba for a month. Of course this is once in a lifetime opportunity, so I had to get a camera and it HAD to be digital. I've never owned my own camera before and already too many moments in my lifetime have gone by without ever being recorded. I also have a problem with getting myself to the store and going through the tedious and costly process of developing film.
So I went ahead and purchased the HP C615 model and it was probably one of the best purchases I ever made. I also purchased the 96 MB memory card which holds up to 360 photos at the lowest quality (which is better than some film cameras). It was well worth it. All of the other American students whom I met in Cuba, were envious of the fact that I could selectively view and delete my pictures through the camera. In comparing film pictures with mine of the exact same images the HP 615 won out every single time. So that's not a bad large investment compared to buying film, lugging it around and then waiting for it to be developed. Now all I carry is the camera and an extra set of batteries.
Of course this review wouldn't be objective if I didn't put one complaint in. My only complaint is that the viewfinder is not very well lit. It's actually pretty dull compared to some other cameras that I've taken pictures with. It also does not provide a very accurate width of the actual photo that gets processed. But since I realize the fault of the camera, I know its OK to cut off people's arms straggling on the edges of the viewfinder because the photo comes out perfectly trimmed. This does cause a problem for those one or two occasions when you have to rely on a waiter or passerby to take your own photo. They usually include too much of the surrounding area. But I found a way to get around that too; now I set the zoom and area for the innocent bystander.
The pictures I take are breathtaking!! The colors are scintillating, and the lucid ambiance palpable. If you're just starting out this is a great choice. People who now view my photos assume that I have some kind of talent or training, but I am honest and admit to them that it's really the camera.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent for pros or beginners
I bought this camera last summer (...). this camera is extremely better, and aside from what you read, it is an excellent camera for point and shoot. it comes with a users guide on your computer that is useful if you want to do more difficult and more proffesional kind of photography, or you can simply just shoot photos ease and without worry. the options are endless and the picture quality is great. here at college, i use the camera a lot and share the pictures with my friends on email. this camera is durable, simple, and overall a great buy. and its right in between the cheap digital camera, and an the expensive ones.

5-0 out of 5 stars Pentax optics and H-P electronics equals Great Value!
After extensive research into 2 and 3 megapixel cameras, I settled on the H-P C618xi (identical to the C618 except for included software). I was going to Europe for two weeks and wanted to give digital photography a serious workout. Boy, did I make the right choice!
The camera is worth much more than it costs, an idea supported somewhat by resell prices higher than what I paid for it new. It has tremendous versatility: Easy to use automatic features for carefree snapshots and excellent manual capabilities for greater artistic control.
I do professional work for feature and spot news stories. Over the last two or three months, I gradually have pared down the "film" equipment I keep with me until all I take along is the C618xi. The lower JPEG settings are great for newspapers, yet the highest rez TIFF images reproduce perfectly in 4-color glossy mags. Instead of a bulky kit, now I have only a small tote with a wrist strap, containing the camera, 4 spare AA's, a lens brush and CF memory cards. That will last me all day in just about any setting. If I'm doing a flash-heavy shoot, I carry along 4 extra AA's just in case.
This camera is not as power-hungry as some I've seen. However, any user will find that 1600mAH NiMH batteries are the way to go to keep the energy costs down. My personal recommendation is to go with Ray-O-Vac: Their AA's are the highest potency around and they make a great compact 1-hour charger that will charge 4 AA's at once (...).
For the amateur or the professional, I can't recommend this camera highly enough. I wouldn't part with it for anything.

5-0 out of 5 stars very nice camera
i was looking for a digital camera with at least 2 megapixels in a certain price range, and after careful consideration, i chose this one. its a great camera. one of the criticisms i've seen about this camera was the size: i don't find this a problem, and i've had camera with the opposite problem (elph lt, which was sometimes too small to put your hands around). It has some very nice features, including remote control, easy to use menus, usb extension for easy download onto your computer.

with the 16mb memory that comes with it, you can take 28 pictures of really good quality. I'm still getting used to being able to look at the pictures right away and deleting them/etc.

i highly recommend this camera! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars More than adequate, less than professional
I am wrriting this review to provide some clarification to some of the previous reviews. To this end, I'd like to clear up a few things:

1) If you want to copy the DVDs you rented at Blockbuster last night, that's all you. This device has the capability, but was never intended, to do this.

2) I personally know two people (other than myself) who have bought this product and none of the three of us have had any problems installing or using it. To accentuate this, I offer to you the oldest computers stats (mine):

AMD Athlon 1700+ (1.463 GHz)
Windows XP Professional w/ SP1
768 MB RAM
ATI 7500 64 MB Vidoe Card
USB 2.0 PCI board by Belkin

All three of us followed the installation instructions EXACTLY, step by step and never jumping ahead (it's only like 5 steps, anyway).

3) The video editing software will easily capture your video. For the simple purpose of copying old video camera movies to DVD, the software is way more than enough.

The software also provides you with literally hundreds of fade-in/fade-out, text, audio comentary, and graphics options if you wish to spice up your videos. There are enough tools to allow you to create near-professional level results.

The most beautiful thing about the software, though, is that it is very easy to use and learn. While it's not the best tool as far as file management goes, the interface itself is very comfortable feeling; options are well laid out, logical, and easy to toggle between.

There are a few improvements that could be made to the software suite, but considering this is 'lite' software, it is very good.

