Amazon.com Product Description

Hewlett-Packard's CP1160 printer combines high-quality printing with a space-saving design ideally suited for small work areas. Providing both outstanding detail and economic use of consumables, this inkjet easily earns its keep in the home office.

The CP1160 offers economical two-sided printing and a substantial 400-sheet paper capacity; media options include envelopes, labels, banners, and transparencies, as well as letter and legal bond sheets and glossy photo papers. Print speeds exceed those of a typical home printer, with the CP1160 churning out monochrome documents at 17 pages per minute and 16 pages per minute in color.

The quality is superb, producing impeccably crisp text and color-saturated photos at a maximum 2,400 by 1,200 dpi resolution. Each rich color resides in a separate ink tank, meaning you only have to replace the specific colors as you use them.

With a built-in USB port for plug-and-play operation with your PC, the printer also boasts infrared connectivity, support for both Windows and Macintosh operating systems, and optional networking capabilities. Hewlett Packard provides a limited warranty, covering parts and service for one year. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars If you can afford it, don't hesitate.
I've started up a small newsletter recently that has some complex layouts and lots of hi-res graphics, but also a lot of small text. The history of consumer-grade printers has been that to get the clean text, you have to give up the good photo output, and vice/versa. This printer throws all that away. It does it all. In fact, the text is so sharp my printouts were better than the commercial printer I had run it off.

Its also a very attractive unit. People always say "is that a printer?" Not that it matters that much, but it does look cool.

Bottom line: if you need top-notch quality in both photos and text, and have the [money], do it. If you're just printing your everyday text docs and/or photos, you can get everything you need in a cheaper model.

5-0 out of 5 stars HP IS ALWAYS GOOD, BUT THIS ONE KICKS ...!
I'VE HAD IT FOR ABOUT 2 MONTHS SO FAR. I RUN LARGE PRINT JOBS ON IT MAKING BROCHURES FOR MY COMPANY. MY TYPICAL RUN IS ABOUT 250 SHEETS DUPLEXED (BOTH SIDES PRINTING) COLOR AND GRAPHICS AND SOME PHOTOS....ONLY 2 SHEETS CAME OUT WRONG. ONE OF THEM HAD SOME LETTERS WACKO AND EXPANDED, THE OTHER PRINT TOOK TWO PAGES IN AT ONCE.

PROS:
1. IT PRINTS REALLY FAST.
2. IT HAS GREAT GRAPHICS.
3. TEXT LOOKS GREAT,...
4. IT DUPLEXES AWESOME...YOU CAN CONFIGURE HOLD TIME BETWEEN
DUPLEXING SO THAT ONE SIDE CAN DRY BEFORE IT TAKES IT BACK IN
TO PRINT THE OTHER SIDE.
5. YOU CAN CHANGE LOTS OF THE CONFIGURATION OPTIONS ON IT
LIKE INK AMOUNT, QUALITIES, SPEEDS, IMAGE ENHANCEMENTS...

CONS:
1. IT SHAKES LIKE A WASHING MACHINE. LOL. I SWEAR TO GOD IT DOES. IF YOU HAVE A GOOD TABLE, IT SHOULD BE FINE.
2. IT GUZZLES INK, BUT DON'T WORRY, IF YOU HAVE HALF A BRAIN, YOU CAN CHANGE THE INK RICHNESS SETTING AND IT'S JUST FINE. PLUS INK IS CHEAP NOW ... EVERYWHERE FOR THIS PUPPY.

CONCLUSION:
BUY THIS PRINTER. IT LOOKS COOL, IT DOES THE JOB RIGHT THE FIRST TIME, AND IT HAS TONS OF OPTIONS TO GET YOUR JOB RIGHT.

5-0 out of 5 stars This is the best printer I have ever used
I have had my CP1160 now for about 3 years, first for small scale home office/graphics use, which it is fantastic at. And now as a full time PhD student--running tons of PDFs and text document through it. In both capacities, this printer has been amazing. Even now, after it's been discontinued by HP and the inkjet market has really taken off, it's still the best thing out there. I wouldn't trade it in for the world.

The text quality on this printer is fantastic... even as small as 8 points in footnotes. Always clear, even at low quality settings. It runs graphics beautifully--clean, clear, crisp. Autoduplexing is a god-send, although a little slow. It never EVER paper-jams, something that I am still surprised at the way I abuse this thing. It takes thick cardstock, envelopes, labels, everything.

