Amazon.com Product Description

The user-friendly mode dial of the Pentax IQ Zoom 200 camera lets you turn the power on and off, as well as select the mode you want--including panorama--with just a twist of the dial. It has a large, easy-to-read LCD instruction panel that displays all of the camera's settings and indicators. The actual-image zoom viewfinder switches from standard view to panorama when you do, so you can see exactly what your image will look like. Even difficult shooting situations are no problem, thanks to the five-point passive autofocus system and the six-segment multipattern metering system.

The large LCD instruction panel is easy-to-read and automatically lights up so, whether it's day or night, you can see all of the information you need to operate the camera, including: exposure counter, battery exhaustion warning, panorama, infinity-landscape, spot AF, flash-on, flash-off, red-eye reduction, self-timer, and multiexposure.

Employing automatic LCD parallax compensation, the "actual image" viewfinder is able to display the framing area with amazing precision. If you want to capture the whole scene, you can switch to panorama mode--even in midroll. The IQZoom 200 automatically provides a view of the new panorama area via the viewfinder. It gives you several indicators, including: focus and flash status, infinity-landscape mark, panorama-format picture area, close-distance compensation frame, five-point AF frame, and spot AF frame. This viewfinder also has an adjustable diopter, which allows you to adjust the image to match your eyesight.

Conditions that would normally "fool" a camera, like shooting through a glass window or an off-center subject, come out perfectly focused with the IQZoom 200's phase-matching five-point passive autofocus system. Even difficult lighting situations are no problem with the help of the highly accurate six-segment multipattern metering system. It measures the current lighting conditions, ensuring that your images get optimum exposure, no matter the conditions. The automatic backlight compensation feature fires the flash during backlight conditions to properly expose the subject.

With the zoom macro, you can capture a large, detailed image of your subject--without making any adjustments--from as close as four feet at 200mm in telephoto mode to 2.6 feet in the 48mm wide-angle mode. The lens automatically retracts to 48mm after approximately three minutes of nonuse. ... Read more

  • Actual-image zoom viewfinder with diopter adjustment

  • Five-point passive autofocus system properly exposes the subject

5-0 out of 5 stars Great camera, fantastic price
I bought this camera to take on vacation. Since I already have the IQZoom 160 I was familiar with how the camera worked. As with the 160, the pictures turned out fantastic and the camera is really easy to work. My pictures are clear and the color is beautiful. Because it is a light weight camera it is easy to carry around sightseeing. I am thinking of buying another one to give as a gift to my daughter and son-in-law since they always want a set of the pictures I take. I have a Canon Rebel 2000 which doesn't give me pictures with as good a quality as the IQZoom (probably operator error). I would recommend this camera to anyone who wants terrific pictures with little muss or fuss.

4-0 out of 5 stars I LOVE IT!
This camera has been great to me. The zoom is absolutley amazing. I go to concerts all the time, and no matter if i am sitting in the front row or the last row, i still get a great picture. The one drawback is the viewfinder, it is hard to see through in the dark. Otherwise, this camera is a winner!

1-0 out of 5 stars Very disapointed
First, the shutter is very slow. For any shots with movement, the action is long over by the time the camera actually takes the shot. Second, if you don't shoot in perfect lighting or where it's very well lit, the photos are dark, even if your shooting at close range with a flash. The viewfinder is awful, it takes longer to look through the viewfinder than any other step in taking photos. The quality of the photos are very good but only in color, with perfect lighting. It's nearly impossible to get a good shot, usually the shot is too dark (mostly)or it has far too much contrast between light and dark parts of the shot (poor shading)

2-0 out of 5 stars Over priced for quality!!
Picture quality not reliable, bulky and difficult to use. Indoor pictures looked great, outdoor pictures over exposed, blurry, and shadows in images. Poor color in outside photos even with different brands/speeds of film.

