Amazon.com Product Description

Despite a low price tag and small size, the JVC SXM250 has the versatility of recording in three different formats. The SVHS mode creates high quality recordings that rival the broadcast TV standard, and you can record with the same high resolution on any VHS-C tape with the SVHS ET mode, or use the standard VHS mode and enjoy the greatest level of compatibility with other players. Other features of the camcorder include a large 2.5-inch LCD screen, 16x optical zoom, video light, 70 special effects and transitions, title generator, and VHS-C playpack.

Lens
The optical zoom magnifies up to 16 times while the digital zoom, which works by electronically enhancing the optical image, reaches up to 600 times. The digital image stabilization system keeps the picture steady and solid throughout zooms and camera shakes. The low lux function boosts camera sensitivity in low light situations to improve the video image.

Manual controls such as focus, exposure, and white balance give the user greater flexibility in shooting. The SXM250 also has digital enhancements such as a time base corrector and chroma noise reduction that enhances picture quality.

Inputs and Outputs
The standard RCA input/output and cable are included so you can hook the camcorder to a TV for convenient viewing or a VCR for dubbing to regular VHS. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars good for the $$$
This camera does a GREAT JOB for the price. It has all kinds of great features and effects. The only negative I can think of is that it makes a slight noise when zooming in and out.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent choice for first time video camera buyers.
This is the first video camera I've purchased, and I'm completely satisfied with it after several months of use. I've found it to be affordable (important initial consideration), lightweight(important if you're brave enough to let the kids record), simple to use(important if you let grandma borrow it to record the other grandkids), and the recordings to be top-notched. These basic features and an excellent brand-name should make any new purchaser feel confident with this camera as his/her initial choice. One caution, the camera's package includes everything you need but a blank VHS-C tape (something experience camera users are aware of, but novices are not, hence the 4 stars, not the 5).

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent for the price BUT...
We love this new camera because it is the same features we had in our old camera.. We wanted a new one that had the flip out screen and for the price it cant be beat... BUT we cant believe they took away the personal title generator where you could type your own title in instead of using the 7 or 8 presets they have... It was a must ~ now we will have to learn to do without.. Still a great buy for those not willing or ready to go to digital and still wanting the top features...

2-0 out of 5 stars "Last of the Mohicans "camcorder
I bought this camera thinking since it was VHS it would perform better in low light (as did my older 8mm)than a digital one. WRONG. It also will drain the battery in 15 minutes. Resolution is poor with VHS mode and svhs tapes cost too much. Noisy tape makes me weary. Don't waste your money on this old"last of the mohicans" format. Just get a digital camcorder and buy a light. My $299. digital Sharp blows it away. I can't hardly give it away. Want mine for $150?

5-0 out of 5 stars EXELLENT CAMCORDER WITH A LOW PRICE TAG.
At first the camera looked like it was just a odinary one until i tried it. Wow everything was just so great 700X digital zoom could almost take any distant shot with just a click of a button. This Camera is fully loaded with image stabilizes and inbuilt light the rotatable lcd was simply facinating and it was very clear to me that this camera could take evryshot very clearly especially the image stabilizer comes in handy when you are travelling in a RV or a Car toshoot the outside Nature.

Amazon.com Product Description

The JVC GR-SXM730U offers the convenience of VHS-C in a sleek, lightweight design. It is equipped with a 3-inch high-resolution color viewfinder for more realistic visuals while shooting, and has a built-in light that improves the picture in low-light shooting conditions. The digital picture stabilizer gets rid of annoying picture shakes. Your viewers will appreciate this feature during playback because it will make your recording easier to watch. It also offers a 16x optical and 400x digital zoom. This is ideal for catching action at sporting events or just at home in your backyard. The zoom is a variable-speed zoom triggered by finger pressure with numeric zoom ratio readout in the viewfinder/monitor.

