4-0 out of 5 stars Good Digital Camera, Bad battery Life
I own Argus DC3550 instead of DC3500. The model I have has 3xoptical/2xdigital zoom and can take up to 2.1 Megapixels JPEG picture. This is my first digital camera and so far I am satisfied with its performance.
Pros:
- Price is low if not the lowest. Good for entery level photographer.
- Big 1.8" LCD display.
- build in flash with auto/red eye/night/fill-in options.
- Has Video Output function.
- Comes with a camera bag.

- Easy to set up when you first use it.
- User friendly USB PC interface. Just plug in Windows ME/2000/XP and the machine will recognize the camera as a removeable driver.
- The picture taken is clear even in the 640x480 mode. I tried taking pictures outdoor and indoor with 60 Watts light on. The pictures are terrific.

Cons
- The batteries drain very fast. I can only take 20 pictures when my 4 AA alkaline batteries died. I have to use NiMH rechargeable batteries instead.
- Can only take 12 seconds movie.
- You have to take off the len cap before you start the camera. Otherwise it will shut off automatically.
- The power button seems not functioning properly sometimes.
- No AC adapter.

Considering the price of this camera and the features it provides, I rate this camera as 4 star. If you are a beginner and your budget is tight, this camera is absolutely a choice.

3-0 out of 5 stars Ok Camera, but you will out grow very fast
This digital camera is an adequate begging, if you don't have the cash to buy a canon PowerShot A200 which can cost you around 140 dollars and it's lot better DC.
The Argus DC-3500 takes good pictures, but most of the time the camera will add a reddish effect to your picture, and you could try any configuration in the camera to fix it
But it will not work; the only way to fix it is using photo editor software like Photoshop
One more thing is that the camera takes too long to be ready to use after you either turned it on or had just taken a picture, causing the waste of most of your battery charge. Another point is that Amazon neglect to correctly say the type of battery used by the camera, which 4 AAA, finally the camera only use compact memory from Hitachi o Sandisk.

A word about the manufacture; the web site does not gives adequate information about any of their camera, and the manual that they have up on the internet does not match the camera to detail.

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't even think about it!
Hello everyone. I have been using this camera for close to 1 year. I think i can tell you all a bit about it.

Good:
1. It is very lightweight
2. It has a stylish front
3. When it every single setting is correct according to the environment you are in, it will take good shots. just good, not great.

Bad and Ugly:
1. battery life is so poor that it will leave you poor. Only about 18 shots per 4 AAA batteries.

2. Mediocre performance with photos

3. No optical zoom, digital zoom is no good!

4. tiny space for pictures. 8 at highest resoloution and a max of about 45 at very low resolution.

5. Hardly works with poular compact flash cards...only uses prpiretary ones. I tried sharing compact flash cards and it would not allow you to.

pverall it is a good camera is you want a fancy looking device. But for a digital camera, i rate it poorly.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Value For The Dollar
Paid just over a $100.00 for this 2.1 megapixel camera and its terrific.Very easy to use, great features for this price range.
Like all digital cameras, make sure you purchase some rechargeable batteries.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Value in Small Package
I got this camera with an Amazon.com Gift Certificate. This is a great starter camera. Easy to use. Easy to download pictures. The software that comes with it makes all pictures look clear and focused. Uses 4-AAA batteries, that you will be buying a lot of. Overall, a great buy for any digital camera looker. If you are looking for a nice camera, at a low price, look no further. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars This camera ROCKS!
Let me tell you I just LOVE this camera. It is soo awesome. I got it at a local office max for 20 bucks which is an awesome deal. This camera takes awesome pictures outside when you get the sun just in the right angle. The pictures came out perfect! I love this camera for sharing pictures on the net..I can take as many as I want and delete the ones I don't want! This camera also comes with three awesome games, like photo fantasy its really fun becuase you can put your faces into different pictures! This camera is also very lightweight and easy to carry around. The only bad thing is that if you take the pictures inside they dont come out so good. I use this camera for taking pictures of all my pets. This camera is awesome and I would recommed this to everyone especially if it is going to be your first camera.

