5-0 out of 5 stars Great looks, optics, value, flexibility
In addition to all the other comments here, the HP C618 has a couple of very appealing features:

- Traditional Pentax "retro" appearance, more resolution than most people need, very nice onscreen menus, unique IR blasting features, automatic lens cover, and picture quality is light-years better than my last camera (especially on outdoor shots). The default 16mb card stores 100 800x600 images or 29 1600x1200 images at "better quality"

- PC Connect mode simulates a generic hard disk to both Macs and Win2K (no software or adapters needed for to connect to an average PC, plug it in using any standard USB printer cable)

- Scripting language is very useful, I downloaded several free scripts and documentation from the ... site and had them copied to flash in minutes...I've since written a couple of scripts, including one for "bracketing" shots (takes multiple pictures with various exposure or zoom levels)

On the flip side, you'll need to accept that...

- The battery drain is significant at times...I found some AA couldn't provide enough oomph when the camera what shooting (especially several shots in a row). The includes AA Photo Lithium batteries were flawless and provided 200 shots with a high percentage of flash shots, screen usage, and USB connections. I plan on trying Radio Shack NMH rechargables as people suggest

- The flash is too bright on indoor shots less than ~5 feet...as others suggested, I've taped some tissue over the flash and sometimes also have to reduce the exposure setting to get a good shot in these cases. If you're doing eBay or inventory work you'll need to set up other sources of light. and disable the camera flash.

- There was not as much software included for Macintosh computers...just some generic image editing tools (the ... site claims to have a free software download for Macs but the link is broken and you end up getting their software for an older HP camera). I honestly don't think this is a big deal, as the connections to my Mac are so easy in USB drive mode I'd just assume not clutter up my disk with stuff I wouldn't use.

I love this camera...originally I'd thought I'd wanted the cute little Canon ELPH S100 but the HP has better optics, value, and customization using the scripting language. I also was very impressed with the Kodak 3400 (this was a close call but the asthetics, scripting, 3x zoom, and USB drive emulation on the HP won me over)

2-0 out of 5 stars This is a great camera!
This camera is so easy to use, and it takes great pictures. I put off buying a digital camera for a long time. Too complicated, I thought. Too much to learn, it'll be a hassle to use with the computer. But our business required that we advance and go digital. When it came, I was apprehensive. But within minute's of reading through the basic operation's manual, I was snapping pic's around the house! Wow, I thought! What took me so long?! It's very user-friendly, it feels and fits well into your hand, is light-weight & has a large view window. I like that it's a marriage of both HP and Pentax technologies. Both companies that I know and trust. It come's with an infra-red remote to snap shots, but I found this a little tricky to use as you have to get it pointed at the camera just right in order to triger a shot. The automatic timer works better. There was one clitch however. It was draining the batteries over night. I called HP and they somewhat hinted that, yes, that was a little problem with a few of them. But it was no problem at all to swap it for another new one with either Amazon, or HP. I'm glad we opted to try again and not choose another brand. The 2nd. one has a much longer battery life (week's), and we use it a lot. If this is to be your first digital camera, I'd recommend you also order an extra flash card, extra set of rechargable batteries and a re-charger, and a card-reader. I like the "SanDisk" reader. It's simple and easy to use. So figure on spending at least another $100.00 on accessories. For a mid-range digital camera, in my opinion, this one can't be beat.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Camera for the Price
I have had this camera for about a year and I love it. All in all we have taken about 2000 pictures with it and we love the b/w, color, or sepia option. I have taken some really beautiful pictures that are worthy of being framed and out on the wall. I have noticed the battery problem but that is easily fixed by getting rechargeable batteries and putting the quality on good (you still get great pictures). I would say that we can take 125-150 straight shots with the rechargeable batteries. I have not had to talk to HP tech support so I can't comment on that. We did take this camera to Hawaii and got about 400 absolutely great pictures. I also found that it is incredibly easy to download and email my pictures. Once they are downloaded I email them to friends/family or I burn them onto a CD for people as a photo album, it saves a ton of money. I think a lot of the problems that other reviewers have run into have less to do with the actually camera as it does with either tech support, or technology problems with their computers. If you follow the setup instructions, this camera is very easy to use on the computer and a lot of fun to take pictures with.