1-0 out of 5 stars Dissappointing
I have previously owned an Olympus that was wonderful. When it broke I was lured into the zoom feature of the Pentax. While the zoom works well, the camera has many drawbacks. First and foremost is the viewfinder. It is near impossible to see what you are shooting especially in dim light. Indoor pictures quality is dissappointing also. I can shoot two pictures back-to-back of the same subject and one will be fine while the other is dark. (The flash indicator says it was ready.) I am looking for a new camera now. It was a very expensive lesson. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Easy to use & good quality photos
Just bought this camera from Amazon. Impressed with the super fast delivery time (opted for free shipping) & the price.

The camera is really easy to use and if you have used any automatic camera, then this one can be mastered in absolutely no time. There are no extra frills, buttons & lights to confuse an automatic camera user. Just point, zoom & click.

The camera works perfect and the quality of the pictures is very impressive. I use ASA 200 or 400 and worked fine with both. A very good option to take along with the digital camera as a second option.

4-0 out of 5 stars viewfinder is out of focus
I've experimented with this camera 3 times now including a DisneyWorld trip. The viewfinder is out of focus. Sometimes it's hard to find your subject in the viewfinder too. But lo and behold, the pix come out great! Not sure if the viewfinder problem is common but I didn't have time to return it for another. It's definately worth the $90!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome Zoom and fast focus
I was looking for a camera that could take some knocks when I dont want to take my $1000 Nikon SLR around. I know that Pentax made excellent optics but this deal was much better than I anticipated.
PROs:
*FAST auto focus ..not sluggish like some inexpensive point and shoot caneras.
*Excellent Pentax glass lens. Not a cheap non branded piece of glass
* Multi zone focusing like my $1000 Nikon
*Long zoom that brings the image 4 times closer with no distortion like in a digital zoom camera

*No shutter lag as in all digital cameras
* Simple drop and load film loading
*Solid construction for a $150.00 camera.
*Free shipping!

Cons:
* Not pocket size, but controls are easy to accces for my large handed husband.
* no others that I found since having this for 60 days. I just bought another for a xmas gift today after I sale for $99!

Overall an outsatnding value that delivers picture quality [ I use Kodak Gold 400 speed] on par with SLR cameras. ... Read more

Amazon.com Product Description

Packaged in a lightweight silver-and-black body, the ultracompact Pentax ZX-7 Autofocus camera body has an attractive round-edged design and its controls are conveniently positioned, making it easy and comfortable to operate. Also, with the innovative auto-picture mode, complicated exposure control decisions are no longer necessary. This feature automatically selects one of the five picture modes: landscape, close-up, action, portrait, or standard, ensuring that your image will be properly exposed.

Once you've selected the auto-picture mode, the ZX-7 automatically chooses the autoexposure mode best suited for the scene you want to shoot. This selection is based on the subject's distance, lens focal length, and whether or not the subject is in motion. Once the mode is chosen, the camera "tells" you its decision via the illuminated mode dial and the viewfinder indicator. You can also manually select from the available picture modes, as well as two conventional autoexposure modes (aperture-priority AE and shutter-priority AE), metered manual, and bulb modes.

In addition to the hands-off autoexposure mode selection, the ZX-7 has a high-precision, high-speed phase matching autofocus (SAFOX IV) system designed to deliver crisply focused images. The six-segment, multipattern light metering system calculates the optimum exposure, while the three-point wide focus frame enables pinpoint focusing, regardless of the lighting conditions. If your subject is in motion, the predictive autofocus function automatically detects the subject's motion and anticipates the subject's position at the time of shutter release, resulting in perfectly focused photos.

When you want to frame the same scene a little differently, you can simply push the memory-lock button and your current settings are memorized for 20 seconds. This lets you recompose your subject without changing all of your settings. If the standard setting just doesn't capture the scene, you can switch to panorama mode at any frame on a roll of film. This is perfect for large group shots or breathtaking landscapes.

