5-0 out of 5 stars Great Point and Shoot for the price
I bought this camera for my teenage son. The pictures were crisp and the features very easy to use. On a recent vacation, my personal camera broke and I used my son's camera. I was very surprised that the pictures I took with it were as good or better than the ones I had taken with a more expensive camera.

1-0 out of 5 stars Poor Camera
This camera definitely has some major problems with its film loading system. Like the other reviewers, I couldn't load the film in even after too many tries. A very disappointing product.

3-0 out of 5 stars How many times does it take to load the film?
I recieved the Samsung 70GL Power Zoom Ultra Compact Camera as a birthday present. It was given to me early so I could take pictures of my daily events during my vacation. I did have trouble loading the film. On several tries, I had to open the loading 'bay' and replace the film. I belive I might have exposed several frames on the roll just to get it to take. Is there some type of problems out there with this particular camera? and if so, is there a fix for them? Please let me know I would like to take full advantage of this product!

1-0 out of 5 stars Camera didn't work
I could NOT get the film to load properly; the display kept flashing an error message, even after trying 2 different rolls of film. A week later, I went to a camera store and mentioned that I'd bought this camera off the 'net and the trouble I'd had with it. The salesperson took THEIR display camera and had exactly the same difficulty with it. Obviously, this unit has some problems.

2-0 out of 5 stars Less than happy
I would say it is an OK camera - for its low price.

The picture quality is so-so, and the buttons are somewhat hard to reach. I will have to wait and see how the product does in terms of reliability/durability. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Camera
This camera was one of the best that served me for a long time.

5-0 out of 5 stars Terrific photos
This is a great little camera with some features I have barely explored after using it steadily for 4 years, in both city and way out there back country.
The only problem I have had was with the flimsy little plastic leaves that cover the lens when the camera is off. Apparently they were damaged by grit in some of that windy back country, but they were easily replaced.
This camera is so reliable and easy to use, I sent mine to Africa for 3 months with my son, a true photography novice.
I would buy another in an instant if I could find a place that still has one in stock.

5-0 out of 5 stars splendid camera
This is a lovely camera, has all the features, and they work wonderfuly. A word to the wise, though. Go to Ebay(where I got mine), nobody needs to pay retail for these guys, they aren't THAT good.

5-0 out of 5 stars Super camera
I love this camera. It's very reliable and user-friendly. It's by far the best standard one-piece 35mm camera I've ever had.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Camera!
I have to say that this is an excellent camera. It is super easy to use, lightweight, afforable and the photos come out clear and precise. I work in a gallery and I wanted something that was more versitle than my manual Nikon for documenting events, artwork and to use later this year traveling. I feel confident recommending this product for vertually any camera user, both amature and professional! ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars good but one serious flaw
I'm pleased with the quality of the pictures but the shutter speed is very slow, as is the startup time of the camera, the time between shots and the zoom. I realy miss a lot of nice pictures of my kids because they just don't hang around in the sme position for the minute or two it takes me to open the case and zoom.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Great Camera
I purchased this camera and was impressed with the size - functions - and ability of this camera. I read the book and started taking pictures immediately with no problems what so ever. The audio feature with still prints is FANTASTIC. The night mode is incredible also. I wish I had had this camera at Christmas because it takes GREAT night shots even on a low resolution. I would highly recommed this camera.

5-0 out of 5 stars good enough for everyday use
I didn't like this when my dad bought me without asking my opinion because it doesn't look cool.. (I needed to show off to my friends)
While using it for six months, I started to like this camera for its features and pics' clear color.
Night shot mode makes picture like professional shot.
and I could also send my sister's movie clip to my dad by e-mail.
You can also put 10 shot mode which will take 10 high detailed picture continuously. I prefer 3 shot mode for perfect pose. (in case people close their eyes or red eyes.. or..so..)
Its case is not just cloth made scratch proof one but its very strong that even if you drop it, camera will hardly damaged.

I hope samsung makes it little more cool looking one next time.

