A total of three hundred advanced tones are programmed with DSP tones to make the Casio CTK-691 a rich and powerful sounding keyboard. Advanced tones like stereo piano and tremolo electric piano highlight some of the possibilities beyond the 516 standard tones. You'll also receive fifty realistic drawbar organ tones. If you want even more control over your tones, you can edit the parameters of preset tones and save up to a hundred original tones in user tone memory. Built-in flash memory lets you expand your selection of tones and rhythms by downloading data from the Casio music site, or from other sources. You can also store up to two hundred SMF format music files for playback. The keyboard comes with 140 rhythms. The backlit display shows chord names, tempo setting, keyboard information, and staff notation of notes played. The general MIDI tones of this keyboard let you connect to a personal computer to enjoy desktop music capabilities. This keyboard can be used as a desktop music input device or sound source. The keyboard runs on an AC adaptor (AD-5, not included) or 6 D batteries which will power the keyboard for up to four hours.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great value for money
It's fun , it's versatile, it's very playable and great value for money. Not only that; but AMAZON has it at a knock down price. You can't find a better keyboard value at this price! I'm using it in home recording, for live music applications and for songwriting. Its portability as well as versatility makes it a leader. The sounds are very realistic and the inboard speakers give excellent sound. Don't be put off by the Casio name and think this is just a toy. You can make some serious music with this puppy. I'm really enjoying mine (bought from AMAZON of course!). ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars NO AC ADAPTOR
I WAS CUT OFF THE LAST TIME I TRIED TO LEAVE A MESSAGE. SO, TO MAKE A LONG STORY SHORT. YOUR 149.99 PRICE IS $185.54 BY THE TIME YOU PAY TAXES, SHIPPING AND HANDLING. THE KEYBOARD DOES NOT INCLUDE AN AC ADAPTOR. I AM TOLD THEY ARE AROUND $30.00 AND IF YOU BUY THE WRONG ONE IT WILL BLOW UP YOUR KEYBOARD. WE ARE GOING TO TRY OUR BEST TO RETURN THIS TO TARGET. YOU SHOULD BE NOTIFIED OF THE EXTRA COST AND THE FACT THAT IT DOES NOT COME WITH AN AC ADAPTOR. BATTERIES ONLY LAST ABOUT 6 HOURS.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Entry Level Touch Sencitive Keyboard But Beware
I recently have decided to learn to play the keyboard. As a complete beginner I decided I wouls begin with a keyboard as opposed to a piano to learn, and possibly move up as I gained experience. I must say, after recently purchasing this instrument I am thoroughly pleased.

Upon receiving this, which is the entry level, or lowest priced Casio model to feature btouch sensitive keys, I found there to be to defects in the way that the keyboard functions, and it is free of the low volume problems that are apparant in yamaha's entry level touch sensitive model.

I also learned that, however, the buyer should beware. Not only does this product arrive without an AC power adapter, but it also lacks a sustain pedal, which is essential to anyone who plan to use this keyboard to play at least intermediate music.

The model numbers for the adapter and the sustain pedal are located in the owner's manuel, in case you do decide to purchase this otherwise problem free product. But buyer beware however, that the price listed above is not the final one. Add on approximately, as I know from experience, about 15 dollars for the adapter, and 20 dollars for the "optional" sustain pedal, plus taxes.

Overall, however, besides the additional costs, I have found this product to be of plaesing quality and have no other quibbs about it. The keyboard only possesses 61 keys, however, 27 short of a full 88 key keyboard found on high level digital pianos and acoustic pianos, being 5 octaves plus one key. If 61 keys is not enough, I recommend you look elsewhere.

For the beginner, I do recommend this product, but beware the extra fees.

1-0 out of 5 stars THIS THING IS BAD
This is so bad. My sister has a $30 key board and it works BETTER! I was so mad when I got this product. Its a high price for something little. WOW. do not and I repeat DO NOT buy this you will be sorry. It stinks. Well thats what I have to say.