Plus, for what is a relatively large inkjet these days, it has a flat-top which means you can stack things on top of it and it runs just fine. HP says you can handle 40 lbs on top of it--I don't know how much weight I've stacked on it but it never blinks an eye.

It's been moved, stacked, stored, driven across country in the back of a van, and it's perfect. It even fell off a shelf once and still prints really well.

The only negative things I've found is the shaking. Somebody else said it shakes like a washing machine and that's true. It needs a sturdy place to live. But it's quiet, prints great and is well-designed. No curvey bubbley looking design that dates its shape. Also, for the amount of printing I do now (about 5000 a month, the high end of its recommended use) it uses relatively little ink. Just make sure to continually check ink usage settings and don't use the high resolution mode unless you need it. Honestly, on photos if you use photo quality paper, the Normal setting is almost nearly as crisp and vivid as the high resolution.

If you can find one of these printers, buy it. If I find another, I'll buy it just so that I won't ever have to use another printer. My laser does nothing but collect dust. This printer can beat the output of a home laser without any problem.

1-0 out of 5 stars Expensive disappointment
Recently, our small business purchased this printer to speed up our label printing ability, assuming that a faster, more expensive printer would actually be an upgrade. We were sorely mistaken.
This printer ruins one out of every 5 sheets of labels, requiring that someone "babysit" the device for it to work properly. The same problem occurs when printing mulitple pages at a time on regular paper.
Often, it will not print anything, sending the error message that the ink cartridge cannot move, which then moves upon hitting the cancel button, with a loud snap and grinding noises.
To add further insult, after contacting HP's customer service (and waiting on hold for over 30 minutes), we were rudely told that their printer doesn't claim to be able to print labels, so it's our problem.

The CP1160 is a constant source of frustration, intensified by it's high cost. If you're looking to upgrade your small business printer, I strongly caution you against purchasing this one.

After this experience, our company will never purchase another HP product again, ever. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Inkjet Review
I have owned many HP products and this is one of the best. The quality is excellent and the speed good. If you are looking for something more than a personal deskjet printer and need or are considering one that can be networked, this is it. The only detraction for me was the paper sizes. It's limited to legal and I was hoping to do small posters.

3-0 out of 5 stars My Squeeky 2250PS after 2 years... (review)
I bought my 2250PS from [a local store] back in January 2001 and its been a reliable old mule over the past 24 months. It's started squeeking when printing. Surprisingly, it doesn't do it every time I print; only occassionally. Also, like ALL HP printers, the rollers are starting to pull two sheets of paper when I try to print on anything exotic. I need to get in there with denatured alcohol and clean those rollers with qtips. My buddy did it on his Epson and it worked great. Highly recommended if you inherit an HP printer.

Definitely go to the HP site and get the latest drivers. ...

Type in 2250 and click the little arrows.

The 2250 PCL driver can do amazing things -- print 4 pages on one page; the PostScript driver can also print amazingly accurate Illustrator proofs.

The printer honestly is somewhat of a workhorse. I am definitely keeping this printer until it dies or I die (whichever comes first). My next printer however will be an Epson photo printer for printing photos. The 2250 certainly does a great job printing photos on HP paper. But it really was designed for printing Web pages and documents.

Recommendation: definitely print on good inkjet paper; don't just steal crummy copier paper from work! The 92 brightness Epson paper and the 108 brightness HP paper is beautiful. And come on, you're worth it!

4-0 out of 5 stars HP 2250....not the workhorse I wanted but.....
I had used an HP IIP for at least five years and was finally to a point of each repair was at least a hundred dollars. The HP IIP is the same as you might see "Jessica Fletcher" use on "Murder She Wrote" at the beginning of the program. That was a great laser printer, a workhorse. When I decided to take the leap and purchase another, I asked the salesman for a color inkjet printer that would be yet another workhorse. The HP 2250 appears cheaper than the HP IIP, but it produces a quality copy. I find the speed to be adequate, but the only drawbacks I have concerning the printer is the cost of replacement cartridges and the unit is somewhat noisy and actually vibrates the maple table where it sits. I still would recommend this inkjet, although, if you don't need a color printer, I would opt for a less costly laser printer instead. The only advantage for me is the color copy capabilities.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good printer if you download the drivers
This is a good printer, Quality is nice, self-aligns for those of us who can't read one of those printer alignment sheets if our lives depend on it. Some notes for good function/performance:
1. Don't use the drivers shipped with it. Connect to the HP web site and download the latest drivers.
2. Use it in PCL5 or Postscript mode. The native mode eats computer processor cycles like there is no tommorow.
3. The print quality directly affects the lifespan of the cartridges. Note that it ships with a low capacity black cartridge. Go out immediately and order the 69ml replacement and you should get several thousand pages of print on normal pages. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars 2500cm a good substitute for color laser
So far after using for several months I've been satisfied with its performance. Easy to setup out of the box though had to install the software a couple of times before getting it to work on the network. Great for wide format B-size drawings. Ink cartridges easy to work with and ink is dry by the time the paper hits the tray. Colors are crisp and text is sharp. Quiet operation compared to laser printers. Much easier to maintain than a laser.

