Not Bad At All
After reading several reviews and doing some extensive researh on several entry level digital cameras I finally purchased this camera yesterday. And contrary to some of the reviews posted on the NET, the image quality is excellent, it just takes some work to get your photos to come out properly. For example, if you are taking a photo in a dark setting, turn on the flash and it will come with good results. Also, make sure you keep your hands still when you are taking your uor they will come out blurry. Furthermore, make sure you are standing an appropriate distance from the image you are shooting. All in all, the quality of the pictures I have took is above par and are comparable to the higher end cameras at more than half the price. Ir just takes some work, but isn't that where half the fun is? One complaint is that the video software is..Well..It stinks..Not only does it not provide audio for your videos, but the streaming video comes out VERY blurry. Not a big thing for me, since it's hard to find any1 to video conference with and I do already have a QuickCam Express which is more than satisfactory. All in all, I was pleased with my purchase of this camera and my images came out better than I thought they would.. Oh, a couple of other ti[s for you guys that are thinking about buying this camera. If you wanna delete your old images, just click on the record/play button at the back of the camera and press the shutter button on the image you want to delete. Simple. And if you want to delete all your old images, simply click on the play button and then the flash/timer button until you see the word ALL on the right hand side of the LCD screen, then press the shutter button.Again..Simple...Another thing...When taking pictures remember to wait for the green light to stop blinking before you move around..The image doesn't get processed until the light stops blinking. All this is explained in the manual so make sure to read it..That is all. This camera is worth the purchase and to all of you that did not find it satisfactory. Perhaps your expectations were too high?The software that comes with this camera is also pretty good. Nothing spectacular compared to Paintshop pro 7 and Photoshop which I own, but decent nonetheless .The USB connection also makes d/ing images to your comp a snap. Just plug in your cam, goto Corel PhotoHouse and follow the instructions on the manual. That's all there is to it!...

Good camera.
I've had no problems with this camera. I got what I expected. An inexpensive, low end digital camera. The pictures seem to be a bit better than those taken with a 110 camera. Prints at 3X5 done on an HP952C look great. It's not as hard on batteries as some have said. Perhaps if you use the flash a lot, maybe it would be. I've taken over seventy low compression pictures so far and the battery meter still says full. The flash is probably the weakest feature. Kind of a desperation option. In house pictures under regular light look great. Just keep the camera still. What's new about that. The download TWAIN driver transfers 16 low compression files to PC in about 10 seconds.

I'm happy with it. Someday I'll want more quality and features, but this camera is a good start.

Poor customer service to back a poor quality camera
After using this camera for a short amount of time, the camera's photo quality went from ok to exteremely fuzzy and speckled. One area of the bits didn't even record picture information, resulting in a white spot in my picture. Even when used as a web cam, the camera has fuzzy, speckled video feed. When I contacted AGFA about it, they gave me a long distance number to New Jersey (I am in WI), and told me repairs would be charged to my credit card!

Skip Agfa ePhoto CL18 if you have Windows XP!
We got this camera for my 11 yr. old for his birthday. It took a month of finagling to FINALLY reach Agfa tech support (in Venezuela or somewhere) before we could get the computer to recognize the camera. DON'T PLUG IN THE CAMERA TO YOUR PC BEFORE THE SOFTWARE IS LOADED OR YOU'LL GO THROUGH THE SAME!!!! Once that was fixed, though, it was great! Nice pictures for the price (we just printed them on our regular PC paper), great for a kid. We took a million pictures the first year of use. Then we upgraded to a computer with Windows XP.... *sigh* The new driver on the website didn't work (seriously crashed the whole computer). When I once again contacted tech support, they said they have no driver for Windows XP and don't plan to develop one. The end. Useless camera for us now...

Unable to download pictures.
I've tried to install the software at least 10 times...on two computers and two different operating systems...always the same result...pics won't download, if fact, I have to shut the computer down cause it freezes. ... Read more

The price of this camera is good, but...

This is not 2mb camera, I think this is 1mb camera.
This camera do not make 640x480 images, I think it`s make 320x240 interpolated image.
The image is bad and dark. Forget, dont lose time.

Buyer Beware
This camera eats batteries...We finally purchased an AC adaptor at Radio Shack to use when we are downloading photos but it still goes through the batteries very quickly.

This camera works best for outdoor pictures. Indoor pictures are either too dark or washed out if the flash is used.

Also, although this camera is still being sold by many retailers, according to AGFA they are no longer producing or selling this camera and the software for it is unavailable.

Just awful; avoid at all costs
I bought two of these for my kids and they are awful. The picture quality is so low that only about 10% of the photos are worth keeping. And being for my young children, my standards are very low. I bought them almost as a toy, and STILL I'm severely disappointed. DO NOT BUY.

