Good for the price
Ordinarily I don't buy frivilous items. But this camera is so darn cute, it called to me from the shelf "buy me, buy me!" So I bought it, and I have been very pleased with it. It's tough and waterproof, and gave me some excellent shots above and below the water. The only complaint I have with it is that the icons painted on the dials wore off quickly, making it a little challenging to know what mode the camera is in. On the other hand, my wife doesn't like this camera at all. The underwater viewfinder makes it difficult for her to frame pictures properly, resulting in chopped off heads and the like. Also its unusual size and shape means she gets her fingers in the picture from time to time. Of course I'm about twice the size of my wife, and I don't have these problems, so maybe you won't either. If you plan on doing a lot of shallow underwater photography or if you plan on using the camera in a pretty harsh environment, this is the one for you. It's a lot tougher than a regular point-and-shoot, and it takes much nicer photos than a disposable waterproof. It costs about 10 times what a disposable would, but then it's about 300 times more useful.

Elegant, all-terrain APS Camera.
Canon Elph Sport Camera is a cute, all terrain Advanced Photo System (aps) camera that if properly used will give good quality pictures. The camera is waterproof to a depth of 5 meters or 16 ft. Underwater, if you compose correctly following the instructions'booklet, you will get pictures with a better quality of those taken with disposable waterproof cameras. But this is a camera for snorkelers or shallow water divers, not for professional or advanced scuba divers that will find that this little camera is useless at depths bigger than 5 mts. On land, the camera will also give a good performance. But again, this is mainly a camera for the tourist or the casual photographer since it is limited by its single Canon 23 mm f 4.8 lens. Other than that, the camera offers all the advantages, for the beginner photographer, that can be found on other APS cameras, that is, automatic film cartrigde loading, built in flash with red-eye reduction, automatic shooting modes, date, time and title imprinting and 3 print formats (classic, panoramic and group size). The camera uses one lithium battery (CR2) weights only 220 g. and it is small, portable and very nice looking (measures WxHxD- 4.1x2.9x1.8 in.)A good buy if you have some extra dollars to spend(199) in a versatile, elegant and easy to carry little camera.

Good camera, good value.
My camera has really stood up to the elements and multiple beatings. It has worked well for me taking pictures underwater and in the surf, and has also been to the top of multiple 20,000+ feet mountains. Dropped countless times on rock, snow, sand, and also dunked as much into water. I have learned to force the flash on anything but super sunny days - the pics come out a bit dark in conditions other cameras would have no problem with, and i've found it could really use a filter in intense light situations. Nothing you wouldn't expect from a specialty use camera. Just bought a second spare one for when the first one finally does give up - which i don't think will be for a long time.

Ultimate Combination of Features and Quality
If you are considering buying an APS camera, then you should look no further. Note, however, that APS film is a bit more expensive than regular 35mm film, but it is much more versatile (standard Normal, Group, and Panoramic modes, etc). The reason why this camera so great is most obviously its design. The case is waterproof as well as shockproof. After taking it with me hiking, I tripped three times, each time with the camera in my hand (in its little case), and showed no signs of damage, and still worked great underwater. For me, this is great, as I usually end up losing things in my messy room, and hence they usually get banged around. This camera is durable, and therefore there is no worry. Its waterproofing is great feature, as I am constantly taking pictures on my boat, at the beach, or outside where there is always the chance of rain. You don't have to worry about keeping your camera dry, nor does it become a problem if you leave you bag with the camera in it someplace where it might accidentally get wet. The design is extremely easy to use, and the pictures are great (use 400 speed film, its the most versatile). The only bad thing is that you have to fairly responsible about cleaning the camera after salt-water use. Now, I have never done this, and the camera still works fine. Furthermore, this thing is tiny, suprisingly smaller than the most compact 35mm's. You'll be suprised at how small it is (it's not too small though). It also has bumps on the back to help you grip the camera with one hand. To anyone who is concerned about zoom, on most compact camera, APS or 35mm, they barely make that much of a difference. And to anyone considering going digital, I say just get a scanner. Your picture quality will be much better. Recommended without reservation. Its the kind of camera you can just throw in your bag and never have to worry about. One last thing, when you first put it underwater, you will see bubbles coming out. I was concerned, but found out it was just air on the outside of the waterproofing.

Easy, Fun & Waterproof! Works great after FOUR YEARS!
This is a simple point and shoot auto-focus model which fits nicely into small bags/purses or a coat pocket. Traveling should be fun in any weather and being able to capture memories should be too. Cameras shouldn't shrink with just a few raindrops like the Wicked Witch of the West. The Canon Elph Sport holds up to everything I've been through the past four years: quicksand, ocean waves, swimming pools, road trips, baby drool, hurricanes, blizzards, and much more. The colors come through vividly. Now with black and white Advantix film being available, I can take more classic photos as well. This summer, I tried surfing and the only success was the great photos. The carrying case is great - In it, the camera floats in the ocean. I recommend this camera for anyone who does not want to worry about their camera getting wet on family vacations (think beach trips or theme park rides here) or during frequent outdoor adventures.