2-0 out of 5 stars HP 2500...has many problems
The HP 2500, while a good printer, is in the midst of several quality control problems. Several problems have occurred with the 9 that we have. Ink systems reading levels incorectly, squeaking components, and slow network printing. Print quality does not appear to be a problem. However, the many bugs in these HP printers still need to be worked out. HP has acknowledged the problems and at present do not have a fix for them. However, I am sure that they will in the future. If you do not need wide paper capability, I would suggest the HP 2250TN. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Best printer investment I have made.
One year and 40,000 printed documents later this printer still works as well as it day it arrived. I use the 2500 as my network printer as well as producing full color documents, flyers, posters, etc. My particular printer broke down the second week of operation due to a design flaw in a cam which pumped the ink jets. HP was aware of the design flaw and replaced the part within 24hrs and I haven't had one problem since. I still have other printers within my network which include other HP and Epson ink jets and have really come to appreciate the larger ink jet cartridges. The 2500 (as well as all 2000 series) use much larger ink jet cartridges which actually cost less than smaller Epson and HP cartridges. I haven't done a study, but I would suspect I may have paid for this printer already in per page cost (even after replacing the print heads three times). If you are looking for a high speed ink jet that can handle heavy volumes of printing you can't go wrong with the HP 2500.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very Good Printer
Excellent print quality and very good print speed. However, the PCL 3 driver that comes standard with the printer is slow and error prone. We added the PCL 5 driver card and 32 MB of memory to get good performance out of the machine. We also added the Post Script card - but unless you absolutely have to have Post Script don't bother as it is also slow. If the machine had come with the PCL 5 card and more memory it would have been 5-stars.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wide-format wonder...
I bought this model in April 1999. Almost a year later, I am still VERY pleased with the performance. I publish a weekly color newsletter, and print it on the 2500C, over 600 pages printed a week. It is a virtual workhorse! Downtime has been almost non-existant (one service call in a year, with the repair completed the day after I called for service!) The printing is crisp, the color beautiful, the best you can get from an inkjet. Ink cartidges are not all-in-one, so you only replace the color you need. I would recommend the 2500C to anyone. Two bugs: 1. The bottom tray frequently mis-feeds on the first copy of a print job. You have to pull out the bottom paper tray, remove the mis-fed sheet, then replace the tray. After that, the remainder of the job will print trouble-free. 2. On occasion, something wacks out with the tray selection. You will select which tray you want to print from via the print screen, but the printer does not obey. Only way to fix this is to turn the printer off and then on again to re-initialize. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Very Good Unit
I have had this printer for more than a week and for it low cost it has been very good!On initial printing start up it's a little noisy but NOT BAD compared to other low cost models.Easy installation, lightweight.Print quality is very good in text and color prints are real nice.,remember...this is not a top of the line printer so don't look for razor sharp photos.I mainly use it for text with no problem. If your looking for a decent printer this unit should do.I have had cannon and lexmark but this is better for me.The HP prints quietly. If it ever dies on me in the future i'd get another one. It's low price is a plus!Who needs a printer with all the bells and whistles just to mainly print!I'd give it 5 stars but i don't print photo's much so it get's 4 stars. ... Amazon.com Review

Hewlett-Packard has made setting up home printers a precise science, reducing both confusion and time, resulting in a delightful experience with the DeskJet 960Cse. With the cable and cartridges in place and the power cord connected, we installed the driver software, calibrated the printer, and printed a test page. The entire process was intuitive, took only 20 minutes, and did not require consulting the manual.

