4-0 out of 5 stars great pictures, so far.
I just recently bought this camera at a Targe store and have only had it for a short time. I just recieved my first role of pictures from it and they were great! The only bad thing I have encountered is that the shutter speed is not that fast. For the price I think the pictures are excellent! I especially liked the pictures I took when standing a couple of feet away but using the zoom for a close up. I bought this camera to take picture of my kids, so I didn't want one too expensive or big to carry around in my purse. So far, so good!

4-0 out of 5 stars Best value in its class
I'm an experienced hobby photographer who's spent many years helping people select the best camera for their needs.
This is an unusually good one for most people's needs.
The difference between a great camera and merely a very good one is versatility -
and versatility is achieved by striking a good balance between capability (features), ease of use (automation) and choice
(manual overrides for when the automation makes a bad decision, which they all do from time to time).
This model strikes a very good balance, and offers an unusually good lens - key to great picture quality - in this price class .

Pro's - 1) Unusually high quality lens, both in terms of construction (aspheric lens elements) and materials (ED glass),
makes for very high quality pictures across the entire zoom range. 2) Stepless zoom - most cameras in this class "step",
that is, they restrict you to a handfull of pre-determined points in the zoom range. So instead of, say, a "38-120" lens

as advertised, you actually have a "38, 50, 70, 90, 120" on these other cameras (Canon, Minolta, and many others).
The Stylus lets you zoom to any point in its range, which makes it easier to frame your picture accurately. 3) Multi-zone
metering detects and automatically corrects for backlight (putting the sun in the picture won't ruin your shot). 4) Spot
metering option let's you tell the camera that you want to concentrate on a small area (your friend's face) under difficult

lighting conditions. 5) Focus lock let's you focus on your subject and then reframe (your friend's face again, next to the
small tree in the foreground - you want your friend in focus, not the tree). 6) Flash modes for just about every conceivable
need in a point and shoot camera. 7) Relatively high shutter speeds for a lens-shutter camera (1/630 second vs 1/400 or so on
some other makes) 8) Advanced flash control adds the right amount of flash when needed, not too much, not too little
9) Small, lightweight, reasonably rugged, weather-resistant, clearly laid out controls, clamshell design protects lens when
closed.

Cons - 1) Zoom range doesn't go truly wide - you won't get a large group in without backing up. This is common to almost all
point and shoot cameras - most people will buy a longer lens rather than a wider one, thinking that "bigger is better". For
people who would rather get the group shot, or that shoot indoors a lot, try the Stylus 100 Wide, which has a true wide
angle lens in it (28-100mm instead of 38-120mm). 2) Clamshell design can develop problems with the electrical contacts (but
other designs can develop problems with their lens covers, so
you're trading one for another here, in my experience). 3) Red-eye reduction is oversold - they all have it, but it's more
annoying than effective. To avoid red-eye, have your subject look just to the side, not right at the camera.

In short, as a "second" camera for the enthusiast, or a "main" camera for the mainstream user, this one's hard to beat.
For the record, I have no relationship with any company or person in the industry.

1-0 out of 5 stars Film will not load!
We registered for this camera on our bridal registry and we actually received two cameras at my bridal shower. However, after spending over an hour trying to load the film, I gave up and went to Target to get help. The electronics clerk also could not get the film loaded for the longest time and finally he did something (he doesn't know what) and it loaded. We followed the directions over and over again but the film was so tricky to load that it isn't worth the hassle! We even opened up the other camera I had received in case the first one was defective, and that one would also not load the film. I still don't know how to do it and we returned both cameras and chose a different one. We were taking this camera on our honeymoon and we didn't want to risk getting stuck on the cruise with a camera that would only load film at random. For a brand new item, this was not high quality. Shop carefully!

3-0 out of 5 stars Good for a while
This camera has sharp pictures, ease of use, and a good zoom. However, it suffers from a design flaw. To turn the camera on or off, you must slide the lens cover to one side. This design is fragile and thus vulnerable to breaking. We have fixed it once within the first year of use. Recently, it broke again. Fixing it again is more than it is worth, especially given that such a repair would only be temporary. Instead, we are looking for a new camera--one with a traditional (and sturdier) on/off switch. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Simple to use
This camera is perfect for family picnic's, get together's and around the house use. I especially like the fact that is has the date on each picture, although, you have to check to make sure the correct date date is shown. The camera is easy to load, flashes automatically and easy to zoom. Plus it is small enough to carry in a pocket, purse, or backpack. Also perfect for baby showers.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great basic camera
Even though digital cameras are all the rage these days -- and I myself have three of them! -- sometimes you do want to use a film camera, especially when you can't carry an AC adapter with you, or don't want to shell out lots of money for extra batteries, to power your digital camera. Also, ISO/ASA 100 film or slower still gives you the best clarity outside of the negative and professional realms.

