5-0 out of 5 stars A FAST AND RELIABLE INKJET FOR HIGH VOLUME PRINTS
I work in an engineering firm and we use for our A4 color prints both a color laser ( xerox phaser 6250 ) and the HP 3000.
We have the 3000 since two years and we have printed around 80000 pages without troubles, except for an input tray which had to be substituted.
The 3000 is very fast ( even if not so much while printing on hp special papers ) and everybody appreciate both the reliability while printing and the network installation which has been absolutely trouble free.
I love it since I can print ACAD files ( covers of our papers ) and JPEG photos without thinking whether this time the driver will work well or not, whether I'll have a paper jam or the ink will smuggle.
I have had only some troubles with some HP photo papers ( it smuggled ) , whereas with HP brochure papers it works perfectly.
On the contrary the xerox 6250, which costs much much more than the HP 3000, even if it incredibly fast and the laser quality is better than inkjet for printing graphs and chart bars, is not very appreciated since it has great problems with the PCL driver, it has much more paper jams and the cost of the
consumables is extremely higher. We also have a HP 2600 which is a very poor product.
If you need a fast and reliable inkjet for high volume prints go in a network environment, I think you'll be very happy with it.

1-0 out of 5 stars POOR POOR Product
I have to say, I have been a loyal HP fan, and I picked this printer to replace my old 2000 model, which I loved. I wanted a HIGH capacity ink machine, that would do color printing without the constant cartridge change of less professional models. This printer (my second one) is nothing but an albatross. It has never worked right from day one. The first one, which was exchanged for this new one, was defective, shook the table apart and never was able to get going. The new one is worse. The on off button does not work until it feels like it, it jams paper, it bands the colors completely missing some spots of color, it is WAY too noisy, it prints in jerking steps and comes out of the machine in jerks, print quality is somewhat grainy, nothing like the quality I have come to expect from HP printers. I have an emergency $29.00 HP models Inkjet 3520 that has FAR superior print ability. Shame on HP! POOR POOR design. I am still awaiting a return for this one! I would recommend you DO NOT get this machine, as it is a dinosaur.

5-0 out of 5 stars I love it.
This printer works great for me. I find the quality is good enough for me to use draft mode for printing fliers. The printer has great print quality (for a non-Photo printer) and is exceptionally fast. There are four separate print cartriges which have remtoe print heads to printing is relatively econominal. One thing to note is that the printer senses when the print cartrige is empty and will stop printing. This isn't a problem for me, but it might be for people tring to refill cartriges or who want to stretch the print cartriges to the end. Also, the printer can get pricey if you purchase bundled with the duplexor and the print server options.

1-0 out of 5 stars Lasted about a year
HP really put out a dud with this model. Unless you use the super expensive HP branded paper, the ink will smudge..even after a week. Also, constant jams and bent edges. Local HP Authorized repair place unable to fix it. Printer is very loud (fans and paper path mechanisms). I will give it credit for having nice print quality, but I would not purchcase this unit ever again. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Extremely noisy and ink cartridges too small
Others have mentioned that the ink cartridges are smaller (20 ml.) than other printers that use 42 ml. cartridges. Since the small cartridges cost the same as the large ones, you will lose the savings you made by buying this cheeper printer after you've bought only a few cartridges. I'm a student, and have bought maybe 12 cartridges in the last 2 years. At almost [$] a cartridge, the difference adds up fast. Also, if you are a person that likes to use a highlighter, the ink from these cartridges will smear when you use a highlighter over it...very messy looking. The ink from the HP 45 cartridges doesn't seem to smear like that, but you can't use that size with this printer. Your only choice for black ink is the HP 20 cartridge.

I don't think it is possible to emphasize enough the noise this thing makes. It's probably four times louder than other printers I've used. It has awakened family members sleeping in adjacent rooms, so if you were planning to use the printer at night, be aware that you'll have to save printing for the morning in order for others to sleep.

If you live alone (and not in an apartment), only plan to print a few pages every now and then, and are not a student, writer, or in business, this might be an ok printer for you. It is very easy to set up.