1-0 out of 5 stars Not Worth The Hassle
The others who said great for kids where right. This camera sucks. It was cool at first, I was excited about having a webcam/digital camera. Well, the webcam is better than the camera. Though it shows the video way too close up, and there is nothing to mount it to. And the usb link cord is way too short. The digital camera, oh my, that't not good at all. There is no flash, even in light, it's still dark. It takes tiny pictures. After a little while, the only way you can use the camera is to keep it hooked to the computer, which means you can't go far. I thought my batteries were dead, but that wasn't it, it just doesn't work. The webcam still works but it sucks.
So I don't even recommend spending $20 on it. Save your money and get something better.

5-0 out of 5 stars Not recommended for Adults
I bought this for my son last year. Its a great "toy"! The quality of the pictures are not very good. But try telling that
to a six year old who is in awe looking at the pictures he captured. Its affordable and durable. He once left it in the yard
and because it rained I was certain It was a goner. Once it dried. It still works! So for that I give it 5 stars!!

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't judge by looks
I bought this digital camera for about $$. I was so excited because it was the first webcam I've ever bought and what seemed as a good price. After a while I regretted buying it in the first place because it takes bad quality pictures in both indoors and out. Besides that I've been having many problems with it (when I try taking pictures it wont work).

1-0 out of 5 stars Let your Kids play with it
I bought one about a year ago for less than $20.00..
In low light it is useless...Bright sunlight takes a half way
good picture.....I laughed when I saw so many on ebay and people
were bidding more than I paid...I'm only here because I was searching google for how to take a picture with it again so I could let the kids have it......I wish I could rate it a ZERO! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Zap This Deal!
The Argus Photo Phazer is an excellent little camera especially for beginners expecially Kids. Not only does this little camera look like a ray gun, and interests little kids in digital photography, it is a crowd pleaser that functions as a standalone video camera (about a minute of video, works well with Windows Movie Maker), an internet video camera (works well with NetMeeting and Windows Messenger), it is a nifty little camera. It takes around 70 still pictures, it defaults to taking pictures outside, and you must navigate the nifty liquid crystal menu to activate the flash, it is great. It takes pictures at 800x600 and 1024x768. The cameras enclosed software works great, it comes with a belt case, a hand strap, a holder, a usb cable, and lots of fun. Just add a computer (works well with atleast 300mhz, 32mb ram, and 4 gig hd on Windows 98 [works with macs]). The photos are good enough to print. Once added to a PC, this great gift idea will provide months of fun. Very good for beginners, kids, parents, etcetera. I love mine.

3-0 out of 5 stars TWO stars plus an extra one just for LOOKS
Form over function!

Spent yesterday at trade show at which my buddy had one of these cameras. Drew a LOT of attention and started quite a few conversations.

BUT it has some drawbacks:

The biggest one being that there's no display screen to see what you've taken - and isn't instant gratification the idea behind digital photography? No idea how the pictures turned out until you take the camera home and dump them into your computer. (Ya might as well be shooting film!)

Every time you turn the camera on, you have to tell it what mode to use - still or video - before it'll work. Ought to default to stills so it's a quick point and shoot. Also have to manually tell it whether or not to use the flash. Ought to be automatic. (It's not like the technology doesn't already exist!)

Mike also had trouble with the software - he never did get it to work even after an hour with tech support who talked him through going into his computer's BIOS to tell it to activate the USB ports. Lucky for him, he had software on his system from another (Polariod) digital camera that happened to have been compatible.

On the up side, it's definitely a WAY COOL looking camera! And because it has 8megs of internal memory, this Phazer holds more pictures than similarly priced competitors.

Bottom line: Assuming you can get the software to work, it's a GREAT TOY but definitely NOT a serious camera. Perfect for quick snapshots to email to friends and family. Worth the $60 going rate but for a little more, you can get better. Pick one with a display and maybe even interchangeable memory. But it won't look as COOL as this Phazer does.