4) Did I mention that all these movies you have created can be burned to a DVD+R, DVD+RW, VCD, or just to your computer's hard drive?

5) Most DVD writers come with a disk for you to use, but this drive comes with a DVD+RW, wich allows you to experiment and erase, a very nice and USEFULL touch.

6) The digital to analog (DA) converter works very well. I have experienced no hickups or static from any source, including my VHS-C tapes when played directly from the video camera to the dc3000.

7) The HP DVD Movie Writer dc3000 can be used as a regular DVD+R / DVD+RW / CD-R / CD-RW drive for data purposes as well, not just for the video recording aspect.

OVERALL: While not a professional level product, the HP DVD Movie Writer dc3000 is perfect for everyone else, no matter how much effort you want to put into spicing up your videos or backing up your data.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great product that does what it says
Having read all of the reviews on this site, I was somewhat skeptical and anxious about buying the product (having tried and returned the similar Dazzle product about 2 1/2 years ago). However, I read all of the trouble-shooting hints at http://k0lee.com/dc3000/index.htm and made sure to follow all of the advice there (including the order in which to plug in the device to the PC and to the power source) BEFORE trying to burn anything. After all new drivers were downloaded, and settings adjusted, and screen savers disabled, it worked like a charm on my very first try, and I have been burning away making 2 hour DVDs of my 8mm tapes. The criticism of ShowBiz 2.0 seems justified (and it seems to have a 90 minute transfer limit, not 2 hours), but for straight tape-to-DVD transfer, the HP Transfer Wizard (which runs ShowBiz 2.0 in the background, without any user interface) was mindlessly easy, and created full 2-hour DVDs. I highly recommend it.

1-0 out of 5 stars HP DVD Movie Writer DC3000/4000
IT:s like this I purchased the dc 4000 about a week ago this is my 3rd one. But anyway i;ve had nothing but problems, with it ive spent 3days talking to tech support for about 3hrs eac time. Right now hp is doing research on it. to figure out he problem. But it appears to be a software issue. It does every thing but the main thing , which is burn the dvd . Al;so its its only compatible with the software the comes with it. so if it ever gets that fixed it might be ok. But i was very dissappointed with it and i expected better from hp

1-0 out of 5 stars caveat emptor
It took me 3 months to replace this product. Technical support is both time-consuming and worthless. Eventually had to talk with someone in the U.S. to resolve the problem. Hint: If you are frustrated with technical support then go to HP's website and contact somebody there. Replacement seems to be working for the time being. Last time I am purchasing anything from HP.

4-0 out of 5 stars Work first time I ran it
I hooked up my dc3000 without any problems to my PC. Probably because it is a HP a430n desktop. I burned tens of DVD's with the dc3000 alreday. Yesterday I attempted to convert a 1 hr 45 min VHS tape. The conversion went without a hitch. I used the bundled ArcSoft Biz 2.1 to edit, add text, transitions and background music to the converted movie. When it came to burning the finished edited movie, it took a relatively long time to decode the material. The other steps like multiplexing, etc. went fast. The finished product seemed to lose some video quality (definition). ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Pleased for the money.
I bought a new HP computer and along with it came this printer. I have used HP printers and I find them very reliable. They are very sturdy, easy to assemble, their ink cartridges are easy, and they have good tech support. You need to realize, however, that this is not a top of the line printer by all means. This is not for someone who does more than 4 print jobs a week. It is a very basic and simple printer. It prints out semi-slowly. I would say one page typed in 20 seconds and one page of color and type in 1 to 2 minutes. So it’s not very fast. It is pretty reliable with a few problems here and there that can be fixed if you are computer literate at all, or you can call tech support. The price is very cheap which is nice, but don't forget that the cartridges are $40+.... that’s what fools many. Overall I recommend this for simple and non-frequent users. If you use a printer on a more regular basis, look into the 810 series or 900 series....

4-0 out of 5 stars Couldn't be easier
I also bought this printer as part of a bundle (came with a scanner) at a pretty decent price, but not quite this low. I've been a geek for over 10 years now, so I'm pretty good ad judging cost vs. value when eyeing new peripherals. This printer is exactly what I expected it would be. Decent printing at a very reasonable price. The setup (including reboot) took about 3 minutes (USB) on my WinME system. All of the other computers on the network picked up the driver and were instantly able to print without having to install any additional drivers (except the Win2K machine, which I did have to download and install separately). I haven't had any bleedthrough with my paper, but I also have the printer set to print using "less ink" (printer properties). Anyone who purchases this printer will be using it for casual home use, so there's no reason not to. It saves a lot of ink! Don't expect photo quality from this printer (or any printer for this amount of money). If that's what you're buying it for, go look at the 900 series.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Printer, I love This One!!
I bought this printer a year ago and it's still going strong. This was my first time buying a product from HP. If you want a good printer for the home you can't go wrong with this printer. This printer prints both Text and Photos great. I have this printer hooked up to my Webtv and I love it. If you want this printer for a business or office I would recommend buying a more updated printer but this one is great for the home or for that collage student. I will deffently buy another HP printer when mine dies.

4-0 out of 5 stars Hewlett Packard DeskJet 648c Printer
a very good printer. very reliable. very good quality color printing.