The camcorder is capable of three recording modes. Super VHS recording offers 60 percent better resolution than regular VHS. SVHS ET allows you to record with that same high-resolution using any VHS-C tape. For full compatibility with any VHS video player you can record in standard VHS mode. VHS-C format tapes are simply smaller-sized VHS tapes. You can play your VHS-C tapes in any VCR with the included cassette adapter.

The SXM730U also features an integrated digital still camera that takes snapshots and stores them on the internal 2 MB of flash memory. You have different snapshot modes like full screen, pin-up, or multipicture. You can take up to 60 photos at the standard resolution with VGA size 640 x 480 pixels. With the included software and cable you can import your photos into a computer for editing or e-mailing.

For editing, the GR-SXM730U offers digital wipes and fades, audio dubbing, and insert editing as well as a black fader, and has a quick review and retake function. There are 88 different combinations you can play with for digital special effects, wipes, and fades. The title generator features eight preset messages in English, Spanish, French, and Portuguese. 5-0 out of 5 stars Everything I Wanted and More
When I decided to start shopping for a camcorder, not even fully intent on buying one yet, I ran across this particular one early on and, somewhat to my surprise, never found another one that offered as much as this one did. When I think of videorecorders and video cameras, I first think of Sony, but Sony didn't really offer a product with all of the features I found in this JVC camcorder. When I began my search, it didn't take long for me to decide that I wanted a VHS-C camcorder: I wanted to play my videos in a VCR, and I could not really afford a digital camcorder, anyway. Next, I decided I wanted a color LCD screen that was at least three inches. While zoom capability wasn't really that important to me, it also did play a factor in my decision-making process. Finally, if possible, I wanted something that could also serve as a digital camera.

This camcorder has all I wanted and more. In terms of recording modes, it offers S-VHS, S-VHS ET, and VHS. I'm not a photographic expert, but the S-VHS video playback of my tapes was much sharper and clearer than I expected; as far as I am concerned, digital video could not look much better than this and certainly offers no advantages for me to justify the extra expense. I should say that the camcorder is very light and comfortable in my hand no matter how much time I spend recording. As for the LCD screen, it is very nice. The colors, especially depending on the angle from which you are viewing it, often seem too bright, but the picture on the tape itself is perfect. One thing this model does not offer is a color viewfinder, but I don't plan on using the viewfinder much at all anyway. The black and white image on the viewfinder is very good, but using the viewfinder only serves to make you stumble around with your eyes pointed down. With the LCD screen, you can remain a part of the action as you record rather than come off as "some guy with a stupid camcorder" terrorizing your family and friends. The display rotates 270 degrees, as well, so you can record from almost any angle. One important feature of this camcorder is digital stabilization; it's hard to walk around and maintain a steady shot, and this features helps keep the jerky movements to a minimum. When it comes to zooming in, this camera really outdoes most of the competition, offering 400x . While anything at the maximum zoom is naturally going to be pretty grainy, the video quality is excellent until you get close to that maximum. Recording in darkness is also not a problem for this camcorder; besides having its own light source, it also comes with a "Night Alive" feature that increases light sensitivity and allows you to get color video in dark environments.

This is a dual camcorder, serving as a digital camera as well as a video recorder. Certainly, the quality of digital photos is not quite as good as true digital cameras offer, but they look really good to me. With 2 MB of flash memory, it can hold up to 30 digital images at one time. Other cameras offer a higher capacity for digital photos, but this is enough for me. The video capabilites come first in my mind, and the digital picture feature is just icing on the cake. The software that comes with this product is really good (at least for an amateur like myself), and I had no trouble hooking the cable up to my COM 2 port and downloading images.

There are a myriad of other features, many of which I am still just exploring. There are many combinations of screen fades/wipes and special effects. You can film your video as an old, black and white movie, really annoy your friends by stretching the width of the picture and making them look fat, add a strobe effect to jazz up the action, add a fog element for that touch of fantasy, or--my favorite--use video echo to make everything look ghostly and weird. There are more features than I can discuss here in this review.

