Amazon.com Product Description Optics and Resolution Storage and Transfer Movie Mode More Features Power, Size, and Contents Features Reviews (7)
While the photos look great when imported into my Mac, the extra resolution above 1600x1200 doesn't seem to make that much of a difference (even as I zoom in to different areas). I'm going on a trip tomorrow so I'll have a chance to vary the resolution and see if it really matters. If you just want your first digitial camera, 1600x1200 resolution may be good enough for you and you'll save some money. One thing that I noticed and liked was that this camera seems to take pictures pretty quickly (less lag) as compared with other cameras I've used. Now for some flaws. The movie mode is horrible when compared to my brother's Canon Powershot (roughly the same size and his model was cheaper than this one). For one, the Canon had sound but you don't get sound with this camera. You may argue that if you want to make movies, buy a DV camera but my brother has sent me some cool little emails of my niece and the movie mode really is a good plus. Second, the movie mode picture was much grainier than with my brother's Canon. I probably won't use the movie mode on this camera but I probably would have if it was better. In summary: great pictures so far (even though it is a cloudy day), great size, best UI I've seen, but the awful movie mode prevents me from giving this camera 5 stars (though I guess 4.5 stars would be closer to my opnion).

Upon receiving this, which is the entry level, or lowest priced Casio model to feature btouch sensitive keys, I found there to be to defects in the way that the keyboard functions, and it is free of the low volume problems that are apparant in yamaha's entry level touch sensitive model. I also learned that, however, the buyer should beware. Not only does this product arrive without an AC power adapter, but it also lacks a sustain pedal, which is essential to anyone who plan to use this keyboard to play at least intermediate music. The model numbers for the adapter and the sustain pedal are located in the owner's manuel, in case you do decide to purchase this otherwise problem free product. But buyer beware however, that the price listed above is not the final one. Add on approximately, as I know from experience, about 15 dollars for the adapter, and 20 dollars for the "optional" sustain pedal, plus taxes. Overall, however, besides the additional costs, I have found this product to be of plaesing quality and have no other quibbs about it. The keyboard only possesses 61 keys, however, 27 short of a full 88 key keyboard found on high level digital pianos and acoustic pianos, being 5 octaves plus one key. If 61 keys is not enough, I recommend you look elsewhere. For the beginner, I do recommend this product, but beware the extra fees.