This Olympus camera is a great basic film camera -- and it's a terrific value at less than sixty bux. It has the following features that I consider essential on every camera:

-- auto focus. Some very low-end cameras (but this is not a low-end camera!) only have "focus free", which means there's no focus in the lens. Olympus' auto-focus and auto-exposure systems work very well.

-- zoom. Of course, this being a film camera means the zoom is optical. It's only 2x, but if you want more zoom you'll have to pay for it. (The Pentax IQ 145M does provide 4x zoom for under 100 bux, but that camera is also bigger in size.)

-- date imprint. I'm one of those anal types who must document every picture I take. Being able to print the date, while irksome to some people, is a must for me. With a digital camera the photo file has a digital stamp which Windows XP can read (date, time, camera used, size, resolution, image quality, etc.). With a film camera, "quartz date" comes closest to having some extra info on the picture.

-- lens cover. Some cameras don't even come with this!

This camera is also pretty compact and feels right in my hands. The buttons are laid out just right. I find the lens a bit slow in moving in and out but not detrimental to picture-taking in most situations. (I don't shoot sports.) Red-eye reduction works ok but I rarely use it. Flash range is good, but you have to remember that a built-in flash can never do a good job at doing soft lighting.

Picture quality is good with this camera. Assuming you use brandname film like Kodak and Fuji, you'll get pleasing pictures. (If you use a generic brand you got for free at the street corner from a guy in a funny hat, you may be disappointed in the prints... with any camera.) This is really a basic consumer camera, so don't expect lots of fine controls as you can with SLR's.

Some reviewers complain about reliability problems, but from my experience Olympus cameras are some of the most reliable on the market. I haven't had mine long enough to know for sure, but the body seems sturdy and should last a long time.

4-0 out of 5 stars So simple to use....
Quite a gem, Olympus has continued on with its tradition of providing great cameras matched with style and simplicity. I have taken this camera with me in both hot and cold weather, bright and dark conditions, dry and humid areas. It just works wonderfully. The only glitch is that the date printing somehow doesn't quite stand out at times. It also has taken its toll on getting wet, dropping it from 10 ft (slid from my hands while coming down the stairs), and eating dust but still worked great.

4-0 out of 5 stars extraordinary
being i am new to this site, i find the product having the extraordinary.

2-0 out of 5 stars defective
It took great pictures but needed to be returned....Both the original and the new replacement cameras were defective. (The button would "stick" and not let you take photos sometimes.) ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Rugged, Easy to Use, Good Price
At last, here is an all-purpose, easy-to-use camera that provides a variety of built-in accessories. The Olympus Stylus Zoom 115 QD camera is a great find at a reasonable cost. Best of all, the learning curve is short. After 30 years of using a 35-mm Pentax with six exchangeable lenses, and another 15 years of using one of the first one-step Minoltas, I began to look for a simple camera that was lightweight and not fussy.

I needed a camera that could take excellent quality, in-focus shots of my craft booth set up, because show juries demand them. The camera needed to be small, durable, tough, and take the same quality shots indoors and out, with natural lighting and under fluorescent and indoor stadium lighting. If the same camera could take some close ups of my jewelry so I could scan the shots and send them to clients to give them an idea of a design, so much the better. And I didn't have a lot of money to spare, either.

After some in-person and on-line research I decided on the Olympus Epic Zoom 115 QD. I read through the instruction book once. I made one mistake loading the film (if you don't load it right the first time, don't push "rewind" -the tail end of the film will be sucked into the roll). That was it. My first roll produced some good shots and some excellent shots, and the second roll had no throw-away shots. The variable focus provides a lot of flexibility. No red eyes on flash, not even on the cats. No complaints. For the price, snap this camera up.