5-0 out of 5 stars What's important to me in a printer?
The lack of paper jams is important to me in a printer. This one keeps it to a minimum. I won't say it hasn't happened, but not for ages. The print quality is excellent too. The two cartridges you need, though not cheap, last a good long while too (they run around $30 each, give or take a couple of bucks here and there). In summary, the lack of paper jams, the quality of printing and the availability of the cartridges (moreso now than two years ago) makes this a good buy.

1-0 out of 5 stars Nothing but probs
Ok for regular black and white printing on paper. However, anything more than that and the printer frequently failed. Colors were not that good, photos - forget it and card stock, envelopes, etc., frequently jammed. Ink runs out without warning.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Pretty Good Printer
This is the only printer I've ever had but I've had it for two years now without a single problem so I guess it's safe to say that the durability factor is up to par. The quality of color pictures print out with amazing clarity and the black ink hardly ever smears. My only complaint about the Hewlett Packard Deskjet 612c is how expensive the ink cartilages are compared to other more luxurious printers. I'm hardly complaining, though, because the price of this and the quality that comes with it is overall a very good deal. You'll definitely get your money's worth with this machine and I wouldn't trade it for any other... At least for this price.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great for the price
I have had this printer for over a year and have had no problems. The ink products are very easy to find, especially online at hp.com. The cartridges have been renamed however, C6614A is now called HP 20 their basic black ink cartridge. This information is easy to find on the hp.com web site. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars My printer died too.
My printer died last night. Searching for a solution, I found these posts describing the exact same problem with the carriage. Its very disappointing because I purchased it for the HP name. I used it minimally-- not more than 50 printed pages. I would not recommend this product.

1-0 out of 5 stars Broke on me too!
I have had this for under 1 year, and the same thing happened to me! I googled hp 3420 and found this, and now I see what happened, little plastic piece broke and, like the other lady, I can fix things, but this isn't fixable.
what a rip off HP.
I only bought this since I could refill the ink myself, ( many of the new ones won't let you!) but Im very dissapointed that they haven't issued a recall or offered to replace these, when obviously everyone is finding the same problem, and it is defect in thier product!

1-0 out of 5 stars Broken Gear
Mine spit a broken gear at me in the 6th month. I'm bummed because I had bought 2 cartridges that will probably sit around until they dry out.

1-0 out of 5 stars Rip off
This printer is designed to waste ink! You do not have the option of printing only in black ink, so if you print from the internet, you waste colored ink on things you don't want in color.

This printer will not operate without a full color cartridge. Obviously, this was designed to make you keep buying more cartridges. It was not designed for your convenience or ease of use.

I've used an Epson Stylus Photo 700 since 1997, it has the option of using a black ink default. You control if you print in color or black and white.

This printer is fast and the copy is decent, but an obvious ink rip off and I'm not impressed with HP and their ink selling schemes.

I'll be glad when it dies. I might give it an early grave.

Update: March 10, 2004. It died. I was printing on card stock and something is now jammed and it does not seem fixable. It is not worth the shipping to mail it to someone to try to salvage it. I think I'll take a hammer to it.

1-0 out of 5 stars broken in 6 months...
worked fine for a while, the usual paper jam every once in a while, but other that that it was pretty good... then all of a sudden, something inside broke, out of the 90-day warranty of course, and this thing is unusable. not recommended. ... Read more

Amazon.com Product Description

The HP DeskJet 920C is a compact desktop printer designed to deliver brilliantly clear graphics at a family-affordable price. Offering high resolution, rated print speeds up to 9 ppm in black and 7.5 ppm in color, and a space-saving foldup paper tray, the 920C is ideally suited for both general-purpose and photographic printing. Despite the value price, HP includes its exclusive PhotoREt III color technology, usually found in more expensive models, to support the drop-on-demand thermal inkjet printing process.

Turn out photos with clean and true colors in 2,400 x 1,200 resolution when using photo paper (monochrome resolution is up to 600 dpi). The 920C also supports a wide variety of media, including plain paper, transparencies, labels, envelopes, index cards, and invitations. The 100-sheet paper input tray saves on reloading, and the 50-page output tray handles most medium-size jobs.