2-0 out of 5 stars Good Toy, Not Very Good Camera
This 0.3 megapixel marvel is a toy. It is not meant for video or serious digital photography. It is a great entry-level camera for a kid, because he can 'shoot' his friend with it. Then, they can go back and see what they 'shot' without hurting anyone. It is a fun camera, but follow my advice, THIS IS NOT FOR SERIOUS PHOTOGRAPHY. It is great fun. Works with Windows 98 and Windows XP (Not as well as other digital cameras).

5-0 out of 5 stars Argus Photo Phazer
It's simple, fun, and has many uses. You can use it as a camera and save as many pictures as you can take. You just plug it into the usb slot in the computer and download. It comes with software that lets you make mosaics, etc. You can use it as a webcam on your computer. You can take it on trips in it's slick carrying case. It pays for itself, because it doesn't use film and doesn't need developing of film. It's simple to learn and fairly lightweight. Carry it in your pocket. I give it 2 thumbs up!

5-0 out of 5 stars I'd have to Say Excellent
I bought this camera and found it great!!!1. It was cheap2. It took great pictures, I don't know what people mean when they say it takes blurry pictures. It takes great pictures.3. The video taping is awesome ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Depends
I bought this camera to use recreationally, as I have never had a digital camera before and wanted to see what it was like. It is, obviously, one of the cheapest cameras you can get. It does well for the price you pay, in my opinion. I would recommend getting the compact flash card, or else you can only take about 6 pictures on low res before it is full. The camera has worked well since I bought it, and transfers very easily to computer and TV viewing. If you're looking for the "perfect" picture, then you'd better go with something a little pricier and sophisticated. This camera would probably be sufficient for someone new to digital cameras.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good value for money
This camera is good for the money. It is good for the person who will mainly use it just for e-mail without very much zoom. You can print photos as long as you keep the photos not much larger than 5x7. Has built-in flash, LCD, and Compactflash Card slot.

1-0 out of 5 stars Worst BUY EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i bought this camera no more then a couple days ago and it breaks! i just bought a new media card and when i went to put it in the thing just froze or shut off. i would take it out then it went back on except the last time i did it, it didnt turn on anymore after that. now i have to return the memory card. i wouldnt buy this camera ever agian in my life. it broke in under two days of use. i hope this helps you.

1-0 out of 5 stars Cheap in more ways than one
Don't waste your money on this camera. The pictures are horrible.
Even worse at the higher resolution. Spend a few more dollars and get something else.

2-0 out of 5 stars Don't hold your breath
If you have Windows 2000 don't even think about getting this camera. The drivers do not work and the manufacturer won't support you. Their updated drivers do not work either. However, if you have XP or 95 or 98 you'll be fine; the camera pratically sets itself up in fact. The users manual is ONLY on the CD, nothing except a quick-start guide comes printed. If you can figure out a digital watch, you'll have no trouble with this camera. Despite its shortcomings: no preview window, indoor shots come out very green, the flash doesn't throw more than 6 feet, max resolution is 640x480, ANY amount of jostle distorts the picture, and the 4 second lag - despite all that, this camera has its up side: it can hold a lot of images right out of the box, the battery life is good, and the daylight pictures come out nicely. This is a decent camera for kids or for your online auctions. I will never buy another Argus camera after my experience with this item however.

4-0 out of 5 stars Nice Little Starter Digital
For the money, you won't do much better. For me, the selling point was the 10-second timer (OK, call me a narcissus, but I like to have the whole group, including myself, in one photo). My one frustration (which I should have researched before purchase, but at this price, I can live with it) is the lack of preview screen. I get around this by taking extra shots of everything, and it stores enough "fine" -resolution (640X480) images to let me get back to my PC to download just before the batteries run out. And when they do run low, it's kind enough to let you know, and will refuse to flash so you don't lose the stored images. Nice idiot-proofing! Then, once you plug it into your PC by the included USB cable, your computer gives it just enough extra power to download the memory. I can't be bothered to spend the extra money on a memory card; besides, you'll need to save your pennies to keep it fed with batteries, as with any digital camera. The highest resolution is still a little grainy to enlarge beyond 4X6, but that's what your film cameras and higher-priced digitals are for. Argus also includes a cable to plug your images into the TV, which is a hoot to view; just remember not to take "portrait" shots (by holding the camera sideways) if you want to give a slide show. And the 2X Zoom gives you a half-size image; you're better off just taking a larger picture and editing out the background. The included software allows you to edit your pictures, but you can't do that on TV. My favorite application is to print thank-you cards featuring my rugrat displaying her latest clothes or toys, so friends and relatives can see their gifts in action within a few days. Sure beats having to use up a roll of 35mm film and pay top dollar for a bunch of goofy faces to get one good photo. The printed manual is a little hard to follow, and the Instruction Manual on disc prints out to 25 pages, but their online help is pretty prompt and helpful. It's small, it's lightweight, it comes with a lot of neat tricks, and if I accidentally shut it in the car door, I won't have to spend a week's salary to replace it.