1-0 out of 5 stars not worth the effort
The camera took great pictures, but downloading from it to the computer would not work. I had to buy a card reader. Battery life was very short. The camera circuit board blew in less than 18 months and would cost $250 to fix, making it worthless. I'll never buy another HP camera.

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't buy it!
I bought this camera more than a year ago. I'd rate it 5 stars except that I had the following problem: The door of my battery compartment got broken! The problem looks silly enough, but upon calling HP they "simply" told me that my product is 'out-of-warranty' and they don't service it anymore. Even worse, they offered a trade up with a newer model. After checking the prices for the newer models, it turned out that they're buying back my camera for less! All the service centers that I could find on their websites told me that they don't service digital cameras (not only mine). So here I am with a great camera that's totally useless because of a broken plastic part and a lousy customer service. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars HP does not reply to problems
I purchased a HP2000C printer April 1999 for home use for [price]. It had fine quality print. I three weeks ago said I needed to replace the black print head and I did and it still did not work and replace the other 3 print heads total [price]and it still does not work. I have [price]in ink cartridges not used so I asked for help from HP three days ago and have not heard of thing. Prior to that I used as much a Cannon 600e and it is still in operation, gave it to my Dad, and never had to do anything with it. I recently ordered a Epson C80 for [price]less Epson rebate of [price]and I bet it last longer. I suggest Epson or Cannon.

5-0 out of 5 stars Easy set up
The most difficult thing about setting up this printer was taking it out of the box. HP has done a great job making it simple and easy to use.

4-0 out of 5 stars HP 2200 SE - Good Printer
I've been using my HP 2200 SE for abount 9 months and had no problems. Paper pick-up (fan the paper for best results) and drivers work fine. The printer works faster on the "best" quality print mode with Windows ME. Everything works OK on Windows XP - but the "best" quality print mode is a lot slower. "Normal" print mode is very adequate for pictures (or anything else) and its speed is acceptable. The "draft" mode is fast - but don't expect pictures to be very great.

I have used the HP 2200SE on Pentium (200) (with Windows ME); Pentium II (400) (with WIndows ME); Pentium 4 (1.4 gHz) (with WIndows ME and upgraded to WIndows XP); Pentium 4 (1.8 gHz) (with WIndows XP).

This printer uses HP no. 11 ink cartridges (one for each color) and Hp no. 10 for black. Also note that as of 12/7/2001 this web site does not carry HP no. 11 cartridges. But, you can get them elsewhere.

On a normal day I print photos on high quality photo paper as well as normal (everyday) paper with good results. Light weight card stock (business card stock) works OK - but if you go to a heavier paper the HP 2200SE begins to have problems.

If the printer needs to be replaced under warranty they over night a refurbished printer to you. BUT - my experience with HP refurbished printers is not so great (I had to return 2 refurbished printers - and the one I finally accepted has its own (shall we say) personallity. The return was with a HP 2000 printer after about 2 years of service.

Overall the HP 2200SE printer, I have, is a good printer and a refinement of the HP 2000CSE printer. I'll probably be buying an additional HP 2200SE in the next month.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very, very good printer
I own the HP Business Inkjet 2200se for almost a whole year and never had trouble with it. I have been using it on my PII-266 with Windows 2000 and it always worked well. I like this printer because it's very fast, the cost per page is very low (you will be surprised if you use it!!!!) and the print quality is excellent!!! I would recommend it to every one who wants a really good printer and can not or doesn't want to pay for a Color Laser. Buy it!

1-0 out of 5 stars THIS PRINTER IS A DOG!
I purchased and installed this printer in my home office. The installation was done by my wife who is employed installing hardware and software. In short, the printer drivers in this printer are defective. As a result, although I could, occasionally, print a new document, it was impossible to print any existing documents. An e-mail to Hewlett Packard Technical Support was met with a nice, computer generated response telling me they would get back to me in two days.

But, who on earth can wait two days without being able to print? Two days, to most businesses, is an eternity.