3-0 out of 5 stars Average but cheap
For the money, don't expect much. The black ink printing is actually very good, and the printer prints very fast. It's the color where it runs into trouble. It prints deathly slow and the picture quality isn't so good. If you're looking for a standard, good blank ink printer with optional color, then I reccomend this. If you're looking for a good color printer move up and buy a more expensive printer. My last Epson color printer was excellent, and unfortunately, I moved from that to this. Don't get me wrong, its fine, but don't expect to be wowed by it. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good value
One of the cheaper scanners out there, the HP 2200C offers a no-frills solution if you want a scanner that gives you high resolution for a low price.

It has a nice, big scanning surface and works fairly quickly. One downer is that it comes with no cool editing software...just the necessary scanning and basic editing tools.

The pictures come out looking sharp, and the scanner is of a reasonable size. One problem I had with it was that my computer would randomly reboot as I was saving the scan image....a tech support call suggested that I eliminate all other programs while running the scanner to maximize my system resources. I did this, and haven't run into any more reboots...so far, that is.

A good product, but you can do a bit better if you spend 20 bucks more.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Great Unit for the price.
This is a easy to setup quick little scanner, not the smallest unit, certainly not the biggest. I find the software to be fine, and I dont even bother with Adobeshare as I save all my scans to a file rather than adobe share. Additionally the gentlemen from India is entirely wrong, you can easily save as any format from the scanner. All my files get saved as jpegs.

The best feature on this unit is the copier feature, on push of the button and the image goes right to my printer, and it looks awesome.......

I have ONE COMPLAINT. THe quality of the buttons in front of the machine WILL NOT stand up to heavy use. I dont use them you can activate the features via software... if you forget that HP got cheap on the buttons you will love this unit.

My granddaughter gave me her unused scanner, hp 2200c, but has lost the software. How do I find an installation disk? I'll be glad to purchase what's needed. Thanx, Bill

4-0 out of 5 stars Very nice scanner
I've owned this scanner for almost two years and has worked perfectly for everything I scan. Never a glitch. Unfortunately I'm now needing one that will scan negatives and slides as well. I wish they were as cheaply priced as this one was. For a first time user, you can't go wrong in buying this little workhorse.

3-0 out of 5 stars A few bugs to work out
This is a fairly cheap, good quality scanner. Mine, however, has one little problem: the little ribbon of wire that connects to the light bar often gets tangled when the light bar moves the full length of the tray (which it must do before "starting a new scan") . When it becomes tangled the light bar refuses to move and the motor makes a horrible sound. The only solution is to take it apart and untangle this jumple of wires. The images are otherwise high quality, just seems that the engineers were a little short sighted. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Absolutely the best
The photo scans are amazing. The scanner is also easy to use and set up. If you want amazing photo scans at a great price than I recomend the 4400cse.

3-0 out of 5 stars BETTER GET THE EXTENDED WARRANTY
I bought the scanjet 4400cse scanner 4 months ago. It just quit (conviently after the 3 month warranty expired, probably built in planned obsolescence). No mercy from HP.

It performed fairly well, except the IRIS OCR was [unsatisfactory]. I bought FineReader Pro 5.0 OCR, which works wonderfully.

5-0 out of 5 stars It's totally SCANTASTIC!
Hewlet Packard does a wonderful job of making photo hardware. I have their DeskJet 932C which is mind blowing, and their 4400Cse Scanner? Scan'tastic! It enlarges your photos beautifully to several times their normal size and has 48 Bit color and 1200x1200 DPI!

3-0 out of 5 stars Great at 300DPI or less, Above problems with Black
I'll probably end up taking this scanner back and trying to find another one to replace it with. Whenever I scan pictures that have a high black or dark content at anything above 300DPI, it scans two pairs of vertical stripes that are about two shades lighter than they should be. The stripes are about an inch apart from each other and about 4 inches from the edge.

I talked to HP support, which was great, but they had no solutions for me. I exchanged the scanner and the replacement had the same problem. Of course I tried all the basic things from HP, but to no availe. They are sending me an XP driver CD(since I upgraded during the time I was having the problems), to reinstall, but I don't think that will help at all and I will end up looking for another product.

I was very pleased witht he software and tech support though, too bad the hardware isn't living up to my expectations.

3-0 out of 5 stars A Basic Scanner for Basic Needs
My first choice was to get a HP ScanJet 7400C, the model I use at school. However, I thought the $500 price tag was too pricy for the light scanning I do at home (OCR, photos, artwork) so I settled with the HP ScanJet 4400. I expected to see similiar quality images, but I was disappointed with the results. At first, I thought it was my LCD monitor, but my CRT monitor showed the same thing- the photo images were a bit too red and grainy. Artwork also came out fuzzy. At max resolution scan, you get a so-so image. The OCR function isn't bad though. I scanned a not-so-crisp worksheet and it was able to decipher the majority of it without a problem. The software is minimal, and there isn't a hard copy manual. It is, however, easy to setup. Bottom line, it will do just fine if you're just looking for a basic scanner (but may leave you wishing that you'd tried the similiarly priced/featured Epson 1250) ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

Looking for a good basic scanner for home or small office use? The Hewlett-Packard ScanJet 6350Cxi professional scanner is a strong performer and is easy to set up, so you will be scanning in no time.

