5-0 out of 5 stars Great cartridge
I tried this non-Epson cartridge because I wanted to save some money. I figured that if I didn't like it, I could get my money back, since there is a 100% guarantee. I couldn't tell that I was using an off-brand cartridge. I highly recommend trying it. You can save alot of money and there is nothing to lose.

5-0 out of 5 stars Terrific Scanner
I've had several scanners over the years but this is the best one yet. I found it particularly good on a wide variety of photo formats, especially negatives of all common sizes. I agree with others that the Silverfast software is difficult to master but it does pretty good job after learning its quirks. Also, you print out a multipage guide on how to use Silverfast and visit their web site for online tutorials.

4-0 out of 5 stars Scanner and software
The scanner does a good job on both transparencies and negatives using the included carriers and is a relatively affordable way to digitize those older negatives and slides. The Silverfast software included is quite difficult to use, with meager, unclear documentation. Even purchasing the Taz Tally book may not be helpful, as it too is complicated and incomplete. The Epson software included with the scanner is simpler to use and gives adequate results, especially when scanning into Photoshop.

Given the choice between the standard 3200 or the pro version with the Silverfast AI software, I would now choose the standard version. The savings can be better spent elsewhere.

1-0 out of 5 stars spotty scanning
I bought the Epson 3200 Photo scanner and had problems with spotting of images scanned in the upper right hand corner of the scanning bed. After exchanging the first unit, I had the same problem with the replacement, which I returned for a refund. I would not recommend this model scanner to anyone. Shop elsewhere.

4-0 out of 5 stars Epson 3200 and Software Review
I found the Epson 3200 to be an excellent upgrade from my Epson 1640. The Epson twain and the Smart Panel software worked without any problems and the scans are great. What would improve their software is to provide a PDF file for the User Guide instead of the HTM file. What I was disappointing in was the SilverFast software. After changing a few settings the software stopped working altogether. LaserSoft, the company that makes SilverFast, does not provide any non-chargeable phone support for installation problems. Many companies offer a 30-day free installation support but not LaserSoft. Fortunately, I found a software upgrade on the Internet but it does make one wonder about quality control. Also, I found their manuals difficult to read. It appears that they were written by engineers and embellished by product management. A good technical writer and editor could certainly improve the documentation. ... Read more

Amazon.com Product Description

The PowerLite 54c from Epson is a stylish, easy-to-use projector which combines both reliability and quality. This mid-range unit is perfect for boardroom, classroom, and other presentation applications. With an SVGA native resolution of 800 x 600 as well as support for 1,280 x 1,024, 1,024 x 768, and 640 x 480 settings, this front/rear/ceiling mount projector has a 30 to 300-inch screen size. Epson's polysilicon TFT Active Matrix technology and three 0.7-inch high-aperture LCDs deliver 480,000 dots each, while 24-bit color reproduction (16.7 million shades) helps to ensure the accuracy of your projected images.

With a high 2,000 ANSI lumens of brightness and a 500:1 contrast ratio, the 54c delivers bright pictures in a variety of lighting conditions. The quick setup time and remote control operation make operation a snap. The 54c accepts a wide range of video input signals, including RGB, NTSC, NTSC4.43, PAL, M-PAL, N-PAL, PAL60, SECAM, and HDTV (480i, 480p, 720p, 1080i). A 1-Watt mono audio output adds to the impact of your presentation, while fan noise of around 38db won't drown out speech.

The remote provides control over a number of features, such as keystone, source selection, power, page up/page down, color mode, zoom, a/v mute, and freeze. It has a 20-foot operating distance with a +/- 30 degree horizontal operating angle (+/- 15 degrees vertical). A Kensington style lock provision and password protection provide increased security against theft, while the 200-Watt UHE lamp provides up to 3,000 hours of life in low brightness mode and up to 2,000 hours in normal mode.

Ideal for traveling, the 54c weighs a mere 6.4 pounds and has a small 12.41-by-9.45-inch footprint, while a soft carrying case is provided for ease of transportation. The 100 to 120V/200 to 240V +/- 10%, 50/60 Hz AC power supply consumes around 280 Watts during normal operation and around 3 Watts in sleep mode. The 54c is also compatible with both Mac and PC component video outputs, and comes backed with a two-year limited warranty.