If you're a small business person or anyone considering this product, run the other way as fast as you can. You will waste lots of time trying to make this machine do what you purchased it to do, PRINT! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars solid printer for everday use
this printer holds up well for normal, everyday use-- i mostly use it for academic work, and its held up well for the past 2 years (paper jams have been rare). color printing with the hp 825c isn't the best quality, but digital pictures come out moderately well on photo quality paper-- i've framed photos printed by the hp 825c and, unless they're looking closely, people haven't really noticed any difference from my regularly developed photos. overall, the hp 825c is a decent printer, well-priced for student use.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Printer!!! Cheap!!! Perfect for students!!!
I bought my 825c printer for a really good price, about half the average cost of printers. The best thing about the deal is that it even included ink cartridges! (Which ironically cost the same price as the printer itself)

Over the years, it has been a great, hassle-free, beautiful looking printer, and has graciously accepted ink refills (instead of having to buy more of those outlandishly expensive printer cartridges).

Of course, the occasional printer jam is inevitable for all printers, but those have been minimal for me. Surely the quality is nowhere near photo quality, but for reports and papers, it works just fine.

My hp 825c is one of my best purchases since I got to college.

1-0 out of 5 stars Constant paper jams
I had no expectations for print quality with a printer at this price, but expected something that worked. EVERY attempt to print either jammed the printer or ripped the paper. I attempted to print with newly opened reams ranging from low end generic copy paper to Epson photo paper with consistent results. If you do decide to buy, 1) ensure the store will accept returns, and 2) be prepared to pay return shipping.

1-0 out of 5 stars limitations of color printing
This printer works great for almost any application, but do not expect to print on special paper. On even the soft gloss paper, the ink blobs and gives poor quality printing. The color photos print better on regular paper than on photo or special finish paper. NOT RECOMMENDED FOR PHOTO PRINTING, you will be disappointed.

3-0 out of 5 stars Solid light-use printer
HP has made a solid printer for light home use in the 825c.

HP based this bargain printer on the bones of the sturdy, albeit older, 800 series. This is a real advantage, because you take advantage of HP's paid-for tooling on a formerly higher-priced series. You get a printer that's more solidly built than comparable entry-level printers, but the tradeoff is that you don't get the latest printing technology advances. This printer is best for printing text and light graphics. It prints photos, as well, although probably not as well as a printer with the latest technologies.

The 825c is easy to install -- I had it running in minutes on my decrepit, 1997-vintage, Windows 98 PC. Its paper delivery system is sure and straight. Text is crisp. Colors are adequate.

I expect that this little printer will outlast not only my current PC, but my next one as well. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars No 32 MB SD card on 735XI camera - liars!!
I also bought this camera. It did not come with a 32MB SD card. This will be my last Amazon purchase. I bought it because the "32 MB SD card included" was in the features description.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good product, don't order from Amazon.com
I have had no problems with the camera this far, only Amazon.com's error in my shipment. Be very wary - Amazon.com DID NOT include the 32MB SD card!!! The only reason I ordered the 735XI model was because it came with that card, however I wasted money because I did not receive it. Featuring a CCD sensor with 2.1 million effective pixels, the Photosmart 320 creates images up to 1,600 x 1,200 pixels and prints up to 8 by 10 inches. Like with many other entry-level digital models, HP keeps the price low by using a focus-free lens with no optical zoom. A 4x digital zoom does bring your shooting subject closer like an optical zoom, but at the expense of image detail.

Storage and Transfer
Store photos using the 8 MB internal memory. The Photosmart 320 also features a Secure Digital slot for optional SD memory cards.

Movie Mode
In addition to taking still photos, the Photosmart 320 can also record silent movie clips of up to 30 seconds at a frame rate of 15 fps. The QuickTime Motion JPEG format offers a limited resolution, which is great for capturing a short movie that can be e-mailed to friends and family, but is no replacement for a true camcorder.

More Features
With the included HP Photosmart 8881 digital camera dock (which includes four rechargeable NiMH batteries), you can connect easily to your PC or TV, plus recharge your camera batteries.

You can easily print photos directly from your camera to an optional HP Photosmart, HP PSC 950 all in one, or HP Deskjet (excludes 600 series) printer with USB connectivity--no PC required.

