5-0 out of 5 stars Great Binoculars
Crisp images, no problem when zooming. I can even take off my glasses and still get clear images, that's something I could never get using Konus binoculars (don't waste your money, forget Konus). I highly recommend Meade products if you are looking for the best quality-money deal. I love my meade binos...

3-0 out of 5 stars good but not great
a few observations about these...VERY narrow field of view, useful only for truely long distance observation. focus not only shifts during zoom but in my experience is very difficult to get it to focus sharply while at max zoom...focus and image is absolutely fabulous at less than max zoom levels...this will probably go in the closet for use on my boat, I will be buying some else for casual "site seeing" terrestrial viewing. good but not great...not an all-in-one, best of both worlds unit as I expected.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Buy for the Price
This is the second pair of binocuars that I have owned with similar specifications. The first was sold by Sears, under their name, for about $130. They are no longer sold. (The Sears binoculars were banged up so much that they weren't much good anymore.)

I don't think the quality of the Meade binoculars is quite as good as the Sears. They just don't seem to be quite as "substantial". However, the optics must be about the same, becuse looking close or at a distance, using 8x or 24x, the image I see is about the same for both pair of binoculars.

I think these are a good buy for the "casual" user.

1-0 out of 5 stars Crude Craftsmanship
Got this from Bestbuy.com. I'm not a experienced user of binos as this is the second pair I've owned so far. The view is ok in broad daylight. The zoom lever is very stiff, turning it while viewing is near impossible. But the most I noticed(disliked) was shoddy build. One of the object lenses has some stuff around the edge that looks like metal shavings. The other is not even circular, got two small gaps, each about 1/6" long, between the lens and barrel at 9 and 12 o'clock looking from front. I'm sending it back.

It came with a bag/pouch, neck strap, cleaning cloth, lens caps, and a generic user manual that applies to all Meade binos so there was no specs listed for this model.

5-0 out of 5 stars These Binoculars are ABSOLUTELY Fabulous !!!
I had been looking for the perfect pair of binoculars for quite sometime now. After reading the reviews for the "Meade Infinity 8-24x50 Full-Size Zoom Binocular" at Amazon.com, I finally made up my mind to buy those. Unluckily for me, they were out of stock, not only at Amazon, but pretty much everywhere else too. So, I called up the Meade Customer Service, and somebody there told me that they were discontinuing their Infinity range, and replacing most of models with the new Travel View range. I checked back at Amazon, and although a Travel View model was available with almost the same specifications, nobody had reviewed them yet. I was a bit skeptical at first (...)

I finally received them this week, and I am REALLY impressed by their performance. Their image quality is exceptionally spectacular, and gives you a crystal clear magnification, whether you are viewing an object at 8x magnification or at 24x, or anywhere in between, for that matter. And the 50 mm diameter of the objective lenses (along with the fact that they are fully-coated) enables them to gather a great amount of light to give you a very bright and sharp image quality. The eyepiece lenses feature a good amount of eye relief - I wear eyeglasses, and had no problem looking through the Binoculars.

I put it through 2 tests - firstly I tried looking at the Empire State Building and the Chrysler Tower through my apartment window. I live on the New Jersey waterfront, right across the river from Manhattan, and at 24x magnification, both the buildings looked just as big, and just as clear as they do when I look at them, standing on the street right below them. And last night, I took the Binoculars to the Metropolitan Opera with me. I was sitting in the Family Circle area, but the view that I had with 8x magnification must have been better than the view that most of the people sitting in the Orchestra section were getting. And when I zoomed in to the 24x setting, I was even able to see the facial expressions of the performers so clearly that I could even see them blink their eyes. I don't know how I ever used to survive without them. There is no way I am going back to my old 4x25 Opera glasses.

After saying so much about their image quality, I should also tell you about some other great features of these Binoculars. First of all, they are very ergonomically designed - the complete body is covered with a soft rubber coating, which makes them easy to hold, even for a long duration, giving your hands a very good grip on them. The controls on the Binoculars, like the zoom lever and the focus knob, are also very conveniently located, enabling the user to move them while continuing to look through them. The other good news is that you won't need to keep adjusting the controls very often - my focus setting worked for all magnification values from 8x to 24x, giving me a clear picture at all times.