5-0 out of 5 stars Epson 3100Z will be hard to beat
I own a different make of digital camera which was fine for its time and purpose. I researched ALL of the major makes and none of them, it seems, could match the features of the Epson 3100Z. Any that do come close are priced at least $200 higher and still don't have features I insisted on: FAST 2.0 lens; hot shoe flash; ability to use different lenses and filters; NON-PROPRIETARY batteries!!!!!; EASY to use!!; complete manual control if I wish; STANDARD Compact Flash memory; MORE than 2X optical zoom and GREAT Epson images. Well I'm not disappointed!!! This camera is fantastic. I have tested it under many different light conditions including a COMPLETELY dark room with the internal flash only and was AMAZED at the image. The menus are intuitive enough that you can start taking pictures immediately using automatic settings--which under most normal conditions are all you'll ever use. The 3X optical zoom is terrific and the digital 3X zoom is stepped in 1/10th increments for a total of 30 steps! And having bought the Epson 780EXP printer a month ago (it's GREAT too!) (...). The more I use it-the more I love it! The great MEGAPIXEL race is on. Ask yourself how large an image are you EVER going to print? Probably a 5x7 once in a while, an 8x10 once a year? Most will be 'snapshots' but THIS camera will do all of those even without using the hardware interpolation which will give you 4.8 megapixels. More than you will EVER need. I expect this to be my last camera!!

5-0 out of 5 stars What a blast for the money
(4 1/2 stars)

This camera (huh ... Epson makes a camera?) is probably the best bang for the buck in sub-$800 digital camera market. This 3.3 megapixel camera combines the best features of a heavy duty SLR camera with all the manual trimmings as well as decent automatic settings and bonus features that many cameras leave out. Some of the standouts for me are:

--47mm lens adapter for adding additional professional macro/telephoto/wide angle lenses and filters

--lots of manual capabilities (like the up to 8s shutter speed for night or even astrophotography ... something I'd love to do)

--Panorama shots - wide angle and 360 degree shots can be created by stitching together several shots. This camera provides a way to help align successive shots right in the LCD viewfinder as you're taking the pictures.

--Continuous shot mode for action sequences

--Interval mode - allows you to take shots at fixed intervals ranging from 1 second to 24 hours. The camera automatically turns itself off and on between shots to conserve power.

--10 second timer

--25 seconds of video. Always a nice feature that most digital cameras have, since we can't always lug a camcorder and camera everywhere we go. The quality is reasonable 320x200 (approximately that of VHS tape).

--Audio annotation. You can annotate your pictures with audio snippets (up to 10 seconds) using the built-in microphone.

--External flash hot shoe adapter (like professional 35mm cameras) as well as a built-in flash

--Uses standard AA batteries. Definitely get yourself a set of NiMH rechargables however.

There's plenty more, including a print matching feature. Oh yes, and the clarity and colors of the pictures are stunning.

The 3100Z is by no means a pocket camera, but I actually prefer the heaviness of it -- it allows for a steadier hand. I'm only an amateur, but I'm loving every minute with this camera, and it only makes we want to learn more and experiment with the manual settings. And, hey, it's digital, so click away to your heart's content.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Camera!
This is truly a wonderful little camera.
I do a lot of web design where I aquire all my own images as well as family photos and other such nonsense. This camera offers excellent manual control and also delivers great results using the fully automatic features. Do yourself a favor and use an Epson Photo printer for the best printing results, and get familiar with an image editor like photoshop and the sky is the limit. Appearently the product has been discontinued and I am having a hard time finding optical accessories for it. Awesome!

5-0 out of 5 stars great digital camera
This is my first digital camera. I did some research involving other 3 megapixel cameras including the highly advertised Nikon Coolpix. I found that this camera was just as good and very easy to use. I highly reccommend the 3100z!

5-0 out of 5 stars Finally settled on the best one!
It took me forever to finally settle on a digital camera. I wanted one I wouldn't regreat buying months down the line. And I found it! The 3100Z is a fantastic camera. Simple to use (complex if you want) with great image quality. I had an 8x10 printed by photoaccess.com (I prefer letting online services print my photos), and the quality was superb. The next test is an 11x14. We'll see how that goes. My only complaint is that Epson didn't include the AC adaptor, but that's a minor issue. The battery life is good enough that I haven't even needed it. I can't speak for the software, though. On my Mac (OSX) I just plugged it into the USB port and the OS handled the rest.

I won't write more detail; all the other reviews are fairly dead-on about its features. If you can get this camera, do it. You won't be disappointed. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Printer, if you know what it does NOT come with!
The printer works great! But the only downfall is the fact that the website said it would print from wireless devices and the picture showed an LCD screen that looks like it is flipped up. Too bad that they do not tell you that it will print from wireless devices IF you buy the wireless adapter. And the LCD screen is available as an additional purchase. You may think you get everything they advertise but you only get the basic package!