5-0 out of 5 stars Easy to learn, easier to use. Great camera for little money
Prior to buying this camera, I had a Kodak DC215, a SanDisk Reader for downloading the CF card to my computer. The Kodak was 1.3 megapixels and since I do a lot of landscape painting, it just wasn't giving me the details I needed. I decided I wanted a 3 megapixel camera. Then I saw the prices, and started shopping for a 2 meg. While Target had this on sale for $.... I went for it. I have printed out 4 x 6 prints that look like they were developed in a photo place. Ease of settings impressed me along with the choices I had for taking the pictures. The software that comes along with the camera is pretty good also. I already had it on my computer. I've used the camera in many settings, candid, portraits, landscapes and have been very pleased. Battery life seems pretty good. To take my shots I've been using the LCD screen and no problems. Only recently I had to use the viewfinder because the LCD screen will black out on a bright day. Even the viewfinder gave me the shots I was looking for. If you are looking for the action shots, why not try the 10 continuous shot mode that the camera provides? Any way I look at it, I think it's a great camera.

5-0 out of 5 stars digital excellence at the right price
This camera is something of a marvel. It comes with 4 AA batteries, a very swanky carrying case, and all the software and connections that you need. It has a multitude of different settings that all you to change the quality of picture the picture. It also allows for short videos to be recorded in the AVI file type. Pictures are taken in the JPEG file type. It takes Compact Flash media cards and comes with a 16MB card. The menu options are easily maneuvered through with the four directional button. All in all it's an impressive tool for your digital imaging needs. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Camera
The Samsung Digimax V4 (a slight variation of this camera) was by far one of the best overall digital cameras I'd seen when I was researching cameras to buy, and I'm very glad I purchased it. The thing that made it stand out the most from other cameras was the battery usage. I've heard of some digital cameras using their batteries really quickly, but the batteries in this camera can last me a full day of photo taking. It can take several kinds of batteries, AA x 2, Lithium, and more. When I come home after a full day of taking pictures and pull them up on the computer, they look so clear and beautiful-every time it seems my jaw drops, the quality is amazing. Even a friend of mine who is very knowledgeable of cameras told me that he was stunned at the quality of the JPEGs I was showing him that I'd taken. Not only that, but when you go to the max zoom (which makes use of the digital zoom, which technically just "crops" the picture and enlarges it), the picture still looks just as clear as the normal pictures that didn't make use of the zoom.

Something that doesn't usually get mentioned is the lens company. The lens company that makes this camera's lens is Schneider-Kreuznach, a company that's famous for its quality in lens making. Because of this quality, this camera might possibly give you overall better looking pictures than a camera that has perhaps 5 Mega-Pixels. This is a great buy for beginners and those who love taking quality pictures. There's plenty of information about this camera all over the internet- this should definitely be considered if you're looking for a great camera at a reasonable price.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great camera for price and functionality
The camera is very user friendly, my 3rd digital camera and this is the most user friendly I have seen yet.

Both my 14 year old and my 10 year old grandsons use this camera with ease, including the movie mode. This does not mean that this is a bottom of the line camera. It is a VERY good camera for any user ablility and age.

The down side is that it is almost impossible to find the accessories for this camera. Fortunately mine came with the AC adapter and the case that actually goes to this camera. I have not seen either anywhere online. There is also an optional remote control for this camera but finding it has proven to be unlikely at this time.

But still; overall a perfect camera for someone/anyone who does not want to take time to read a manual.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent little camera - same model as the V4
In case you were wondering, this is the same model as the V4 and it takes very sharp photos outside, and not as sharp inside w/flash, but still very good quality. All this was done on "easy mode" so the photo quality gets even better when you manually select the finest quality. I haven't ventured into that yet. It's pocket-size and comfortable to hold. I shopped extensively and researched comparable digitals, and Samsung seems to have put a lot of thought into this one and the price is very competitive, which was a big deciding factor for me. For an amateur like myself, the easy mode works very well. For an experienced photographer, there are many possibilities. My original goal was to find a digital with a large LCD screen, however, I learned that the larger screen eats up batteries very quickly. This LCD is only the standard 1.5", but the image is very sharp so you get a good idea of what the photo will look like. I'm new to digital photography, so I cannot tell you how long the different types of batteries will last you. I've read that the rechargeable li-ion batteries perform the best, and next to that would be the AA NiMh 2200 mah or higher. But the best information I received was on a great website called "Steve's Digicams". It was very helpful. I do recommend this camera, but please keep in mind that I've only owned it for a few weeks, so I have not encountered any technical problems. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars My take on this camera
May I recommend that the user, who complained about the red-eye effect not working, tha he / she checks the camera setting? If it is not on the regular -A- setting, red eye feature doesn't work. Other settings include sports, landscape and etc.. (One good thing about this camera is its multi-functions and features, which can be bad for people who get confused and frustrated easily - I am one of them)

I can understand the frustration of the buyer who gave one star because of poor reliability. I have experienced similar cases in the past when buying electronics, but not with this camera. It has been money-well-spent and the first battery I put in, it lasted more than two years (I took at least more than 300 shots with the first battery). If you have more money, I recommend Evoca 170 which gives you more range.

