I purchased this camera on sale with the free accessory kit (case, NiMH batteries and charger) for fewer than 100 clams here on Amazon. I also picked up a new HP 8881 docking station on ebay for 30 clams and a 128MB-memory card for 35 clams (after rebate) at Dell. So, you can get into great digital for not a lot of money. This camera is an outstanding value and a rock solid performer. I highly recommend it for people who want to take great pictures without the added cost of advanced features. All you need is the camera initially to get started. From there you can decide if you want to add more accessories. PS TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE FREE ACCESSORY KIT OFFER, YOU WILL NOT FIND ANYTHING CLOSE TO THIS VALUE AT THE TIME OF THIS POSTING! THIS IS A HIGH QUALITY HP PRODUCT! UPDATE- I did have to upgrade my camera's firmware to support the 128MB SD-RAM cards. HP sent me a free 16MB SD-RAM card for the upgrade process (you need a SD-RAM card to facilitate the procedure). The process worked well and I'm now enjoying my fully functional 128MB card!

Features Reviews (2)
Prior to purchasing the HP 995ck, I owned an Epson Stylus Color 800 Inkjet printer. It was the top rated Inkjet printer discussed in several computer magazine reviews at the time. I was looking to replace it with a unit of comparable quality and capacity. My requirements were as follows: A) Excellent text and graphics printing on plain paper - Graphics being defined as pages printed from the internet or downloaded magazine articles which are then printed for later reading, perhaps with graphs, charts, etc. B) An ink cartridge life of approximately 1000 pages, and reasonable printing speed. C) Relatively low cost per page expense. D) A full-featured Ethernet connection that would operate just like my HP 4050TN Laser printer, which has a built-in Ethernet connection. I have a home office with four computers and wanted everyone to be able to use both printers without my computer needing to be on to print. E) A well built unit mechanically, which would stand up to occasional office use for a long time without parts falling off. F) A printer capable of good photo printing, but top quality photos were not needed. The HP 995ck was the best choice among 15 printers that I evaluated or read about. There are many Inkjets available for less than the $249.00 that I paid for this one, but in one respect or another they didn't cut it for me. Many of the low cost Inkjets appeared to be made very cheaply, using plastic parts in some spots that look like they may not last very long. Even the other HP low cost printers looked to me a bit flimsy, particularly the paper tray components. I suppose for $99.00 I shouldn't be so picky. The other area I found to be a problem was getting a printer with a Network connection without having to buy a third party print server box. In many cases, these units do not work correctly with every printer and my research shows that in the reverse direction (that is when the printer sends status information back to the computer), they do not work at all. The 175x is bidirectional with most HP printers, however before making a purchase, check out the HP website for a list of compatible units. The 995ck comes standard with a USB connection. The HP 995ck is cost effective with ink, with an average cost per page of about 5 cents. It has optional high capacity ink cartridges if you want them, and they are not that expensive (relative to other models). The other nice thing about the ink cartridges is that they have built in ink nozzles, so when you replace the ink cartridge you are also replacing the nozzle. Some printers made by other companies do not have an option for the user to replace the ink nozzle. The user would, in the case of ink nozzle failure, just buy a whole new printer. The printing quality of the 995ck is excellent for both text and graphics, even on plain copy paper, and it prints quite a bit faster than my old Epson. As far as the build quality of this unit, I consider it better than most of the lower cost Inkjet units, including those made by HP. It does have plastic parts but they appear to be more solid than other units I looked at. The 175x Jet Direct print server is an external print server, housed in a small box with the footprint of a 3x5 index card, and costs about $159.00. It turns the 995ck and some other HP inkjets into full-featured network printers. (NOTE - check the HP website for a compatible printer list and network capabilities). This allows the owner to share the printer with others on the network. It also allows you to locate the printer up to 100 feet away from the computer. It comes with a Installation wizard which worked quite well, although you may wind up calling HP's technical support if you are not that familiar which setting up networks. I am very pleased with the 995ck although I have only had it for a short time. In other review articles on the web, when they discuss this printer, the focus was always on the Bluetooth connection. I have no interest in this feature and simply turned it off. One of the control panels has a button to shut it the Blue tooth connection down, if you don't need it. A well known consumer magazine recently reviewed some Inkjet printers and liked this one too. Highly Recommended. Bobzt

The out of box experience was very good. Plugged in the power, inserted the ink carts, and connected it to my router with a CAT5 cable. The first time it is powered on with the ink carts installed it goes through a configuration that takes 2 or 3 minutes. After that, the printer easily found an IP address using DHCP. Installation of the software from the included CD was equally smooth on both of my Win XP Pro pcs, the software found the printer and was ready to use within a couple minutes. Best of all, the duplex accessory from my old 930C also fits the 5850, saving the expense of having to buy a new one. Print quality is very good, and is quicker than my 930C. Picture quality is much better and that is with the normal tri-color cartridge, I have not yet tested using the photo cart. Overall, I am extremely happy with this printer, it is a very nice upgrade from my previous inkjet and just the thing for those of us needing to easily share a printer on a small network.