The size of the Binoculars might be attributed to the Porro Prism arrangement inside them, which provide the actual magnification, and space for the Prisms to move, to provide the zoom features. They might appear a bit bigger than the much smaller Binoculars people are normally used to, but they are not that heavy. They come with a neck strap, and lens covers for all of the eyepiece lenses and objective lenses. Also included is a soft cloth to clean the lenses, and soft nylon carrying case, which has a shoulder strap of its own.

All in all - A GREAT BUY - Highly Recommended for everybody !!! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A must-have for the shooting range
These binoculars were bought to assist me in seeing bullet holes at 25 yards to 100 yards at the shooting range. Good durability due to the rubber-coating and small enough to fit easily into my range bag. Makes seeing .30" holes at 25 yards and 100 yards easy and saves me lots of time trecking up and down the field. Had to take a star off though for the cheep neck-cord and lack of anti-glare coating on the lenses. With bright sun over your shoulder you need to cup your hands around them to keep the lenses from acting like mirrors...

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Binoculars for astronomy.
I recently got into astronomy in a big way - went out and bought not one - but two Meade computer controlled telescopes with the latest and greatest eyepieces, etc. After doing some research and through trial and error, I have come to the conclusion that the best way to start out in astronomy is to buy a pair of 10x50 binoculars - the Meade Mirage 10x50's are an excellent choice - and "learn the sky" with the binoculars before moving on to a telescope. These binoculars are so good they may be all the telescope you ever need.

5-0 out of 5 stars "Best Value" according to The Wall Street Journal
These Meade Mirage 10x25 mini binoculars were rated "Best Value" in a January 2001 review of compact binoculars in The Wall Street Journal. The review author, Lauren Lipton, described them as "extremely easy to use," said they "provided a great perspective," declared them "a killer deal," and described her Amazon.com purchase experience as "effortless."

5-0 out of 5 stars A terrific value
These binoculars have a nice bright clear image, even in low light conditions. They are easy to focus. I find it best to use them without my eyeglasses and compensate for my poor eyesight with the focus wheel. The binoculars are light and compact. You will not be disappointed with them, for sure! :-D

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for watching auto races
I bought two pairs - one for me and one for my wife - for our first trip to the Daytona International Speedway (Florida) for the Pepsi 400 NASCAR night race. Small enough to fit into the cargo pocket on the side of my shorts, these things worked great, even under the lights. The binoculars kept their focus and stayed sharp. The rubber coating is a nice touch and a good way to keep them from getting dinged up when hanging from my neck. The binoculars come with a soft case that can be worn on a belt, but I stuffed them, case and all, into my cargo pocket. There's an adjustment on the right cylinder for correcting the vision for those of us who wear glasses, and once its set it won't drift. Nice touch.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Price, Great Binoculars!
The pair I got I am VERY pleased with. They have very good optical properties, the occular adjustment was able to adjust between both my eye's. (I have seen some binoculars that did not have enough range in the occular to adjust between the difference in my eye's) and the brightness of the image was very good for such a small diameter lense. IMHO this is a superior product to Bushnell and Tasco products of similar design and you can't beat the price!

3-0 out of 5 stars A Few Caveats
The "product specs" ... says this item has a near focus of 12 feet, but in fact it will not focus closer than 21 feet. The focus wheel is very hard to turn compared with a Nikon Travelite set I have used for years, and the linkage has about .5mm end play, making an annoying chore of focusing on moving objects. The collimation of both samples is poor, though not so much as to make them painful to use occasionally. The two sets I tried show similar deficiencies, but one set had no end play in the focus linkage of only the left side - a most annoying fault. Finally, Meade's "lifetime warranty" requires a ... "shipping and handling" fee, ... ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good value.
These are a nice set of binoculars for the money. The only thing I regret is that it is limited on how close you can set the lenses together. This is an issue for children. Otherwise, they are fine.

4-0 out of 5 stars A middle aged woman's dream!
So I'm getting on in years, I admit, and my eyes just aren't what they used to be. Ms. Jones is not a kid anymore, she has them instead. Both my two daughters and my six year old son love playing sports. They are big soccer players (they are quite good---can't say it runs in they family!) and I go to all their games. I have glasses but it is still really difficult for me to tell who is who out on the field. I want to be able to watch my babies all through the game but it's hard if I don't know which babies are mine. These binoculars really focus in and they make it soooo easy to tell who is who. I can even read the numbers on their jerseys! I'd recommend these two anyone 40 and up. Thank you so much.