Additional features include a print cancel button, dual cartridge design (one cyan-magenta-yellow and one black), a low-ink indicator, eight built-in fonts, and a monthly volume capacity of 1,000 pages. The printer supports Mac and PC systems with built-in USB and parallel ports. It measures approximately 17 by 16 by 8 inches and weights just 13 pounds. 4-0 out of 5 stars Great inexpensive printer
The HP 920c is a great low cost printer for the home or small office. Don't let the low price fool you, this guy does it all. I compared a full color photo print out with my HP 882 (2 years old) and the photo-like quality was superb. The set-up was a snap as the software guides the even newbies out there with fool-proof installation. This is a very quiet printer and the speed, not exactly super fast (want speed, buy a more expensive model!) was very good. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars was the limited 90 day warrenty. One tip if I may, use a USB connection for faster printing as the parallel connection is very slow to print in Best photo-quality mode.

4-0 out of 5 stars HP 920c Printer
The only thing that kept me from rating it 5 stars is the fact that the initial setup didn't go as smoothly as it should have.
It is so quiet that you very literally have to stand next to it to tell if it's printing. The print speed is fast enough; it's not extremely slow. This is not the model to get, however, if you're looking for lightning speed. I use a parallel port connection, so that is probably why there's a slight delay in getting the print information to the printer.
The print quality is OUTSTANDING! I only print photographs once-in-a-while, so I didn't buy the machine for that, but you can! Even on regular paper, the printed photographs don't even look computer generated.
After set-up, I'd give this printer a 5 star rating. It's a definate value for the money. I doubt the more expensive models would do much better.

4-0 out of 5 stars Nice printing results
I bought this 920C printer about a year ago. Until now, it still performs good. I love the printing results, the small size (6 point) characters are sharp and readable, the pictures are sharp and smooth, even with normal mode. I found that it's far better than my old 820Cxi. The dimension is so compact and lightweight, so I don't need more space to put it near my computer. However, the weakness of this printer is its integrated color ink tank. You have to replace it if there is one empty color, while the others are still half full. Honestly, I prefer the separated color ink tanks because they are more friendly to my wallet. Hope, in the near future, HP will make deskjet printers with separate ink tanks in economy prices without reducing quality.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent!
The HP deskjet 920c is an excellent printer. And the price couldn't be better. It's fast and easy to use, and the picture printing quality is equal to the more expensive printers. I do alot of printing for home and business use and this is the best printer I have purchased yet. I only wish I purchased this the first time around! As for photo printing, I take alot of photos and print them out for family and friends. They all seem to have the same comment...."Your photos are so colorful and clear, who develops them"? They can't believe I printed them out myself.
I recommend this printer to everyone who wants quality, without a hefty price tag! Enjoy!

4-0 out of 5 stars very neat!!
I have owned it now for about 2 months. Installation was a breeze. I use it for occasional printing. no complaints printwise. B&W prints are nice. Color prints are awesome... though I am sure it uses a lot of ink which is where the cost is involved.

Amazon.com Review

The Hewlett-Packard DeskJet 710C is a compact personal ink jet that delivers high-quality output at a bargain price. This color printer lacks its own software bundle but is an easy-to-use PC add-on.

Like some of HP's other ink-jet models, the 710C uses a space-saving case design that fits neatly on most desks. Paper enters the printer via a 100-page input tray, which extends horizontally from the front, and exits directly over the top into an output tray. The input tray's adjustable guides allow for legal-size paper, envelopes, and special-sized media as narrow as 3 inches. This tray also pulls out to allow for easy reloading. Consistent with Hewlett-Packard's latest designs, the DeskJet 710C features a switch that allows the input tray to handle continuous banner paper.

Loading ink into the DeskJet 710C couldn't be simpler. When you lift the cover, the ink cartridges automatically move to the center of the unit for easy access. Side-by-side black and tricolor cartridges insert securely via obvious, green release levers. Because cartridges contain both the ink reservoir and nozzle, they won't make a mess when you change them.