2-0 out of 5 stars Beware-final price is higher
Beware. The price listed does not include the cost of the AC power adapter. Furthermore, you must take care to make sure you get the correct power adapter, something I am not finding easy at this point. Unless you want to replace the batteries every six hours while you practice, the AC power adapter is essential - as Casio knew when they put this device on the market.
Had it not been for that one issue, I would have been absolutely elated with this product. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars No countdown time
Please note, despite the editorial review description, this watch does not have a countdown timer. Indeed it's the only flaw. I don't know why the description is in error, but beware!

5-0 out of 5 stars G-Shockingly great watch!
I love knowing that my watch is ALWAYS in perfect time. My workplace uses the atomic clock for it's network time so I know that my time is in perfect synch with every PC, network server and timeclock, as well as every clock in my house! If all of your friends have one, your will always know exacly what time everyone has! I am also VERY hard on watches. I can hardly ever keep one for more than a few months before I manage to break them, but I plan on having my G-shock for many years.

4-0 out of 5 stars For Punctuality Freaks - Like Me
Even though I lead a life of leisure, knowing my watch is correct to the second is important to me. I find this watch very comforting in that respect. I would like to address the problem of picking up the atomic signal that a couple of previous reviewers mentioned. I wonder if they set up the watch as the instructions dictate, laying it flat, near a window, away from electronic interference, etc. I live in an area of poor radio reception, far from the signal in Colorado, but the watch successfully receives the signal overnight if I follow the instructions. It's true, however, that it can be difficult or impossible to get the signal manually or if I haphazardly leave the watch lying around overnight. I have found that if the watch misses the signal one night it's still on perfect time the next day. Therefore, I'm very happy with its accuracy. I can't give it a five-star review because I find the function buttons don't work well. The way they're recessed makes it hard even for slender fingers to push. I like to use the stopwatch function for cooking, but it's rather annoying to start and stop it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good watch - quirky battery
I have now purchased two of these watches and both batteries have died after exactly 2 months of use. Overall, this is a really great watch; well made and solid. I've had no problems receiving the atomic signal each night at 5:03AM. The only problem I've had is the fact that the battery does not seem to recharge itself under normal conditions. I wear the watch everyday, outdoors and indoors and in all types of light. I have since discovered, however, that if the display ever goes blank (like mine did) then all you need to do is get into some direct sun light and it should recover. I can't seem to ever get the battery to show a "full" charge regardless of how long it's been in the sun. I turned off the auto light feature on my watch as I believe that was probably contributing to excessive battery wear. Again, a great watch but a bit of an annoyance with the quirky battery performance. I had to edit this review and revise my rating on the watch once I discovered the trick to the battery. I would recommend this watch but just be aware of how to solve the problem if the battery goes dead and the display goes blank.

2-0 out of 5 stars Waveceptor Doesn't Work
Lacks sensitivity to receive WWV signal every nite. Receives signal once about once a week on average. Returned three times under warranty. Casio replaced watch. Replacement doesn't work either despite Phoenix being only 800 miles from Ft. Collins CO. Other atomic clocks in the house work just fine. Evidently watch won't work in some locations. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Best Thing
The Casio Twincept Series is one of the best things that has ever happend to the watch's industry's customers.
I have the twincept ABX-53 for 7 years by now, and I have never thought about replacing or anything like that.
Unfortunately, like VolksWagen's Beetle, it's too good to be kept selling over.
So take that chance, and enjoy life!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Watch with Databank
Dual Time, indiglo, light weight, cool looking watch.
Has Dial display and digital time, along with databank to store phone numbers (about 30). The best feature of the watch is the digital display on the glass/faceplate and the dial behind it is really nice concept, indiglo button on the bottom portion is very convienent, lastly the watch can be used for casual formal wear (sometimes) by just turning of the electronic display!
I have it for 2 years now, no problems, never took it off my wrist, i have other watches too, but never felt the need to wear another one with this with me

4-0 out of 5 stars Lots of "Bells and Whistles" for the Money
This watch is a techie's dream. You'll have hours of fun punching all the data into it. I like the scrolling feature of the data stream. The auto-illumination feature is nice but the "on time" is much too short for my taste. I do understand they are conserving battery life however. The feature I like the most is the five programmable alarms. You can even put an eight character memo on each alarm. I do not like the resin band. I think there is a model with a metal band for a few bucks more. Overall: Great value for such a high tech watch!