The ScanJet 6350Cxi is a solid basic scanner that more than adequately fills a useful range of needs. Setup and installation were quick, easy, and intuitive. The oversized quick installation poster was easy to read and simple to follow. If you want additional assistance, you will need to check the coach feature (part of the extensive online help system) or other online help, since the 6350Cxi doesn't include a printed user's guide. You can also use the internal coach to help scan your work after a quick but thorough tutorial. (It took us only 10 minutes to run through all the steps.)

In our tests, the scanner required a warm-up time of just under a minute and a half. After warm-up, we quickly reproduced flat images and slides using several different preset dpi settings. The scanner also has an automatic feeder for scanning multiple flat documents or images, which we found particularly useful. With the feeder attached, the scanner can handle up to five scans per minute. The slide adapter is a bit cumbersome, with too much leeway in the placement of the slide, but it produces vivid scans.

This is a fairly effortless scanner that can meet a wide range of needs. Whether paired with an ink-jet or laser printer, you will get crisp, clear scanned images. You can also be fax scans or attach them to an e-mail with the click of a button. --David Greenberger

Pros:

  • Fast, easy setup
  • Can handle a full range of originals

Cons:

  • Slide adapter is cumbersome

4-0 out of 5 stars It can be serviced & works for me!
HP doesn't want you inside the scanner changing bulbs and cleaning the underside of the glass - too difficult for the average user and you can damage beyond repair. Service is available through HP by contacting the HP Customer Care Center at 1-800-474-6836 But smoke, etc. is outside the focal range and does not affect the scan (I know, I smoke and that is mainly where it comes from)

RE bulb problems, I found my bulb was fine. If anythng goes wrong reset the scanner. Just power everything down, disconect the cables and power for 30 seconds. power up scanner (usb or scsi not conected) repeat 3 times, then a forth time with everything conected. Start up your computer and it all works. you may also have to check that your hpscnmgr.dll and hpscnmgr.hlp files are still in your wwindows system32 directory - if not, reload your software (available on the HP website)

I also had the paper feed problem, HP told me how to clear and clean it. Bottom line was HP service answered my email within an hour (as they usually do) and continued to work me through any problems. Those problems didn't occur until after almost 3 years .. as these things go that is pretty impressive.

BUT - I would like to have a larger flatbed (legal documents, etc.) and sugest that to anyone buying a scanner

1-0 out of 5 stars Troublesome, unreliable and unrepairable.
No problem with USB on Win98, Win98SE or Win2K. Software crashes regularly, cannot be uninstalled, won't work with Officejet 1150cse on same computer. Scanner plate glass came dirty on underside, not cleanable. HP support says this won't affect images but it does. Document feeder only worked once. Scan quality good except for dirty spots on scanner plate glass (top edge). Lamp failed after approximately 10 hours of use and is not replaceable (only used every few months). HP support is not helpful, web site difficult and little information on this model. Requires too much time to get working for busy office that only needs occasional scan. Other HP products have been excellent but very disappointed with this one.

5-0 out of 5 stars If you need to scan multi-page documents, get this scanner!
If you're like me, you probably have a number of handwritten and typed notes that you want to scan into your computer (along with a chaotic shoebox of pictures). This scanner has saved me so much time and it will save you time, also. Whereas every other scanner forces you to attend to the scanner to change EACH page, this scanner takes a bunch of pages and scans them in at once. Presto!

Then, using Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software, you can turn those typed notes into Microsoft Word documents you can edit yourself.

Need to get your documents scanned into your computer? Get this scanner!

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome Scanner
I've gone through 3 scanners- mostly because the resolution has gotten better over time. I added this scanner because of the page autofeed. This one feature alone is worth the price of the scanner. If you scan large documents, you push a button, and can walk away. You come back and the scanner has saved the pages to the hard drive! Its amazing. The scan quality is also superb.

4-0 out of 5 stars Fulfills its mission in workmanlike fashion
I happily used my HP Scanjet 4c SCSI scanner for years, but it was not going to be Win-2000 compatible without a cash infusion, and I needed a document feeder anyway. It would be more cost-effective to upgrade to a new scanner. Once again, I turned to HP, and they have not disappointed--though I have a few minor nits to pick.

The good news: setup and configuration were child's play under my Windows 2000 system--it's truly plug-and-play all the way. The scanner is solid and robust, and churns out the scans reliably. The ADF works quite well and is a major time-and-effort saver, especially for those like me who aren't able to locate the scanner to be within reach while seated at one's computer. The image quality is fine and the software included, Precision Scan 2.0, does its job.

The not-as-good-but-still-ok news: the software is not the easiest to use; it's a bit confusing when scanning either from the TWAIN applet or from within another application, having to switch back and forth to get the preliminary scan, crop it, and then obtain the "final" scan. More visible buttons and fewer menus to navigate would be the ticket here. Similarly, when you try to use the buttons on the front of the scanner to scan-to email, fax, print, file, etc, you have to navigate too many menus to get the job done. The slide adapter is so kludgy and imprecise as to be nearly useless, so if you are going to scan a bunch of slides there is a separate transparency adapter you will need lest you pull out your hair.

And the scanning platen looked like my 18 month-old's eating surface. There was dust and debris all over both sides of the glass, plainly visible in the glow of the scanning lamp. How much effect this has on the quality of one's scans I do not know, but HP should do a better job on this to be sure.

These objections do not detract from the basic function of the unit, making excellent quality scans, but there is room for improvement, hence the 4 star rating. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Borderless 4 x 6 Prints. Portable. No PC Required.
I had always wanted to get into digital photography; but my PC was old, and I didn't want to buy a new one! So when HP introduced their new PS 100 printer, which prints directly from a camera's memory card -- no PC required -- I dove in with both feet first!