4-0 out of 5 stars Nice low-end astronomical binos...
These aren't really marketed as astronomical binoculars, but I figured I'd give 'em a shot, since they cost next to nothing but appeared to be of at least acceptable quality.

I was right - I've had the chance to compare them to considerably more expensive binos at star parties, and feel more than happy with my purchase. Sure, the [amt] (and much more!) units out there are nicer, but for a casual instrument I don't feel like I'm missing too much.

Minor complaints:
Under certain unusual conditions, I've noticed ghost images, but in practical use this hasn't been a problem. Like most 10x50's, they're a little hard for me to hold steady for an extended period of time without support (10x is really quite a bit of magnification). The field of view in these isn't especially wide.

All in all, a bargain.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Inexpensive Standard Size Binoculars!
After looking long and hard for the perfect general-purpose binoculars, I realized that I didn't need the $100+++ models that I had been reading reviews for. Meade being a respectable telescope company, I decided to buy these when I found them in a mall store.

I am very impressed with these binoculars. They don't have some of the high-end features found on more expensive models, like BK-4 prisms and multicoated lenses, but they still deliver a sharp and bright picture. They are very comfortable to hold, they look good, and they come with a nice, wide strap.

The only unfortunate aspect of these binoculars, in my opinion, is the long close-focusing distance. The closest distance to which these binoculars can focus is 30 feet. That could be troublesome for bird watching or other near-distance applications, but since these are fairly high-power binoculars, chances are that few people will use them for such applications anyway.

All in all, the Meade Travel View 10X50 Binoculars are a great deal and a reliable, sturdy, fun pair of binoculars. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Not expecting much but still disappointed . . .
I bought these for my four-year old son thinking that the low magnification (4x) and large exit pupil (7.5 mm) would make it easier for him to spot things, focus in, etc. Boy was I wrong. These things are virtually worthless--I'd send them back but don't want to waste money on shipping. The field of view is miniscule which makes looking through these binocs akin to looking through a couple of drinking straws--there are a lot of blurry, obscure things on the periphery and not much shows up in the center. (...)Frankly, I'm shocked that a quality company like Meade puts its name on a product like this. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Overadvertised
High magnification and small lens diameter should warn you to expect very low light. Indeed it is so when you look through these binoculars. To be able to see anything, stay at minimal magnification. Higher mag just means much less light, more blurriness, worse jitter, much smaller field of view. What is the point of above 20x capability when these problems make you switch to lower values anyway??

This being said, there are some good things about these binoculars:
1. At minimal mag, still get 14x and very clear image.
2. Amazingly small size and weight, especially in view of #1. You can just attach the case to your belt!
3. Nice grip and feel, especially for smaller hands (women, children).

I gave three stars because while having some nice features, this unit is a bit expensive, has badly thought out design, and is definitely overadvertised for its capabilities. I would have given four, if the price were lower and the advertising warned about the problems better.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good as a moderately priced, compact high power zoom
As long as you have realistic expectations concerning the amount of light available from a 27mm lens at over 30x you won't be disappointed, especially for the [high] price. I have a number of other fixed power, modestly priced 25mm binoculars and monoculars. I've read lots of criticism about the poor quality of zoom binoculars, but frankly, ever since I've gotten my 14-70 zoom Travelviews all of my other small binoculars and monoculars sit unused in a drawer. For the money these TravelViews have a decent quality lens and clear focus, they're light and small enough to actually carry around, and they zoom to power seldom if ever found in even much larger binoculars. Granted that you won't be using high power (40x-70x) very often because the image is so dim and the shaking of the hands so distracting. But the image at 70x is still acceptably clear and focused. In cloudy daylight was able to easily read the top letters on a license plate (less than 1 inch high) over a block away on high power. IMO these binoculars are a good deal for the money because of the high power zoom. The fairly small size and the high power zoom feature offers flexibility only found in a very few other competing models.