Optics and Resolution

awesome digital camera for first time buyers
This is a my first digital camera. I did a reasonable amount of research (prices, reviews, features, etc.) before purchasing and this camera has exceeded all my expectations. With a new baby and family around the country, I needed a digital camera to quickly share all those new baby pictures. The pictures are highly detailed at 4 megapixel. I also was looking a camera with movie-making features, and this one easily makes movies (I made a movie before opening a manual). I also bought rechargeable batteries and a battery charger and a 256M memory chip as others have recommended which have been very helpful. My regular batteries started fading after a week of use and I have never exceeded 72M on the memory card. Another feature I found to be cool is the panoramic feature, which was easy to use with the included PC software. Some reviewers have mentioned the flimsy memory card cover, but that isn't an issue for me - I never remove the memory card. I thought the price was reasonable. I believe this A80 is newer model, and I didn't want to have it be outdated in a few months.

Great for beginner and beyond; Comparisons to ideal camera
Now I'm new to photography, but I began with my ideal set of features without looking at what cameras were out there (too many to count). I set pretty high standards for myself. They were:

Now, I went to the list. I bought this camera after months of research, comparing all sorts of brands from Sony, Kodak, Olympus, etc. So now, I'll address all the features and how this camera stacks up.

1) 4MP: Perfect
2) One of best in low-light/no flash; I generally don't like the lighting with flash even on professional cameras. I've gotten great dim pictures of animals sleeping with this. Note: Must be steady [See Recommendations]
3) CF Flash 1; That's still good & cheap, but not as fast as CF2.
4) 4 AA-battery; A number so heavy, but multi-purpose
5) It fits my pocket, but it's a bit heavy with the batteries
6) Yup, but I think Sony does a better job with auto mode
7) Few cameras have manual and I'm still learning with this. Note: Having a manual mode means that there's a fairly steep learning curve, but fortunately there's auto if needed
8) I can't tell you how many candid shots I've gotten with the swivel LCD. It's a must!

Works like they promised!
This is an amazing camera that never fails to come up with a great picture. I am far from a pro. but this camera's function and quality enable me to take shots that look good anyway. It even has a quality mic. that allows you to record and add sound to a picture. The only gripe I have with it is that in order to actually use it for more than a day you have to purchase expensive rechargable batteries.

Flash went bad after 2 months
When I bought it 3 months back, everything looked good...now, my pictures come dark under indoor lighting...after doing some checks, I found that the flash is not working...it works ok in outdoor day light...now, I have to see, whether I can get this fixed under warranty...By the way, I am surprised that the price dropped from $350 to $270 in 2 months, on Amazon! Any particular reason!!

I am yet to test how the digital prints are...when, I got some 10 prints printed in a small shop, they were not as good as the non-digital camera prints...also, they are not as good as they look on the camera LCD screen...I don't know whether I can expect atleast same kind of prints as non-digital/film camera.

Very nice and efficient.. A great value
I initially had the Nikon Coolpix 3100 and had a warranty and the front of the lens broke off so I went back to the store to exchange and I was told that it was no longer sold. The new model was 3200, well I spotted the Canon A80 Power shot and I ran home to read reviews on the camera before I bought it.

It's a little heavier than the Coolpix, but it has so many wonderful features. I did a comparison of the two and I feel as though the Canon is a wonderful choice. Not being a professional photographer, I wanted a camera that I could just aim and shoot and get quality pictures without a lot of work. My Canon also has a lot of scenery modes which have helped me tremendously.

The quality of the pictures are awesome and you don't have to put a lot of effort into it. My boyfriend took some pictures in the park and it was like the color was just coming through the camera. My one negative is that some of the indoor shots are a little dark, but you can learn to adjust your settings and lighten them up. Also, the software is wonderful. I am having a ball making online movies and albums and just being creative.

Although it may look like a compact digital camera, the Canon PowerShot S50 delivers is actually a 5 Megapixel camera with features and options normally only reserved for high-end digital cameras.

Housed in a mostly metal casing, the Canon PowerShot S50 is turned on via a sliding lens protector that in turn allows the 3x optical zoom to pop out and the large and clear 1.5 LCD monitor to fire into action. There are over 10 buttons on the back of the camera alone, allowing you to easily change everything from white balance to reviewing images.

The jog wheel on top gives access to the many options including Night Scene, Fast Shutter, Slow Sync and Program and shows how serious this camera is when it comes to taking pictures. Better still is the quick access function button on the rear of the camera that allows you to access White Balance, Drive Mode, ISO, Effect, Flash and image size settings all at the press of a button.

Power is delivered via a Li-ion Canon rechargeable battery pack and the camera is shipped with a 32Mb CompactFlash Card enabling you to store images. A 3x optical zoom offers 38 - 105mm equivalent for a 35mm camera and this added to the 4x digital zoom gives you plenty of scope. Picture quality, as with all Canon cameras, is very strong, detailed and well balanced. You would expect this from a 5 Megapixel model, but everything here seems to gel. Colors are crisp, white's well defined and skin tones very clear. The host of focusing options only help in creating better pictures. While the pre-programmed settings get you out of trouble if you're not sure what to manually set up.