1-0 out of 5 stars Piece of junk
At first it seemed ok, despite bad indoor color, blurry images, etc. It was good enough for web thumbnail images, and what do you expect this [cost]? Then a month or so later it started going haywire. Sometimes it would not even turn on. Other times it would turn on, but then shut down as soon as you tried to take a picture. At least I got a USB cable out of the deal. Based on this experience, Argus is the Yugo of digital cameras. Don't waste your time on this...plastic junk.

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't bother buying!!
...P>My brother, who is getting a computer science degree, couldn't even install the software. No matter how great the camera is supposed to take pictures, if you can't even see them, they're still useless.

The actual camera is very, very annoying just taking pictures. First of all, the description completely ignores the fact that it lacks an LCD screen. Second of all, the buttons are small, so that it's rather hard to turn it on when you want to, but they stick out, so it constantly was turning on when i -didn't- want it to. Not to mention the extremely annoying beeping that it makes almost constantly. Two long beeps when it's turned on, a short beep when a picture is taken, another long beep when it's ready to take another picture. Not even soft, quiet beeps. The loud, obnoxious beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep kind of beep. It also turns off after i believe is one minute of not taking a picture. This could be useful if you're only taking one picture, but if you're taking a series of shots, such as on a tour of some sort, you'd have to turn it on again constantly. That wouldn't be such a big deal if not for the obnoxious beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeps every time it turns on.

In conclusion, DON'T BUY THIS CAMERA. It isn't even worth anything for kids or beginners. Buy something that has even some value unless you just want a [$$$] piece of plastic sitting on a shelf forever.

2-0 out of 5 stars Barely adequate "Brownie..."
Think of this as your first Kodak Brownie film camera you owned, but with worse picture quality, and you won't be far off. It's OK for as a very first camera for kids (5-year-olds think it's fun), but don't expect it to rock their world... with no LCD screen, much of the fun of digital photography is missing. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Good Cheap Digital Video Camera
I just bought this camera today. At the time I thought I was getting a great deal, but now I realize that I probably paid a fair price accurate of its worth since it is no longer on the market. The picture quality of still photos and video clips of a maximum 10 sec. long is really below mediocre so far. The one I bought was obviously a store return, since it had some very blurry family photos stored on the internal memory when I got it. One thing that is confusing me - There was this one photo of a girl on the beach which was crystal clear. Maybe the camera came with that picture already on the memory as a sample, but I have been totally unable to get pictures anything like that on my camera. The camera was very easy to use once I read the owners manual and it does an excellent job on the sound recordings. It has some quirks on the way you do things which are easy once you figure them out, but if you have ever used another digi. camera then you might be confused. I have used digital cameras of friends and relatives, and since I'm not in a financial position to get a digital camera of any quality, I'm happy, but if you want good pictures or good digital video files and you can afford more, I would recommend something else. This camera is everything that it promises, but it is still "bottom rung".

i thought that it looked cool, but...

i couldn't get it to download, and now i can't review the photo's on my compact flash card

4-0 out of 5 stars I got more than I expected!
After hearing the troubles of digital cameras from many different people. I am pleasantly surprised at the ease of use and the relatively good quality of pictures. The downloading to a PC is a snap and if any trouble comes up the camera can be re-downloaded without a hitch. I work in the computer software and hardware industry so I can say with confidence that this product has a great balance of price and power. Just having the ability to record movies AVI's (short ones) and sound - WAV files should put this product in a higher price bracket . thanks for keeping it affordable Argus

4-0 out of 5 stars Good camera from a local company...
The DC 2700 does all that the box says. Picture quality for the resolution stated is pretty good. It takes short *.avi clips and includes sound in them too. Other cameras don't have the sound. It can be used in Netmeeting too.