2-0 out of 5 stars Mediocre at best
I went for these binocs after reading so many favorable reviews, but I would not recommend them... For these Meade's you need tremendous light and they have a narrow field of view. At the maximum zoom they are worthless and even at the minimum zoom they are marginal.

4-0 out of 5 stars Big Zoom, Small Package
I'm not an expert on binoculars - I just needed some for watching wildlife, sporting events, and babes at the beach. I wanted something compact, but I figured that unless these things were the size of telescopes you didn't get very good magnification. It turns out I was wrong! This binocular has excellent optics and magnification. It blows away some other larger units I've tried. I highly recommend it for anyone who hikes, goes to ballgames, or has a boat.

5-0 out of 5 stars Frustrated

5-0 out of 5 stars Very professional!
I recently took these binoculars to a concert where we were seated in the nose-bleed section. These worked like a charm. Very worth the small price you're paying compared to others with similar specs. They also seem very sturdy and well-made. Highly recommended! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Really worth the money!
These binoculars are nice! Clear image, good feel, light weight and quality construction. They have BK-7 prisms fully coated optics and rubber coating. They are made in China but their construction is better than the twice the price Meades made in Japan. They have the same not so bad case and cheap neck strap but more than make up for that in image quality. A definate 5 stars considering the price. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Price is Right, Size is Not
An excellent buy, no doubt, but I was expecting it to be a little bigger. People with large heads might have a problem. Everything else is good enough to make it the only pair of binoculars an amateur would need.

5-0 out of 5 stars Top Performance/Price Ratio
I was skeptical purchasing roof prism binoculars at this price point. However, upon arrival, these binoculars performed as well as other units costing several times as much. The field of view is a respectable 383'/1000 yrds., and eye relief is not bad (much better than other units in this price point). Clarity is also good, although close focus in my trials was limited to between 10 and 12 feet. The unit folds down very compact and is lightweight and easy to carry. It comes with a nylon carrying case with a waist belt attachment. I cannot imagine anyone going wrong with this unit. In fact, I will probably buy two more for the wife and kids.

5-0 out of 5 stars Binoculars
I was remarkably satisfied with the price of the Meade Travel binoculars. It is a bargin deal to get a pair of good binoculars for under ten dollars. I am interested in buying these binoculars because thay are something I can afford without having to borrow any money. If i get binoculars at all i think i will definately get these binoculars. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Very poor
The first pair I got from the store had a double image. The second pair I got after exchanging the first was a bit better, but still had a double image at full zoom. I sent this pair directly to Meade to be replaced and the pair they sent back is completely blurred out of focus in one eyepiece, so I can't tell if it's still got a double image. The company says that they are going to open up a few of them there and test them out before sending me another pair, but I think the level of quality is obvious based on the first 3 pairs. If I was still within my refund period I would definitely dump these for a different brand!

1-0 out of 5 stars Meade should ONLY stick to telescope making.
Meade is the best telescope maker in the market, but boy, these binoculars (are bad). At 10X power I could see ok, at 20x I had a hard time focusing things, and at 30x I could not see anything clear at all. I'm returning them today.

1-0 out of 5 stars Dont Buy This! Its A Waste!!!
Its definetly not worth buying. Please dont waste your money. I am so pissed off with the quality and image. Its got the worst optics! i bought it yesterday and I am returning it today. and dont be fooled with the 10-30x magnification. it cant show you a clear image even on 10x ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Clarity-Holds Focus
Have used this product for nearly two years at football games, on duck hunts, and viewing wildlife. Found the Meade Infinity easy to focus and it holds that focus. Was constantly having to re-focus other binoculars I used. Excellent clarity for a relatively inexpensive binocular.

2-0 out of 5 stars MEADE MIRAGE 10X25 BINOCULAR (P-1-A32A3)
I JUST PURCHASED THE ABOVE BINOCULAR. HOWEVER I CAN'T GET THE LARGE LENSE TO CLEAN. THERE APPEARS TO BE A GREASE ON THE LENSE THAT THE CLEANING CLOTH OR WINDEX WILL NOT ELIMINATE. CAN I USE 409 TO CLEAN THE LENSE?

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent binocular for low price
I just got this binocular and it looks pretty. It is easy to operate and have very nice view on distance objects. I use to watch aircrafts landing and I am very satisfied with the picture quality. ... Read more