It includes all the basic functions... multiple contact lists (personal, business, etc.), great calendar functions (one time events up through yearly birthdays - all with optional alarm functions, which activate even when PDA is off!), memo areas (one where I keep passwords, medical info, emergency info and the other which is free-hand to take down quick notes, phone numbers, etc.) expense area (not used - can't comment), games (2), calculators, and a super large screen which avoids need to "wrap around" and scroll down to read... all of which can be password protected! I purchased mine for $50, including cradle and set-up disc. For those who have Outlook Express (OE) which you can't sync with, (unlike the real "upgraded" Outlook), it's great that Casio has it's own operating system (OS). I couldn't tell you how many PDA's (4 at last count!) I purchased, and returned, because I couldn't sync w/OE and/or OS's weren't included. This is a great gift... update family info on PC program and download into various PDA's and voila! Great for students of any age, kids finally moving out... they'll all have current contact info, birthdays, medical info, etc. at their fingertips, and with individual docking cradles, they can update as needed. If you're not looking for email, camera functions, etc., this is the PDA for you! For $50 you can't go wrong... trust me!
I use the unit for two things: I make notes of system network ID's, device names, logons, common command syntax, support phone numbers, etc. and I synchronize with outlook all the time. I carry it around in my pocket and check my scedule liberally. The system can carry about 100 alarms, so I usually get a beep at my default reminder time in my outlook (15 minutes before a meeting). I also have access to all my Tasks and my Contacts. The really useful aspect for me is the ability to modify my contacts, add phone numbers, email addresses, personal information, etc. to my Casio and then synch it back with Outlook. I can also take everything in my Outlook Contacts and Schedule with me whereever I go and never have to worry about remembering to put something into my Outlook if I have my PDA available. On the systems which I support that I don't touch very often, you can't imagine how useful it is to have the system ID number, network address or device name available because I saved it in my handheld. Plus, if you need to, you can password protect those items. I am not interested in email on my PDA or anything really complex. I don't need an MP3 player or wireless web access. The spreadsheet capability is great if you really want to invest the time to synchronize with the Excel tool, but the screen is so small, that I find it not very worthwhile and I don't use it. The simple expense tracking system is very useful and simple. I use it to track expenses on business trips and it does a great job. I have not, as of yet, had any problem synchronizing with my PV-S400Plus, but I did occassionally with the PV-S250 and it was a royal pain to have to then do a full-synch since it ran about 9600 baud the whole time. If you have a modem, you may wish to make sure you don't have interrupt conflicts, because my past experience with the PV-S250 was that it didn't like my fax modem being on at the same time. One other drawback is that if you want to sychronize any of the other information like your notes, you do have to make a separate transfer from PCSynch. I don't like this aspect and I rarely use it. To date, I have never lost anything from memory in two years. I wish it had the ability to synch with the notes folder in Outlook instead. Also, while the Excel compatibility gives the unit a bit a power for calculations, I personally would rather have a it be able to read WORD files instead. But that is getting into bigger color units that are expensive. My PV-S250 is still performing flawlessly even though it is showing some serious wear on the plastic exterior. Nevertheless, the unit has never failed me and the batteries last for over a month with regular use...try that with a color handheld PC!! ... Read more

I owned the previous version for 7-8 years until it broke. I hesitated to buy this (based on the previous review), until I looked at the instruction manual via Amazon, which made me realize it's easier to use than the older one! They figured out the problems with the old one (buttons too small, too many button pushes to get to each mode), and fixed them. It still isn't perfect: letter entry means cycling through the number and the 3 letters per button to get to the one you want (4 choices, up from the 3 you had before, because to make the buttons bigger they reduced the number of buttons and fit more on each); you have to learn a fair amount from the manual to use it; case and watch, tho better, are still the standard, (not impressive looking) brushed steel look you get at this price. I disagree with the previous reviewers complaints: each mode is easier to get to, and they're ready to use when you get there (no extra pushes: you do have to wait a couple seconds for the display to change, but you can start entry right away, and the display catches up). You can't enter as many alarms on specific days (limit 5) as before, but I never entered more than that anyway - this really isn't a replacement for a PDA, it's an addition that I use for the most critical information and reminders. All in all, about the best you can do with this amount of space, I'd say. I'd ask for a better case and band, and the ability to sync or communicate with a computer. ... Read more