I noticed it has a different kind of LCD panel that is not really an LCD, but it is an acceptable substitute. Menus are easy to use, and you can "jump out" to take a picture and then "jump back" to the menu you were in. The camera body is real lite and easy to hold. Its small and narrow, but will not fit in a shirt pocket. I liked that it had a focus ring for the viewfinder and you can adjust the exposure lighter or darker with just two buttons without going thru the menus.

Batteries are not a problem even with the LCD on. Since its not a true LCD, you don't have that problem with batteries.

My only dislike is that I had some trouble knowing how to take a picture in low light situations with this camera. You seem to have to allow time for the camera to adjust automatically to the low light situation.

The pictures you get in hi res are not many with out adding more memory. It takes the Compact Flash type if I remember. The quality is OK if you are willing to accept 640 X 480 resolution. And you can take sound *.avi's. And the software it comes with is pretty good too....

The night-portrait feature is useful for getting that perfect shot in low light, while the electronic self-timer is great for group photos and self-portraits. You can even set the date onto your prints for record keeping purposes.

3-0 out of 5 stars EASY DOES IT CAMERA
I received this camera for a Christmas present. My first digital camera, it's a snap to use. Good quality pictures, easy to use instruction booklet, and conveniently small size are it's best features. The limit of 4 or 8 MB memory cards is a little diassapointing unless one purchases several (they are rather inexpensive). The carrying case is handy and it is thoughtfuly included in the camera package, as is also the software to edit pictures and the serial cable and USB cable. The USB cable makes downloading go pretty fast. A fun, versatile, convenient camera.

4-0 out of 5 stars Quick Fun
I received this as a Christmas present, not to replace my "old" camera, but as another way to play with the computer and photos. It is very easy to use and to hook up to your computer is a breeze. It is very small however, and you need to hold it very steady. It only came with a 4MB memory card, and can only go up to 8MB, but as I said before it's great for quick fun and creativity with software like PhotoExpress etc. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars don't watch the birdie
I have taken pictures with this camera several times. Each time I attempt to download them I am told that there are no pictures in the camera. This camera was a waste of money.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great for the Price
The camera has given me no problems. For the Price it's a great deal. It serves its purpose. Looks attractive too!

2-0 out of 5 stars I agree with Connectikat!
I had a feeling this camera was going to take horrible pictures from the moment I opened the package. It's a light plastic thing with no flash. I definitely recommend it for children who are just starting to take pictures - who don't care about the quality. I spent about an hour trying to make my pictures look good with the software they provide. It still didn't help. If you're looking to get a digital camera for pictures that you wish to look at often and show to other people, don't waste your money on this one.

2-0 out of 5 stars You get what you pay for...
...and as far as this camera is concerned, that's not much! This is actually my second purchase of the Argus DC1500; the first one was defectve and had to be returned. This is a nice little camera for a child or someone just starting out, but you definitely won't get the features available on some of the pricier models. For one thing, this camera has no flash, so be prepared to do all of your photographing outdoors! Also, there were no instructions included in either of the two cameras I bought, so I'm basically winging it. There IS an "addendum sheet" explaining the included video and photo software, but what's it an addendum to? I find this camera very difficult to use. As long as it's plugged into the computer I can take pictures, but since there's no flash, they all come out fuzzy and I end up tinkering with the brightness levels just to get a decent result. On the other hand, it's SUPPOSED to run on three AAA batteries, but that option has rarely worked for me. Not sure if it's a problem with the camera or the batteries. In short, I regret purchasing this camera and will most likely be trading it in for a better known and more reliable model. Live and learn! ... Read more