Apple uses the incredibly easy to use networking protocol Rendezvous, which in theory doesn't need any driver installed (or perhaps the driver is installed by Apple in the OS, and this one is not, yet.) At least that's my limited knowledge and experience with Rendezvous using an HP 4600 Color Laser at my work location. Just plug the ethernet cable into the printer and there it is in the Add Printer box. However, this printer required me not only to install a driver, but then follow a complicated set up procedure, plugging in a network cable, turning on/off the printer. When that didn't work, I had to restart the computer; finally, I reinstallled the software, and then it worked. This is rediculous. This is exactly the reason I do not use the Windows OS. Perhaps I do not know enough about wireless connectivity, and this may be the only way to set up a wireless printer to work with an 802 network. If true, then I appologize to Windows users and HP. If this is as easy as it gets, then there needs to be more thought put into the install process, because it sure wasn't easy at all. Second, the printer is pretty loud. It runs like an Epson inkjet that this is replacing. When you go to print, there is an inordinate amount of clacking, and the paper feed is part of the problem. Fortunately, the printer does work wirelessly, which is the only reason I will keep this. And I like the paper feed in front of the printer, as opposed to on top like Epson made in the past. Perhaps after working with this printer for a few weeks I will up my rating, but for now, this gets 3 stars.
My configuration: Dell Inspiron laptop (Pentium II, 366Mhz, 128M memory, Windows XP); Netgear G router; Netgear G wireless adapter card; Motorola cable modem. I couldn't even run the installation program on my computer. The first screen of the install wizard comes up on the screen but when I click "next", nothing happens. I had to call India so they could manually walk me through the installation process. Well, we got the printer "installed" but it's FAR from problem free... Printer prints sporatically. Even now and then it will print a one page document but if I want to print another document I have to turn off my router, turn off the printer, turn off the computer and then turn everything back on in the same order. Then, sometimes, the printer will accept a print job. Longer documents won't print at all. HP's customer service is NO HELP whatsoever. I see from other reviews that some people have no problems at all with the installation. To them I say, bravo. But if you're like me (and a few other disgruntled reviewers) and have problems with the installation, give it up, return the printer and get something more reliable. I like HP but this wireless printer isn't yet ready for prime time. If this problem isn't fixed by the end of the day, I'm returned the printer and buying a regular (i.e., reliable) printer and a wireless print server. What a waste of my time this printer has been. Save yourself the trouble.

Amazon.com Product Description The DeskJet 3650 has a single USB port for connecting to your PC or Mac, and comes with separate Windows and Mac reference guides and set-up posters. The HP DeskJet 3550 is backed by a one-year warranty on parts and labor. What's in the Box Features Reviews (17)
I have not put the 3650 through any longevity tests, but installation, performance, and quality are superb. I ran into zero problems installing it on an XP Pro SP-1 PC, and didn't run into any problems sharing the printer over a LAN. I did run into an annoyance: Also whenever the printer attempts to clear the print head, it would blow out a huge wad of ink onto the pad on the left side of the printer. Each HP #27 cartridge is only 10mL (the BJC-4000's BC-20 was 22mL and would last me approximately 1000-1500 pages at draft quality text) so each drop that it wastes costs me a few dozen pages. You must install the drivers FIRST before connecting the printer to your PC via USB. I've tested this printer on my Dell Inspiron 8100 laptop and my self-built AMD XP 2100+ PC. Both use Windows XP Pro. The printer also works flawlessly over a LAN. After several weeks of testing I'd like to add the "X" button on the printer is a true godsend - it's for cancelling print jobs. Rather than going to the Control Panel to manually cancel a job, hitting that button stops the job and clears it from the queue w/o any problems over a LAN. Also if you print over a LAN and the printer