Other features include:

  • Built-in flash with red-eye reduction.
  • 1.5-inch backlit LCD display for preview and review of photos, battery levels, photo counter, and flash modes.
  • 10-second timer

Power, Size, and Contents
The camera is powered by four standard AA batteries. We recommend a set of rechargeable NiMH batteries. It measures 4.4 by 1.7 by 2.7 inches and weighs 5.6 ounces. This package includes the Photosmart 320 digital camera, four AA alkaline batteries, USB cable, hand strap, and CD-ROM with HP Photo & Imaging software and USB drivers for Windows and Mac. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Good if you're on a tight budget
I'm on a really tight budget, so I went with this camera since the price was right. I would recommend getting a more powerful camera if you want the photos to look good. I had to buy a $70 memory card to add to this camera because you can only take 8 photos at a time. There is an option that use can use lower resolution (1 star is the worst- never use this setting, because it is terribly grainy and you can't tell what is in the photo; 2 stars is also very bad; the highest is the 3 stars, and this setting takes decent photos). This camera is not as good as I thought it would be, but you get what you pay for. The pictures often come up with bad quality, but you can't really help that. If you can, buy a better camera because the resolution isn't that good.

What is good about this camera? It is easy to use, and it has a window in which you can preview the photo. It is also easy to use and user friendly. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A FAST AND RELIABLE INKJET FOR HIGH VOLUME PRINTS
I work in an engineering firm and we use for our A4 color prints both a color laser ( xerox phaser 6250 ) and the HP 3000.
We have the 3000 since two years and we have printed around 80000 pages without troubles, except for an input tray which had to be substituted.
The 3000 is very fast ( even if not so much while printing on hp special papers ) and everybody appreciate both the reliability while printing and the network installation which has been absolutely trouble free.
I love it since I can print ACAD files ( covers of our papers ) and JPEG photos without thinking whether this time the driver will work well or not, whether I'll have a paper jam or the ink will smuggle.
I have had only some troubles with some HP photo papers ( it smuggled ) , whereas with HP brochure papers it works perfectly.
On the contrary the xerox 6250, which costs much much more than the HP 3000, even if it incredibly fast and the laser quality is better than inkjet for printing graphs and chart bars, is not very appreciated since it has great problems with the PCL driver, it has much more paper jams and the cost of the
consumables is extremely higher. We also have a HP 2600 which is a very poor product.
If you need a fast and reliable inkjet for high volume prints go in a network environment, I think you'll be very happy with it.

1-0 out of 5 stars POOR POOR Product
I have to say, I have been a loyal HP fan, and I picked this printer to replace my old 2000 model, which I loved. I wanted a HIGH capacity ink machine, that would do color printing without the constant cartridge change of less professional models. This printer (my second one) is nothing but an albatross. It has never worked right from day one. The first one, which was exchanged for this new one, was defective, shook the table apart and never was able to get going. The new one is worse. The on off button does not work until it feels like it, it jams paper, it bands the colors completely missing some spots of color, it is WAY too noisy, it prints in jerking steps and comes out of the machine in jerks, print quality is somewhat grainy, nothing like the quality I have come to expect from HP printers. I have an emergency $29.00 HP models Inkjet 3520 that has FAR superior print ability. Shame on HP! POOR POOR design. I am still awaiting a return for this one! I would recommend you DO NOT get this machine, as it is a dinosaur.

5-0 out of 5 stars I love it.
This printer works great for me. I find the quality is good enough for me to use draft mode for printing fliers. The printer has great print quality (for a non-Photo printer) and is exceptionally fast. There are four separate print cartriges which have remtoe print heads to printing is relatively econominal. One thing to note is that the printer senses when the print cartrige is empty and will stop printing. This isn't a problem for me, but it might be for people tring to refill cartriges or who want to stretch the print cartriges to the end. Also, the printer can get pricey if you purchase bundled with the duplexor and the print server options.