Black text prints at up to 600 x 600 dpi, and the unit uses Hewlett-Packard's PhotoRet II technology to provide brilliant color. In our test we found the DeskJet 710C's output impressive for the printer's price. Text was crisp with smooth curves, and photographic output was well balanced and realistic. Because no application software is included with the DeskJet 710C, you'll need your own programs to design colorful creations. But if you're just looking for a way to add quality output to your system, this is a wise and affordable solution.

Pros:

  • High quality at a low price
  • Compact design
  • Simple operation
Cons:
  • No application software

5-0 out of 5 stars A GREAT PRINTER -- A REAL WORKHORSE
This is a truly great printer.

I use it primarily for black and white printing and I print a lot. It is fast, very clean, and very economical, particularly with black and white printing.

It is very forgiving of mistakes (I reuse scrap paper for drafts and many times I had papers stapled together go thru the printer without harm). I don't recommend the practice but so far the printer has survived without damage. Its real easy to clear a paper jam if it occurs, and to change the ink. So far paper jams have occured only when I've had staples on the paper, or had some other irregularity with the scrap paper I typically print drafts on.

The printer gives you lots of choices of printing quality and speed, so you can opt for draft quality to save ink and for speed or for varying degrees of better quality, which are hard to distinguish from laser quality printr.

The gray scale is excellent.

Best of all you can save money by reusing the ink cartriges
again and again. I've used one cartrige about 8 times so far.
You need to buy an inexpensive reinking kit on the web, and with practice the whole reinking process (for black ink) now takes me no more than two minutes. I'd guess I get about 1000 sheets between reinkings.

The cartridges are extremely sturdy. I put one in boiling water for about half an hour to clean the print heads and forgot to turn off the flame. When I arrived the water had boiled out and the cartidge was too hot to touch. Amazingly it still worked fine and still does many reinkings later.
( I don't recommend this to you)

The color printing seems adaquate. I don't have a basis of comparison. It is economical if you reink yourself.
There is only one cartirge for all colors, so using more one color would make the cartridge useless when that color ran out unless you reinked yourself.

All ink jet printers are uneconomical unless you reink yourselves, but this printer is a workhourse and a gem.

If you reink as I do wear clothes you could afford to get ink on and some kind of food handling thin gloves to keep the ink off you. If you are careful you wont get any ink on you, but ink is ink and hard to get off so its much better to be safe than sorry.

Re: review on my defective printer

This letter is to notify you that my Hewlett Packard printer is terrible and I'm very unhappy with both the quality of my printer, and the after sales service that I received from Hewlett Packard. Below you will find the reasons why I will probably never purchase from Hewlett Packard.

-I purchased the printer for business purposes in February of 1999. -I used the printer, under normal quality prints for the purpose of letters &Memo's. -Come Christmas I tried to use the printer under the best quality print for the first time. (To make holiday cards) -At that point I discovered that the printer did not work under this setting. (I then had to buy holiday cards) -I sent the printer to get fixed during the Christmas Break. -When the printer came back to me I tried it out, and bingo the problem wasn't even fixed. -I called the repair department and they told me to send it in again. -They didn't even fix the problem can you believe that. -Because this printer is used for the purposes of work I had to wait until our February break to send it in again. -When the printer came back this time again, I found that now 2 new problems had suddenly appeared.

List of new problems since the printer was returned from your service department:

1.The Printer now prints off centre (Example included) 2.The printer doesn't print the colours properly at the bottom of the picture (Example Included)

-This has become a very bad habit to have to send my printer in to get fixed all the time.

This is the way I see things:

1.I never got a printer that worked since day one. 2.I didn't find out that the printer was defective until December 1999 3.When I did send the printer in to get fixed, nothing was done. 4.When I sent the printer in again (Now February) It comes back with 2 new problems. 5.My warranty is now over, but the way I see it, the printer never even worked properly the entire year I had it. 6.What I would like is for my printer to be fixed free of charge. 7.If this can't be done then I would like to return this defective product inexchange for a new one. 8.I've been more than patient with this defective product and I want to be satisfied by either #6 or #7 in this paragraph.

I will not take no for an answer because I really do believe that I have not received the product that I set out to purchase back in February.