is OFF, it will turn on by itself. This is a big plus because I don't always have the luxury of working at the PC where the printer is physically installed. The only complaints I have is that the paper loading mechanism sounds like someone banging on plastic pots and pans - it's very very loud!! Also it tends to gobble ink cartridge fluid rather quickly but it prints faster than the HP Laserjet V I have at work, and with the quality set at NORMAL or FastNormal, it rivals that of laser printers. Overall I give it 5 stars out of 5 - if you know how to properly install USB devices on PCs then you'll get it to work. I wouldn't recommend installing it on an older PC that isn't running Windows 2000 or XP. UPDATE: After using it for a longer period of time, I did in fact notice that the small ink cartridge capacity limits its maximum time for operation in an office environment. The cost is not an issue since I found a bulk supplier of ink refills that would save me a bundle. What was important was the ease of changing cartridges (pull the lid and the cartridge holder comes into changing position) and the quality of printing w/ non-standard ink. Make sure you clean the cartridge if you start to see lines in the print out. I noticed a strip of dried ink on the head unit and cleaned that off with some water and a tissue. Overall the printer is STILL exceeding my expectations. My impression of this printer:

Amazon.com Product Description You can select images for printing from thumbnails provided on the HP photo proof sheets which can be generated without hook-up to a computer. Other convenient features include a 2 line text LCD on the top panel of the printer for assisted task navigation, a one touch save-to-PC button, and a front panel USB port for plug and play connection to your laptop. Print speeds are variable, depending on the speed/quality mode selected, and range from up to 12 ppm for black printing (Fast Draft mode) to approximately 116 seconds for a 4-by-6-inch photo print (Best mode). Print speeds can be increased with the addition of the optional HP no. 56 black print cartridge. The PhotoSmart 7660 handles a wide range of media types and sizes, and comes with a dedicated 20-sheet 4-by-6-inch photo paper tray plus a 100-sheet standard media input tray to easily handle all your everyday printing. An optional duplexing accessory is available separately to enhance paper handling even further. The PhotoSmart 7660 comes with just about everything you'll need to get started (USB cable not included), and is backed by a one-year warranty. What's in the Box Features Reviews (15)
I have a 2 year old printer at home printing digital photos at 2400x1200 dpi. I printed the same photo on both my old printer and the hp 7660 at max resolution and wow the colors in the hp printer are more vivid and accurate. The photo felt more life like, similar to film prints. The draw backs are you can not refill the ink cartridges, and you have to switch between black and the photo cartridges. It is slow printing text pages compared to a dual roll printer like a deskjet. In summary if you want a great photo printer at a reasonable price this one is it, if you want to print say 24 page documents all the time buy another printer. This was designed to be a photo printer, not a document printer.
I returned the printer the next day to Circuit City, even though it cost me a 15% restocking fee. They were selling old stock, with out-dated drivers.
I printed color photo's, back & white photo's, and documents and I'm pleased with every print so far. I purchased the black & white print cartridge and the photo's look clean, crisp and equal to the quality from a photo lab. If you do any black & white work get the catridge, you'll be happy you did. I bought both HP photo paper and Kodak premium photo paper and I'm happy with both although the HP photo paper seemed to have a higher luster and is a bit heavier. I like the seperate 4x6 paper tray on the printer - easy to use. As a photographer I like the convenience of this printer. I can view and edit my photo's in Adobe Photoshop 7 and have great quality prints up to 8.5x11 in almost an instant. Not sure how long the printer cartidges last yet. I bought several just in case they run out fast. I'm keeping close track of my usage so I can figure out the cost per print. I'll try to post some info on that subject at a later date. In the mean time I know I made a wise choice selecting an HP Photosmart printer.