4-0 out of 5 stars Samsung140sQD
This camera has many features that others don't.The price is reasonable and the camera is very appealing to the eye.The only thing I don't like about the camera is when the film is advancing it's a bit too loud. Other than that I love this camera.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent buy!
I can easily say that Samsung Evoca 140S is the best point-and-shoot camera I have ever used.

The pros and cons of this camera in my opinion are as follows:

(+) The camera is very small and extremely lightweight. Samsung has done an excellent job in squeezing loads of features in such a small space.

(+) Variety of shooting modes: I won't list every shooting mode here and take your time (you can check them out in product details), but it has *a lot* of shooting modes for a point-and-shoot camera, including panaromic mode. When taking a panaromic shot, the camera adjusts the viewfinder so that you can actually see the shot in panaromic mode before shooting (didn't see this feature in many cameras).

(+) Flash modes: Evoca140 has a number of flashing modes. To me, the most important 'flash features' were: 1) red-eye reduction, and 2) the ability to take photos at night. Red-eye reduction works perfectly (didn't have a single red-eye in about 30 rolls), and the flash is powerful enough to take good pictures at night. When using a flash is impossible (for example, when taking a photo of a distant object at night), you can use the bulb mode to take beautiful pictures (However, make sure that you have a tripod for this).

(+) Power save: I don't really know if this is a common feature among point-and-shoot cameras, but, I like the 'power save' feature of this camera. It shuts itself down after 30 seconds if there is no user interaction.

(+) The 4x zoom works perfectly: The clarity and color of pictures were perfect in the entire 38-140mm range.

(-) The only drawback in my opinion is the buttons on the top side of the camera (which are used for flash modes / date-time / captioning etc). They are very small and a little hard to push. Forget about adjusting the flash mode when you have your gloves on :) But given the size of the camera, I probably shouldn't complain about the size of the buttons.

To summerize: Given the price of Evoca 140S, it is an excellent buy for a point-and-shoot camera.

5-0 out of 5 stars EXCEEDED OUR EXPECTATIONS
I don't know how the camera will hold up in the long run but we just got back from Las Vegas and the photos that were taken with this camera were just beautiful. Extremely sharp, great (hand held) night photos, colours were great. We are extremely pleased with the results and hope the camera will be with us for a long time.

1-0 out of 5 stars Unreliable Waste of Money
Based on the two other sterling reviews and the recommendation of a local camera store, I purchased the Evoca 140S in August. I hesitated because after reading reviews for other Samsung models, I read two very different viewpoints...the camera was fantastic, or the camera was a piece of junk.

After having the camera for less than two months, the red eye reduction and the back light feature stopped working today. When the camera worked the pictures were fairly good. However, I've now spent over $... (with shipping) for a camera that is already defective. I wish I'd purchased it from a local store, because at least (with many stores) I could return it. I will now have to deal directly with Samsung, reputed to have horrible customer service.

I hope anybody considering buying a Samsung camera will listen to my experience, as well as that of other Samsung purchasers (Amazon reviews....other models.) I had a Samsung vcr break within the first year, and between that and the other negative reviews I thought "no way will I buy a Samsung"...but then the praise for this model (and the lack of negative reviews) changed my mind....I consider that my $... mistake.

P.S. the motor is very loud when loading, advancing or rewinding. This would be a problem if you needed to take pictures in a quiet situation.

Update: 6/03: after getting the camera fixed at our expense (Samsung Customer service never responded or helped), it has worked fine but I would like to point out one other drawback. In automatic mode, the flash takes a full 10 seconds to recharge. 10 seconds feels like forever when a posed group is waiting for you to take a second picture, or if you're in a situation where the action doesn't wait for you (indoors graduation last week)....even with 800 speed film I had to wait 10 seconds...I'm sure that somebody proficient in cameras would know a way around this, but for the average person who wants a "point and shoot" camera with zoom capacity, it's a huge drawback. For this reason alone, if I could do it over I'd buy a different camera. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Flash burnt out
I had very few good picture before flash burned itself out (black mark inside) Finding service was enormous hassle and then costs more than camera is worth. Lasted way less than a year but missplaced the warranty so I am stuck. Will never buy this BRAND again.

