Amazon.com Product Description

The 8x magnification level makes the Meade Safari Pro 8 x 42 WA binoculars ideal for birding and other nature studies, as well as hiking, concerts, and sporting events. Its close, 10-foot focusing distance lets you focus in tight on your subject without disturbing your surroundings.

Even across a lifetime of demanding observing requirements, the high-density glass BaK-4 prisms give you crisp, sharp images across the entire viewing field--all the way to the extreme edges. The Safari Pro 8 x 42 WA uses the same super-high-transmission multilayer lens coating as Meade's RainForest Pro binoculars for optimal viewing.

If you wear glasses while observing, the 19mm eye relief gives you comfortable, full-field viewing without eye strain. The Safari Pro 8x42 WA also includes a nonslip focus lock feature for comfortable long-term observing. These binoculars come with a soft nylon carry case, deluxe wide neck strap, ocular guard, lens covers, and a limited lifetime warranty. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars 5 Stars for Optics; -1 star for cheesy neck strap
Gotta put in a plug for my new binoculars which arrived today. Fantastic!

I'd like to confirm the recommendations I've seen, to begin with Binoculars before acquiring a telescope, or at least purchasing both at the same time. Even at just 8x magnification, the binoculars show details which cannot otherwise be seen, and does so with a wide field of view which enables you to get acquainted with the night sky.

Just one example. I focused on Vega. With my level of light pollution, Vega is the only visible star in the immediate area. Through the binoculars I was able to see the obvious triangle formed by Vega, Zeta Lyrae and Epsilon Lyrae. Not only that, but Epsilon Lyrae was clearly visible as two separate stars, Epsilon1a Lyrae and Epsilon2a Lyrae. Now when I look at this small patch of sky through my scope's viewfinder I'll know what I'm looking at! As I use the binoculars to learn the night sky, it will surely be easier to find things with my scope.

Rubberized texture is easy to grasp. Focusing is smooth and easy to lock by sliding the focus knob forward. The right eyepeice has independent focus adjustment.

The neck strap is kind of cheesy though. It hooks on to the binocular with some cheap plastic tabs. (I'll probably end up replacing this.) Otherwise I would have given this a 5-star rating. All in all, I definitely recommend these binoculars.

5-0 out of 5 stars Safari Pro 8X42
This pair of Binoculars delivered as offered. On a recent trip to the Lake Tahoe region of Nevada I used the Safari Pro by Meade to do some Bird Watching and spent a good Hour watching an Osprey feeding in Spooner Lake. I did not suffer any eye fatigue and I was wearing Sun glasses with out any interference. Just a great Binoc. also gave a wide view of the entire Spooner Lake.

5-0 out of 5 stars JEEPERS, CREEPERS--REALLY GREAT PEEPERS!!
The Meade Safari Pro 8x42WA is the finest binocular I've ever used. Having begged, borrowed, or owned well over two dozen binoculars in my life, I feel I can make a fair assessment of these things. Granted, most of the glasses I've used in the past were somewhat entry-level (el cheapo) models. Perhaps that's all the more reason for my enthusiasm over the Safari Pros. While I'm certainly no authority in this area, I strongly suspect that the BaK-4 prisms have a lot to do with the clarity experienced. Add to that the comfortable feel of the rubber armour coating, the short focus distance, the long eye relief, the ratio of magnification to lens diameter, and you wind up with one of the best values in sports optics on the market today. The only thing that I can see lacking is, they're not nitrogen filled; but for the price tag, that's to be expected. Until the day I'm able to move up to the Leica/Swarovski class, these Meades will fill the bill quite nicely. Oh yeah, one other thing! Everything we've heard or read about the cheesy neck strap connectors is true, but this was so easy to overcome that it hardly seems worth mentioning (so I won't). Still worth 5 stars in my book.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good, cheap binocs
I have expensive Leica and Nikon binoculars but needed something good that I could carry around with me and not worry about getting stolen, dropped. These Meades were perfect. Cheap, very good view for the money. Good to keep as an extra pair when someone shows up and you don't want a novice using your Leicas. I appreciate a good view and the center resolution on these is very good.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good but not Great
First of all my binoculars were assembled wrong right out of the box. It caused the eyepieces to wobble and affected focus. I'll have to send them back to get them fixed. Construction is good (they feel solid) and rubber coating gives a good feel in th hands. Optics are good but not great. The image is only in focus in the center. Not at all what you would expect from Bak-4 prisms. The case is nice and they have a good neck strap but the little plastic connector pieces for them are junk. These binoculars are made in Japan so if you are expecting the quality that you would get from the Irvine California plant you will be disappointed. They boast a limited lifetime warranty but have so many exclusions it is hard to know what would be covered. All in all though they rate with the other Japanese binoculars in the (price) range and are probably a good value. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT VALUE!
Received my order and find the binoculars to be exceptionally sharp/clear, easy to focus, and the zoom feature is great...clear vision over the whole zoom range! An exceptional buy for the money!

5-0 out of 5 stars Better than spected
Even after reading the reviews on this product I didn't spect this Binoculars to be so spectacular. It really gets you near the action (whatever action means to you). 24X zoom works really great and with a good place to hold your arms you will not have any trouble with the shaking. You should try to see fullmoon through this glasses and you will see what i'm talking about. You will get really good portraits observing wild life if you're patient enough too.

5-0 out of 5 stars Low cost, high quality binoculars!
I ordered this binocular for my trip to Niagara Falls and they were very durable. The image clarity is truly exceptional. They were even exposed to a lot of moisture from the falls but no trace of any moisture inside the lens (really rugged construction).

Earlier I searched a lot for a good binocular but couldn't find a better deal anywhere for this price!

They come in a very nice carry case with a decent neck strap and a lens cloth. They weigh only 31.0 ounces.

Since their objective lens diameter is 50mm they are able to gather more light for much better viewing. At 24x magnification, I think less than 50mm(aperture) will be undesirable and greater than this will make the binocular more bulky.

Meade makes one of the best binoculars in their class!

4-0 out of 5 stars Great for birding at Nisqually Refuge
I just recieved the binoculars and they are excelent. Only problem I had was holding the things still when in the 50 power. Just a little too shakey to be steady. Will purchase the tripod for better viewing. I use the bag for my bird and plant books and put it over my shoulder. ... Read more