Returning to simpler matters, I must say that the documentation that comes with this product is excellent. While it does take some time to figure out all of the many things the camcorder can do, there is no problem getting the thing up and recording almost right out of the box. On a final note, I must add that the sound quality is also very good. Since there is no way to use an external microphone with this product, I worried that I would have a hard time hearing people's conversations on tape. This is not a problem. Not only does it pick up the sounds you want to hear, it also picks up a lot of ambient sound as well. All in all, this JVC product offered me everything I really wanted in a camcorder, and I am more than happy with it. Now all I need is something interesting to record. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Easy to use,
I have used this camcorder now for at least 3 years and it's a wonderful camera. I have used it everywhere, including weddings, birthday parties and during vacations. Since this camcorder is VHS formate, I like it how my recordings can easily be played in any VCR with just an optional VHS playback adaptor. It has neat features, like digital wipes and fades that can be used at any point to make a transition between scenes. It even reduces unwanted jitters from recordings made while walking or in a car. I also like it because it's very easy to use; and it has great digital zoom.

4-0 out of 5 stars A blind bat could use this camcorder
This is a great first time camera. It is so easy to use that my next door neighbor, who was 5 at the time knew how to use it without me having to tell him anything and he isn't very bright. It is very simple to figure out, you press the red button when you start when your done you press it again. The only flaw is the battery that came with it has memory meaning you have to run it all the way out before you recharge it or it can only fillup to the level you stopped at,for example if you run it down 70% and then recharge it it will only go back up to 70%. The memory battery isn't the best!!! But the camcorder is great for anyone.

1-0 out of 5 stars Buyer beware
I recently go a JVC camera, works wonderfully -- I especially liked the download capability into my PC. Then I upgraded the PC to Windows 2000, and the PC could not talk to the camera any more...

So, if investment protection is on your list of requirements, buy from a competitor who will support newer Windows versions and not leave you stranded...

5-0 out of 5 stars Great camcorder
I have been looking around at different camcorders and have done a lot of research on most of them in this price range. This one is very simple to use, the video comes out very clear. The LCD monitor is very clear. The only thing I don't like is the on/off switch is in a hard to get to spot and it is flat, but I can live with it.

1-0 out of 5 stars A very bad choice (it broke for no reason TWICE)
When I first bought this camcorder in December 2000, it seemed to work pretty well. But after 4 months, the zoom button broke. Then for no apperent reason the whole camcorder completley stopped working, so I had to send it to the JVC mechanics to get it fixed. When it was returned (after spending a lot of money to get it fixed), it worked well, or so I thought. Only 2 months after having it returned, the zoom button broke again, and the viewfinder turned green.
Not wanting to have to send it back again, I decided to live with it, but a year and a half later, the built-in lense got stiff and the view-finder turned solid white, not allowing me to even look through. About a month after that, things got worse-- the button which you press to record FELL OFF, the playback stopped working, and the viewfinder turned BLACK, rendering the camcorder useless. Shortly after it broke (for the second time), I bought a different camcorder (the Panasonic PV-L452 Palmcorder Camcorder) and so far, it is working much better.
If you are taking into consideration what kind of camcorder is best for you, don't get this one, EVEN if you like VHS. I was also disappointed by the fact that this camcorder doesn't have an LCD moniter (a screen that folds out), that it doesn't have a built-in light or nightvision, and that the battery doesn't last long. Also, this camcorder only has a 90 DAY warrenty. If I were you I wouldn't spend over 200$ to see this cheaply-made camcorder fall apart (which happened to me).