3-0 out of 5 stars OK, but Not Great
It is my second color printer and it is nice. It just hogs the ink. Otherwise, I enjoy it. Besides a few bugs that interfere with Windows Media Player and other applications, not a bad product.

Just Don't use it when you computer is on a Y2K day like DEC 31,1999. It will NOT WORK!

3-0 out of 5 stars Good Quality Printer, but beware if you need compatibility!
The HP 710C is a very good quality printer, most of my output looks as if it was laser printed. Its quick and fast and inexpensive, although I haven't had to buy a new cartridge yet. However although it looks like a standard inkjet printer it is different in a very important way, it uses a protocol called PPA (performance Printing Architecture) This is a very non-standard and has a few disadvantages. You can't network this printer, it loads my computer making it slow down dramatically whenever I try work and print at the same time (this is because windows does most of the work in the background because the printer has less memory and on-board intelligence then usual), Also if you want to use it an anything other than Windows (i.e LINUX) you cant!).

Overall a good buy for an exclusively windows PC without networkability.

5-0 out of 5 stars Converted
Ok, I admit it, I was always an Epson Addict, but when my last printer bit the dust and I had to sniff out a budget model, I plumped for the HP 710c. I switched on expecting the very worst, and got a surprise. This unit is quiet, quick to standby, solid, well built and produces amazingly good results. I still favour my old Epson Photo 700 for photo quality, but for just about anything else, on just about any paper, I can't fault the 710c (DAMN! ). Ink lasts forever too, you can't go wrong. I really never thought I'd see myself saying this about an HP, I've always found them clunky, clumsy and decidedly average, looks like I'm going to have to eat my words on this one. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Works well for a color printer
Works very well for a color inkjet printer. You need to look at the printer to see when the ink is running low, but other wise no gripes. It works very well with windows xp. It also is able to hold out. I use this at work for printing invoices all the time and it works great.

5-0 out of 5 stars Super Printer I now have 5 of them!
I have 5 of these, and what can I say? They have cut down on cost, they are quiet, they are fast, and they are slick! I don't know why the other guy was saying that this was not for business use. Yes, it does only have a 150 sheet capacity, but it prints so quick that you don't have to start the print job then go home and wait until morning for your 500 sheets of color to print. FIRM THUMBS UP!

4-0 out of 5 stars Fast and great quality.
Very fast color draft print mode, rated at 14 ppm. I'm seeing 11 seconds on first page out in full page color draft. The color draft mode is very good, quite acceptable for reports and newletters. Has a large 10.5" print area on 11" paper (0.04" top margin and 0.46" bottom margin). Holds lots of supplies so you don't have to swap them often. Seperate ink tanks saves money on ink - full color draft letter size paper came to 9 cents per copy by our testing - including paper and depreciation. Only has a Parallel port standard, could have used USB too.

1-0 out of 5 stars Unimpressive capacity.
The capacity of this machine is so unimpressive that it leaves you wondering who they had in mind when they called it a business jet. The number of pages in the tray is minute, but the amount printing that can be done with the mini ink cartridges is underwhelming. You then realise the cost involved with replacing them, not long thereafter comes the whopping cost of replacing the print heads. HP shareholders may rest assured that customers are forced to come back for more and more and more. But will they ever want to buy another HP printer. Both thumbs firmly down.

4-0 out of 5 stars Powerful, Fast, and Loud
If you find yourself printing a lot of text, this is a great printer to have, even if it is just for your home computer. It is simply a very fast inkjet printer. I had an initial problem getting it to feed straight that was corrected by tightening up the paper guides as the manual said. Getting the print heads loaded was also an experience, but not impossible.

Pros:
Seperate Color Ink C/Y/M/Blk
Fast Printing speed
Large paper capacity
Built in processor and 16 mb of memory
Accepts HP EIO card for 10/100 or Wireless print server
Accepts postscript card and additional memory
Also accepts upgrade card for USB connection

Cons:
Loud. Very loud
Built in parallel connection only
Older photo printing technology
larger desktop footprint
inks are seperate but still expensive ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Scrappy Printer
Bought this printer about two years ago.Printed rather good text and pictures. Then,I did not know what happened, but the printer sucked the paper into it,causing it to jam and overheat, resulting in a blown fuse.Getting it repaired would be way too expensive,so I bought a brand new printer. This is a piece of junk.Do not ever ever buy it

2-0 out of 5 stars mac compatible???
Amazon, when you decide to label something 'mac compatible', please check whether this is indeed the case. I spent $50 on this printer, only to find that it didn't work with my computer.