With an exposure compensation of +/- 3EV in + 1/2EV steps, you can intentionally over- or underexpose your images, depending on the results you want to attain. You can also expose more than two images on a single frame to create multiple exposures. If you want to take three or more exposures on the same frame, simply press the multiple-exposure button after each exposure. For large group shots or to capture a beautiful landscape, simply switch to panorama mode--at any frame on the roll of film. The viewfinder image automatically adjusts to indicate the panorama format so you know what your picture will look like.

With all of these options, it could be easy to forget what your camera's indications and settings are. However, the ZX-7 has a multidata LCD panel, with large icons and numbers, as well as an LCD panel with a green illuminator that brightens the panel to make data confirmation easier. The illumination dial clearly indicates which program is selected by the camera, or by you--even in the dark, as the selected mode is also indicated in your viewfinder display. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A satisfying product from Pentax.
Pentax ZX-7 could be suitably placed in the "most bang for the bucks" category. It is a feature laden camera(useful features and not just bells and whistles) which will satisfy both the amateurs as well as the pros.

I am using a Sigma AF 28-200mm F3.5-5.6 DL Aspherical Hyperzoom Macro lens. This zoom is also a satisfying product and gives quite sharp and well balanced results.

The photographs have come out well exposed and crisp. The RTF flash is OK for lighted indoors but for outdoors, a TTL external flash is required (I am using a Pentax AF280T).

It provides plenty of flexibility when using the various priority modes. For the greenhorns the "auto picture" mode will be very helpful.

Pentax accessory - Battery Pack FG will be quite useful for users as one can use cheaper standard "AA" batteries instead of the expensive "LC" batteries.

Metal lens mount, multiple exposure, TTL RTF flash, silver finish body etc. are some of the features in this well designed SLR camera.

I am very much missing the DOF as my present 28-200mm zoom has a shallow depth of field and it is very difficult to judge the depth of sharpness. My older non-AF Pentax camera (ProgramA) had this capability

5-0 out of 5 stars Great camera
The zx-7 is just a wonderful camera. It is so easy to use and we still have yet to shoot a bad picture. I enjoy it so much that I went out and bought the Sigma 300mm lens for it-awesome. The best thing is when you upgrade to a new flash-the camera and flash communicate with each other before the photo is taken. This camera has the most options for the price. I recommend this camera to everyone!

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect Camera for Beginner to Intermediates
I bought this camera without any knowledge of Photography. All I have ever used is point and shoot cameras and this was my first SLR. I reviewed all the SLR cameras in the market for a long time and ultimately decided on this. The best part of this camrera is that it has a metal mount unlike others in its range which have plastic mounts. I use a 28-200 Tamron lens and it is a big and heavy lens but the metal mount has no problems. I use my camera roughly but it is so solidly built that it has no effect on it. The pictures are perfect. My wife who cannot take good pics even with a point and shoot digital cameras, takes awesome pictures with this camera. The other good part with this camera is that it has Memory Lock. Look for the ML key on the back top right hand corner of the camera. That's a very important feature which Nikon N65 and Rebel 2000 have excluded.
The only words I have for it are "GO FOR IT".

5-0 out of 5 stars What more could you want.
This camera was bought without any for knowledge of the Pentax SLR, but after comparing it with most of the SLR range I decided to buy One and take the chance. Every thing about the camera looked and felt very good and to give it the rating I have, it has peformed wonders for me. A large part of my Photography is taking photos of N guage Model Trains, and with my 28 - 80 Auto Focus Lens with a 2 x Magnifyer Lens screwed on it takes Portraights to fill 5" x 7" Photo of a Locomotive barely 3" Long & 1" tall. I cannot praise the Camera enough and from a Photographer to a Junior learner it is simple to operate and should never let you down, because if your settings are wrong it will not take the picture.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Camera
I just bought a Pentaz ZX-7 a few months ago. Since then I have taken numerous rolls of film, and I have only been satisfied with the quality of the photos.I like the fact that it has metal binding, and I like how I can take both panoramic and regular pictures. I enjoy using both the automatic mode, and the manual mode. I recommend this camera to both beginners and professionals. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic pictures! Easy to use.
My wife and I have tried to find a good point and shoot 35mm camera to replace our Konica Revio Z2 APS camera that took terrible pictures. We tried the Yashica Zoomate 140, and had ok results, but for the money, we thought we could do better. So we have tried this Pentax with 2 rolls of Fuji 400 film so far, and the pictures are superb! To get really high quality pictures, you need to use the focus-lock feature and read the manual thoroughly. Once you understand how the camera focuses, it's a snap to take amazing pictures. The color saturation is the best we've seen in any camera we've ever owned. This camera really shines in outdoor lighting, and the panorama mode takes sharp pictures. Even fully zoomed to 145mm, the pictures were crystal clear. We used the timer and a tripod and had amazing SLR-type results. For $..., this camera can't be beat. It is a little bigger than most compact cameras, but it's very sturdy. My experience with tiny cameras is that they take lousy pictures, so I was actually encouraged by this camera's more substantial size.