Overall this is a very good camera that is only let down by the positioning of the review button. The picture quality is very good and the functions that the camera offers are extensive. For this too really be treated as a high end camera it should have a hot shoe function, but then that's what the G3 and new G5 are there for. Great pictures from a tiny camera!
As an avid amateur photographer, I love my Canon EOS SLR, but wanted to buy a digital camera for traveling and family snapshots.

Since a digital SLR body was out of my price range, i researched maybe 15 compact digitals before settling on the S50. I'm thrilled with my purchase and would recommend this camera even to folks who, like me, are used to higher-end SLRs.

The S50 offers an incredible array of features and options in an improbably small package. I've had it for about six weeks and have yet to take advantage of all the bells and whistles. Although the camera offers options galore, its controls are pretty intuitive. And despite its myriad features, you can use it right out of the box in its "Auto" mode.

Its color fidelity is stunning -- even with magentas, which some digital cameras don't capture well. Its automatic white balance is also superb; it produces none of those ugly casts you get with cheaper digital cameras. If you prefer to set the white balance yourself, though, this camera gives you plenty of flexibility.

I've had very good results with the focus. The couple of blurry pics I've gotten were probably my fault because I didn't give the camera enough time to focus. The focus lock seems pretty quick - comparable to that on my SLR.

There are a couple of areas in which this camera doesn't perform as well as my SLR (an unfair comparison, but worth mentioning). One is the slight, occasional shutter delay. This can be annoying but it's not the end of the world for travel and family shots. If you're big into anything that involves split-second action, though, I'd recommend you stick to an SLR.

I must also echo other reviewers' comments on the flimsiness of the lens cover. I contemplated returning the camera because of this but was so impressed with the quality of the pictures that I instead resolved to handle the cover with kid gloves. It's helpful to note that you don't have to use the lens cover at all, if you're worried about it... the camera powers down automatically after a while, and you can wake it up again by depressing the shutter. (Of course, this option leaves the lens exposed to dust and scratches...)

That said, the S50 offers a couple of huge advantages over film cameras. One is its performance in low-light settings. I've been amazed at the S50's ability to capture pictures indoors, without a flash. No funky purple ghosting, either!

And I love the LED screen that's built into the back of the camera. It has pretty good resolution so you can tell what's in focus, and you can adjust its brightness depending on whether you're shooting indoors or out. It's great to be able to compose your shot without having to mush your glasses against a tiny viewfinder, and it's even better to be able to review your photos at the end of the day.

The software that comes with the camera is easy to install and intuitive to use (on a Mac, anyway - can't vouch for the PC version!). The 32mb memory card that comes with the camera, on the other hand, is inadequate... I'd recommend buying a card with at least 128mb of storage. An extra battery couldn't hurt, either!

On the whole, I think this is one of the best compact digital cameras on the market today, and certainly in its price range. I'd expected to compromise some image quality in moving from film to digital, but am surprised and delighted to find that's not the case. If I had my choice to make over, I'd buy this camera again.

I'm Now A Believer
I never thought the day would arrive that I would abandon my Canon Rebel 35mm camera for a "digital....ugh..camera" but the Canon S50 has made me a true believer. I finally got fustrated trying to scan in all my 35 mm prints in order to "preserve my memories". Very time consumming, and I was never quit satisfied with the quality. So, after a lot of soul searching, and a lot of on-line reseacher reading countless reviews, I finally took a leap of faith and purchased the Canon S50. I couldn't be happier. This is an excellent camera for the serious amature, allowing for point and shoot capability or multiple features that allow one to adjust various settings. I've had the camera for over 5 month now and don't have any regrets. The quailty of the pics is VERY VERY CLOSE to 35 mm and I've enlarged prints to 20 x 30 with excellet results. I strongly recommend buying an extra battery and 512 MB Compact Flash Card. Also, www.shutterfly.com offers a tremendous service which allows one to utilize your new digital camerea to the fullest. Buy this camera and I highly doubt you'll be disappointed!

Great product, fine pics, very durable
I have a lot of experience with a wide range of fully manual SLRs and digital SLRs, and this camera stacks up nicely. As an architecture student, I bought the S50 to have a quick alternative for shooting models, sites and other miscellaneous scenography to use in large scale presentation format. After 7 months, I have been very pleased.
A few things:

The good:
-RAW format (nice to have that versatility)
-color balance is nice
-easy acces to menus
-loads of manual functions
-light adjustments are right on
-nice lcd, crisp and bright
-overall great consistent pictures, and it's easy to be really creative (making you feel like a better photographer than you actually are)

The not so good (but no so bad either):
-there is too much discrepancy between the area that is seen in the viewfinder and what the sensors see. (You always get more than what you see)
-the 5-way toggle selector button has got to go!
-a little bit too brick-like
-noisy zoom

I would recommend this to semi-serious light-heavy shooters. (but get a spare battery, 2 for a full day of shooting with lcd on)

does exactly what it's supposed to
Sometimes I travel to places where more likely than not, I will not have the opportunity to revisit. That is why I like this camera. The quality of the pictures are quite good (often, bracketing and having a big memory card helps this further) and the durable metal body and small size makes it ideal for traveling.