5-0 out of 5 stars An Excellent Camera with a Great Telephoto Lens
The camera is compact, solid but light, and very easy to use. The images are very good to excellent. All the features seems to work just fine. The telephoto lens really brings images in. Its relative resistance to water-spray helps with boating photography. So far it has worked without a hitch. Though I own a digital camera, I believe that a film camera like this is still preferable for travel or for taking many pictures in a short time. All you have to do is plop a new film in and keep going, and then drop it off for development and you will end up with photos that will not fade out in a few years. I highly recommend this Olympus for an uncomplicated way of handling photography in an economical fashion and ending up with excellent results.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not Recommended
I loved the features on this camera when I first purchased it. However, on only the 2nd or 3rd roll of film, I noticed the pictures (particulary the zoom pictures) were fuzzy. Olympus diagnosed the problem as the lens being off center. Now only 2 years later, the lens cover has broken off and the motor is not working properly. I am now looking for a new camera, but definately not an Olympus.

3-0 out of 5 stars Very nice camera, BUT....
We have bought six Olympus's for our large family of grown children. They are easy to use, relatively inexpensive, and compact. But, they have a major flaw. On three of the six cameras we have bought, the lins cover has broken and this prevents the camera from operating. The authorized service places in Houston Texas say they can not get the parts to repair this product deficiency.

1-0 out of 5 stars Camera Broke on First Use
The lens cover broke on the first use!!! I will never buy an Olympus Product again! ... Read more

One of the world's smallest, lightest 140mm zoom cameras, the StylusZoom 140 QD enhances photographic performance without sacrificing portability. The fully automatic operation includes quartz dating, autofocus, autoexposure, and auto loading and rewinding. The multi-autofocus system ensures focusaccuracy even when your main subject isn't in the center of the frame. Itsclamshell barrier design provides worry-free protection against the elements.

One of its best features is the variable-power flash for natural color tones. The red-eye reduction flash mode emits a series of pre-flashes right before theshutter snaps, allowing the subject's eyes to adjust to the light level of theflash, which reduces the red-eye effect. Night scene flash mode automaticallylowers the shutter speed to ensure that both foreground and background areproperly illuminated for night scenes. Fill-in flash mode softens the sharpcontrasts for a more natural look in photos where your subject is in both brightlight and dark shadow. Flash-off mode is available when flash photography is notpermitted, or for special moody effects using available light.

Other features include macro close-ups from as near as 24 inches (wide-angle)and 35 inches (telephoto), and a self-timer. All this makes it easy to justrelax and take the picture. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Camera!
I bought this camera a couple of weeks ago and used it for the first time at Disneyland. I'm thrilled with the results.

Film: I used 800 Dx film (the type I always use)--1 roll of Fuji; 1 roll of Kodak. Both rolls came out great.

About Me: I am an amateur camera user, not a professional. I have always used point-and-shoot type cameras for vacations, special occassions, etc.

Convenience: The camera easily fits inside a fanny pack, along with a small wallet, comb, sunglasses and an extra roll of film. At only 9 oz, it is almost feather-light. The buttons are easy to use; you don't need a pencil or other pointed object to press them.

Lighting Conditions/Features Tested: I tested all of the camera's features (except the timer) in a variety of conditions--through the windows of the Monorail both while stopped and moving, inside rides with the flash off, in bright sun, in the shadows and shade of Tom Sawyer's Island, etc. Splash Mountain proved an excellent place to test the camera's splash resistance.

Photo Quality: Nothing seemed to fool this camera. All of the pictures came out crisp, sharp and clear with exceptional color, at all levels of zoom. People pictures came out unusually well with very true skin color.

Windows: I am particularly pleased with the camera's ability to shoot through windows. It does not have a "landscape" or "infinity" mode, nor does it seem to need one. The camera consistently focused on objects beyond the glass, and pictures came back without glare.

Flash Off Feature: Unlike other cameras that require you to activate the flash off feature each time (each shot) you want to use it, the Olympus Zoom 140 flash-off remains activated until you either switch to another mode or turn the camera off. In places where flash is not permitted, this allows you to take numerous photos without having to press the flash-off button each time.

Viewfinder: Like many point-and-shoot cameras, the viewfinder is slightly above and to the right of the lens. But unlike other cameras I considered, the Olympus viewfinder has guides that help you allow for that...and prevent "chopped off heads" in pictures. The adjustable diopter is also very easy to use. It works beautifully except when the camera is zoomed all the way to 140, at which point it is slightly blurry. (But the pictures still come out great!)

Zoom: The zoom is extremely easy to use and allows you to zoom to any point within the range. There are no preset zoom stops.

Minor Criticism: My only slight criticism of this camera is that the window that displays the number of exposures and the flash mode is not lighted. But that can easily be overcome by carrying a penlight so that you can read the display in dim environments.

Summary: This camera produces excellent pictures, is very easy to use, and is well worth the price. It has definitely exceeded my expectations.