1-0 out of 5 stars Horrible camera
The picture quality is unacceptable, the VHSC format is a pain, it goes through batteries too fast, and it's shoddily built. Take advice from a guy who works with this kind of stuff all day. I bought this thinking it might be a good low-budget camera for home movies, but it's really worthless. After a month of terrible looking home movies, mine stopped working for no apparent reason. When I tried to call JVC, their customer service line disgusted me so much that I gave up, threw it out, and bought a slightly more expensive Sony model. I'm completely pleased with the Sony, and I highly recommend their camcorders for anyone. Just make sure to get the Digital8 format, it's really the best out there.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great lil Camera..
My buddy took some video with this camera and it looks really good.. its small affordable and gets the job done..

4-0 out of 5 stars Nice entry-level camera
This camcorder is nice for the amateur or anyone looking for an inexpensive camera. The variable-speed zoom and fades/wipes are features that can add a professional touch. It is light enough to take anywhere, and has a long enough battery time to withstand the long haul, unless you're planning on filming a low-budget movie with it (Blair Witch?). I enjoy this device, but I would urge anyone with a bit more cash to go for a higher-end model.

4-0 out of 5 stars palm size camcorder
I like the idea that it is small. Since i have bad shoulders and can't carry anything very long this is great. It also works in the VCR so that you can watch it on TV. The price is great since most ar so expensive you can't often afford one. But this price anyone can. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Good Camcorder - Could have gotten bang more for my buck!
Don't get me wrong, this is a good camcorder. I love all of the functions and it's really easy to get started with and use. The built-in light and stability features are too die for. There are tons of accessories you can get to enhance your pictures and vhs quality. But, it's not a true digital camera. And the digital camera function could be improved on. I get better quality photos using my scanner at home. The software that comes with the system is not adequate either. I feel that the $649 retail price I paid for this camcorder is WAY too much.

However, all-in-all the camcorder is excellent. But I do recommend you buy a back-up battery or stay close to an outlet because the battery barely makes the full 2 hours it claims it has. We thought we'd be able to shoot basketball games, but it barely makes through the first half on 1 batterty. If you can get a good deal on it go ahead and get it!

4-0 out of 5 stars Nice, easy to use Video camera
Nice little unit. Had a cassette jam when I first got it. Had to send it in ( at my expense ) to Chicago, for repairs. Turn around time was 2 weeks. After that, never had another problem.
Good photos, great zoom. Bought several filters and both a wide angle and telephoto lens to add to it. A must for this camera is a polarizer lens filter. Really brings out colors and reduces glare from water...... Simple to drop the small cassette into the vcr adapter to plug and play them immediately, or just hook it up directly to the TV to view. I also like the remote that comes with the unit. WARNING........GET EXTRA BATTERIES, AND A CHARGER. It eats power like peanuts.
This was my first video camera purchase. I am happy with what I got.....Not too complicated, but has features for me to grow into. It is not digital, but it also doesnt have a digital price either.

3-0 out of 5 stars Buy a less expensive model for same results.
I bouhgt this model last year for Christmas and sort of regret it. The quality of the video and ease of use is good, but it is no better than a VHS entry level model. My greatest beef is how wimpy the battery is for this top of the line model. If you buy any JVC, you really need to buy an extra battery or you will miss moments that you want to capture. Buy the basic model with the LED screen for basic use or pony up for a digital model for all the bells and whistles.

2-0 out of 5 stars Don't waste your money in this camcorder
I have owned JVC camcorders for the last 10 years. So when I decided for a new one, all the gadgets and the viewfinder/monitor were really appealing to me, I chose the JVC GR-SXM920U palm-size compact VHS-C camcorder. Even though the gadgets are really good, I couldn't regret more my choice. The digital camera is a joke. It distorts the images being captured (very good to create funny faces). The quality of the image created is very low, mainly if you use the stabilizer feature and is indoor. Also, be careful when editing or reviewing your home-video, because if you forgot to turn the machine off before connecting it to your video or TV set or PC, it may burn. Actually, once I had "operating on safe mode" message and couldn't find instructions how to fix it, solution? went back to the store and had it replaced, but I lost my son's bithday video, because the store technician and I were not able to open the tape compartiment. If you care more about image quality than with gadgets, look for something else.