My only major gripe is the battery indicator. The camera doesn't give you a good indication of how much more battery power is left. A second battery is almost a necessary convenience.

Obviously, the pictures taken from this are not as good as the SLR's, but often those cameras do not fit so easily in your pocket. Having easier access to a camera makes it easier for me to take spur of the moment pictures. In addition, the s50 does have some remarkable manual features. Some are a bit gimmicky, but the basic manual features, even a manual focus (kind of a pain to get used to at first) are available.

All in all, I do love this camera for what it is.

Consider Your Needs Before Purchasing.....
Before purchasing a digital camera, sit-down and consider your needs.

1. Are you just getting started out in digital photography? This particular camera has a lot of bells and whistles but if you don't take the time to learn the features then it may be a bit of an overkill. The manual has a nice layout, but for the amateur photographer, its not going to be enough explain the functions in detail.

2. How portbable do you want the camera to be?
This is a medium sized camera. Not quite small and light enough where you feel comfortable slipping it into your pocket and heading on out. But at the same time, not a big contraption that is bulky and difficult to manage.

Recommendations:
1. Buy a bigger memory Card - With a 5 megapixel camera, I highly recommend getting at least a 256mb memory card.
2. Buy a USB 2.0 Memory Card Reader - While the camera comes with a cable that connects to your computer for downloading images, the USB 2.0 Reader is lightning fast. For example, suppose that a download may take 5 minutes with the supplied cable, that same download will only take 45 seconds with USB 2.0. If you plan on taking a lot of digital pictures, then this item is recommended. Just be sure to check if you computer is USB 2.0 compatible.
3. Buy an extra battery - More than likely that one supplied with the camera will not be enough if you plan on taking a lot of pictures during a trip. At least with the back-up, you can snap away without having to worry if you have enough battery power.
4. Consider buying image editing software- This will give you more control over the finished product. You will be able to crop images, brighten them, sharpen them, take out the red-eye, etc...Again, if you are not familiar with such software, it may take some time to learn.

Conclusion: This camera takes awesome pictures for the most part. At 5 megapixels, the images come out clear and detailed. There is a bit of a red-eye problem, and the flash is not very powerful. This camera offers a lot of features, but unless you are willing to sit there and learn what each function does, you may not need it. Portability was an important factor for me while wanting to preserve camera performance, and so I purchased this camera. If I could do it again, I probably would have bought 2 cameras instead. One really small camera like the Canon SD10, so that I can take it anywhere, and then purchase one bigger camera like the Canon G3. I figured that this camera is in between and compromised. UTTER FABULOSITY in the form of a Camera
*OK so this bad boy is TINYYYY. You will never have to worry about carrying a bulky camera again, plus its really ultra chic and trendy looking. HUGE PLUS.

*Unlike a lot of other digital cameras that take forever to take a picture, this thing is faaaaast. The time between each snap shot is fast too. VERY impressive.

*I'm not a professional photog but if your just about quality photos without all the technical craziness then this camera is perfect for you. Right out the box its super easy to work with without having to first read the lengthy manual(s).

*The digital zoom on this thing is more than cute enough to accomodate you and I find that it doesn't distort the photos or comprimose the quality of the pic. I understand there are a lot of people that don't care for this dital zoom feature but It hasn't been a problem for me.

*There's no optical viewfinder on this camera (for the lay person its the little hole most people look through on any other camera before taking a picture). Excellent Camera, No Regrets!
This is perfect for you if you are looking for a small, portable digital Camera. You can take this thing anywhere.

Pros:
1. Size and weight - I love the fact that you can just drop it in your pocket and head on out. It's small, sleek, and light weigt.
2. Picture quality - At 4 megapixels, this is not a technological lightweight when it comes to picture clarity. The pictures I have taken so far have come out excellent.
3. Canon Quality - Canon makes great digital cameras that feel sturdy and are well - built.

Cons:
1. Digital Zoom/Lack of optical zoom - The zoom feature of this camera is not good at all. It's a trade-off for its compact size. When using the digital zoom, the pictures dont come out very sharp.
2. Red-eye - You will note a tendency for images to have a bit of red-eye in the subjects. That's not much of a problem if you have image editing software.

Suggestions:
1. Buy a bigger Memory Card - the one that the camera comes with is too small. At the very least, get a 128mb card, 256/512mb is my recommendation.
2. Buy an extra battery - this way when you are out, you can just swap batteries without having to worry about how much power you have left.
3. Buy a USB 2.0 memory card reader - If you take a good number of digital pics and your computer has a USB 2.0 port, then a reader is excellent for downloading pictures and transferring it to your computer. USB 2.0 is very quick and where a typical transfer may take approximately 5 minutes, with USB 2.0 the same transfer will take 45 seconds.
4. Get image editing software- This affords you the opportunity to brighten images, sharpen images, take the red-eye out, crop images. I use adobe photoshop, but any image editing software should do. It just gives you a greater sense of control over the output.