I purchased this HP PS 100 printer -- along with an Olympus C-700 digital camera -- and I've been very happy. The PS 100 makes bold and beautiful 4" x 6" prints that are every bit as sharp as those from a full-size printer.

As an additional convenience, both my camera and printer use DPOF (digital print order format) which allows for one-button printing. I can crop (and select) the photos I want to print on the camera's rear LCD screen -- pop the camera's Smart Media card into the printer -- and then output borderless 4" x 6" photos just by hitting "print" (with no scrolling necessary to find the right shot, since the PS 100 always calls up the DPOF pictures first). What could be easier?

With the PS 100, printing photos is so simple -- I now find myself giving away pictures (as gifts) to friends and family (something I had done only on rare occasion before). I've even taken the PS 100 to family gatherings -- where I've handed out photos on the spot (which everyone thought was cool!).

The PS 100 uses familiar ink jet cartridges, and is much less expensive to purchase than competing photo printers from Canon, Olympus, and Sony (all of which use a much more expensive dye sublimation technology). The PS also prints a full-size 4" x 6" snapshot, (whereas the others, such as the Canon and the Olympus, make only prints that are quite a bit smaller). The PS 100 is also the only printer in the bunch to accommodate all of the major memory formats (Compact Flash, Smart Media and Memory Stick); something the other printers will do only with an additional PC card adapter.

(For those of you more advanced, printing from your PC is an available option with the printer's built in USB connection and supplied software on disc. The 4" x 6" paper size template also transfers over to other applications, like MS Word, enabling one to print documents from the PS 100 on to 4" x 6" note cards; which, for example, I've used to prepare notes for speeches.)

The HP PS 100 is the absolute easiest way to get into digital photo printing. And when the next family gathering rolls around -- you won't want to leave home without it!

5-0 out of 5 stars If you own a digital camera, you want this!
This little compact printer only does one thing (4x6 photos) and it does a fantastic job. My wife owns one of the older model HP digital cameras (C200), I believe we paid a few hundred for the camera about a year and a half ago and it was one of the most inexpensive mega-pixel models. I was skeptical that the pictures the demo unit produced may only be possible by higher dollar camera, but the photos this printer produces from my camera are still better quality than those of my two hundred dollar (non-digital) 35mm pictures developed at the local Kodak lab. To test for any bias I might have had my wife and I had three family members look though a photo album we made containing 35mm "developed" photos and photos printed from this printer... They all guessed the 35mm photos were the printed ones because the photos this printer produced were much better quality. Now, enoguh about the quality, which in the words of my brother in-law is "simply amazing".

The printer works stand-alone, plug your flash ROM in and you can jump to a specific picture number and print, the interface could not get any easier! You can also print prrof sheets (4x6 with multiple thumb-nail pictures). The bundled software allows you to take pictures off your hard drive and send them to the PhotoSmart 100 though the USB cable (cable isn't included unfortunately) USB is the only option for connection.

Printer includes 6 blank 4x6 photo sheets, and 1 cartridge (HP claims you can get 120 pictures out of a single ink jet cart, I've been told 100 is more realistic), paper is also priced reasonable. Overall you do save money, you have unsurpased convienence and the quality is excellent. There are few products I would recommend this highly; if you own a digital camera, buy a PhotoSmart 100!

5-0 out of 5 stars "Superb" results from such a small printer
I purchased this printer because I own two digital cameras and no computer to down load the pictures. After reading a mazagine I came across the ad for the Hp 100 but I was skeptical on purchasing it until I got some more info or reviews on the product. After researching Amazon.com and Cnet I decided to take a chance and purchase one. It took about five minutes to set it up. I printed a test page on the plain card included and then a thumb nail print from one of my compact flash cards and I wasn't Impressed with them. I Closed my eyes and proceeded to print my first picture, once the printer stopped I opened My eyes. I was shocked at the results they were very impressive, I kept looking at the picture trying to find flaws. I then printed a few more. I couldn't put the pictures down, it was like having your very own photo shop. None of my friends could tell that I printed the photos from a printer until I told them, it was that good! I highly recommend this printer for anyone that has a digital camera. It's light an compact excepts three different types of cards with multi voltage so you can take it anywhere and it also connects to your computer. I'm glad I did my home work and took that chance on purchasing this superb little printer.

2-0 out of 5 stars initially look awesome. but it fades over time.
love the compactness and stylish look of this printer.
initial quality of the print out is comparable to regular photo prints or perhaps even better. compact flash drive built in is absolutely convinient.

However... after putting print picture on my friz door for 2 month. skin tone color has changed to completely green and other colors faded to dark purple. it wasn't exposed to direct sunlight neither. other pictures all suffered discoloration after 2 month. even the ones that were kept well in a frame. it was all printed on premiere papers that came with the printer.

is this the limitation of inkjet technology everyone already aknowledged prior to purchasing? or am I the only one suffering from discolorization and fade?

4-0 out of 5 stars Produces great pictures, but be careful about handling them
The picture quality is supreme, and no complaints about the printer overall, except for the ink door, which won't stay shut.