Ok for beginners...it's the Hyundai of digital cameras.
This was my first ever digital camera and once I had it out a couple of hours and found myself looking for more batteries! Operation is very simple and easy to use. However, it comes with the smallest available memory card and I suggest buying a 128mb card...Well worth the money for extended (more than 12) hi-res pictures. At this point, my LED stopped working. The cost is almost as much as the camera, so, I'm buying a new Fugi 5.0 mega pixel. The image quality difference is mind-blowing. Spend the extra money and buy at least a 2.0 mega pixel camera with the extra toys that don't come with the cheaper cameras. If the camera doesn't come with the AC-adapter for home or the additional battery pack keep looking for one that does. The alternative is pulling a wagon behind you full of batteries. ... Read more

Love this little baby.
For the $$$ you really can't beat it. This is my first and only digital camera so I wasn't sure about getting one but it's worked out great. I'm gonna try and answer all the questions that I had before buying and hopefully that will help you. Q: No zoom, is that bad? A: Not really. The software that comes with it allows you to zoom and crop the picture in your computer. Q: Is it difficult to download the pictures to my camera? A: No, it's a simple process and only takes about one minute to complete the download. Q: Does it use up a lot of battery power? A: Oh yes, she's a maniac for power. But this is easily solved. I went down to my local store and bought a battery re-charger and batteries. Problem solved. Q: If I'm gonna spent a large amount of money for a digital camera should I just spend the extra $$$$ and get a higher end one. A: Personally I don't see why. Granted I've never had a top of the line digital camera but I can't imagine that the differance could possibly be worth the extra money.

Excellent camera for the digital beginner
The Agfa 780C isn't the fanciest nor is it "megapixel", but for the price (in the 4th quarter of 1999) you're unlikely to find a better digital camera for beginners.

You may wish to invest in a couple of extras once you get going. I got a Delkin FlashPath SmartDisk Smart card floppy adapter - they're available on Amazon - and was worth every penny. I wasn't thrilled with connecting my camera to the computer. This way I can just remove the Smart media card and put it in the floppy adapter to move 'em over to my hard drive (much quicker, by the way).

You'll also want a 8MB or 16MB Smart Card. Agfa gives you a 2MB card, but you'll want to take zillions of pictures and will want the extra space.

Finally, you might want a set of NIMH rechargable batteries and a recharger - unless of course you want to purchase a new set of AA alkaline batteries. The Agfa 780C does pretty good with batteries, even if you use the LCD viewer a lot, but for the economy-minded a set of NIMH is essential.

In closing, do you really want to be spending $800 on your first digital camera when cameras of the quality/resolution of the Agfa 780C were selling at that price in 1997? If you've got the dough, then go for it. If you want to see what digital photography is all about, start with the Agfa 780C.

great camera for the price
I've had my Agfa ePhoto 780c for about 5 years now. Bought mine when it was $199, but even then I thought it was a great value. I love this camera! No trips to the store for film or developing (1st to drop off, then to pick up). I get to see the pictures as soon as they've been taken. Downloading to the computer is fast and easy. Makes for some nice screensavers. You'll go through a few batteries though, especially if you use the view screen a lot. Get the AC cord if you can find one.

Great Camera Designed to Fail?
This camera was excellent for the price - on sale for $... I used it semi regularly, never dropped it, never exposed it to the elements (heat, liquids, etc.). It ate batteries like mad, but I was satisfied overall....except that it just up and died. New batteries didn't work; the display just flashed the 'empty battery' sign. I put a message on Agfa's website to get tech help. Never got any response except for the automated email they send when you enter a message. Overall -- descent camera that had a fatal flaw that Agfa apparently doesn't give a s**t about. Figured it would cost more to send to Agfa to fix it, so I chunked the f**ker in the trash. Thanks a billion, Agfa. I'll be sure to avoid your products in the future.

Easy to use - Sturdy - CLEAR photos.
I recently purchased a new camera with a higher megapixel value. This camera is truly better. Because of the LCD Swing Open feature, you can really get photos of people or objects from otherwise awkward angles. Many dentists and doctors use this camera.

The software that comes with it is not great, it is better to scan it into a photo editing program such as Microsoft Picture It!! using a cable or card reader.

A Great Camera For Professional Looking Portraits!!
I have had my camera for 3 years now. I have been looking at the newer cameras and I am hesitant of buying a different one due to the unique Swivel head feature. You dont have to look through a view finder and you can change the angle and get a better picture without having to put your body in weird positions to see through the view finder.