3-0 out of 5 stars Just an OK printer
Decent for just a draft printer, but I have had inkjets that had sharper graphics and colors. If you need a cheap printer that works for printing out draft pages, the price is good. If you need photo quality and report-style prints, move to a higher line of HP printers. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Sometimes it works
At first this printer worked well, but after a year it is nothing but trouble.

To begin with, you can't print more than 4-5 pages before the "page grabber" will start to grab more than one sheet of paper at a time, and the text ends up going across both of them.

Then there is the printer driver, which is also not up to par -- where is the manual two sided printing that has been in the classic Mac OS for all of these years?

In short, this was my last HP printer. The jamming paper feed is too much for me to handle.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Printer
This is a good quality printer. HP makes better ones, but the price for this one is good. I have had no problems with it so far and have had it for and year and a half. The color cartriges are the problem. ... I heard the grey cable that goes into the back of the printer was getting recalled because of possible electrocution and shock hazard. It was made by Longwell electronics. Seems fine to me. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Hooray! I can now print to two 995c¿s from the same PC!
The HP 995c is one of HP's most capable printers. It will print wirelessly via Bluetooth or infrared (IR) - allowing me to work untethered from my laptop PC and from my Palm PDA. It even permits my daughter to print (without cables) from her portable AlphaSmart Dana Palm OS word processor, which she loves.

Until recently, the HP 995c had a software weakness which prevented more than one print driver from being installed on a given laptop - at any one time! (Unbelievable, isn't it?) This precluded me from printing wirelessly to the two 995c's I have - one each in my home and in my office - somewhat defeating the purpose of the unit's wireless capabilities.

I recently discovered, though, that HP has issued new printer drivers (and new printer firmware) for the 995c -- that is available on HP.com -- that fixes this limitation. For the very first time, I can now print wirelessly to both of my HP 995c's from the same PC! Hooray!

In case you're interested, here's how I use my two 995c's:

-First, in my home (in the family room), unattached to any PC. My daughter prints out her homework from her AlphaSmart Dana. And I print out my e-mails and various web pages - while I sit in my favorite chair and watch TV from across the room!

-Second, in my office as a personal desktop ink jet printer - as a replacement for my company's networked laser printers which, due to their remote locations, are just a pain to use. The 995c is hard-wired to my laptop's docking station. But since I've also installed a 3Com Bluetooth PC Card in the laptop itself, I really don't need to dock in order to print, which makes working remotely in and around my office that much more convenient. I've also loaded BtPrint (from ISComplete.com) into my Palm 515m, which allows me to print Calendar, Address, Memo and To Do list entries, as well as MS Word documents from DataViz's Docs To Go. So, needing to dock, or upload information from my Palm to my PC, in order to print - is simply a thing of the past!

Unfortunately, since HP has decided not to install either Bluetooth or infrared capabilities into their newest generation of printers (except the HP Deskjet 450cbi), the 995c remains one of the best all-around choices for printing wirelessly via either Bluetooth or IR -- from PC's, Palms and Pocket PC-style devices. If wireless printing is something you'd like to enjoy - without having to undertake the expense of establishing a WiFi network in your home or office - the HP 995c is definitely an easier way to go! I now love my two 995c's - even more than I did before!

4-0 out of 5 stars The Same Computer Will Print to Only One HP 995!
I enjoyed printing wirelessly from my laptop to my HP 995 printer at home so much -- I decided to buy another one for my office. After I installed it, I managed to get my Palm 515 to print to this new device via either infrared or Bluetooth, but I could only get my laptop to print by using a USB cable; it would not print wirelessly.