4-0 out of 5 stars Glad I got it
I was initially put off by the review that said this was an over-ambitious watch. I'm glad I read the next, and went to the owner's manual online at Amazon. I've had this watch for a few weeks and like it a lot. It's readable, the basic features are easy enough to use, and it has what I want: alarm, stopwatch, timer, calculator, databank. Oh, and a timekeeper! The light is bright enough, the numbers easy to read. Good watch for the money.

2-0 out of 5 stars Plastic band often breaks
I've had two Casio watches and I am always having problems with the plastic band. It would break right where the band is connected to the watch. Does anyone know if the metal bands are any better? I am really tired of buying Casio watches if their plastic bands are always going to break, usually within 2 years of use. It's a good watch and I like the features but I think the product is poorly made.

5-0 out of 5 stars Clarification for previous review
Clarifications: 1)In my previous review I mentioned a metal band - this is another version, which Amazon has discontinued. 2) The telememo mode does require one button press it didn't before, on the other hand it takes fewer presses to get there, and then you can get to what you want much more quickly by pressing the first letter of what you want, which can save a lot of time if you have 80 entries.

5-0 out of 5 stars Well designed, pushing the limits of space
This watch is easier to use than the previous version!

I owned the previous version for 7-8 years until it broke. I hesitated to buy this (based on the previous review), until I looked at the instruction manual via Amazon, which made me realize it's easier to use than the older one!

They figured out the problems with the old one (buttons too small, too many button pushes to get to each mode), and fixed them.

It still isn't perfect: letter entry means cycling through the number and the 3 letters per button to get to the one you want (4 choices, up from the 3 you had before, because to make the buttons bigger they reduced the number of buttons and fit more on each); you have to learn a fair amount from the manual to use it; case and watch, tho better, are still the standard, (not impressive looking) brushed steel look you get at this price.

I disagree with the previous reviewers complaints: each mode is easier to get to, and they're ready to use when you get there (no extra pushes: you do have to wait a couple seconds for the display to change, but you can start entry right away, and the display catches up).

You can't enter as many alarms on specific days (limit 5) as before, but I never entered more than that anyway - this really isn't a replacement for a PDA, it's an addition that I use for the most critical information and reminders.

All in all, about the best you can do with this amount of space, I'd say. I'd ask for a better case and band, and the ability to sync or communicate with a computer. ... Read more

"The watch can be worn on the wrist during any hard sports ... during motorcross, chain saw operation, rock drill operation, and so on." This, from page 2 of the Casio User's Guide, pretty much sums up the G-Shock line of watches. When Casio launched G-Shock (the g stands for gravity) in 1983, the idea was to create an unbreakable watch, which, judging from the appearance of this formidable looking timepiece, is exactly what they've done. This G-Shock is as thick as your finger and includes all the usual sport features--stopwatch and split times, backlight, alarm, and countdown timer. The watch's calendar comes preprogrammed through 2039. The three small dials lined up across the top of the face are more stylish than functional: when in stopwatch or timer modes, they illuminate in chronometer fashion to indicate various fractions and multiples of a second. Whether you're breaking rocks, snowboarding, or just going for a walk, the Casio G-Shock should be ticking no matter how hard you work or play. Comes with a rugged, thick black-plastic watchband and a two-year battery. --Harry C. Edwards ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The best all-purpose active/sports watch I have ever owned.
I have brought this watch through the trials of time and it continues to function flawlessly. I bought this watch before enduring 6 weeks of boot camp at the United States Naval Academy. The Casio G-Shock performed great in the mud, rain, rivers, and grueling sessions of physical training. If it can handle the military, it can handle any civilian duty!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Smash it, thrash it, crush it and it continues to tick
One of the best watches I have ever owned. A poster watch when it comes to durability and functionality. Doesn't have complex functions and bizzaro controls, but rather is suited for just about every individual. If you are an active outdoor individual and are afraid of hurting your watch when rollerblading, snowboarding, anything -- then buy a G-Shock and you will not be disappointed.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Most Rugged Watch In the World
This watch is the best all purpose watch. I am a Firefighter and I rely on this all the "time". I also reccomend this to people who work with electricity because of the all rubber design there is no chance the band will conduct and shock you unlike metal banded watches. And the price is the best I have seen. ... Read more