5-0 out of 5 stars Simply the BEST
Of course, all Epson stylus photo's produce great picture quality, are solidly built and have thoughtful easy setup directions. I've owned several Epson's and each generation just gets more amazing - both in easy of use and quality.

It's a 6-ink inkjet and it's an Epson stylus photo so I don't really need to go on about the print quality but the R300M has some great and outstanding additional features.

#1
This printer prints with the Mac/PC on or off. You can use a USB cable to plug in your digital camera or better yet, drop in your camera's memory card in one of the front slots and view using the COLOR LCD screen! And if you activate the feature, the memory card mounts on the desktop (well at least on a Mac) so you can save from having to buy a memory card reader also!

It reads CompactFlash, Microdrive, Memory Stick, SD, MMC, SmartMedia or xD so unless you own some weird Albanian format - you are set to go.

Just plug in your memory card - use the simple navigation (two minutes to learn and very clear) to set the size you want to print and what kind of paper you are using. Then just arrow up & down to view thumbnails (with a preview window of your photograph) - once you select the photograph, it fills the 2" COLOR screen so you know exactly what you are getting. Then hit PRINT and there it is. If you have a nice digital camera and your photographs are at the highest resolution - you get a print that indistinguishable from store processed.

It prints BORDERLESS 8.5" by 11" - great quality and makes your special photographs look like art.

#2
It prints on CD-R and DVD-R's. While you can certainly use Epson discs (probably a bit steeper), I did not have a lot of different types of printable media around (you get a Memorex branded freebie with the printer) but they all look fine. It depends on your needs - some look a little darker than others so you'll have to experiment a little but an incredibly easy to use feature. You simply insert a special tray - launch the Epson CD software - paste and/or type and select print. Since Epson included a Memorex CD, it's pretty obvious you can use any brand - as you might know, your choices on the CD/DVD printables are with a white background or on silver so depending on your artwork - some might look better on white - others on silver. DO NOT print on non-printable CD/DVD-R's - the ink will smear! (no, I did not have to try it to know that :-)

#3
Setup is amazingly easy and you get a nice assortment of software.

#4
I know some printers have special chips in the print cartridges that do not allow you to use 3rd party color cartridges - not the case with Epson - I've already seen 3rd party cartridges for the R300M so if you decide not to buy the Epson ink, you have other choices.

#5
Epson has a great selection of professional paper including some that will supposedly not yellow in 25 or 100 years (you choose) so you get a lot of professional options along the way.

The ONLY ONLY tiny downside is you do not get a USB cable so you will need a "B" to "A" cable - I had an extra one but if you don't, they're about $6 and up.

Other than that tiny thing - it's perfect if you want high-end print results from a $250 printer - if you want 4x6 to 8.5x11 borderless printing along with a COLOR preview window for printing with or without the computer being on - and if you want easy CD/DVD-R printing - and it's well designed and with great step by step setup instructions - this is one great printer!

5-0 out of 5 stars WOW This is The Printer to Buy!
My client Tim, the "dental guy" was in the process of marketing a dental plan in the Las Vegas area, when he advised me that he wanted to print CD cards to pass out to his clients. I purchased this Epson printer, but wasn't really sure if it could produce the professional quality he desired.

I converted his logo to a vector graphic, so it could be printed on a variety of marketing items, cups, and t-shirts. At first, I was reluctant to put the actual CD into the printer. My non-trusting techie self, wondered how it was going to come back out, since the CDs had already been burned.

I cautiously put in the CD in the tray, and went to the design program, bundled with this printer. I taught my client, how to set up the design, and WOW! The actual CD went inside the printer, and out came a professional labeled CD, in full color.

Although the speed was slower than I would have liked, and you must purchase the Epson media CD or DVD, you can retire those sticky labels that jam in other printers. If you want to send out CD media to your clients, with your logo, in full color, and do it cheaply, this is the printer to buy!

Even though, I happen to be an HP printer fan, Epson has my admiration on this printer.

2-0 out of 5 stars Easy to use but reliability poor
As a decidedly "non-computer" person, I found this camera very easy to use. I was satisfied , but not thrilled, with the picture quality, compared to my brother's digital at less than half the price. Since I had purchased the camera through Apple along with my iMac, I would have expected it to have come with a JumpShots cable compatible with the iMac. Luckily I did not go out and purchase one, as the camera did not hold up well for the relatively limited use it got. Rather than spend who know how much on repair, I am now in the market for a (non-Epson) replacement.

2-0 out of 5 stars A disappointment...
I have enjoyed my other Epson products, and was looking forward to using this camera. Unfortunately, it has been a headache from day one. The jumpshot reader is a weak link, in my opinion. I would rather have the camera usb plug into my iMac directly. The fillm disc was defective, and it took months of long distance calls to Lexar to finally resolve the problem. I will be looking for another brand of camera to replace this one. No more Epson.