1-0 out of 5 stars Not a great camera
I purchased this camera for the features and size, I was very disappointed in what I got in the mail. The camera is not very reliable at all, sometimes it will take a picture but most times it will not work at all. I'm hoping I can return it cause buying this camera was a mistake. If you do buy this camera you need CL2 batteries in it not the el123 listed.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great camera ~ great price
This camera is a great compact 'point and shoot' with great features for the price. I have developed a few rolls now and am quite pleased with the picture quality. It would be nice to have date imprinting (on the back of photos) rather than in the corner. The zoom button (tiny!) is very close to the shutter button - and yes, a few pictures have been taken accidentally!! Another accident happened when my son took a picture and tripped the back cover release - only lost a few pictures from that roll. Overall, this is really a GREAT compact camera that will fit into your pocket. I'd buy this camera again - just have to be careful with the location of the buttons.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Camera but today not work anymore
the camera is good, but someday I take the number six picture and the camera never work again, today nobody fix this camera.
But I still thinking the camera is very good, the pictures was clear and high colors, I'm use this camera only twice.

5-0 out of 5 stars Get terrific shots without fuss.
The Samsung 90GL is a lot of camera for the money. The zoom range is terrific and has perfect focus on close-up portrait shots. The red-eye reduction feature gives my pictures a professional quality. It also has good definition on landscape and distant subjects. We took pictures in front of a big fountain and this camera even caught the water drops! Several idiot-proof features keep me from wasting film. After an entire year of use I am happy to say that I've been happy with every single picture. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars _
This camera is good for beginners . The zoom isnt that great. Pictures come out good as long as the object isnt moving. It EATS batteries though. After a year with this camera , the plug for the USB cord got loose. So im'm stuck with a photo album unable to load the pictures on to my computer.

3-0 out of 5 stars Decent, some problems
The main thing that comes to mind when i think about this camera is the rate at which the batteries wear out, it is a real compromise. The quality is nothing more than decent. It's fine for use for work or something, nothing more.

4-0 out of 5 stars A decent entry level digital camera
All I needed was a simple camera that could take resonable quality jpgs for newsletters and websites. Outdoor pictures are fairly good and indoor (flash) pictures are quite acceptable. The sensor is rated at ASA 200, so keep in mind that flash range is only about 12 feet.

With a 32M flash card it holds 69 photos at high resolution. Downloads are easy, the digimax viewer/browser is excellent and all the included software seems to run well enough in Windows 98.

The only flaw is that it is too easy to leave the lens in macro position when taking normal range photos. On the plus side, the macro pictures are excellent. With Nickel-Metal rechargeables and conservative use of the LCD screen, battery life is "not bad" for a digital camera. All things considered, a decent camera if your needs are modest.

3-0 out of 5 stars A Great Beginner Camera
This is my first digital camera. It is really easy to use, but there are two flaws I can think of. The batteries wear out pretty fast, so I am planning on getting rechargable ones soon. The other is that the pictures on your computer are very large. They take about 1 minute to transfer to another user on AIM, which is what I use mostly. I'd rather the pictures be half the size, because I have no use for large images.

5-0 out of 5 stars Cool
This is wonderful for a beginner or intermediate photographer, though it only has 1.3 megapixels. ... Read more

In recent years Samsung has gained a reputation for developing great technology at lower prices, which the SCD86 will only enhance. Among its many features are a large 2.5-inch LCD screen, shoe for external accessories, remote control, nine digital special effects, and a color onscreen display with an easy-to-use dial navigation controls.

Lens
The SCD86 has an optical zoom power of 10x and a digital zoom that can magnify up to 400x, which works by electronically enhancing the optical image. It also has a four-step variable zooming speed that controls the zoom according to the amount of pressure you apply to the toggle. The digital image stabilization system keeps the picture steady and solid throughout zooms and camera shakes. The infrared function allows you to shoot visible video in situations with practically no light.

Digital Stills
You can store your digital stills directly onto tape or onto the included 8 MB Memory Stick in JPEG format. MGI PhotoSuite III, photo-editing software compatible with all Windows operating systems, and a USB cable are included with the camcorder.