Conclusion:
You know that there will be a trade-off in some camera functions for its small size, and for me, I have no regrets about it. I simply can't get over how small the camera is. It excels in close to medium distance images in daylight. At 4 megapixels, the resolution of the pictures is very satisfying. This camera delivers as promised.

I just got my camra today! It's the cutest thing ever. It's smaller than the rest of the camra's on the market. The 4.0 mega pix is a plus too! WOW I love it. It's smaller than my cell phone. You should get it too!

REALLY IMPRESSED!!!
From the moment I recieved this product I knew I had made a great desision in this purchase. The packageing was impressive and it came with everything which I think is a total plus, the case, battery, battery charger and the cords. I recently purchased a more expensive digital camera and had to put more money into the rechargable batteries and charger and the AV cord and the case, and the product packageing was no where near as good as this little camera. Also this camera has an awesome orange light ( don't know the Tech. term )that totally suprises whoever your taking a picture of and can take a picture in a competely dark room, my big camera cant do that. I take it everywhere it is so small, I love it.

Canon SD10 (simply the best)
The Canon SD10 has to be one of the best cameras out there for its price. I only have a few things that I don't like about this camera. One of the things is that some of the pictures show a little bit of red eye but when you go to print it out you just click red eye and it takes it out for you so that really isn't that big of a deal. Another thing has to be the digital zoom. When you take the picture it is fine but when you are looking at it on the LCD when you want to take the picture it shows blurry. But if you want to use the zoom... just take the picture and zoom in and print it on the computer. This camera takes excellent pictures and let me tell you is it ever TINY! Why ship a new camera without a battery?
Why isn't the purchaser informed the camera comes without a battery? It's the first camera I have ever purchased which required a battery and wasn't delivered with one. Because of this I am not able to rate this camera.
I have tried to turn the camera on to no avail. My wife also was unable to turn the camera on. So, we have presumed the camera has no battery. Neither of us were able to open the battery compartment to verify the absence of a battery because evidently neither of us has the required strength to do this. I shall take this to a camera store sometime this week to check the camera out. I placed a roll of film in the camera but nothing happened when I closed the case. The film was not taken up. The number "1" did not appear on the screen indicating the camera was ready for action. What more can I say???

Almost everything we wanted.
When we went shopping for a camera to replace our current one, this is the one that we came across. My brother even has the same camera and he loves it. We did research and found that it had everything that we needed until upon receiving the camera, we found that it doesn't have the date caption that we thought that it did. There are two different models of this camera, one says caption and one doesn't. We had seen the one with caption at many other stores and didn't realize that there was a model without a caption.It is a great camera, unless the date caption is an important feature for your family.

Finally I have found the camera for me! I have shopped around quite a bit, and have done alot of research! I have tried "Nikon"..."Minolta" and they do not even compare to this camera!

I have kids and taking pictures fast is a must for me! I have yet to miss a moment! The flash is ready to go quickly after a picture is taken,(so you can take 2 pics of your baby doing something cute!!)You do not have to keep someone smiling while the red eye reducer light is working, it is that fast!! The view finder is large, so you can find something moving around in the view finder quite easily! It is small and compact to keep in my purse.
I also use the Canon Rebel SLR...another great find!! But when you need a small point and shoot...this is the way to go!

D760 - Great copier
Great copies, turns on for immediate copies, turns off by itself, very quiet.

Canon D760
I bought this copier/printer to network with my computers. Like anyone who had computer experience I went and bought a print server. After many frustrating hours, I called Canon to find out the problem. I was told that the only print server that is compatible is the Axis 1610. I have looked at the manuals and the documentation. I have searched the web and NO WHERE does it state this. I feel a bit betrayed that this information is not stated anywhere.

However, as a ADF Copier it is fast and efficient. As a printer, the first page out is slow but all subsequent pages are quicl to print. Also, note the pages come out face up and therefore you must designate reverse order printing.

Canon 761 does not support Linksys Printservers
Just purchased the Canon D761 printer/copier (feb 2004). This unit only supports two print servers... and I never heard of them. So it is not "generic" to most servers and should not be purchased if you need that feature. Reasonable printer and copy quality. ... Read more

Middle child.
I have been a dedicated digital Elph user since the first S100 was released and have really gotten my money's worth from that camera. It is a rock-solid, 2 megapixel, 2X optical zoom, pocketable digicam. It was not, however, a perfect camera, and the first update, the S110 attempted to address its major shortcomings, most significantly by fixing the poorly designed power switch and by adding a movie function. Next came the S200, which added to the movie function (60 seconds max., with sound) better battery management and higher amperage and several new user controls. It did *not* add the anticipated 3 megapixel resolution, nor improve upon the 2X optical zoom. The series continued with the S300 & now the S330, and these indeed do offer the 3X optical zoom (forget about digital zooms; they're nearly useless, especially in lower resolution cameras), though not the 3 megapixel resolution (this is important *only* if your intention is printing enlargements greater than 8" x 10"). So with all 5 of the digital Elphs still widely available, which would suit you best? Personally, considering their prices graduate only slowly, and given my experience that a better optical zoom makes for a more useful camera, I'd go for the ... S300. However, if size is not a major factor in your decision process, skip the premium one pays for the Elphs' compactness and consider the fact that you can buy other digicams that are only modestly larger but rather better equipped for less money.