4-0 out of 5 stars Nice quality pics, very good ergodynamics
I own a Nikon N6006 SLR and set out to buy a point-and-shoot for convenience. I bought both a Minox CD 140 and an Olympus Stylus Zoom 140 QD. I shot a roll of film with all three at once, then blinded sorted the the match sets of three pictures of each image based on which were best. My findings:

1. The Nikon SLR was not consistently the best. In fact, the difference between the pictures from the SLR and the two point and shoots was remarkably smaller than I expected.

2. The Minox had somewhat better color, focusing, and contrast than did the Olympus. The difference, however, was slight.

3. The Olmpus was better designed than the Minox. The Olympus fit better in the hand, the clamshell cover gave more protection, it had a greater zoom range, the viewfinder was slightly larger and set back from the camera body (so your nose doesn't bump the camera as much), and the diopter adjustment was nice. On the plus side for the Minox, the placement of the Minox zoom buttons was more comfortable for me than than the Olympus ones, and the Minox turned on and off markedly faster than the Olympus. Also, the Minox case was more practical.

Both point and shoot cameras would be excellent options. Get the Minox if picture quality is paramount; get the Olympus if you want more features and better comfort in your hands.

4-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful! Simple to use, great photos.
The two most important features to me are the quality of the photos a camera takes (with and w/out the zoom), and how quickly the picture is taken when you press the shutter and quick speed between photos. This camera delivers both those features.

I had an Olympus Stylus for years, then a year ago thought I should get a new autofocus camera and read snappy advertising by Nikon about their special glass lens technology for incredibly sharp pictures blah blah blah. I was sold. That camera took terrible fuzzy or grainy photos with the zoom, and not that great without the zoom lens. And the worst part was the wait time between photos with and without the flash. We'd press the shutter also, and there would be a few second delay before the photo was taken. By then all the kids had moved and we had to set everybody up all over again. Do not buy a Nikon lite touch.

I love the Olympus. We've taken it to the ocean and snapped four rolls of film. Every photo was sharp, colorful, and good quality. I cannot tell you how releived we were when we got the photos. Olympus makes a great product at a great price without a lot of pomp and circumstance.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Good Camera
It doesn't suck. I cannot believe some of the negative comments about this camera. I've had one for a while and it's always taken great pictures. The only problems that I've had is when the people at Eckerd screw up the processing (but they have ALWAYS reprinted at NO COST) to correct the problems. For a point and shoot, it does a great job of focusing. 1 last thing, use Fuji film. I have always had better results with it than Kodak.

2-0 out of 5 stars Too bad it didn't last!
I bought this camera about 2 1/2 years ago. I was very satisfied with the picture quality under a variety of conditions. Unfortunately, a couple of weeks ago it quit focusing. As it turns out for this type of camera all photo repair shops send the unit in to Olympus to have it repaired. If you want you can send it to Olympus directly yourself. The problem is that regardless of the problem, the repair is a flat rate ... which is rapidly approaching the cost of just buying a replacement camera. Disappointing... ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

The Olympus Stylus Epic Zoom 80 QD CG offers advanced features and a zoom in a compact package, allowing you to get the close-up shots you want with the portability you need.

While the Olympus Stylus Epic Zoom 80 is one of the smallest zoom cameras available, it is heavy on styling and great features. Its miniature version of Olympus's signature clamshell sliding case makes it easy to turn the camera on and off, while offering protection against lens scratches. It comes in a good-looking and durable brushed champagne gold case that is splash-proof, so you can shoot pictures in all kinds of weather. The 38-80mm zoom lens is perfect for framing portraits, getting in on the action, and capturing faraway subjects.

The Olympus Stylus Epic Zoom 80 offers the advanced features of Olympus's larger camera lines, including quartz date and time imprinting and a self timer. The Olympus Stylus Epic also has a whopping six flash modes, including automatic, red-eye reduction, and night scene. It also has a useful Infinity mode, which sets the focus to let you take shots of distant landscapes and other subjects.

The Olympus Stylus Epic is a pleasure to use--it is as small as or smaller than many of the new Advanced Photo System (APS) cameras, but still uses standard 35mm film.

Its tapered design made it easy to slip in a pocket, and since it is little larger than a deck of cards, we found ourselves carrying it everywhere. It's especially nice to have the zoom in such a compact camera. --Walt Opie

5-0 out of 5 stars This is a great camera!
Not liking point-and-shoot cameras made it difficult for me to decide to get one for a recent trip overseas. I wanted something light, easy to use, and easy to hide (so as no to look like an American tourist). I decided on this camera because of recommendations by friends, but also took my heavy SLR with me in my carry-on luggage. Then, while abroad I decided to mostly use my little camera due to its size.