In our tests, monochrome printing of basic office documents and envelopes turned out exceptionally well. The text was sharp, and the ink dried quickly without smudging. We also printed an assortment of color documents and Web graphics, and the 960Cse performed admirably; color fixed well to the paper without bleeding. However, when printing color photos from a digital camera, we needed to adjust the printer's photo enhancement settings to get the best quality. The driver software walked us through a variety of options to improve brightness and contrast. At 2,400 x 1,200 dpi, our color photos were sufficiently clear.

The printer comes with a sample paper pack that includes several sheets of HP professional brochure and flyer paper and HP premium photo paper. The paper loads easily into a convenient slide-out tray that accepts standard, large, and custom media sizes. The printer also comes with a power cord, CD-ROM, and color and black inkjet cartridges, and it is PC and Mac compatible. You'll need to provide your own parallel or USB printer cable.

Overall, we were impressed with the DeskJet 960Cse's color print quality, quick setup, simple operation, and helpful software. --Alexis Odell ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars TERRIBLE PRINTER
I've had this printer for a while now, and i rarely can get it to work properly. When it is not taking 2 pieces of paper at a time, it is printing in some strange code. The quality of the picture is alright, but nothing special. I would highly recommend not to buy this printer

5-0 out of 5 stars Flawless.
This printer worked like a champion. I retired it for a 2230 and later for a cp1700. I made countless prints off it. Never had it fail me, misfeed or so much as tell me no. I bought the duplexer and loved that thing too! I wish I had one for this CP1700. The ink prices and refilling the carts are the only complant I have. But it is what it is. All desktop printers are designed to make there bosses money. When you buy a printer you are buying a subscription to ink. Though compared to everything else on the market in it's class the 960 is the champion. If I had to estimate the page count I put on that little machine I'd have to say about 12,000 pages in color over a 1 year period, at least 1,000 pages per month. Most everything I print is full page color. It sucks that HP doesn't make them like the 900 series anymore.

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't do it!
I've had HP printers for years and have always liked them. However, this printer is a real headache. We've had 3 --taking the time for returns was a hassle. With each of these HP printers, the paper feed mechanism has been defective. With every document I printed, the feeder malfunctioned and the paper was torn or badly misaligned. I found out on the HP website that others have had similar problems with a number of HP printers--malfunctioning paper feeds. HP has done nothing to correct this problem. I've now become a Canon printer owner am quite happy with Canon printers--excellent quality and no problems. I'll never buy another HP printer.

3-0 out of 5 stars color ink cartridge
I've had this printer for about a year. About every 3 months I need to change the color ink cartridge when I don't even use it. I've called support and they didn't help me at all. I changed the black ink and when I print something, nothing comes out on the paper. On the printer it shows 3 circles on top and 4 on the bottom. I can't keep buying color ink cartriges every 3 months. What do I need to do?

1-0 out of 5 stars Goes "Haywire" Regularly
Setup was easy enough, but this printer routinely goes haywire, spitting out a whole cartridge load of paper and refusing to print. I have tried it with several different PCs, with this same intermittent weird behavior. Only a reset of both the printer
and the computer seem to fix everything.

I'm off to buy an Epson! ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Paper handling is poor
This printer looks great on paper but we had numerous & continuing problems w/the paper handling. There was a firmware change & that seemed to help but paper keeps getting coming out in bunches & output print gets scattered & totally unusable. At times it has been a disaster.

5-0 out of 5 stars Works with Linux
HP has a reputation for making great printers and this is no exception. This printer works just as advertised. I downloaded the ghostscript driver for this printer from hp.sourceforge.net, recompiled ghostscript following the directions included with the documentation, and have been happily printing since. The downloaded source for the driver does not say it offers full feature printing, but it's close enough for me and probably most applications where this printer will be used, without having to purchase the PCL/PS upgrade or the jet direct print server. If you are looking for a economical, but heavy duty printer, this is it. Just spend a few minutes downloading and compiling and it works for Linux too.

5-0 out of 5 stars HP 2200cxi
We own several 2200cxi's and all have performed great so far. My only complaint would be that they don't do double sided printing.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not worth the money spent
The HP 2250 produces high-quality pictures in slightly less than the promised time. Installation is somewhat difficult (HP only provides a double-sided sheet with pictures) and various driver downloads are required before the printer will actually function (without the driver download, the paper will not feed properly). The HP 2250 proves to be tempermental and prints out a tester page everytime you need to print anything. There is a small screen on the printer, which is supposed to indicate ink levels (there are four separate ink cartidges), however, my screen remains blank. HP generally produces excellent printers, but stay away from this one. Too many glitches. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Not Impressed
I own an HP 895cxi which IS a wonderful printer. My son was having a lot of trouble with his HP 672 so I decided to give him my HP 895 and buy a new printer. The 990cxi seemed very similar to the 895cxi with some interesting upgrades, the customer reviews were fairly impressive and Amazon.com had a good price...with free shipping.