This is a great camera.
* It's TINY no bigger than a deck of cards, I can take it everywhere.

* It feels STURDY. Cased in stainless steel, not imitation spray-painted plastic.

* It takes AMAZING PICTURES. 2MP is just fine for 6X4 prints, and much more than enough for email shots.

* The USER INTERFACE is excellent. Very intuitive. Easy to learn. The LCD is clear and bright.

* The supplied BATTERY lasts all day long.

* It's MANUAL FUNCTION lets me be creative with my pictures

I bought 128MB more memory, a spare battery and a carry case. In my opinion these are essential and should all have been included in the kit, but they're not...

I have had a Canon Eos 35mm SLR for six years and have been very happy with it -- but the portability and unobtrusiveness of the ELPH means I can take it anywhere, and it takes photography somewhere new.

1) It seems the mean for compact camera resolution currently is about 3-4 megapixels if bought brand new. This is a 2 megapixel camera, which was the mean for a compact camera about 2 years ago (when I bought the camera).
2) This rating is based on 2 years of wonderful experience with this camera and thousands of pictures taken. If you are set on a 2 megapixel camera regardless of price, then this is the camera for you.

-Picture Quality- Amazing for a 2 megapixel camera. I routinely print out 4x6 pictures at great quality. Before this camera I was using an APS Elph. Without a doubt this camera prints much better quality pictures than my old APS compact camera. Although keep in mind, no matter how good the camera is, the prints can only be as good as the printer. The only problem I had with this camera is that it is VERY dependent on the flash for point and shoot pictures. Without the flash, unless you are in bright sunlight, pictures can come out blurry if you don't have steady hands.

-Features- AMAZING. Simply more features than you will use if you are buying the camera for quick snapshots. Also the problem with the flash dependence that I mentioned earlier can be fixed using the manual features. But with that said, it is impractical to change these features manually everytime you want to take a quick shot, but it is very handy when you want to take portrait type or studio type shots. This camera also has a movie function with sound that most cameras have nowadays. Most people say they don't use it, but I use the function a lot. I find the main problem is that most people just forget they have the function so it is never used, but if you can get in the habit of using it you'll have priceless small clips (at a low resolution) of things that happened.
A 2x optical zoom isn't too shabby either considering many compact cameras don't offer a zoom.

-Durability- again AMAZING. I have never dropped this camera (well once off a bed, onto some really soft carpet), but I've owned this for 2 years and probably 75% of those two years that camera has resided in my jeans pocket with lint, keys, cell phones, change... and not even ONE scratch and it still works perfectly. I did buy a small pouch for it, but the pouch really goes against what this camera is about, fast pictures. It wasn't practical to take the camera out of the pouch everytime I wanted a quick picture so I never used it, and it turns out I never needed it.
Also the camera is heavy and solid for its size. Too heavy for a shirt pocket, but definitely light enough to put into your pants. Its made of a metallic material that feels much better than the plastic that most compact cameras are made of.
The display screen on the back of the camera is plenty big enough to use to frame your shots. The viewfinder however does not accurately show the picture you are taking, which is a problem for many cameras. I never use the viewfinder because of this, but I never really want to either unless I forgot to charge my battery and I want to conserve battery power... which leads me to...

-Battery Life- The battery easily lasts the whole day of picture taking if you are on a vacation for instance. Easily I would be able to take 100+ pictures with flash and the screen on. But I have noticed over the thousands of pictures I have taken that the constant recharging of my battery has made the life lessen a bit. But that is to be expected from any battery over a couple of years of high usage.

-Price and Summary- I think the deciding factor for this camera is price. I gave this camera five stars because I couldn't be happier with my camera... BUT i bought the camera 2 years ago. A quick look at cameras of equivalent price and one can easily find 3-4 megapixel cameras for the same price (but maybe not the same quality). A quick look at cheaper cameras and I can also find plenty of 2 megapixel cameras from reputable brands such as Minolta, Nikon and Fuji. This camera has kept its price amazingly well over 2 years for an electronic device (I bought mine 2 years ago for $250). I think it has to do with the HIGH quality of this product. But if you have the extra $$$ for a mere $100 more you can get a 4 megapixel Elph.
I am very satisfied with this product and I know when I eventually get a new camera several years from now it will be another Canon Elph.

Convenient, takes good pics, but a little slow
This little guy is my first digital camera, and I love it. It's so tiny that I can carry it everywhere, which means I am actually using it to take pictures (instead of it sitting in a drawer in my house). It's also pretty durable -- I've dropped it no less than a dozen times and there's not even a scratch on it.