Amazon.com Product Description Optics and Resolution The 318 uses a 2-megapixel sensor that captures enough detail for crisp 8-by-10-inch prints. For the typical family photographer, 2 megapixels is a great balance between price and performance. If you typically make poster-sized prints or crop the edges off your photos to improve the composition, you'll want a higher-resolution model, but if you simply point and shoot, 2 megapixels is ample. While many cameras in this price range use a simple and inexpensive focus-free or fixed-focus lens, the 318 uses a true autofocus system, resulting in sharper photos under more shooting situations. Lens aperture ranges from f2.8 to f8, and the camera will focus on objects as close as 8 inches from the lens. A 2x digital telephoto zoom is among the camera's features, but remember that digital zoom tends to reduce the sharpness and detail of your image, so it's best used sparingly. To compose your images, either use the traditional camera viewfinder or the 1.75-inch LCD display (which is also used to review the shots you've taken). Having both types of viewfinders offers the best of both worlds: if you're used to using a film camera or want to conserve battery life, use the viewfinder. If you want to see exactly the picture you'll be capturing, use the LCD display. More Features The PhotoSmart 318 is clearly designed for point-and-shooters who think simplicity is more important than having a huge assortment of advanced features. Photo quality is adjustable, there's a self-timer, and the flash can be switched on, off, or set to red-eye reduction, but otherwise, the camera automatically sets everything. Power Four AA batteries provide power, and a set of alkaline batteries is included. Like virtually all digital cameras, the 318 can exhaust a set of alkaline batteries in no time, which is why we recommend lithium or rechargeable batteries instead. If you use the camera once a month or less, lithium AA batteries are a logical idea, since they'll hold their charge for years when sitting in an unused camera. If you use the camera more often, then the lithium batteries don't make economic or environmental sense--we recommend getting a set or two of rechargeable nickel metal hydride (NiMH) batteries and a charger. To ensure you'll always be ready for action, keep one set in the camera and the other set in the charger. In a pinch, you can use alkaline batteries, but we recommend turning off the LCD display in this case to extend the battery life as much as possible. Storage and Transfer In an effort to keep costs down, HP ships the 612 with 8 MB of internal memory instead of a removable memory card. This solution has its pros and cons. It's less expensive, and you never have to worry about leaving the memory card at home (the digital equivalent of forgetting the film), but it also means you need to install HP's software and USB cable on your computer to transfer images because you can't use a dedicated card reader. The 8 MB of internal memory holds approximately 20 images at the camera's default settings. Though the internal memory is reusable, it does limit the number of pictures you can take before you need to return to your computer to transfer your photos. For more capacity, you'll need to add more memory. Fortunately, the camera comes with a slot for standard CompactFlash memory cards. Size At 4.5 by 2.7 by 1.7 inches and 8 ounces, the 318 is relatively compact, making it easy to bring along in a purse or pocket. Contents and Recommended Accessories The package includes the camera, USB cable, CD with drivers and HP photo software, four AA alkaline batteries, wrist strap, and camera user guide. Everything you need to get started is included in the box, but we recommend these accessories to make the most of your camera: a carrying case, a set of NiMH rechargeable size AA batteries, and a higher-capacity SmartMedia memory card. Compatible accessories for this camera are listed near the top of this page. --Shane Burnett Pros: Cons: Features Reviews (39)
I did upgrade to a Nikon Coolpix 880 within a few months of buying the camera so if you are an intermediate photographer you'll probably not want to start here. Still I won't sell mine as it is a great backup camera. For most novice's I'd recommend it.
It's a great buy and a great camera. If you're new to digital photography, you won't find this camera difficult to use and will be amazed with its clarity and easy-to-use advanced features. I have had no problem with back-lighting or finding the pictures too dark in quality, as some people have commented upon. Also pleasantly surprising is the sturdiness of the unit. I've been using it since January 2002 and have used it more times than I can count. Being a motorcycle enthusiast, I've packed it into saddle bags, which subjects it to considerable vibration, and it still performs flawlessly; have had amateurs borrow it (sometimes without me even knowing it); let it (unknowingly) sit outside on our patio table one damp night in August; and have packed it in luggage bumping across some of the worst roads in Pennsylvania only to use it and have no problems at all. Like most digital cameras, this one is not easy on batteries-- which is why I purchased two rechargeable sets and take the charger with me when I travel. But I also figure that the cost of AA batteries is considerably easier on the wallet than say a gallon of gasoline or paying to have traditional film developed these days, and continue to use my sweet little HP 318 non-stop. As of now, I have hundreds of photographs permanently recorded, and those memories of family are precious. As an information technology professional, I would not hesitate to recommend this to even the most technologically-challenged person. Hey, even my mom, who is in her 70s, has used it successfully, and to this day, she still can't operate her VCR or upgrade her anti-virus program without help. I think that's 'nuff said about this camera.

The HP 145 really helps make the "digital darkroom" a reality, even during trips. I take mine on my boat together with a small laptop computer, and can generate high-quality 4 x 6 photos right on the spot, after taking shots with various digital cameras. The HP 145 has a built-in CF card reader and also reads various other popular media and you can easily print directly from the CF card or other media even without the laptop too--the printer will print out a nice little thumbnail "index" showing little minatures of the photos each bearing an index number. You can then select and print the full photo. This also means that you don't need to bring a card reader along if you have your HP 145 since it functions as a digital media reader. Typically I will download my digital photos to my notebook computer's hard disk using my HP 145, view the photos on the notebook screen for printing, and then print selected photos with the HP 145. Great fun! My HP 145 installed effortlessly on my IBM Thinkpad notebook computer (IBM TP 600E) running Windows XP, and is now my main printer for 4 x 6 photos and of course is the only printer I take along on trips. It is great fun to go on trips, take photos, and then give friends nicely framed photos the next day, or later the same day. Frankly, I never realized how much fun it was to have a printer along on trips. Most printers nowadays are big and bulky. This one is not. I went with the 145 rather than the 245, the latter being the same printer but with an LCD color display. I decided that I wouldn't get 50 bucks worth of value out of the LCD display since a) I always bring my laptop along anyway since that is where I always download my CF card pictures to for storage on trips (that way you can re-use the CF card the next day); and b) the 145 has that neat index printing feature anyway, if you want to print without a computer. You decide. Either way, these are dandy little printers and I will likely never take another trip without bringing my HP 145 along. That is the hallmark of a truly useful product!