I have done photos of the kids and they came out just as good as if I went to Sears or any of those other photo places. I chose the 1680 resolution and this gives me a very clear 8x10 image. I can use the software and shrink this down smaller to get a more crisp image. I can also select the 1280 for a great 5x7 or the 307 for pics to upload onto the web without having to resize them. I tried a newer camera by Kodak and I didnt like the fact that although it is newer, the images form this camera are much crisper than the one from the 2.2 megapixel one.

I rated 4 stars because I didnt get a usb Port cable with it when I bought it and now I havent found any to fit the unique jack to the camera. I solved this by using a film reader. I ended up doing this as the cable that came with the camera wasnt uploading the images onto the computer and I didnt want to buy another camera and I didnt want to pay abunch of money to repair it when the film reader was $. I now use the camera as before but instead of connecting to the computer to upload, I just insert the memory card into the reader and this is MUCH faster than waiting for the camera to upload the images into photowise.

I think the photo quality is much better than most of the other cameras I see out there..at least in the $$-$$$ range. I use it mostly for ebay and have to say the only other thing that I dont like is the flash is really bright..I often have reflected light off my books but I just change the angle of the camera or add a light in the background to off shoot it.

All in all I like that this is heavier and larger than the other cameras out there. The Kodak I was messing with felt so light and flimsy I sometimes forgot I was holding it! I like the swivel feature on this camera but wish some of the newer ones had this as well. The only thing that is a drawback is the time it takes to process each image after taking the photo and the time it takes to upload...takes forever. I did notice the newer ones are quicker but like I said I dont want to spend another $500 on a camera...so if you are looking for something to get second hand to play with I suggest this model..there are some on ebay and are around $170-$220 which isnt a bad price for the quality images you get. I have a 4Mb memory card it came with and that drawback is it will only hold 6-7 images using the 1680 resolution. I think you can still get a larger memory card but I havent gotten around to doing it. So all in all I am pleased with this camera even though I cant get it to upload the images onto the computer..thank goodness for film readers!

nearly professional grade
Don't let the picture fool you- this camera is pretty big. It's about the size of a paperback book. That, and the fact that the time it takes to process a picture (3-4 seconds) means that you had better be pretty sure that the shot of Junior sliding into home base is the one that you want- you won't get a second chance. But those are the only drawbacks I can see. The battery life is very good, the images are fine quality, the included software is a breeze to use (and includes ways to either fix, or even just have fun with your photos), and while a bit large, the camera is light and ergonomically well designed. The swivel body is a great feature- you can take shots at waist level, or over your head (great in crowds!) and still frame the shot, and the zoom feature is very handy. Mac users should invest in a USB card reader- it makes downloading the photos much faster and easier. I am taking one star off for bulk (but not heft, as I said, the camera is pretty light: the heaviest parts are the batteries and the high-quality lens), but I am very happy with mine. ... Read more

not worth the money... spend a little more...
PROS: you get tonnes of disk space, pictures shrunk down to 600x450 from 1076x768 (HIGH) are okay for internet usage, but... -comes with three iomega clik disks -comes with case -comes with wrist strap and a set of batteries -USB enabled, AC adapter. -one set of pictures on a 4 1600mA AA batteries approx with half of them flash pictures.

CONS: -it's bulky, much to bulky for the convenience of a pocket or a small purse. -my flash is broken... no longer works -PhotoGenie is not compatible with win2000. A Twain driver is available, but, you can also just load the images straight from drive mode. -my clik disks have been corrupted on two separate occasions, meaning, I totally lost two sets of pictures. -the battery life meter is very vague and inaccurate. I take on picture and the battery life is down to half, I take 30 more, and the camera is still on half full, despite batteries straight from the charger (1600 mA) -flash recharge takes about 10 seconds (annoying when there are others that charge much, much quicker... cannot be spontaneous) -loading takes over 7 seconds -often the LCD will not display when expected. you must turn off and restart. -lcd display is jerky compared to other LCD's I've used. -technology is OLD... camera was developed in 1999.

Great Camera
This camera is very nice. Very good pics, lots of storage. I got an external CLick! Drive with it, and some high end rechargable batteries.

Only 2 bad points - batteries, get really good rechargables and your all set. Also - it is slow, not great for action shots...

Other then that, a very nice product.

That guy works for Iomega...but it's still a great camera.
I bought one...I love it...and I keep dozens, nay hundreds of pics stored on those cute little disks. I can pack ten of the disks and have virtually NO LIMIT to the number of photos I can store on a long trip (and I travel a lot as I live in Europe). Others pay $199 for a 64 MB flash card...my per MB cost is less by a factor of at least 6. Then I pop the PC Clik drive into my laptop and bingo they're in....