The photopaper used on this printer, however, can be easily damaged, so care must be taken on handling it after your pictures are printed. Perhaps I'll find a 3rd party paper, or HP will improve theirs. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Horrific Macintosh Support
Avoid this scanner if you own a Macintosh. The scanning hardware is quite good, but the software is truly awful.

As near as I can tell, it is largely incompatible with MacOS X 10.3 at any functional level. TWAIN scanning into Photoshop CS is not functional. The "HP Director" software barely works, it is often unsuccessful attempting to launch other applications to do its bidding, especially when trying to set preferences.

Using the copy machine functionality to scan and print, doesn't appear to work with my HP printer, as the scanning software complains about the image being too wide (before it even starts scanning) which isn't the case.

I'm still trying to get it to reliably scan a document without "surprises" and I haven't even looked at the other features.

I'm a power user, and know my way around OS X.

The HP software is horrific.

4-0 out of 5 stars No complaints
I have used the 4570C intensively for over a year and have had no problems whatsoever. Why there are so many complaints about the software is a mystery to me. It takes ten minutes to install and off you go. The only problem I've encountered is that when you scan a photo from a book but have scanner set to slides (which I also scan), you get lots of horizontal lines until you fix the problem. The troubleshooting technique in manual resolves this issue, irksome though it may be, in just a few minutes. My picture files take up about 14 gigabytes on my hard drive so you know I have been using the 4570 intensively. I would buy another one for my lab but Best Buy quit selling them.

1-0 out of 5 stars Truly terrible software undermines decent hardware
I've had the same experiences that many others report. My scanner cosst, well, let's say multiply the number of your fingers and toes by two. Even at that prc-point, this product is a disaster.

The good news: The hardware is solid. You can return it easily. HP support is ok but bureaucratic, given that they have to work within the limits of the product.

The bad news: I've NEVER seen such bad software (and I've used a lot). As others have noted: It's slow, very buggy, and gets quite confused about what's happening with the scanner. And there are too many little apps--in all, lots of complexity and little sophistication. But the biggest problem is that its design completely ignores the variety of workflows you might have for scanning different docs in different contexts. Rather than making scanning efficient, you might begin to suspect that HP was intentionally trying to waste your time. Why else would they release such software? This is a plea to HP: Please, please give your software development much higher priority. Look at the Apple iLife apps for usability experience ideas (I say this even though I'm using Windows). If you need to, divert money from your advertising to software development. It'll be money well spent towards keeping your reputation alive.

Specific example problems: Scan settings appear to be arbitrarily remembered by the various programs. Data transfer among the multiple programs is at best unreliable--after doing multiple hi-res slide scans to save time I've had the terrible "HP Director" appplication just crash before handing off the files to the "HP Photo & Imaging Gallery". Poof--all the scans are lost (I can't even find the temp files...and of course where they're stored isn't documented). Resetting default scan values doesn't seem to take. The "HP Scanning" application (there are too many small apps installed) seems to constantly lose track of whether the lamp's warmed up or not--even after it's been on for an hour! The "HP Photo & Imaging Gallery" is incredibly slow--it seems to constantly and needlessly recreate thumbnails of large scan files. (It's slow using version 2.0 of the scanner software on a 1GHz XP machine.) Frequently it'll display two thumbnails for the same file, or no thumbnail for a file you just scanned. And it freezes. And the selection of tools is uneven: zoom but no hand to move around images (scroll bars only). And, and, ... . HP, please partner up with a company that has stable existing software, such as ACDSee's image viewer.

I can't imagine what it's like working at HP these days handling tech support for this product. My sympathies to HP tech support.

2-0 out of 5 stars How can a company stay in business peddling this crap?
I got one of these as a Christmas gift and have spent the last 3 hours trying to get the software to work. Does anyone test this software before it's released to the consumer? There is some kind of bug that keeps telling me that I need to insert a disk in order to scan an image or document. Happens for the HP software and any third pary such as Photoshop. I'm in the middle of downloading some 6 or 7 patch files that are supposed to fix this and several other problems. However, I doubt it will remove all the other crap tacked on to the installation such as the HP support and product registration software.

HP has a scan tool on their WWW site that is supposed to tell you what updates or patches you need and the 4570c is listed as a supported device. The tool tells me that it cannot find any supported devices attached and wants me to check the USB connection. Windows found it as soon as the power was turned on.

Speaking of power, I had to make a trip to Wal-Mart and get a power strip just for this scanner. The power supply is about as large as a family-size bar of soap.

If this wasn't a gift I would take it back for a refund. I can't recomend any other scanners. Maybe this one will be worth the time once the software problems are corrected.

1-0 out of 5 stars Buy another scanner
Scanning quality is fine but software is based on the premise that you are a first-time windows user and do not know what a pixel is. It practically renders scanner unusable. Wish I could return it. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Digital Camera for the Price Anywhere
I love this camera. It's by far the best value in a digital camera. I spent ages comparing features and prices. It has better resolution and zoom - 2.1 MP, 3 X optical and 4 X digital than cameras manufactured by the well-known camera companies, and for about half the price. The auto-focus, red eye eliminator etc. work very well. Out of the 400 shots I took the first three days I had the camera, only 3 were underexposed. The camera can take good, clear pictures of very small objects (12 X zoom, distant objects, interior, exterior. The silent movie option also works well. My only beef is that the batteries supplied with the camera only allowed me to shoot and upload about 400 pictures. So I recommend buying rechargables. This has replaced my older Cannon Eos Rebel.