5-0 out of 5 stars You won't be disappointed
I am absolutely thrilled with the quality of the photographs produced by this camera. The pictures are crystal clear and resemble photos taken with an SLR camera. The camera has all the features, including red eye reduction, panoramic, date imprint, several different flash modes, and a terrific 145 zoom. Despite all the special features and settings, it's very user friendly and uncomplicated to operate. I purchased it to replace a Minolta Freedom 140 (supposedly the top of the line camera in this class...but has been discontinued), and like it better than the Minolta because it's much simpler to operate. I don't think anyone would be disappointed with the purchase of this Pentax. It takes great black and whites, too.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great pictures, comparable to my SLR camera!
I bought this camera because my SLR can be a pain to lug around. I wanted a small camera that took great shots, and that's what I got! The picture quality is excellent. The only problem with this camera is that the viewer is a bit dark and small. It takes a minute to get your eye in the right position to see the picture that you're taking. So when I was trying to catch just the right pose of a singer during a concert, I would occasionally miss it while my eye tried to get to the right spot.

Overall, I would highly recommend this camera. It has several picture taking mode, including bulb flash, special night flash, red-eye, and infinity focus for nature shots. There are just enough options to be efficient and not overwhelming. And the camera is so small and light (yet easy to hold)! ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Two Years of Excellent Pix, then it will break
I have bought two of these. The first lasted exactly two years, then stopped working. I bought another one, because the pictures it takes under almost all circumstances are fantastic. It worked for exactly two years, then ....broke! Must be planned obsolescence. Anyway, I am now shopping for a Minolta or Olympus, which hopefully will last longer. I would have given this product 5 stars for picture quality, but have deducted two because of its lack of durability.

4-0 out of 5 stars great all conditions camera for backpackers
having taken this camera on several backpacking excursions, short and long, i have found it to be both reliable and easy to use in just about any situation. i have taken the 105WR through the silty waters of the Paria river, AZ, used it in downpours, fallen in quicksand with it strapped to my pack...and it still continues to produce incredibly clear photos. however, the camera is not always color accurate due to it's focal averaging system (hence the 4 instead of 5) but for a light, DURABLE point and shoot i couldn't ask for any better. ... Amazon.com Product Description

Pentax's compact and stylish IQ Zoom 105S date camera has a versatile 38-105mm, 2.8x zoom lens that gives you maximum flexibility for framing and composing your shots. Because it covers the wide-angle to medium-telephoto zoom range, this camera is ideal for a variety of subjects and settings. The zoom macro lets you get within 2.2 feet of your subject, allowing for spectacular close-ups of flowers, birds, and insects; the possibilities are limitless. With the 10-second delay electronic self-timer, you can take a self-portrait or get into a group shot.

To ensure that you'll always know how your shot is framed, the real-image viewfinder shows the image size in relation to the zoom ratio, providing a concise preview of your finished photo, while the diopter can be adjusted to match your eyesight. A large, easy-to-read LCD panel provides setting indications for the exposure counter, battery exhaustion warning, infinity-landscape, red-eye reduction, flash-on, flash-off, slow-speed shutter, bulb, and self-timer. Since it's located on top of the camera, you can confirm your settings quickly and accurately.