I never saw the pictures until I got home and had the photos developed (at a good camera shop). Was I thrilled! They were absolutely great. The colors were bright and true. The details were sharp enough to reproduce by scanner and send as attachments onto emails to my family overseas.

The camera itself I often carried hidden in my purse, but it was always ready. The only time I was disappointed in its performance was when I ran out of film! Of course, that was my fault, not the camera's.

It's so easy to use. Very often I had others taking pictures of me. Generally all they would ask was which button to push. Even the most inexperienced picture taker came up with terrific shots!

I would say that this is an excellent camera for its price. If you get it, you won't be disappointed.

5-0 out of 5 stars STILL A GEM
About a year ago I reviewed this camera and was crazy about it. I haven't found any reasons to change my mind. If anything, I like it more now than I did then.

I just took it along on another vacation (Cancun, Mexico, this time around) and it was the perfect choice. This time I also brought one of my Nikons and a few lenses to use for my more "serious" photography.

Score it 9 rolls of film for the Olympus and 2 for the Nikon. I won't say that the Olympus pictures are "better". What I'll say instead is that since the Olympus was so easy to carry around I found myself doing so more than I would the 10 lbs of Nikon equipment.

Again, I've found that the night flash mode is a beaut. I took a picture of my girlfriend on a pier with the sunset for a background. Using this flashmode, the foreground was filled in perfectly and the background sunset had fantastic color saturation.

I'm still going to use my Nikons as I have for well over 20 years, but maybe not as often.

By the way, I've read a few reviews saying that the Olympus is fragile. I haven't found that to be the case under normal use.

Edited 1/13/04: I just sold mine after three years to purchase a Canon A70 digital.

I guess it's time to move on from the "old" technology and learn something new.

If my A70 gives me as much pleasure as this little Olympus did I'll have it around for quite a while.

3-0 out of 5 stars Sliding door failed after minimal usage, otherwise great
I really loved this camera, but the sliding "door" broke and wouldn't close after only a few months of minimal usage. I don't know if I got a lemon, or what. The camera was never dropped or otherwise abused. I had had another Olympus for years with the same design, that worked great--it's really easy to get quick shots when you can slide off the lens cover and turn on the camera all in one quick motion ; I will most likely try another one even after my bad experience with this one. I hope that they have solved this issue, if it was widespread--at least one other reviewer mentioned the same problem...

5-0 out of 5 stars perfect point and click camera
The size and design of this camera make it ideal for what it is designed for. It takes great pictures in light and dark (though it's better at outdoor pictures) and it fits easily into your pocket. It opens quickly with one hand; no fumbling around with a lens cap. It focuses quickly so you can take a shot from a closed position very quickly.

The only thing worth noting is that this is a point and click camera. If you want to control exposure, shutter speed, etc. or play with macro, this is not your camera.

4-0 out of 5 stars Handy Dandy Camera
We purchased this camera to take on a European vacation. It is very easy to use and the pictures, for the most part, turned out well. I only wish I had taken along an old 35mm SLR I've had for 20 years so I could have used a wider variety of lenses. This camera, for all of its capabilities, did a very good job. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars A Pretty Good Buy
When buying this camera, I had huge expectations. I previously had a canon, however it was getting a bit old. When I purchase a camera I look for one that is stylish as well as good quality. Many of my friends recommended olympus' cameras to me and so after much research I finally bought the Stylus Select 105. When buying this camera, I expected a top of the line pocket-sized camera. I half-got what I was expecting. It takes wonderful outdoor pictures which are very vivid and clear. However, in dark rooms or at night the pictures can get a little grainy and not as bright as I would want them to be. In the beginning, I tried using the nighttime features as well as the red-eye, however, DO NOT use it unless you have a tripod with you. The manual recommends a tripod, but I decided not to listen and tried it anyway. My returned pictures were blurry and awful. I couldn't even put them in my photo album they were so bad. But I'm much more careful now and don't even bother using the nighttime or red eye features. They're not even worth using unless you carry a tripod with you everywhere you go. Maybe the stylus select 105 did not live up to my expectations, but I do have to admit that it is very sturdy. Also, the camera case givin in the kit is horrible. Don't expect it to provide any protection. The stylus select 105 probably wouldn't need the protection, but I prefer to have some kind of padding protecting my camera even if it has an all-metal body.