Inputs and Outputs
The standard DV IEEE 1394 port (also called FireWire) is present for no-loss connections to PCs or other DV machines. Transfer your digital stills onto your computer with the USB port, while the S-video and RCA connections are used for direct viewing on a television or for VHS dubbing. You can also plug in an external microphone via the mic jack for better quality sound.

4-0 out of 5 stars Not a point and shoot
We bought the camera as a return from a major department store that had taken it back from someone who had bought it one day and returned it the next. Most of the attachments were still in their bags. We got a price of $300 because it is a closeout and it was returned.

The first thing I noticed is that you can't even charge the battery without reading the manual. While that isn't a big problem for some, I am sure that it would be frustrating for people who want to pick it up and play with it. I am a little concerned that the dc (power)attachment and the pc (computer)plugs are approximately the same dimensions and are both rectangular. They are not particularly near each other but with someone who doesn't read instructions and is prone to forcing things, something could get damaged.

You get an 8MB memory stick (upgradeable to over 128Mb) for still photos and very short videos but you need to buy tapes. Then you need to be sure that you select the correct recording media on the side of the camera.

The camera portion is 1MB resolution; hardly high quality clarity for a digital camera these days but the video will operate in almost dark conditions. You can send the signal from the camera to a VCR, a TV, or a Computer, so it is extremely flexible.

Overall, if you are looking for a vacation camera that does videos and will take snapshots, this is a good choice. However, you need to read the manual. There are 17 buttons and switches on the outside of the camera alone, so you can't just point and shoot out of the box.

4-0 out of 5 stars Cool camcorder. Lot of features for the price.
The best thing I liked about this camera is price per feature. I got this camera few days back and have tried all the features in the manual. I am very satisfied with pretty much all the features. The still digital camera mode is ok. The quality is ok for pc application, but just ok for printing. I did not, however expect a lot for this price.
It has everything nite pics, dig effects, back light comp, stab comp, memory stick and a lot more. I am happy with it at this moment. This is my first samsung product so reliability and cust support is yet to be seen. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars SamDUNG SCD80- it sucks!
Just days after buying it, it started shredding up tapes, poor video quality, poor customer support, and when it doesn't eat the tape up, it can't even play it back properly without having serious playback problems. I have talked to others about this cam-- same thing. SamDUNG.

1-0 out of 5 stars Go with a Japanese brand
Even though Samsung licenses the technology from Japanese vendors, they suffer 1) poor quality control, and 2) terrible ergonomic design decisions, and 3) extremely bad customer support -- don't expect to find anyone if you need support such as warranty fulfillment. A much higher-quality JVC or Sharp doesn't cost much more, and gives you years of trusty service. The image quality on this model is pretty poor, prompting a Korean reviewer to call it worse than many 8mm camcorders. I can't comment on audio, but I'd be really really surprised if a Samsung can have better audio than a Panasonic, which Digital Video magazine gave a very positive review of.

So go with the best and get a reliable Japanese brand.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great cam for the price
After looking at a ton of cameras I stumbeled onto this one. But I couldn't find too many reviews but the ones I did find only praised it, so I went out on a limb and bought this bad boy. And I'm glad I did. For the price this cam cannot be beat. The picture quality is excellent, not broadcast mind you but hey, it wasn't 3 grand. The zoom and auto focus work really well and so does the night vision. You can see in total darkness. The sound also picks up great because the mic points toward the front not the sky like many other cameras. A cool thing about this camera is that there is no red light when you are recording so you can get real candid shots. The battery lasts for a long time, one charge will last me a week when I film skiing everyday. And the charge only takes about 30 min. The tape load is on the bottom so it cannot be accesed while mounted on a tripod, but it's not a big deal. One thing I've noticed is that when filming in the cold you have to let it record for a few extra seconds or else what you were trying to get will be cut short. Other than that I haven noticed any problems. BTW it does not come with a firewire cord, or the lens attachment that appears in so many pictures of it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect for the price, if your like me
Lets face it, we dont all have the dollars to throw on just any expensive camcorder...so if you want something affordable, you dont want it to be cheap. In other words, you dont want to sacrafice the price for the quality. This model has done the opposite, and made me happy to spend what little money it cost, and has had terrific results. I dont want to go into the detail like the guy before me did, but I will say that he was right about all that he said. Its really a worthwhile buy, and you cant go wrong with a great company like samsung.

4-0 out of 5 stars A more in-depth review than the rest
Since no one here wrote a thorough review of the SCD80, and since I've been a long time Amazon customer, I feel it's time to give back.