5-0 out of 5 stars AWESOME
LOVE THIS CAMERA.....BEAUTIFUL PICTURES WITH TRUE TO LIFE COLOR....EASY TO WORK AND PRODUCED WONDERFUL ANIMATION ALSO.....LOVE ALL THE DIFFERENT GADGETS THAT ARE OH, SO EASY TO USE...THE LIGHT ON THE FRONT IS VERY HELPFUL WHEN YOU ARE IN LOW LIGHT AND TO SUM IT ALL UP...THIS IS AWESOME....I LIKE IT BETTER THAN THE MORE COMPLICATED JVC DIGITAL CAMCORDER WHICH I ALSO HAD....THIS IS SO EASYYYYYY. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome!!
Was lucky enough get in on this one for $219 during last weeks Friday Sale, and good thing I did, as it didn't last long! Works great out of the box, EXCELLENT quality and deals with low light situations nicely. Can connect it to any VCR or computer with S-Video connection (or analog RCA). Still, I probably wouldn't have paid $349 normal price. But it's really nice and very comprable to DV's. And I got a free case, tripod, and cleaning kit! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Camcorder Good Sound
The sound on this camcorder is good. My 12 year old son was able
to make a very understandable commentary on his video shoot.
The video is very good, even on standard "SP" mode-not S-VHS.
I was able to use zoom to follow a cat outdoors at 30+ feet and
on playback on a 48" RPTV I could see each of his whiskers
very clearly. The controls are not in the most ideal position.
The camera has good balance. I feel this a good family use
camera with a lot of features to keep it up to date.

3-0 out of 5 stars JVC sounds Bad
I recently purchased the Jvc GR-SXM740U Camcorder and took it on a trip. The picture quality was super. However I was very dissatisfied when I returned home and started to view the movies I had taken. The sound was awful. I filmed some of our movies outdoors and you sort of expect the outdoor sound quality to be less the perfect. But when I watched the indoor movies I could not believe it. Four people in one room and at times three of us could not be heard. It gave me a headache trying to listen to it. Then randomly the camera would just pick up stray noises outside. So beware of this model if you value sound and video. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars JVC Customer Service Terrible
I received this camcorder for Christmas. While the picture was very good, and the features plenty for my family videos there was an annoying whine in all recordings. I found it was recording the whine into the tape, not just a mechanical whine while playing inside the camcorder. I contacted JVC and was told that unless I had a receipt and proved I received the camera within the past 90 days I would pay for its repair. Even if I got the receipt from the person that gave me the gift I would pay shipping to have it repaired.

Perhaps I expect too much, but when I open the box I expect something to work, and if it doesn't I expect the manufacturer to immediately accept blame and fix it. Being treated as if I am to blame because I have no receipt at Christmastime is poor public relations. They should at least be able to check the serial number for a manufacture date and then see if my story is reasonable. I had another product fail recently and was promptly sent a replacement without the first question of whether I had a receipt. That company will receive my business in the future, JVC will not.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Very Good Choice
I found the video results from this camera outstanding; clear and crisp with perfect color. I also found this camera easier to load tape and battery than my old Hitachi Hi-8. However, I find using the controls of this camera somewhat difficult and cumbersome. If you can't afford a Sony Digital Hi-8 camera, I suggest this JVC compact camcorder. With Super VHS-C tape in the camera and Super VHS tape in the JVC VHS recorder, for the price, you can't go wrong.

2-0 out of 5 stars The JVC Camcorder GR-SXM240 Super VHS VHS Compact

Amazon.com Review

If you're looking for a lightweight camcorder with all thebasics and more, the JVC GR-AX841 is a good choice. Itcombines a wide selection of automatic and manualshooting options with the ease of the VHS-C format, giving home users a go-anywhere, shoot-anything videorecorder.