I bought a USB cable and a hub and connected the printer. I had some trouble installing the software. It hung at some points and I had to reboot and re-install a few times. Once I got it up and running I did some quick test prints and the text output was fine. But I really judge a printer by it's photo output. I take a lot of digital pictures and want a printer that delivers in this area. The 990cxi advertising pushed the concept of the automatic paper selector and color management. Well, it is awful. Simply atrocious. The only way to get at least the same quality picture from the 990cxi is to disable those features and select your paper and color manually. Just like the 895cxi. So, the bottom line is, if you can find the 895cxi, you will save about $150 over the 990cxi and have great quality text and photo output. Do not buy the 990cxi for it's advanced features. It is NOT worth it!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars This printer still kicks booty - In a good way
Well I've had this printer for over a year, along with another I purchased for a gift and they have yet to let us down. I don't print very often but when I do I am still amazed at the quality and speed (considering the price point). The ink cartridges also seem to last a good while. My only complaint is uncertainty about the amount of ink remaining; Sometimes the HP Toolbox is just wrong. I'd like a definite way of knowing how much ink is remaining, but other than that I am still happy with this puppy.

1-0 out of 5 stars It's driving me nuts!
If you want to print only 8.5 x 11 sheets of paper, you're fine with this printer. But if you want to print ANY OTHER paper size or thickness, stick to an Epson. The rollers on this printer are horrible. Plus, you can only print from the sizes listed in the drop-down - unless I just got a total dud. I tried to do custom paper sizing and it would not work at all. It crinkles envelopes left and right. I do a lot of specialty printing (invitations, etc.) so I need to be able to print on all types of paper and paper sizes. This printer is useless as was HP's customer service when I wrote in about my problem. Basically, HP banked on people only wanting to print photos or text papers on full size paper in the colors on the screen. They never tested their additional features that come with the printer like custom paper sizes and printing in grayscale (which crashed my computer).

And personally, I don't think the picture print quality is even that good. I can see lines in my pictures and I have my digital camera set to the highest setting and I'm printing with HP's photo settings. It didn't do that in the store. Hmmm. The only thing I like is the auto-double siding but I'll turn over a stack of papers to print the backs on an Epson any day.

4-0 out of 5 stars HP 990 cxi
I have owned this printer for a year now, and appreciate the ease with which it handles double sided print jobs. Unlike other HP printers I do find that I change the ink more often than I have with other HP printer products. Does anyone have any information on the recall of this product?

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Text, Photos and Gray Scale Output! Cons: Read Below
I just hooked this printer up last week after receiving it as a gift, purchased right here at Amazon. The free shipping made it the best price on the net at the time of purchase a couple of weeks ago. Win XP found a driver right off the bat, but you should install the latest driver from the HP web site as I did for the best performance. Smooth Installation!! I have an HP952C that I have been using for a couple of years now. The output of this HP990CXI is basically the same as the much older 952C for photos printed in 1200x2400/best mode on photo paper. (952C now only costs around $125.00 if you look around) It uses the same model ink tanks as the 952C.

This printer really stands out on the output speed. Don't believe the speeds you read in ads or even on the box. Those speeds are in draft mode output. I print most of my text in draft mode now with this 990CXI on (standard copy machine paper)and you would have thought it came right out of a laser printer. I could not believe that! Very nice job HP. Speed and quality even in draft mode, but that is for black and white text only! Any other printing you do should be set to normal for great output but there goes the ppm output speed. It falls to a much slower rate. I have been a digital photo freak for a few years now. The only way to print great looking photos on either of these printers is to use photo-matte or photo-glossy paper. The speed is noticeably faster than the 952C when set on 1200x2400 / best output. But not an extra $160+ worth of speed over the 952C cost. I prefer the matte paper as it dries quickly, never leaves any finger prints from handling the pictures and just looks better in my opinion.

CON: The 990CXI is suppose to automatically select the printer paper for you. Paper, best settings etc. for the print job at hand. This printer FAILS HORRIBLY in doing so. Horrible, Horrible, Horrible.. This printer driver and or printer gets an "F" in that department from me. May be a new driver when released will cure this set back, but I would not bet on it.