The built-in flash has several modes, including flash-on, flash-off (museum mode), slow-shutter sync (sunset mode), bulb-sync (fireworks mode), and bulb (evening mode), to fit any lighting conditions. If the metering system detects a low-light situation, the flash is automatically fired to correct the illumination. To keep your subjects looking their best, the IQ Zoom 105S has a red-eye reduction feature. 1-0 out of 5 stars Bummer
My review is not a good one. The camera seemed to work find until in the middle of a birthday party it went crazy and the zoom lens froze. It would cost me $20 less than what I paid seven months ago to fix it. Junk now. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. Where's my warranty?????

4-0 out of 5 stars It was good while it lasted.
I've had my Pentax Zoom 105-R (no date feature) camera for 8 years. It was a good camera while it lasted. The red eye reduction did not work well though. It has a lot of nifty photo options but I rarely used them.

Without warning and for no apparent reason the auto focus went out. The auto focus of a zoom over approximately 12 feet is useless now. The cost to repair it is [expensive] so I'll buy a new one rather than repair this one. ... I have a Canon with interchangeable lenses that is 18 years old and it takes great photos. (The only reason we got another camera to begin with was for the auto focus feature and the compact size of the Pentax.) With the kind of mileage Canon offers, I'm going back to Canon.

5-0 out of 5 stars A cool camera!
I had experiences with a couple of cameras from different brands such as Nikon, Pentax, Canon and Samsung and frankly I had no big complain about my previous ones. I chose Pentax IQ Zoom 105s, because I was perfectlyl satisfied with a Pentax APS camera that I bought long time ago(I decided to buy new one because APS system is not sometimes convenient) and the price was competitive compare to other that has similar function.
Indeed, it didn't disappoint me, the pictures have been very clear, no blur with very vivid color in both inside and outside.
So far I didn't experience a red eye in the night. Zoom and shutter move smoothly, flash works on time and autoshot works beautifully. The drawback is it is little bigger and sturdier than the comparable ones(you can't put it in your shirt pocket) and the viewer window is little dark(But the pictures were perfectly good).
Overall, I think it is a very cool camera and recommend if interested in. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Great Camera
I have had this camera for almost 3 years now. In this time I have taken shots in a variety of settings and each time it has surprised me with amazing pics. The Auto mode is very good and usually good except in low light (twilight kind of situations). Auto focus is reasonable again except in very low light where you may need to use manual focus. Overall the Pentax Body and Pentax lens very good. You may want to buy an additional lens for telephoto requirements.

5-0 out of 5 stars I love this nice camera!!
I have owned this camera since last Christmas. It's very convenient and easy to use and picture quality is great. I have taken more than 7 rolls and have no complaint. I really like its auto mode. In particular, I was so impressed by its "night power". I went to Las Vegas and took some nice night scenens without flash. The result was more than amazing. My friend told me that the pictures looked like post cards.

One negative point is that batteries died very quickly. I don't know, however, if those that came with the camera were cheap ones. Anyway, I had to buy new ones in 4 months.

Overall, this is definitely worth getting and I am sure you will love it!!

5-0 out of 5 stars AN EXCELLENT BEGINNER CAMERA
THIS CAMERA IS WONDERFUL FOR EXCELLENT QUALITY PICTURES AND ITS EASY TO USE. I RECENTLY TOOK SOME PICTURES OF ONE OF MY FRIENDS MODELING NEAR A LAKE AND SOME PEOPLE WHO SAW THE PICTURES THOUGHT THEY WERE PROFESSIONALY DONE. THIS CAMERA TAKES GOOD CLEAR PICTURES AND IT'S WORTH EVERY PENNY. I DEFINETLY RECOMMEND THIS CAMERA TO ANYONE!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great camera!!
The Pentax ZX-7 takes most of the guesswork out of taking pictures with its autofocus system. It focuses right on your subject without you fiddling with focus in the manual mode. For someone like me, however, fiddling with focus is what I live for. It makes that fun too. The 28-80 lens is great for closeups and far aways too. The built-in pop up flash is convenient too. The weight is not too heavy either so you don't feel weighed down. It also takes most K-mount lenses (I had an old Ricoh using K-mount lenses and the Pentax uses them as well, so if you do your homework, thats a bonus as well if you have K-mount lenses than to buy new ones). It also has a hotshoe to use an external flash as well. Talk about a complete package in one. The Pentax ZX-7 is it -- you cant go wrong!