5-0 out of 5 stars an everithing-in-one cam!
This is such a good camera!!!!!!!!!!!!
It is so small, ALL-weather, metal body, a powerful zoom, a big LCD screen, and if that's not enough, it comes with a complete set that contains the camera(duuuh), a CR2 battery, a case, a strap, an extended warranty, and a remote control. What else can you ask for? Maybe you can say the zoom is actually not so good, but a lens of 38-105m, is actually a pretty nice zoom, because if you have a mega-zoom like 150 or something, you're never gonna use it!
If you are those who drop the camera very often, then this is your chance. A complete metal body so it won't be broken, and if you drop I mud it's all weather!
I extremely recommend this camera, besides, I don't know what happened to meubanks64 or something because it always takes sharp pictures with so nice colors.

2-0 out of 5 stars Disappointing
I waited with much anticipation for this camera to be stocked after reading about it's new features in the press release in the fall. I purchased it as a gift for my wife for Christmas because our 6-year old Olympus Stylus Zoom 105 needed major repair. Our old camera took GREAT pictures - sharp, balanced exposures, great variable flash, etc. So, I had no problems buying another Olympus. I looked at the existing Olympus Zooms (115,140,170), but after comparing the pictures from my brother's Zoom 115 to our old Zoom 105, they still didn't seem as good. So I decided on the new Zoom 105.
.
Overall, the new Zoom 105 camera is significantly (~15%) smaller than the old one. I like the cool metal shell better than the old plastic one. I was hoping that the AF system was as good as or better than the old one since it claims to be a 'new 11-point multi-wide advanced combination autofocus'.
.
During an outdoor (daytime) event, we shot a whole roll of film using the new camera (fully-auto settings) in a variety of settings while my brother's wife used their Zoom 115. After comparing the pictures side by side (same processing), the shortcomings of our new camera are obvious. The pictures are VERY disappointing. The focus is not near as sharp as the old camera, or even the Zoom 115. The edges of the shots are much darker, also. We have taken several rolls in various environments all with roughly the same outcome. Perhaps we just got an early production-run lemon. For Olympus' sake, I hope so. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Stylish but bad pictures
I think that this is a terrible camera. Even though it is very stylish, it takes bad pictures. Even if you have bright lighting the pictures look dark. I would not suggest buying this camera.

5-0 out of 5 stars Hip and Stylish Camera
Even at the age of 12, I think this camera would be great for kids, because its easy to reload film into and it's not hard to work with. 4-0 out of 5 stars Olympus Trip Camera
Well I actually won a camera exactly similar to the XB40... this one was the AF4000. I have just begun to use it and I really like it. Getting adjusted to a 35mm from a 110 was a little rocky, but all is well and atleast I dont have to worry about advancing the film. Overall this camera is nice, handy, small (but affective), and actually looks expensive, but isnt. I hope all enjoy the camera because I sure do.

3-0 out of 5 stars good camera but only worked for a year
I got this camera last year for camp. It worked fine. The pictures were good but not the best. The pictures i took with it; didn't look like what it looked like when i took the shot. The pictures also had red eye. I continued to use it until recently when i brought it to camp again. This time the camera skipped pictures on the roll of film, and sometimes didn't work at all even with new batteries in it. Now my camera doesn't work, and i only had it for a year. But what can you ask for when you buy a ... camera.

2-0 out of 5 stars Easy to use, but very disappointing fuzzy pictures.
Lousy autofocus - I replaced the camera once and the new one is no better. I am sick of fuzzy, hazy pictures!

I consistently get MUCH better sharpness and quality with the Fuji SnapShot disposable cameras, as well as the Vivitar focus-free cheapie. Same shot, same time, same place they both put this camera to shame!

Even with ASA400 or ASA800 film, the pictures typically turn out too dark and with poor contrast as well. If pictures are worth taking, they really should turn out better than this!

4-0 out of 5 stars Good camera, not as automatic as I'd thought
This is a good camera: takes good pictures and has huge 'viewing lenses' (or whatever those are called) that worked great for my grandmother's bad eyesight. The film is not automatically rolled neither in - when you insert the film you have to take a few pictures and make sure that the small numbers are changing, which can be pretty hard without eye glasses - nor out when there are no pictures left. At least the rolling forward between pictures is automatic.

4-0 out of 5 stars Wow - Great Deal!
This was a gift purchase for my husband. He needed something simple for his racing adventures, but I wanted quality for the sake of good pictures. This camera delivers both. The view finder is easy to see through, which is great for someone with poor vision like my husband.