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't Come Anywhere Near This Worthless Camera!!!!
Okay, so my birthday was a week ago ...My family knew I really wanted a digital camera, so they decided to pick the HP PS620 for me ...Just looking at the box told me that this was nothing to get excited about. Only 2 Megapixels? 3x optical zoom? That's it?

Yeah, I was polite and thankful upon getting it as a gift, but I'll defenitely be returning it with a speed!

Before you ever turn on the camera, you'll already be unimpressed. The camera feels very light and plastic-ish. Weighing in at a mere .46 pounds, this thing feels more like a children's toy than a real $200 digital camera.

Then you start taking pictures ...Anyone who has ever had a digital camera before will immediately notice the lack of features and options, and the picture quality can easily be obtained (surpassed, even??) with a much cheaper 35mm. There really isn't any special features or advanced options to speak of, and the photographer's creative control is extremely restricted. There is not even a Sepia or Black & White Mode to speak of, so any such editing of your pictures will have to be done on your computer, in a Photoshop program for example.

Many things that a serious photographer would like to have control over will be absent. The white balance, ISO, and the shutter speed cannot be controlled, they are all automatic! This becomes very frustrating.

There is also a "movie" mode, but I believe it is actually refered to as a "motion image" or "motion JPEG" or something. This is because you can't record the video with audio.

So really, the best thing to do is never, ever, ever buy this camera for yourself, or loved ones on their birthdays, either. Serious photographers will find absolutely NO significant controls to take charge over, feeling very restricted. The camera is simply too simple for them. Folks new to digital cameras will find themselves satisfied for now, but in a few months when they begin learning more and more about digital cams they will already be ready for an upgrade. So even for amateurs, the camera is not worth the price.

I recomend instead the Sony Cybershot P10. It does cost a bit more money, but new digital photographers will find a lot of options and controls at their disposal. Even though there's a bit more to learn with that camera, no one should be intimidated by it. Sony has made a very easily-accessible camera in the P10.

For even more advanced photographers, the Nikon Coolpix 5700 is an excellent 5.0 megapixel camera, with even yet more advanced features than the Sony P10.

Both of these cameras will make any photographer, amateurs and serious ones, very happy ...the price is a little higher, but anyone willing to give either a try will realize that the price is definitely worth it.

And as for this worthless camera? Anyone could eventually find that this simplified, point-and-shoot camera is hardly worth $200. I wouldn't pay one red cent for this thing.

2-0 out of 5 stars Mine is defective
My camera has a problem where a lot of times, the picture breaks and disaligns, and I get a garbled picture. Does anyone have an idea of what to do???

4-0 out of 5 stars Nice Camera for the Price
This is a nice camera for its price (...).
3x Optical Zoom is good, but don't expect anything from digital zoom. There isn't much memory, though (You need an SD Card), and onboard memory only stores 7 photos at top resolution.

4-0 out of 5 stars Near perfect
This camera would be perfect if it had an automatic lens closing device...the lens cap that is attached with a little cord is always falling off! It is a real pain to keep checking it and putting it back on again...I feel it is only a matter of time before I damage the lens...wish I knew of some way to protect it. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

If you're looking for a fast CD-rewritable drive with an excellent software bundle, Hewlett-Packard offers its CD-Writer Plus 9210e. This 8x/4x/32x drive may be a bit pricier than similar drives, but if you need a portable SCSI drive you can't do much better.

Since the drive uses a SCSI interface, you'll need a SCSI controller card and cable, which unfortunately are not included with this package. If you don't have a SCSI system and don't have any desire to transport the drive, you might be better off with a less expensive internal EIDE model. But if you're SCSI ready and want to hot-swap the drive between systems, it's an excellent option.

With a SCSI card preinstalled, the drive hookup was simple: we ran the installation program, set the drive to the SCSI number recommended, plugged it in, and rebooted our computer. SCSI is the fastest way to handle an external drive (and often internal as well), and we were pleased at how fast this drive wrote data. We filled a 650 MB CD in about 10 minutes on a Celeron 300 MHz system.

The CD-Writer Plus also features a nice software bundle. In addition to Adaptec's standard write software, Direct CD and Easy CD Creator, the drive ships with HP Disaster Recovery (for restoring your system after a crash) as well as Neato's CD Labeler to create your own CD labels.

Another nice feature of a SCSI drive is its easy portability. Just unplug the cable and carry this drive to wherever you need it. It's not particularly compact (the drive alone weighs almost five pounds), but it's much easier than swapping out an internal drive.

A SCSI drive isn't the easiest to configure, and we would have liked to see more installation and troubleshooting information than Hewlett-Packard offered in the thin manual and short setup guide. But if you know your way around SCSI peripherals, the CD-Writer Plus won't be a problem--and you'll enjoy its speed and versatility. --J. Curtis

Amazon.com Review

The HP ScanJet 6300Cse is a good basic scanner for home or small officeuse. As with all the Hewlett-Packard scanners, it's extremely easy to set up,and you can set it up and start scanning in no time at all.

Setup and softwareinstallation were quick, easy, and intuitive. The oversized installationguidelines are easy to read and simple to follow (although reading them is ascumbersome as wrestling with a full-size road map in the car). If you wantadditional assistance, you will need to check the electronic owner's manualstored on the CD-ROM, since no printed owner's manual is included. The novicecan benefit from using the online coach, which guides you through basic tasksand will have you producing work after a quick and thorough tutorial (10 minuteswas all it took for us to run through the steps).