5-0 out of 5 stars great entry level camera, then some...
auto mode is great for beginners, manual operation is easy and effective as well. much better than eos rebel or n-60...best bang for the buck, go for it! ... Read more

Amazon.com Product Description

The compact and stylish Pentax IQZoom 105G date gives you a high-performance 38-105mm, 2.8x power zoom lens covering the wide-angle to medium-telephoto range. Its zoom macro function works across the entire focal range and lets you get as close as 2.2 feet to your subject, while the adjustable diopter allows you to match the viewfinder image to your eyesight. This versatility makes the IQZoom 105G date ideal for a wide variety of photographs.

Its actual-image viewfinder shows the image size in relation to the zoom ratio, so you'll have an accurate preview of your finished photo. A large LCD panel, located on top of the camera, provides you with a wide range of data on camera operations and settings, including: exposure counter, battery exhaustion warning, infinity-landscape, red-eye reduction, flash-on, flash-off, slow-speed shutter, bulb, and self timer.

Even under complicated lighting conditions, the multipattern metering system consistently gives you perfectly exposed images. When the camera's metering system detects a low-light or backlight situation, the built-in flash automatically provides fill-in illumination. The camera lets you choose from a variety of flash functions, including: flash-on, flash-off (museum mode), slow shutter sync (sunset mode), bulb-sync (fireworks mode) and bulb mode (evening mode). It also offers a red-eye reduction feature that helps eliminate most of the red-eye effect that can appear in a subject's eyes. If you want to focus on just a single element of the scene, you can switch to the IQZoom's active autofocus system, even if your subject is off-center.

If the Pentax IQZoom 105G date is left on for three minutes without being used, it automatically retracts the zoom lens to the storage position to protect it from damage and turns the power off to conserve batteries. The date feature lets you imprint the date or day and time on your photographs, ensuring that you will never forget when you took that roll of film. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Its a nice camera, I like Pentax cameras
This is my 3rd pentax and first two I already given as gifts. Its a nice camera, Nice features like red eye reduction, Ok flash, do not expect Studio pictures from point and shoot.

1-0 out of 5 stars Big Disappointment
I purchased this camara prior to our family trip to Disney World in place of our bulky Canon SLR. We had a point-and-shoot Pentax years ago that was a great camara.

What a disappointment. We basically ruined 4 rolls of film. Between the viewfinder being so far off the actual image as to make framing a shot next to impossible, the red-eye reduction that did not work and the auto-focus that wasn't, I would never purchase a Pentax again. My daughters' $30.00 point-and-shoot took better pictures.

4-0 out of 5 stars basic compact
We bought this camera as a replacement for our dead Minolta Freedom 90. The Pentax is a nice camera, takes good pictures in most settings. You need to invest time with the instructions and some film to take any action shots, and to get your indoor flash pics the way you want them. Good camera to have handy, you may want to keep looking if you're more than particular about your point and shoot.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great value for money
I had purchased this camera about 6 months back and it has shaown me wonderful results....the pictures clicked by it are just amazing! The red eye reduction in it works just great.

5-0 out of 5 stars Too Good!
I saw this camera with my friend. Not only it looks good, the pictures you take will also come out equally good!. Particularly I liked its energy consumption part. Same battery will come for more no. of rolls than any other similar camera. ... Read more