Overall, this is a terrific camera for amateurs/novices especially. It has a LOT of nifty features for something this cheap. I won't reevaluate the basic technical features, such as the zoom aspects, as it was already covered in the Amazon Editorial review.

To start off the review, I'd like to mention what I think to be the most important aspect of any camcorder - video quality. I noticed indoor shooting, in low light situations, the quality can indeed be grainy. It's worthy to point out that I've read reviews of other MiniDV cam's in the $300-500 range and people complain about the same thing, so it's simply how much lux your camera has (the more, the better, the better, the more expensive :) ). If you have lighting set up, you can remedy this depending on how much lighting is provided.
Outdoor quality, on the other hand, I must say I am very impressed, especially in comparison to the indoor shooting. I didn't have backlighting problems (when the sun or backlight is so intense and over glaring that your subject becomes dark). In fact, the quality was held intact, AND there is a backlight button if you ever encounter that. Though, as my teacher explained to me, it's best to use WarmCards and exposure settings :)...up to you which works best.

The second most important aspect to me, Audio quality, in my opinion, is AWESOME. The Panasonic PVDV52 MiniDV camcorder, in comparison, one reviewer on amazon says:

"The built-in microphone has very poor sound quality - voices sound very tinny. I wish it had a way of connecting an external microphone."

Hahaha. You won't have this problem w/ the SCD80. As long as your subject is aimed at the front of the camera, you'll pick up voices perfectly. Whatever I shot and recorded, I picked up all the sounds I wanted and needed. In fact, depending on your location, it's so powerful it can pick up the sound of an airliner in the sky. You can use the "WindCut" feature on the camera to suit your needs. Also what's great here is that THERE IS a built-in mic jack w/ the SCD80!!! Not only is the sound quality great as is, but there's the said "WindCut" feature, as well as a mic jack. Though, unfortunately, and this is only through one test, it didn't pick up sound well enough to be considered "good" quality. I guess it simply depends on the mic you use, and the placement of it.

Other things..The LCD screen is adequate, and is the only viewfinder of the two I use. The other viewfinder being the "peekhole," which is in black & white, smaller resolution, and harder to film through. The camera is light, not heavy and clunky. As with most, if not all MiniDV digital camcorders, it has an iLink, or IEEE 394, connection (cable or PCI card not included). Don't have the cable or the PCI card slot, so I have yet to test a transfer to my PC myself.

To break it down..
PROS:
* Audio & Video quality
* size and weight
* connectivity (S-vid, A/V, external mic jacks)
* Additional features (remote control, Audio dubbing, night shooting, Lithium Ion rechargeable battery, AC Adapter in-box).

CONS:
* Low light/indoor shooting = grainy
* External mic jack isn't that terrific (like I said, it could be better depending on a better mic and/or placement of the mic)
* Very minor, only for college students working on projects or for amateur film makers. As with all consumer/prosumer MiniDV cam's, once the power supply is interrupted, or tape is removed, your timer for the next recorded shot will be set back to zero. Once again, if you're shooting a project for school for instance, it will be a bit harder to edit on the computer.
* This is the same w/ the past CON. Again, when power supply and/or tape is interfered w/, and you want to shoot on the same tape after a previous scene/shot, it is VERY HARD TO BACKTRACK AND EDIT! You'll have to find a good spot to backtrack to, and most likely you will have recorded over a few PRECIOUS, PRECIOUS milliseconds of the previous shot. I believe this applies to all or most consumer/prosumer MiniDV camcorders.

To sum it up, some companies may throw in features just so you'll buy their product over a competitor's that doesn't have that feature. However, in this case all of the said features work incredibly. In a similar example, the Panasonic PVDV52 again, and one particular Sony model, a Digital 8 camcorder I believe, has a rechargeable battery with it. But it dies very quickly and those that purchased it were FORCED to buy a new battery, at a VERY high cost. So, w/ the Samsung SCD80, you don't have to worry about that, for example.

I recommend this camera to amateur film makers and students alike (both like myself, heh), as well as for the average person who records precious moments in life (like birthdays, special events, etc.). Even w/ the few minor hiccups (see the CONS section), the audio and video quality outweigh those hiccups alone...not to mention the cool extras you get with it!

Remember to use lighting, and enjoy filming!
I hope this was more helpful than the other "reviews" here. ... Read more