The camera is small, easy to use, and easy to load with 35 mm film. Automatic advance and flash make it perfect for the novice, and takes the hassle out of candid shots.

We do not have any complaints about this camera. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A very handy camera
I purchased this camera because I wanted a small camera to take with me on rainy days or when I did not want to carry around my Pentax P3 or my Nikon FG-20 and various lens. I was skeptical about how well this camera would meet my diserning eye, but I thought for the price, and that it had been refurbished, it was worth a try. My husband and I went to Harper's Ferry for our honeymoon and spent 2 days taking pictures by the two rivers and of the church. Because of the heat, I opted to leave my good cameras behind and just take this little Olympus, knowing this would be a once in a life time opportunity and that camera needed to do well! When we got the prints back, and it really makes a difference where you get your photos developed!, the quality and clarity of the photos were excellent. I really do enjoy having a small camera so I able to relax and enjoy the hike and also trust that my photos will be clear and sharp. I am pleased with the one that I have purchased.

1-0 out of 5 stars Bad choice
I have always heard good things about the Olympus brand so I assumed when I bought this camera that I would be happy with it. Three weeks after purchasing it the zoom quit working. I called the Olympus customer service but I found then very unhelpful. I brought it back to the store and exchanged it for a new one of the exact same model. I immediatly put batteries in and tried it out but this one was broke too with the same problem! So, two cameras in a row were broke, one after three weeks, one already when I purchased it. I finally took it back to the store and exchanged it for a different brand of camera. I'm not impressed with this camera!

4-0 out of 5 stars Great camera
I recieved this camera for Christmas, and have had the opportunity to use it in diverse situations. Consistent with my experience with Olympus products, it is easy to use and takes sharp, well exposed pictures. Olympus is known for making sharp lenses, even in lower priced cameras, and this one doesn't dissapoint. It is bigger than many other point and shoot cameras, but I prefer having something a little bigger. There have been some complaints about the date imprinting, I also don't like it, but it can be turned off. Read the instruction manual, it's not hard to do.
The only compliant I have is that the lens is quite slow. With ISO 100 film, the flash comes on in all but the brightest sunlight. ISO 400 film is recommended. However, this problem goes with the territory in point and shoots with zoom lenses, and to fix it would greatly increase the size, weight and cost of the camera.
The exposure system is accurate, the only problem I had was in Death Valley, taking a picture at Badwater, all the white salt fooled the exposure system into underexposing the picture, but it was still well within the exposure latitude of the film.
I haven't replaced the original battery in this camera, which is even more impressive in that I took the battery out of another camera which broke. Point and shoots eat batteries for breakfast, this one seems to do quite well in the battery life department. ...
In short, if you're looking for a zoom lens point and shoot, prefer something on the larger size, ... you can't go wrong with this camera. Good features, great pictures, and Olympus quality.

4-0 out of 5 stars Best Camera 4 the $$
Easy to use - Great Pictures ! I've used autofocus and manual focus cameras for years and have found this to be the best of the lot, for ease of use and quality of pictures.

I suggest using the 400 speed film for in & outdoor shots, as the autofocus feature seems to like that best.

3-0 out of 5 stars Decent little camrea for the price
This camera is not outstanding, but does have some nice features. I have had the most success with taking pictures using natural light. If you take most of your pictures outside, this would be a good camera.

The different flash settings are nice and the red eye reduction works well. But, I've had trouble in general with using the flash in very dim settings. The background often comes out looking totally dark.

I hate pictures that have the digital date stamped on them in the corner. This camera does that, but that option works off its own battery, not the main camera battery. I just took out the little battery and the pictures come out plain.

Another thing I like is that it will not allow you to take the picture if it is out of focus. A light flashes on the inside of the viewfinder it's not focused. Then, you know you need to back up or re-adust your aim. ... Read more

Amazon.com Product Description

The compact Olympus Stylus Zoom 115 QD camera has a precisionautofocusing system that ensures sharp, clear pictures. Its fullyautomatic operations include autofocus, auto exposure, film loading, and film rewind. The 3x, 38-115mm zoom lens lets the photographershoot everything from wide-angle views to telephoto close-ups.