With a warm-up time of justunder a minute and a half, the scanner is soon ready to reproduce flat imagesand slides. The slide adapter is a bit cumbersome, with too much leeway in theplacement of the slide, though the scans it produced were vivid. Scanner buttonsallow you to scan an image (which is then displayed on screen via the driversoftware), or use a number of other features. The printer button essentiallyfunctions as a copier; just press it once to scan and print. Scanned images canalso be easily faxed or attached to an e-mail.

This is a relatively effortlessscanner to use, and a good basic model that can meet a wide range of needs. Itis an especially good choice for home use. Solutions to most problems can beeither intuited or solved with the guide. We were pleased with the crisp imageswe obtained on both an ink-jet and a laser printer. --David Greenberger

1-0 out of 5 stars WHAT A WASTE OF MONEY
This scanner was a great disappointment. It never worked for one moment fresh out of the box! As you can't return it to the store you are reduced to immediately spending more money on a long distance phone call to get a replacement. Not a new one that is. Just someone else's rebuilt problem. The buttons didn't work on the replacement! Help was only another long distance call away, and we all know how long it can take to be the 'next person in line'. Finally, the third unit arrived. Yet another rebuilt piece of garbage with dirt and cloudy streaks on the inside of the glass! Makes for nice looking scanned images!
So, $x spent + phone calls + 2 replacements = 1 useless unit. Never will I waste money on any HP item again! *-5 Stars* is more like it!

2-0 out of 5 stars unstable
Here are various comments I have about this scanner, which I've owned for over two years.

- not-too-bad results for color photos, especially for web use.

- the film/slide-adapter contraption that it comes with is practically useless. The reflector inside is hazy, and since it is made of cheap plastic, it broke when I tried to use it. The lighting on the resulting images is waay off and the over all quality is pretty bad.

- ScanJet software that it comes with isn't too friendly, but it's ok after you get used to it.

- scanning anything over 300dpi is much slower than expected

- this machine is LOUD!

Well just last night, the scanner literally burnt up and died on me when I connected it to another computer. I'm not sure what exactly happened, but when I ran a test scan, the light burnt out and the slider choked as it tried to scan..leaving a pretty nasty burnt odor in the room for a while...

1-0 out of 5 stars A total nightmare
This has to be one of the worst products that HP has produced. I bought this in tandem with the Photosmart 1315. BIG MISTAKE! Not only are both products off the market, but HP offers no assistance what-so-ever. If you pay them $... they will assist you. What a rip-off! I'll never purchase a HP product again.

1-0 out of 5 stars After 9 months it quit!
One star for working nine months but now the scanner died on me. HP is replacing it and in the meantime I'm using a CanoScan N124OU that works perfectly. Look around and you won't see any HP ScanJet 6300s being sold. Too many problems after a while...

5-0 out of 5 stars Not just for Windows® users anymore
An important point lost in the editorial reviews and technical details is that this device has, in fact, been made Mac compatible by the release of a whole series of Mac drivers. When I bought mine, the product was sold as a "Windows 98 only" device, but since then HP has added compatability with most versions of Windows and every version of Mac OS from 8.6 to 9.x. OS X compatability is still not a reality, but HP can be forgiven this; many USB products aren't currently compatible with OS X.

I'm not sure if these new Mac drivers are now included in the standard packaging. If not, they can be ordered for a nominal fee (what amounts to little more than a shipping charge) from HP. Updates can then be obtained by download from the HP website.

There are some pieces of in-the-box software which are NOT Mac compatible, and which HP makes no attempt to make available to the Windows-impaired. Most users will not be inconvenienced by this, however, as they are minor, third-party releases that provide functionality Mac users probably already have.

The Mac drivers, in their latest version, seem to be as good or better than the Windows originals. In fact, I found that the front buttons on the scanner seemed to work a lot better on my Mac than my Windows-based machine. I often found in Windows that sometimes the buttons stop working at all, and I had to reboot. I've had no such problems with the Mac drivers.

Beyond the issue of Mac compatability, the scanner itself has yet to seriously disappoint me. The slide adapter is a little bit of a joke, and it does take acres of time to scan at really high resolutions, but most users will see this as a serious upgrade to their imaging capabilities.

If you want a scanner that's appropriate for all professional work (save, perhaps, print photographic editing at extremely high resolutions), this strikes a nice balance between features and price. Web masters, in particular, will need little more than this scanner. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Almost perfect
This little printer is perfect for trips. It is compact and light. It has a very good resolutions in b&w and in color too. It has two disadvantages, the first one is you can't use any kind of paper (look technical information) and the second is you have to change ink cartdriges for print in color and b&w. But it has a very good characteristic against other portable printers, it can support both 110 or 220 volts, without buying any additional product. As I said, it is perfect for trips, domestic and international.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good little printer
I have the standard DeskJet 340, w/o the infrared adapter. While not very speedy, the printer produces really excellent printed pages. It's kind of a hassle to have to change ink cartridges to print in color vs. b/w, but I guess that's what you get in a printer this small. If you just use the printer w/o the sheet feeder, this thing in pretty darn portable. I wish I had the I/R option - carrying a 3ft printer cable in my laptop bag is not too cool. Over all, a good, reliable printer in a very portable package. ... Read more