The JVC GR-AX841's slim, flat formmakes it easy to carry. It offers an adjustable colorviewfinder and a built-in lens cover, which lessens thehassle of carrying around an extra accessory. The uniqueside-battery design keeps almost all the selection buttonshandy at the back of the camcorder.

The JVC GR- AX841's pictures are bright and colorful, although itsVHS-C format is by nature less sharp and clear than Hi8or digital formats. VHS-C does have the huge advantageof universal playback--it uses normal VHS tape woundon a smaller cartridge, so you can play it in any VHSVCR (using the included VHS-tape-sized adapter). VHS- C tapes also tend to be less expensive than other non-VHSformats.

We liked the wide range of effects offered bythe JVC GR-AX841--it has four different fade modes, plus seven exposure and effect settings, including theespecially useful antiglare and twilight exposures. TheJVC GR-AX841 also stands out because it lets youmanually adjust exposure, focus, and white balance, making it more suitable for amateur videoproducers. Overall, we found it both easy to use at thebeginner level and helpful in more advanced work.

Pros:

  • Lightweight
  • Manual exposure, focus, and white-balance adjustment
  • Wide selection of auto-exposure and effect settings
  • Easy access to buttons

Cons:

5-0 out of 5 stars what a great camcorder and value!
JVC GR-AX841 VHS-C Camcorder We use this unit to supply warehouse security systems to the industrial market. No wonder it is out of stock at Amazon (May2000). The camcorder arrived and was setup in about 10 minutes. It has performed without a 'hitch' for several months. The AV output is routed to an Intel PC Camera ProPack webcam. Intel provides with this product a low cost.... time lapse and motion detection software CD utility. Both the JVC and Intel parts work well together. I suggest buyers focus on Windows98 and 64MB RAM on their PC to avoid USB lockups on their PC. We are well pleased and the systems work daily with only a regular environmmental housing we made to protect them from dust and cold. JVC makes a fine product which we will buy again due to its value and reliability. Thank-you!

5-0 out of 5 stars The best camcorder I've ever used!
When I decided to buy a camcorder I spent a good month researching and shopping around. This product caught my eye in a display window in a popular department store here in Australia, and was reasonably cheap, so I assumed that it wasn't a great product. Even so I checked it out, and discovered that it had everything that even some of the most expensive camcorders have, including digital zoom and numerous special effects. It was light weight and easy to use, and I don't regret buying it for a minute. Once out of the box, I had a quick look through the manual and had the camcorder figured out in a matter of minutes. The picture quality is brilliant, and I would have to say that this JVC product was the best investment I have made in a long time. I highly recommend it to anyone looking to buy an easy to use, no fuss camcorder, and being JVC you know it's a brand you can trust.

5-0 out of 5 stars great
this is the easiest camcorder I've every used. I'm a real clutz when it comes to electronics, but even I can use this one with ease. It's great!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Camcorder
This is my first one (treat me gently!). I took it out of the box and was using it in 5 minutes. I bought mine on Home Shopping, so I say it fully demonstrated. Also, unlike most VHS and VHS-C camcorders, it has digital processing. You usually only get this feature in high-end 8MM camcorders.

5-0 out of 5 stars this is the easiest & most enjoyable movie camera to use.
It's a great movie camera. my son who is 7 uses it to make his godzilla movies. i use it for all kinds of events. it is quite quick and easy. the review above says two things that i agree with most. the fact that the controls are on the back (with battery on the side) and the lens cap is built in.

the backgrounds were easy to apply and there were several to choose from.

the on off switch was a bit awkward. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Had for Many Years and Still Love It
I bought mine at another store several years ago. I have only recently had any problems with it and that is the batteries. They do not charge anymore because of age and use, but other than that, this camera has not had any problems. I have never had trouble with the door. I love the effects. As soon as I can find a replacement battery, I will be back to videoing. I have taped a moving train, cats runing around and even a funeral on this baby. It is a great camera for as old as it is.