THE DIGITAL THAT NEEDS SOME PUBLIC EXPOSURE
This is a fantastic camera with easy operation to keep the wife happy and the range of features with quality to keep me happy. To be able to get 60 highest quality photos on a match book sized click disk that cost less than $9 each is fantastic. A camera (cables, disk, case and batteries) for under $400 that gives me great pictures, serves as a storage dive, and slide projector when connected to my computer via the USB port is perfect. I just ordered a 2x telephoto lens and a .5x wide angle lens for under $120 to make this digital camera package the best deal in the market place. This product needs to get some market place attention. The prices I paid include shipping after shopping the net for the best deals. This is a digital that replaces my 35mm film camera because the pictures are easy to sort through at the end of the day on the camera or computer. The color is not really "Real"
If you make pictures with this one under direct sun light, or anywhere that is very bright, the color will be just fine.
However, if your environment is a little less than perfect, for example, a cloudy day, or in the room where the flash light is needed, the color will be somehow dimmed and not very "real" anymore. One cloudy day I was making picture of a person with red shirt, and the shirt turned out to be purple!
Maybe because the one I was using is a refurbished. Not sure about that. ... Read more

Nice camera
My husband and I received the AFGA CL30 digital camera as a Christmas gift and we have really enjoyed using it. It's a really great camera. The only negative thing I have to say about it is that the lithium batteries don't last that long when you're viewing the pictures on the screen. Other than that, the camera is great!

Perfect for Digital Image Newbies
There is no doubt about it; this is a great camera to discover the virtues (and limitations) of digital photography. The interface, a menu system given via a LCD, is easy to understand and use, though in bright sun light the LCD can be nearly impossible to see. The camera's main problem, as many have mentioned, is battery use. The camera comes supplied with batteries (wow!) but since this camera is such a joy to use, you'll likely go through them on your way to the store to buy the NiMH rechargeables that you'll need. I purchased a 13hr charger and 8 AA NiMH batteries for $40.00 at Radio Shack.

The advantage of the digital is that I've been taking many many more "memory" shots of my life with this camera then I ever did using the traditional chemistry based system. Another advantage is that the LCD lets you review the pictures right after taking the image. This can be a great feature at parties and the like. When it comes to a traditional camera, the outlay of the many dollars and the amount of time between shot taken and shot realized was too costly for me to take many pictures.

The disadvantages of digital cameras, at least at this cost level, are resolution (you really cannot beat the old system yet) and image control (focus, f-stop, zoom, etc.) but maybe I just haven't discovered those aspects of the camera yet.

All in all, a great "new to digital" camera coupled with a great place to buy it. Amazon.com treated me very well when I had some problems with the order. I highly recommend them.

Good entry level camera
This camera was my first digital camera. It served the purpose at the time. You really need to fool around with the controls to get a good picture. I suggest that you get rechangeable battery unit as it eats battery life. I found the camera to be very heavy. People who have Windows ME operating system do not buy this camera. Afga at this times does not have drivers for the CL 30 for Windows Me. For the price, you can get a far better camera with higher resolution. (...) Digital cameras have come a long way in 2 years. Not great...
The agfa e-photo smile camera itself would be fine, IF it didnt shut off thinking it had a low battery after you take only 2 or three shots. This happened in 2 - I ordered a second to be sure it was the camera. And the help line for Agfa is useless at best. They told me to try a camera battery and that would solve everything, EVEN THOUGH the camera CAME with two REGULAR alkalines and NOWHERE In the brochure does it say it needs that special battery. Id try another camera. Agfa IS generally a good brand, perhaps not with their low models, though. Pictures also very very very grainy in poor light.

Great in High bad in Low resolution
Pictures taken in High resolution are realy nice, although colors are shifted litle a bit to blue, but when you set to Low Res to spare some memory space, pictures get some unexpected and ugly artifacts on homogenous surfaces (like face for example).

That's not only due to lower resolution but rather to something wrong in software resizing in camera's firmware itself.

If you take HiRes and resize on you PC, everything is OK.

If you want to be able to store 30+ pictures on your digital camera (you'll have to use Low Res), don't buy CL30. If you don't care how many pictures you can store before download, for less then 300$ you'll have nice 1M pixel / USB digital camera. ... Read more

fine camera
It's a camera which makes good pictures, I developed 4 rolls and not a single shot missed out (I use 200 iso film). I found out that it is better not to use the zoom in low light conditions. There are some disadvantages however, the buttons on top are too small, and espacially the flashmode and the on-off button should be larger. I found out that I don't use the functions on the wheel. For me the camera would have been ideal if the functions on the wheel would be on-off and the flash modes and the functions that are on the wheel now could then go to the tiny buttons. But.. perfect pictures still recommend it.