My only complaint is when there are odd lighting conditions (i.e. a dark room with candles or a lighted sign), the camera can take a little too long to take the picture. I would also recommend buying the tripod, because the camera takes lovely night pictures.

durable, go anywhere trooper
i've been using my s200 for a couple of years now, and it's toured the world with me. it's been durable, convenient, and a great home and road camera. i just got back from tokyo and took hundreds of photos and several minutes of video (30 second AVIs) with it. same with france, washington dc, and the like ...

it's got good exposure detection, a very simple to use interface, and has the features i was looking for. the zoom is pretty good for most situations, and it's reasonably responsive (boot up time, delay between click and exposure).

i'm not that thrilled with the macro capabilities, my nikon coolpix 800 did much better. nor am i thrilled about the "no zoom during movie capture" feature.

overall, i'm quite happy with my s200 as a point-and-shoot camera. i'd definitely get it again if i had the choice to do over. however, now i'd probably go for a few more bells and whistles, including more optical zoom and better macro shots. still, can't beat the form factor! ... Read more

Few digital camera lines have been as successfully branded as Canon's Powershot. And the best known in that line was the powerful and fun to use G2. Now, Canon's following it up with their G3, which has the same four megapixels of resolution but now offers an improved 4X optical zoom and other updated features.

With a revamped body, the G3 feels a bit more comfortable in the hands. A mid-sized camera, you'll notice it hanging around your neck, but its 14.5 ounce frame won't weigh you down terribly. With a high-speed CompactFlash card, the G3 can take video clips of up to three minutes complete with sound.

You'll want to consider an upgrade to one of those cards, as the G3 ships with only a 32 MB standard CF card--not bad for bundled memory, but you'll be happier with more storage room. Pure class & quality - a work of craftmanship!
I recommend unreservedly the Powershot G3 to any potential buyer looking for a first-class digital camera at a reasonable price - there is no better camera out there - period! It gives great pictures, the controls are easy to use, the battery lasts forever on one single charge, the software is very user-friendly and it is beautiful in it chrome casing.

I began taking pics as soon as I got this camera and am amazed at the quality of photos I have took simply by using the AUTO mode...absolutely breathtaking.

I was considering the Olympus Camedia C-5050 but was convinced to buy the G3 after visiting a store and holding it in my hands and trying it out. The Olympus is a bit clumsy-looking and the user-interface not as friendly as the Canon, but one of the features that sold me on the G3 was the battery life - no other camera out there gives you the type of battery life as the Canon G3.

I would recommend a larger compact-flash card, at least 128 MB. I bought a 512 MB card by Simpletech and it works great with my Canon.

In short buy this camera if you are thinking about a digital camera in the [expensive] range

Probably the best prosumer digital camera
I bought this in September 2003 and am extremely satisfied with its performance. Originally I thought of getting a G5 but decided against it after reading negative reviews on www.dpreview.com, which by the way is an excellent source of digital camera information. Apparently the G5 suffers from severe purple fringing due to trying to "push" the abilities of its small CCD sensor to its limits. The effect is also apparent in a lot of other 5MP cameras that still use a 1/1.8" size CCD.

Anyway the G3 is extremely great! Image quality is extremely high and since I don't print anything larger than A4 size, I don't need anything more than 4 megapixels. Controls are very intuitive but browsing through the manual helps to learn a lot of the advanced features. There are a lot of extra stuff that can definitely enhance one's photo experience (for example, there's a built-in neutral density filter to darken bright scenes and help saturate colors more). There is also an optional lens adapter that lets you attach 58mm filters (something available on Canon's "A" series Powershots as well). In fact, short of not having an interchangable lens, the G3 is practically a baby SLR camera! Size, though it bothers some people, is not a problem for me because it actually gives the G3 a good feel in the hand.

If you need the extra pixels, I suggest you skip the G5 and go straight for Canon's new Digital Rebel (EOS-300D). Otherwise the G3 is an excellent performer for everyday use with a heaping of extra creativity when needed. I now intend to get my G3 housed for underwater use, sell off my Nikon 35mm camera & kit, and continue to purchase Canon's photo & imaging products.

Conclusion: if you are after a non-SLR type digital camera and will be doing more than point-and-shoot, I highly recommend the Powershot G3. This may not be the camera to put in your pocket, but it will produce much, much higher quality images than any other non-SLR digital camera in the market.

Good, with definite limitations.
I've had my G3 for about 10 months now, and I've taken thousands of pictures with it. The positives:
- Takes great, clear pictures under ideal conditions; often with better results than my 35mm Canon SLR!
- Easy uploads to my PC.
- Accepts my external Canon flash.
- Excellent battery life. (I've people complain about battery life with other digital cameras, but this really is a strong point for the G3.)
- The unique LCD that flips over is "cool" (and easy to protect from scratches).