After calling HP's help desk, I soon learned (from a very helpful technician who was involved in the Beta testing of the HP 995) that the HP 995 was designed so that the printer driver for only one HP 995 could be installed on a computer at any given time (and that each individual printer creates its own dedicated printer driver). If I wanted to print to my new office 995, I would need to dis-install the printer driver for my home 995! It was not anticipated, according to this technician, that very many consumers would want to use two 995's at the same time from the same computer. (HP, hell-o!)

So, while I can print wirelessly (via either IR or Bluetooth) from my Palm to either of my HP 995 printers, I can only print to one of them from my laptop.

I was very much looking forward to the mobility of working either at home or at my office on my laptop -- and then printing wirelessly in either location (up to 30 feet away) without having to be tethered via cable. As a result of this limitation, my work-around (at least for MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint) is to download the file to my Palm (using Docs To Go) -- and to print the document from my PDA while at work. (This situation is only tenable since my personal laptop and printer are not my primary computing devices in my office.)

I think being able to print to only one HP 995 at-a-time is a huge oversight on HP's part. Wouldn't you agree?

5-0 out of 5 stars Living in a Wireless World! Print from Your Favorite Chair!
HP's superb new 995 DeskJet printer has both Bluetooth and IR (infrared) capability, enabling me to print -- wirelessly -- from both my laptop and my Palm.

Wireless printing from my laptop is accomplished by installing 3Com's Bluetooth PC card, which plugs in effortlessly (and requires a little software). To print, I need to be within 30 feet of the printer (not necessarily line-of-sight). The printer has a little blue light (with the Bluetooth logo) that blinks when it's receiving a signal. The software also installs a Bluetooth Manager icon on the desktop which, when opened, allows me to easily verify (or refresh) the Bluetooth connection. The Bluetooth signal will also turn on the printer (in case I've forgotten to do so). The printer has a large memory and will save multiple documents, so waiting for the printer to finish before moving on is not required. Bluetooth printing appears to be a little slower than printing directly from the PC (via a USB cable). But the print quality is every bit as good (and just as sharp as on my other HP 990 Cse and HP 1315 Photo Smart printers).

Printing from my Palm is made possible by installing Docs To Print (from ISComplete.com) which transfers data (to the printer) via the Palm's IR (infrared) port. Docs To Print enables me to output information from my Palm's Calendar, Address, Memo and To Do lists. But, more importantly, it allows me to print MS Word documents -- downloaded via Docs To Go (from DataViz) -- which I can compose and modify (word process) on my Palm. Printing to my HP 995 is extremely fast (taking only a few seconds for the data to transfer and for the HP to begin printing); and the print is letter quality. (Docs To Print, incidentally, also includes the print drivers to almost all of the IR printers currently available from HP, Canon and Sipix.)

I actually use my HP 995 as a stand-alone printer (with no PC attached) in my family room. By being able to print wirelessly to it from either my laptop or my Palm, I'm able to tuck it away in a corner of the room (where its not easily seen); and (here's the fun part) I'm able to sit in my favorite chair (and work) without having to be tethered (via cables) to the printer in order to print. Hallelujah!

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Printer!!
I am in medical school and do A LOT of printing at home. I am can't really address how this printer works in an office environment, but it is great at home! I had a Epson photo inkjet before buying the HP. The Epson was a good printer, but I was going through ink cartridges like crazy!

The HP Business inkjet 2280 has worked out great for me. The ink cartridges are expensive, but last a VERY long time (4 cartridges, Black, Cyan, Magenta, and Yellow ...). In fact, they last long enough, that I can buy the cartridges over a pretty extended period of time as I can afford them!

The printer is very fast and high quality. I was having trouble getting my previour printer adjusted correctly for printing photographs. I plugged in the HP and printed one out without any adjusting anything, just to see how it looked. It came out great!

Another good feature is that it has a pretty large capacity for paper.

The only drawback is that this printer is relatively loud. It isn't really that big of a deal, but I was not expecting it, and was very suprised. You might want to go to a store and print out a sample for yourself to see how much noise it makes. Like I said, it really hasn't been a problem, but it was unexpected.

One more thing about the ink. With some of my other previous printers, I have resorted to buying "off brand" ink from internet supplies. As far as I can tell, that is not an option with this printer.

Overall, I am VERY happy with this printer! ... Read more