5-0 out of 5 stars Almost Idiot Proof!
Been enjoying this camera for the last several weeks. Easy to use and set up, great pictures and easy to handle too! Already bought the 32mb Flashcard. Watch out though, I got it on a close out so Epson may be discontinuing the 650 line! GET ONE WHILE THEY LAST!

5-0 out of 5 stars best entry level digital camera
This little gem has done me well. It has USB, takes great pictures, comes with great software, and an 8 MB memory card. USB really makes a big difference. The performance is gobs and gobs better than the serial interface. This alone makes it worthwhile. But it takes great pictures too....

5-0 out of 5 stars This camera has been awesome!
I'm sorry to hear the trouble of the other reviewer, but this camera has been wonderful for me. I have an epson printer and I use epson photo paper and create photo albums (both hard copy and digital) of the kids for the family which frankly are better quality than the 35mm I had.

And while I love the playback feature, it's a battery eater, so I'll be picking up the electrical plug for the holidays. Also, for big picture taking opportunities, you probably should plan to buy a bigger flash card that will hold more pix. The second best resolution holds around 30 pix only and I know I usually go through more than that, though pix at that resolution print beautifully on glossy photo paper.

I do occasionally have problems with lighting and red eye, but I think it has more to do with the photographer than the camera and is pretty easily corrected in most graphics programs.

The shoot and play aspect of this is WONDERFUL! You put the usb adapter in the back of the computer, stick in your flash card and drag and drop the pix to your desktop. My family appreciates it, too, because I usually take forever getting pictures developed, copied and mailed. ... Read more

100. Epson R-D1 6.1MP Digital Rangefinder Camera (Body Only)
by Epson

Asin: B0006FU2AC
Catlog: Photography
Manufacturer: Epson
US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France | Japan

Amazon.com Product Description

Epson's R-D1 digital camera harkens back to the classic rangefinder cameras of old. A rangefinder is a type of camera that has a built-in device for measuring distance based on the principles of triangulation. Built in collaboration with Cosina, known worldwide for its optical technologies, the classically styled R-D1 offers a 6.1 megapixel resolution, support for over 200 vintage and contemporary L/M-mount lenses, 2-inch flip-out LCD monitor, hot shoe for external flash, and a 1.x viewfinder that provides automatic parallax correction.

The R-D1's 6.1-megapixel APS-C sized CCD (23.7mm x 15.6mm) captures images in two sizes: 3008 x 2000 and 2240 x 1488. It records images to either JPEG or 12-bit CCD-RAW. It features aperture priority and manual exposure modes, a shutter speed range of 1 to 1/2000 seconds, and exposure compensation of +/- 2.0 EV in 0.3 EV steps.

The R-D1 uses the world's first 1x viewfinder, enabling you to view scenes--including panoramas--through the camera as if they were looking at scenes using their naked eyes. The camera also has the advantage of improved focus precision compared to low magnification optical finders. The 2-inch flip-out-and-twist LCD has a 235K pixel resolution and features buttons for the camera's digital controls.

Other features include:

  • White balance settings: auto, sunlight, clouds, shade, incandescent, and fluorescent
  • Histogram display
  • Needle display module using four needles (image quality setting, white balance setting, frames remaining, battery level)
  • Compatibility with Secure Digital (SD) and MultiMedia (MMC) memory cards

The R-D1 is powered by a proprietary rechargeable Lithium-ion battery. It measures 5.59 x 3.48 x 1.56 inches (W x H x D) and weighs 1.24 pounds without battery and memory card.

The Rangefinder
The rangefinder type camera has been used by many of the world's greatest photographers, from photo journalists to professional portrait photographers. In keeping with that unique heritage, Epson designed the Epson R-D1 to offer all the creative possibilities of digital technology, while maintaining the precision engineering of a traditional rangefinder camera. The camera is focused by superimposing two slightly different views of a scene with the rangefinder. In general, compared to an auto-focus system, performance does not change even if lenses are swapped, and focus can be achieved quickly, accurately and with a light level that is nearly the same as the unaided eye, even in dimly lit locations. In addition, since the field of view is not blocked by the action of a shutter as it is with a single-lens reflex camera, you won't miss an important photographic moment.

What's in the Box
This package contains the Epson R-D1 digital camera, Lithium-ion rechargeable battery and battery charger, body cap, neck strap, printed user's guide, CD-ROM with drivers and software, and a tutorial on DVD-ROM. ... Read more