The variable-power flash provides soft illumination, giving your subject natural skin tones even at close range. When your subject is backlit or under artificial light, the color-balancing flash fires automatically. In night portrait mode, the camera automatically lowers the shutter speed to ensure that both foreground and background are properly lit for night scenes. If your subject is in both bright light and dark shadow, the fill flash softens the sharp contrasts, giving the scene a more natural look. However, in those cases when flash photography is not permitted, or if you want to capture that "moody" special effect using just available light, a flash-off mode is also included. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Little Wonder!
The Olympus Stylus Zoom 115 QD is wonderful. After deciding I didn't want to take all my SLR equipment on my cruise I bought this camera only one day before leaving. The first roll of film I had developed on the ship to see if I was using the camera correctly. All 24 pictures turned out beautifully, at night, in the rain, inside, and outside. I ended up taking 10 rolls of film on vacation and this camera gave me the freedom I never had with my SLR. The camera has nice styling and is small enough to fit almost anywhere (even in my formal evening purse). Since coming back from vacation I have taken many rolls of film and I am still as impressed. Try it! I don't think that you will be disappointed.

5-0 out of 5 stars I LOVE MY "ROBO-CAM"
I did a great deal of research before purchasing this camera and I've determined that this little Olympus is a great value for the money. My favorite features? Well, aside from the cool telescoping zoom lens that makes a hi-tech "whirring" sound...the size is perfect (not too big; not too small), film is easy to load, digital read-outs are simple to set and easy to read, buttons are easy to manipulate (for those of us with nails), operation is intuitive and prints are rich and sharp. Anyone can take great pictures with this camera (I've already snapped off 20+ rolls) and enlargements are crisp and true to the original. I'm thrilled with my Olympus and heartily recommend it for anyone seeking a camera with a very good zoom range (35-115), highly-rated lens and elegant, yet sturdy styling. Everyone needs a robo-cam in their camera collection. :-)

1-0 out of 5 stars Terrible Close-ups & Flash system
I bought it to take pix at my kid's birth. Every single close-up came out blurry. 100% of them. I also missed several pictures because of the "flash 50 times before taking the darn picture" system. Like most of the new point and shoot autofocus (supposedly) cameras, this one has cumbersome unnecessary technology. What I wouldn't give to have my 1989 Canon SureShot Zoom S back. I didn't know how good I had it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Pictures
The Olympus is a great camera. It has been on many trips with me and not failed me yet. The camera has experienced some mild damage (broken lens cover, crack in viewfinder), and still takes wonderful photos. The clarity and color are wonderful. The available remote control (recommended) allows the person behind the camera to be in the picture!

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent camera
I bought a refurb. The camera has all the features including auto load, rewind. It uses Lithium batteries and I am now shooting the 5'th roll without any problems. The picture quality is very good. The zoom is not very effective at long distances and needs careful handling to prevent shake for good pics. The flash is effective under normal distances of 10-12 feet. The camera is robust and all weather as stated. A very good deal for its price.
Buy by all means. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

The Olympus I Zoom 75's sleek, lightweight form, zoom lens, and splashproof construction make it an ideal camera for travelers who want the advantages of the Advanced Photo System in a quality package. The compact 75 is protected in a splashproof metallic-looking cover, and sports a slimmer version of the Olympus signature sliding-clamshell case, allowing this model to fit easily in to a pocket. The only disadvantage to this camera's compactness is that the self-timer and flash buttons are a little hard to press since they're so small. The Olympus I Zoom 75's multi-autofocus system helps produce the best photos possible--we found the camera did a good job of focusing even when our subject wasn't dead center. The flash gave us a choice of auto, red-eye reduction, fill-flash, night scene, and off modes. The night-scene mode allows you to sync the flash with a slow shutter speed so that you can take portraits with a night scene in the background. The zoom lens--a bonus on such a compact camera--has a 28 to 75mm equivalent range, good for everything from wide-angle landscapes, to portraits and medium close-ups.

The Olympus I Zoom 75 is extremely easy to use, especially since it uses the Advanced Photo System (APS) format. APS film is a snap to load; no messing with film leaders, or alignment of cartridges, as the film just drops in and loads automatically. The APS format lets you take regular, wide-screen, and panoramic photos on the same roll, and your processed prints will include an index print, with thumbnails of every shot, for easy reprinting.

Pros:

  • Ultra compact form
  • Zoom lens
  • APS format
  • Wide range of flash modes

Cons:

  • Certain buttons are too small

3-0 out of 5 stars Just got it
I just got this camera last night -- so far it seems very simple to operate. The features are many but the buttons are easy to understand. There's no lag when you snap the picture it takes right away. The timer has a 12 second delay and the other cameras I looked at only had 10. I haven't had the roll developed yet --but if the picture quality is as wonderful as this camera is to operate I've found a winner!