Besides the above mentioned complaint, this printer is an excellent choice for the home or small business user that demands superior quality in their printing needs. I gave this 990CXI a 4 out of 5 star rating due to the fact that the paper selector does not work and I did not have to pay for it. If I had to pay my own money for it I would have gave it a 3 out of 5 stars. Why pay hard earned money for something that does not work as advertised?? I would wait a year or so for the price to fall $100.00 less than it is now before I spent my hard earned money on this printer. The price will fall quickly, as they always do in the computer industry. If you want to be able to say that you have the latest and greatest speed wise (sold as not networkable, but it can be done with extra hardware) printer HP has to offer, this is for you. Hope this review helped.. From a fellow techie to you. Happy Holidays!! ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars So far so good
The HP 610cl is my first printer... it was a gift. I've ran 2 copies so far and haven't had any problems yet. If the same holds true I'll be looking for a new one come the end of February.Maybe HP ought to have a recall the same way GM has with all its vehicles.

1-0 out of 5 stars Very Bad
I have boughten one of these and am not happy with it. It breaks easy and way to slow, it proves you get what you pay for.

2-0 out of 5 stars A run of the mill printer
There is really nothing "great" about this printer. The ink is [costly] and hard to find. It is noisy and slow. The output is decent. I recieved my printer from Dell as a freebie when I purchased a new system. I really wish that I had paid the extra money to upgrade to a higher quality product.

1-0 out of 5 stars Be ready for plastic parts flying out of the printer
My experience with HP deskjets has been sobering, to say the least. I have had this 'interesting' little machine for nigh on 1 1/2 years now, and the thing has been seizing up on me since three months after I got it (and I'm the only one who uses it). Not only does it take nearly a bloodhound search through the software to find a way to make it print decently in color, but then it goes and snaps a plastic part on you. It prints so violently and loud that you're afraid things are going to come flying out at your from the printer as they break off. I was able to 'adapt' to its moody ways in the beginning -- like whenever it ran out of paper it would seize up completely and I'd have to cancel what I was printing and shut down the printer entirely to get it back in shape.

What I've experienced isn't a fluke -- the HP printer I had before met its maker pretty early on, too. Do yourself a favor and buy some piece of junk from Wal-mart -- it's much more worth it than spending your pennies on this thing.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellant printer for the price
Been using for over a year and have not had one problem. Very cheap on ink. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Beware! They look nice, but filled with design flaws.
A year ago my company bought 300 of these printers. Since then, HP has had to replace 30% of the sheet feeders -- an obvious design flaw. Luckily they are still paying for those out of warranty. We also have had to send more than 20% of them back to HP for repair -- flashing ink cartridge light (even on fresh cartridge), won't print. HP is NOT paying for these now. Instead, they charge us [price](+ shipping) for each repair, plus downtime. We are going to try a Canon printer next. Most everything else HP makes, including the fabulous Jornada's our reps use, are good quality. But these Deskjet 350s obviously have serious design flaws. HP won't step up to the plate and help with repairs; so here is my NEGATIVE review.

3-0 out of 5 stars Windows XP
I bought this printer with the "kit" since it was the only one that actually came with a battery. The paper feeder is clumsy, especially when compared to a Canon.

I ran into soem trouble installing it with Windows XP. I tried using the IR port and the HP 350 driver that came with XP (the driver on the supplied CD-ROM will NOT work with XP). It printed out as if it was a double image of everything. I called HP (after having sent one printer back for a similar problem) and after some experimentation, they suggested I tried using the HP 320 driver. That did the trick, no more problems. But, the printer is only a few days old.....

1-0 out of 5 stars Is it a really printer?
This is the printer it design is not to print.Paper jam, stupid characters etc.etc.

Really I recommend to collect all product from market.

3-0 out of 5 stars Hp 350C is great for travel.
The only problem that I have is trying to find the Infra Red device and the batteries that should come with it anyways. $... is a lot of money for a little printer that you have to change the ink cartrige to print color. No problems with it yet. Bob

2-0 out of 5 stars Pathetic with photo paper, OK with everything else.
This printer's plusses are that it can print 11 x 17, and it prints text at a fairly fast clip. The biggest minus is trying photo paper in this lemon. If it doesn't jam in the printer, it slips, meaning that 1/4 of your 8x 10 ends up off the page. You can imagine the cost of throwing out photo paper can be pretty expensive. I've never printed a successful photo with this thing.