- Has lots of shooting modes for a non-pro camera.
The negatives:
- The lens cap is a poor design; it falls off very easily (at least Canon provides a cord so it doesn't get lost).
- Focus is slow except under ideal lighting conditions.
- Focus is unreliable; I've learned to take 3 shots at a time, hoping that at least one of them will be in sharp focus.
- Photo quality gets noticeably worse (more "noise") as soon as you increase the exposure "speed" above the slowest setting (ASA 50).
- The design is relatively bulky and heavy for a non-SLR camera, and the controls are not ergonomically correct.
- The RAW picture format option is useless with this camera because Canon's software gives you virtually no useful options for correcting/modifying photos in RAW format. To do anything useful you have to take the time to convert your photos to JPG anyway. I gave up on RAW after the first couple of tries and have stuck with JPG format since then.
In summary... I expected a lot at this price level, and the G3 really is a great camera for family snapshots, scenery and documents. However, it is a poor camera for low-light conditions or action photography.

GREAT Camera.
I did a lot of research last year before I bought this camera... It kinda hurt to leave behind my beloved nikon 35mm SLR, but I was going to Italy, and I needed something smaller, and digital.

The photos coming out of this camera are amazing. The 'auto' feature takes great pictures most of the time, and there's plenty of flexability in the settings to play with if it doesn't work. And with digital, you're not wasting film if the picture doesn't come out.

This camera is also really easy to use, which is wonderful catching those quick photo opertunities. The only downsides are 1) it's a little slow to actually TAKE the picture... almost a 1 second lag from hitting the button to finishing the shot. 2) This camera can not take action shots. A childs first steps will be fine, but a soccer game won't work. To be fair, all point and shoot digitals suffer from the same flaw... to break this, you have to step it up to SLR, and >$1000 in price (though I do lust after that Nikon D70...) ... Read more

The best camera for casual photographers
I'm consistantly amazed at what Canon can pack into such a small package. I took a Canon Elph Jr. with me to Rome in the fall of 1999, and the pictures it took are spectacular. This camera has the 2x zoom feature, but otherwise it's very similar. The APS photosystem is easy to use, and the index prints and negatives that stay in the canister are godsends for those of us who are less organized than some. I was particularly struck by the clarity of the photos, the richness of the colours, and the ease of use of the camera. While the 24mm APS format is smaller than the 35mm standard film, the resolution is still excellent. Far better than any digital camera under $1000. One of the most useful characteristics is the tiny size. No one believes this is a film camera when I show it to them. And because it fits anywhere, I take it with me in my napsack and shoot photos of anything I find interesting. (I think my friends have come to curse this feature!) Paired with a $100 flatbed scanner to scan photos for your web page, or to send via email, I think the Elphs offer a far better bargain than any digital camera or film camera available today.

Maybe mine is defective.
I received the camera as a gift. Though the camera is light weight and compact, I was dissapointed to find that the Camera features did not perform as marketed to the consumer. The focus is less than adequate,if you could see through it you may be able to catch a fair picture. The feature for red eye, I would have to ask "is there really such a function?" The majorty of pictures which contain humans, dogs, cats, ect reflect red eye. And if your thinking of using this camera for a active event that may require a bit more rapid advance, be prepared to have photos that are overlapped, that is if the camera even advances the film that you pay more money to purchase and develop. If you are one that has your photos enlarged,(when you get a satisfactory shot) I hope you will not require anything bigger than a 5" x 7", as the film required for this camera can not produce enlargements bigger than the standard 5"x7". So forget making that panoramic picture into a larger size. Needless to say, I am one very dis-satisfied consumer.

Great camera!
I purchased this camera about a year ago and I have not had a single problem since! I took the camera to Japan and NYC, the pictures came out far better than anything I've seen before with a film camera. The colors were brillant and detailed, it felt like I was still there. The only problem is that some pictures came out with red eyes, however that was not a problem for me because they fix that at the place I take them to so I never even see the red eye. The battery lasted a year under heavy use, the longest I've ever had before. The controls are easy to use and really come in handy. For the price, this camera is definitely a gem!

Canon Elph 260LT
I would suggest this camera to anyone who wants a reasonable camera that takes wonderful pictures. I got this camera as a gift a few years ago, and have yet to take a picture that does not turn out perfect. (I do however suggest always using 400 speed film.) I have bought a few of this camera for gifts, and plan do buy more for this Christmas season. I have also talked other friends and relatives into buying this for their use! This is a great camera for a great value!

Excellent camera
I bought this camera for my hiking trip in New Zealand earlier this year. I was extremely pleased with it. It's small and convenient, and the pictures it took came out breathtaking! The flash is quite strong: this camera took great night pictures, even where other cameras failed! I also took pictures from airplains, through the glass, and most photos came out very good. Some (not all!) panoramic pictures aren't as sharp as one would ideally hope, but it also depended on how much I zoomed in. For those of you who are unsure whether the zoom feature is necessary, believe me, it is! The camera is very small, stylish and light, and everyone thinks it's a digital. Changing film was a breeze. I used this camera in some rugged conditions in the mountains, and it withstood the test. I wouldn't recommend using it when it rains, though; I don't think it's waterproof. The only thing I wasn't happy about was the fact that the cord attached to the camera was too short to put aroung my neck. This inconvenience can be easily overcome, though. (Also, I recommend using Kodak APS film and developing it at Kodak, using Perfect Touch.) All in all, a great camera, highly recommended, especially for scenic trips where you need to use the Panoramic viewer: you will be amazed at the quality of the pictures! ... Read more