1-0 out of 5 stars product nogood cant find anyone to return it to
i have recieved my camera it does not work at all they stated that it was still wrapped in its plastic and even though it was it had been used enough to have the paint on the buttons wore off the battery is so used up it will not take a charge or the recharger does not work and the adapter does not work`this camera is junk and now i cannot get ahold of anybody to return it to!!!!!

1-0 out of 5 stars Only good for awhile
Took nice pictures and I was very happy with it until the cassette door started to not work properly and other things started acting up. It is now 14 months old and off warranty and needs to have the cassette housing assembly replaced at a price not worth considering. We were told this was not caused by neglect or improper usage.

4-0 out of 5 stars good camera
I just got this camcorder, and while I haven't played with it much yet, I can tell that it is fine for my purposes -- home shooting on special ocassions, holidays, etc. I did much research and this was one of Consumer Reports top-rated analog models. So, unless you want to make a movie, save yourself a few bucks, and the blandishments of salespeople, and buy this camera.

4-0 out of 5 stars The very best for future parents
Hello I was a new parent about three months ago and somebody told us when you have a kid buy a camcorder! We did and this is the one we purchased. It works excelently and captures all our precious moments on camara and now we can watch them over and over and over. It is the greatest thing, the camcorder works so well and has alot of features that you may not find on other camcorders. It is very convinient and super simple to use and hook up. It is one of those things you buy where you can honestly say you can take it out of the box and start using it in minutes. If you buy any camcorder this is the one to buy I support and suggest it to all who like it and I will say I love it. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars lots of technical problems
this is a very easy camera to use but we have had lots of problems with it. i think it is a very cheaply made camcorder and i would advise buying another. about 1 year after we bought it just stopped working. we took it to be repaired and it cost [$$$$] to fix it and it took 4 weeks. it was the one time i wished i had bought the 'extended warranty' from the store.
soon after that the light stopped working--it actually still records ok in low light but it's kind of annoying to not have it for some things. then, 3 days before this christmas it started acting up again and all of a tape we shot came out with half the screen distorted and unviewable. when i took the tape out to investigate there was a wire sticking up which obviously was not supposed to be there. rather than pay and wait for repair we just tossed it. i'm very suspicious of JVC now.

4-0 out of 5 stars pretty good
this camcorder is okay. its not very good for making pro movies, but it gets the job done. its pretty cool. i lost the remote control to it, but with it, you can re-record sound, play it back, all that cool junk.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good Machine
I really like this machine. The owner's manual is good and the features are useful. For VHS-C format, one has the option of standard-play for 30 minutes of recording or extended-play for 90 minutes of recording. The night vision feature is good - I recorded shots in almost total darkness and the camera made it look like the lights were normal in the room. The LCD screen is really good so that the user can use it for shooting or for playback viewing. The zoom freaked me out at how sharp the picture could be at about 50 or so yards. The price seems okay and this camera is a pretty good deal - for my purposes anyway.

Amazon.com Product Description

Despite a low price tag and small size, the JVC SXM750 has the versatility of recording in three different formats. The SVHS mode creates high quality recordings that rival the broadcast TV standard, and you can record with the same high resolution on any VHS-C tape with the SVHS ET mode, or use the standard VHS mode and enjoy the greatest level of compatibility with other players. Other features of the camcorder include a large 3.5-inch LCD screen, 16x optical zoom, video light, 70 special effects and transitions, title generator, and VHS-C playpack.

Manual controls such as focus, exposure, and white balance give you greater flexibility in shooting. The SXM750 also has digital enhancements such as a time base corrector and chroma noise reduction that enhances picture quality.

Inputs and Outputs
The standard RCA input/output and cable are included so you can hook the camcorder to a TV for convenient viewing or a VCR for dubbing to regular VHS. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Camcorder for the price

I love the 3.5 inch screen. Most cams are only 2.5. That was a great feature. There is so much more to play around with, but I'm sure we'll be pros in no time. I would reccomend this one to anyone. ... Read more