Amazon.com Product Description Print 10 pages per minute in black, 11 pages per minute in color. Print fast, laser-quality black text at 17 ppm with an optional HP 56 black inkjet print cartridge. Print directly from your digital camera memory cards using convenient card slots--without using a computer. Or, simply connect your HP digital camera with direct-printing capability to the front USB port, then print your photos (also without using a computer). Should you want to, you can easily save photos to your PC and print borderless photos using the 4-by-6-inch photo paper tray and HP premium plus photo paper. Photos from the 7350 resist fading twice as long as most traditionally processed photos, up to 65 years (requires premium photo plus paper and six-ink color printing with the included HP 58 photo inkjet print cartridge). Other features include a save-to-PC button, HP Memories disc-creator software, auto paper-type sensing, an ink backup printing mode (which completes the print job if the cartridge runs out), a convenient 20-sheet 4-by-6-inch photo tray, and a 100-sheet, 8.5-by-11-inch paper tray. An optional two-sided printing accessory (C8955A#A2L) is supported. What's in the Box Features Reviews (45)
The unit comes with 57(color) and 58(photo) cartridges that are about 1/3 full. If you want to use this as a regular ink jet as well, you'll have to buy a #56 black ink cartridge. It also comes with a few sheets of glossy photo paper to get you started. The photos that come out of this printer look as though they were professional printed, with high resolution (of course, the resolution of your digital camera has a lot to do with this) and a clean look. The printing itself is rather slow, especially if you are used to a laser printer as I am, but the results are well worth it. I highly recommend this printer to anyone with a digital camera. You won't regret it.
The prints I have made from my digital camera are fantastic. I have printed out both 4x6 and 8x10. Many of the people who have seen my prints from the 7350 couldn't tell that they were from a digital camera. The setup is very easy. I had it connected to my PC and running in less than 5 minutes. The photo software that comes with the printer is very good. It is easy to use but also has a lot of more advanced features. The printer isn't perfect. The 7350 holds 2 print cartridges, one for the tricolor cartridge and one for the photo or black cartridge. The printer comes with a tricolor and photo, but no black. I print out non-photo documents as much as photos, so it is a bit of a hassle to have to switch the black and photo cartridges. Another issue is the size of the printer. The 7350 is considerably larger than my previous HP color inkjets and takes up a lot of desk space. If you have a crowded desk, I'd measure first to be sure you have the space. Overall I am very happy with my purchase and the photo prints look great.

Amazon.com Product Description The Hewlett-Packard 8220e CD-Writer comes with a one-year warranty. Features Reviews (57)
The burner works GREAT!! The HP Software disc 1 cd, kept freezing up (3 little words Ctrl. Alt. Del.) I also needed to download the updated version of Record Now & Dla for the 8200 series on HP's website. Had to go to the Control Panel, Change the Power Schemes in Power management Properties set all to Never & Shutdown all running programs except Explorer & I must shutdown and reboot after a complete burn or the next burn will freeze up & walla a successful burn! I have now started using NeroMix software at Nero.com and bingo, no problemo. So guess what caused the missing star, out of a rating of 5 stars!
Linux is just out of the question. While the drive was detected and installed automatically under Fedora Core 2, you simply cannot burn data to a USB-connected CDRW drive. From what I read on a Linux FAQ, USB cd-burning has yet to be implemented. So, for those of you looking for a cheap solution for CD authoring with Linux, this isn't it. When this unit works, it's great. When this unit fails to work, expect to lose some hair trying to fix everything. USB is great, but it isn't for CD burning. Stick with an internal drive.
This writer is so easy to use! Plug and burn on. I use MusicMatch Jukebox (instead of the supplied software) and have had a 99.5% success rate in the over three years I have had it. I have never had to call tech support and only wish I would have waited until the price came down.