What cn i do. will the midi cable help me learn titanic and show me on the keylighting system what keys to press. Iam not sure

5-0 out of 5 stars Help for Cathy
These cables require you to switch the output end of the cord to the input port on your keyboard, and vice versa. The next thing you need to do is go into \Control Panel\Sounds and Audio Devices. Choose the Audio tab, and you will see a box called MIDI music playback(assuming your running windows OS). For the default device, choose 'MPU-401' from the drop down and choose 'apply' then 'ok'. Set the keyboard gm mode to 'on', and play any MIDI through media player or real one player. Your MIDI file should play through the speakers on the keyboard. Your son will have to switch the navigation channel to pick up the different ranges of the song. Hope this helps. I got this info from Casio.

Can any one help me with this nice keyboard my son loves the key board. I could not get him away from it in the toys-r-us store . 10 year old boy with lots more toys to see and buy all he wanted for chrismas was this key board. We got him the key board . But the song at the store was not on the key board when we took it home . The song was from the movie titanic. Please tell me how to us this keyboard and down load from my computer so my son can learn the song he longs to play? Thank you Kathy

3-0 out of 5 stars BE WARNED -- may not work
Neither this listing nor Casio's web site mention if this cable includes an opto-isolator. Without it, you could have problems communicating between MIDI gear and your PC.

Look around for MIDI-to-PC cables that have an opto-isolator. They aren't any more expensive, and they could save you a lot of time and headache. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Digital Watch
Over the years, I have bought nothing but this particular watch. I got my first 6 years ago, and had it for 4 years until it met its end in the washing machine. I drove over the second (whoops!) and am now on the third. The reason I keep coming back to this particular watch is that it is rediculously easy to set and use. In the traditional time mode, there is an option for 10 seconds of backlighting, and a toggle between 12 and 24 hour mode. Press "mode" and you continue on to the alarm settings. You can toggle the alarm on and off, as well as set a chime for the hour. The exact same process is followed to set the alarm as to set the time. Press 'light', then use the 12/24 button to increment the fields, and 'light' to continue through all the fields. If you changed anyhting, pressing mode returns you to the time, otherwise, pressing mode again takes you on to the timer. 12/24 starts the timer, light spltis the time, and 12/24 again stops the timer. Pressing light while stopped clears the entry. Pressing mode returns you to the time if you used the timer, otherwise, it continues on to the set-time screen. This behaves the same as the set alarm screen, except you also set the date here.

After 6 years of using this model watch, I have found exactly two problems.
1) The date didn't increment to Feb 29, 2000. It went to March 1, 2000. But I was able to manually set it, and it's been fine ever since. We'll see what happens Feb 29, 2004.
2) My first one had a type of cloth for the wristband. It wore out relatively quickly, leaving me with the watch but no band. The plastic/rubbery band is much more durrable.

But the positives are much more numerous:
1) Extremely easy to set.
2) Batteries have never wore out on me, and I use the backlight frequently.
3) Nice backlight.
4) Logical "menus"
5) Intuitive navigation - I am a computer programmer, but I've had other digital watches that I could not navigate through with the manual. This one is usable without a manual.
6) Year 2000 compatible! :)

This watch is worth far more than Amazon (or anyone, for that matter) charges for it. ... Read more