This printer also has PostScript capabilities as well, which is a small plus if you prepare stuff for the print shop.

I have an HP PhotoSmart 1115 with the opposite problem - great with photo paper, horrible with office paper. I just don't think HP is getting it right.

1-0 out of 5 stars Worst printer ever made.
You do not want this printer. Paper pickup is unpredictable, color image is poor (even with new cartridges), and it occassionally just shuts OFF.

4-0 out of 5 stars a terrific machine
I've read all of the assessments below, and I must say that they don't reflect my experience. Then again, I'm using it with the Mac OS. I use it primarily for large format printing of musical scores, which are quite graphics intensive. I also now do a lot of photo printing. With music layout, it has performed brilliantly, producing copy that I find to equal that from professional houses. I've also found the photo production to be very fine, though at the best setting it will perform slower than some prefer. (This doesn't bother me.) There is also an occasional paper slippage when using glossy. (This does bother me, but hasn't occurred with enough frequency to damn the machine.) I've had no problems with the computer communicating with the machine.

All told, a terrific machine. I'd buy it again.

2-0 out of 5 stars An update on my previous review
Frustration has driven me to write another review, this time based solely on the "special" features of this printer.

As I said before, it still works fine on the regular stuff - letters, e-mail, documents, even envelopes, other than the problem with having to press the "resume" button to print them. That's what the 2 star rating is about. If you look beyond the mundane - it's a ZERO star rating or less.

Printing anything out of the ordinary has become a major pain, which seems to be getting worse as the printer gets older.

Any paper that is even slightly glossy is now slipping on the rollers - not all the time, but enough to drive you mad, especially when you need to print something in a hurry. The printer also gets quite upset when you try to cancel the print, even when you use the button designed for this purpose.

The paper wastage is tremendous after a job is spoilt due to the slippage, because not only do you lose the special paper you put in, but also a ton of regular paper, as the machine continues to spew out reams of gibberish in protest. Having to reboot the machine to solve a print error is totally ridiculous. This is a recurring problem with HP printers in my experience.

If you do most of your printing on cardboard, glossy paper, transparencies or other special paper, think twice before buying this printer, as it can send you stark staring crazy in a very short time.

1-0 out of 5 stars Real Disappointment.
I've had color printers since they first came out..... I've worked in IT Out Sourcing since the mid 70's and have worked with, used, set up and trouble shot thousands of printers of every make, brand and price range.... For many years, HP has been a great maker of printers... not always the best price, out always the most features, and not always the highest resolution... but a printer that did a great job, was dependable and had a great company willing to help you out with any problem..... When I brought this 1220C, I found out how far HP has come down in the printer world. The electronics for the cartridges misfires, a call to HP gets you a guy in India, that wants $25 to talk to you...(like talking is going to help bad wiring)... Oh,,, you've had this for 60 days... not our problem ! Back to Epson for me.... ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars HORRIBLE PRINTER
I have had this printer for maybe 2 years and the first day I got it.... it was printing sort of fast but now.... it takes maybe 1 page per minute only with black and white! If you print in color it takes for 2 or 3 minutes! I suggest to you that this is a horrible printer and that you should not buy this printer unless you want to have a REALLY slow printer!

4-0 out of 5 stars I'm even using recycled paper!
I don't agree with the previous two commenters. I used 640C for 3 years without the smallest trouble. I'm even using recycled paper. But the woman cleaning the house fell it to the ground. I will now by the same model again.

1-0 out of 5 stars I rate this product is below than 0. Shouldn't buy this prod
I definitely agree with V Brown. This is beyond question the WORST printer I have ever owned. Hewlett Packard should know this already but nothing improved!!!. Why I could say this? Coz I have sent it twice for servicing in the service center but it came with the same problem.
I cannot print a simple job over two pages to completion. It
jams and cannot feed paper correctly. I have jumped through
every hoop conceivable and nothing resembling a decent output
over two pages even worst that I have to restart all over again the computer to ensure that I could print again. This is to alarm you all. Do not waste your money!!!

3-0 out of 5 stars Has limits
This printer has wonderful color presentation, but, the memory is alittle short. It allows you to print short documents of the internet, and email with no problem, but lengthly documents need an HP with more memory. But, I like it. It will suffice for now. ... Read more