On the other hand, if you enter 2(21) in both calculators and then press the equal key, both calculators will generate 42 in their respective display areas. It must be that each calculator's design is such that both do not recognize an "operator" (addition, subtraction, multiplication, or division) when a number enclosed in parentheses is immediately followed by another number. If you enter (21)2, both calculators recognize it as an error in "syntax" or rules by which either unit can calculate or perform an "operation." You did not enter an operator so the calculator cannot perform any calculation. In the first case, (21)2, no operation (multiplication) is recognized by either calculator and as a result, both units generate the "error" message. In the second case, 2(21), both calculators recognize the "operator" (multiplication) and performs the operation to arrive at the correct answer, 42. Nevertheless, both the Sharp and the Casio recognizes the "order of operation." For example, if you enter the expression (2 +3)2 and then press the equal key, you will again see the "error" message displayed by both calculators. However, if you enter (2 + 3) x 2, you will see the correct answer displayed by both calculators, that is, 10. It is evident that any number or expression enclosed in parentheses as the first entry which is then followed by a number will generate the "error" message. I just tried entering (2 + 3)2 on the scientific calculator that comes with Windows XP Home edition. When I pressed the enter key, the display remained at "2." This means that the computer did not recognize any "operator" after (2 + 3). If you enter "(" then "2" then "+" then "3" then ")", you see immediately that the result of the operation is 5. Go on and enter "2" and press the equal key, and you see that nothing happens because you did not enter any operator (multiplication) after 5. You are stuck at 2. While the calculator in Windows will not generate an "error" message on the one hand, both the Sharp and Casio will to let you know that you have violated the "syntax" or rules used by either calculator. Remember, a calculator is just a dumb paper weight and it won't do anything for you until you tell it exactly what to do. However, both the Sharp and Casio will perform various calculations for you but will only follow the "syntax" or rules incorporated in their respective designs. One feature on the Sharp that I really like is the fact that each numeral or expression you enter is displayed in the lower line of the two line display before you enter an operator. This allows you to see and make sure you are entering the correct data. Once you enter the correct data and follow it with some type of operator, the data you entered appears on the upper line of the display area. This allows you to "double check" all entries before you press an operator or equal key. The Casio fx-115MS on the other hand shows all data entered on the upper line first just as you enter it in the calculator. I like both calculators equally well, and both have their advantages and disadvantages. But the advantages and disadvantages spring mostly from user preference. For me though, the Sharp EL-506VB has the edge because it comes with more thorough and user friendly documentation explaining each function more thoroughly than the Casio fx-115MS. So for five dollars more the Sharp is worth it. The ... Casio graphing calculator also looks like a good investment and seems to come with a very adequate booklet of about 150 to 200 pages. That will most likely be my next calculator.

Amazon.com Review Casio has built into the LD-50 four sound-effects pads that can be changed to one of five different modes. The sound effects go from fun animal sounds to serious sci-fi and beat sounds. The LD-50 has 50 preset rhythms ranging from rock to jazz. These rhythms can be used for accompaniment as well as for interactive tutorials in lesson mode. You can assign each pad with one of 47 preset sounds. Casio has done some of the work for you and preselected nine different drum kits you can choose from to better suit your style of play. We were quickly able to access all of the functions, and the clear layout of the display made it easy to know what mode we were in. However, while going through all the features we felt the dial operation was a little awkward and sometimes it took two hands to scroll through the menus. The only mode that was hard to find was the touch response mode. The touch response feature allows you to change the sensitivity of the pads so that it takes a harder or softer strike to trigger it. After a quick consultation of the informative user's manual we were able to customize the LD-50 within minutes. This set is great for beginners and students. The synchro/start function allows you to trigger the beginning of a preset rhythm and tempo simply by starting to play. This limits stuttering starts and eliminates the user from having to wait for a good time to jump into the rhythm. The student or beginner will find that the LD-50 is lightweight and portable. It takes up very little room on the desk or tabletop. It has a built-in speaker with a maximum volume that is suitable for household use, but if you need extreme privacy you can plug in headphones. The LD-50 uses six AA batteries or an AD-5 AC adapter for power. The power adapter is not included. Casio's LD-50 has enough customizing features to make it a very flexible instrument. We spent a lot of time exploring the different rhythms and sounds. The LD-50 would be a good learning tool for any aspiring percussionist or a great addition for anyone looking to keep skills sharp. --Brian Vandiver Pros: Features Reviews (2)
Mine came without a manual. The Amazon reviewer mentioned how hard it was to find the touch sensitivity setting until he checked the manual....I sure wish he told us all how to access the sensitivity setting. IF ANYONE HAS ONE OF THESE AND CAN TELL ME HOW TO CHANGE THE SENSITIVITY LEVEL I WOULD GREATLY APPRECIATE IT!!! Please e-mail the info to me at: I have to agree with Lori... Casio support is nearly non-existant. No way to e-mail them. Though they advertise having online manuals they do not have the LD-50 manual online. Call them and be prepared to wait on hold forever. Come on Casio...you guys were once the leaders in low cost consumer electronics...how about some customer support?