1-0 out of 5 stars Lasted about a year
HP really put out a dud with this model. Unless you use the super expensive HP branded paper, the ink will smudge..even after a week. Also, constant jams and bent edges. Local HP Authorized repair place unable to fix it. Printer is very loud (fans and paper path mechanisms). I will give it credit for having nice print quality, but I would not purchcase this unit ever again. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Grainy image
I can't resist writing a review, because I rely heavily on what others have to say too.

I just bought the 1115 and it's being returned today. I've had an Epson Photostylus 870 for the past couple of years and had a little ink mis-hap (my fault) and thought, what the heck I'll get a new printer figuring the technology has improved, etc. This time I decided to go with an HP because I generally like their products, but I'm going back to an Epson.

The quality of photo prints are not even comparable. The Epson prints are clear, crisp and realistic. The HP prints (even at 2400dpi) are grainy and fuzzy.

Not to mention that ever since I installed the printer (using USB) my floppy disk drive has been grinding every few minutes. Not sure what's up with that.

I will say that the HP is fast and fairly quiet. Printing regular documents on paper of course looks nice, but for "real" photo images try Epson.

Good luck!

4-0 out of 5 stars HP workhorse
Great Printer, but does get a bit cranky at times. The 2 side print capability is a plus, saving paper & making printouts more compact. Does a 4 + job on photos, but hard to use the small photo tray. I've used this printer for approx 2 years and just now feel it may be time to upgrade. I feel I made a good choice for my photos.

5-0 out of 5 stars Nice
Great printer! Fast and awesome color printing!

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent printer, excellent prints!
Although most people say the prints are grainy, I disagree. I recently purchased this printer, and got some Kodak Ultima Premium High-Gloss, Heavy Weight photo paper, and I have to say, the picture quality is INCREDIBLE! I tried printing photos with low gloss, lightweight paper, and I will say that the quality was somewhat comparable to my old Canon BJC-2100. If you get the right photo paper for this baby, though, it can print some excellent photos at a fraction of the cost for some super high-end models with DPI resolutions beyond what we really need. If you stick these photos in a picture frams, you can't even tell the difference between real photos and photos printed with this thing. All in all, I think it is well worth the money.

4-0 out of 5 stars Love the printer-hate having to chase paper
I love this printer - my only complaint is that it shoots the paper out - you would think they could have a decent paper tray
instead of shooting my still damp photos across the room. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars HP #57 ink cartridge
I just purchased the HP photosmart 100 printer which prints out 4" by 6" size prints. The printer takes the HP #57 cartridge and the photo quality results are great. You would even say that they match the quality of a professional lab. I have already printed well over 50 prints and have not needed to change the cartridge. The colors and skin tones are right on and the glossy HP PHOTO PAPER makes all the differance. Also two of my friends, after seeing my photos, have also bought the HP photosamart printer. Another great feature feature of the printer is you do not need a pc to support it, it directlly accepts smart media, compact flash and sony memory stick. I know this sounds like a review for the printer but lets not forget without the HP #57 color cartrige you have no photos.

Driving home to the farm last Thursday I wrecked my buggy in the ditch. Being stranded in the woods I started getting hungry.

2-0 out of 5 stars runs out way to fast
I opribnt maybe 40 pictures and it runs out. At twenty six bucaroonies. That's a lot of money/ picture. I found out Costco will print pictures while you wait for Nineteen pennies a fraction of the copst.

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome!
I just bought a new HP PSC 1210 All-in-one, and printed 4x6 photos on the free sample premium plus glossy photo paper, after installing the HP 57 tri color cartridge. The result? Astonishing!! There's no way anyone can tell that the photograph is a computer printout and not developed on kodak paper.

True, developing 4x6 can be as low as a quarter per print at some places, making this scheme uneconomical, but I'd highly recommend this for printing larger photos. (5x7, 8x10).

3-0 out of 5 stars The pictures are great, the ink cost is high
I use HP 57 and HP 58 cartridges for 6-ink photo printing on my HP PSC 2210 multifunction machine. The photos look great on HP premium photo paper, just like the ones from my local 1-hour photo center. However, after 20 pages (about 60 4*6 photos), the HP 58 cartridge is gone, and there is only about 1/4 left on the HP 57 cartridge. This is killing me. I will just use the local photo lab from now on :-( ... Read more
